When it comes to the "Fast & Furious" franchise, real fans know it isn't about the cars, the money, the action, or the story -- it's about family. But, y'know, also all those other things too. In fact, "Fast & Furious" is so concerned with its overarching narrative that it haphazardly constructed a twisted timeline that's hard for newcomers to process. Starting in 2001, the films were released in this order:
"The Fast and the Furious"
"2 Fast 2 Furious"
"The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift"
"Fast & Furious"
"Fast Five"
"Fast and Furious 6"
"Furious 7"
"The Fate of the Furious"
"Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw"
"F9"
"Fast X"
The "Fast & Furious" movies can absolutely be watched, understood, and enjoyed in this order if the viewer relents to the franchise's reckless pace and internal logic. Having said that, there is an alternate viewing order we'll discuss later that...

The Fast and Furious franchise is as much about high-speed action and explosions as it is about the cars that define its adrenaline-fueled world. Over the years, the series has blessed its viewers with exciting cars, from American muscle cars to JDMs and high-end sports cars—they have covered them all.
Whether it’s Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) revving a Dodge Charger or Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) winning races in the iconic Skyline Gt-r, each car in the series has a rich history, and they speak for the character.
So, let’s examine a list of iconic cars that have appeared in the franchise, cars that are still spoken of today, or have influenced car culture in some way.

The summer of 2002 kicked off a whole new era in spy movies, but not in the way Hollywood expected. You see, three spy movies were coming out that year, and only one of them was predicted to be a hit. They were the Ben Affleck Jack Ryan flick, The Sum of All Fears, his pal Matt Damon’s The Bourne Identity, and Vin Diesel’s XXX. In fact, all three of them made money, but The Bourne Identity, a notoriously delayed and troubled production at the time, became a classic. The movie everyone expected to be a hit, XXX, did fine, making $142 million, which was a tidy sum. Still, given that it was expected to be the biggest hit of the summer, Hollywood insiders considered the film a disappointment. The end of the film promised that Xander Cage would return, but the time XXX: State of the Union hit theaters three years later,...

Back in the summer of 2002, everyone thought XXX was going to be the next blockbuster action sensation. Vin Diesel, based on the success of The Fast and the Furious, was a newly minted megastar, and it was set to be the movie that would not only turn him into the next Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone, but it was also going to make the James Bond series irrelevant. While a box office hit, it wasn’t the worldwide smash Sony’s home studio was expecting. In fact, it made about $200 million less than the next James Bond movie, Die Another Day, which came out the same year. A new spy movie Did come out that year that would fundamentally alter the James Bond series, but it was The Bourne Identity, not XXX. Nevertheless, the movie made enough money to merit a sequel. Plans for a follow-up existed before XXX ever hit theaters,...

Dennis Quaid is the movie star who inexplicably never was. The Houston-born hellraiser with the devil-may-care grin flashed palpable leading man potential with his portrayal of the former star quarterback who finds a measure of redemption astride a bicycle in Peter Yates' wonderful coming-of-age sports flick "Breaking Away." This potential turned into a veritable guarantee of future A-list dominance when he swaggered his way through "The Right Stuff" as Project Mercury astronaut Gordon Cooper. Who's the best actor you ever saw? You might just be looking at him.
Quaid was almost always great, but the films that were supposed to launch him to superstardom kept underperforming. Wolfgang Petersen's "Enemy Mine," an underrated sci-fi riff on "The Defiant Ones," was horribly mis-marketed by 20th Century Fox, Joe Dante's brilliant "Innerspace" got hung out to dry by Warner Bros. over the 1987 July 4th holiday, and Jim McBride's wild-sexy New Orleans noir "The Big Easy,...

In the new dark horror-comedy from A24, Death of a Unicorn, absurdity meets the macabre in a deliciously fantastical fashion. The feature debut by director-writer Alex Scharfman, the movie centers around a father (Paul Rudd) and daughter (Jenna Ortega) who accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while driving to his billionaire boss’s estate. Upon arrival, their host (Richard E. Grant) and his insufferable family become eager to exploit the unicorn’s body for its magical, medicinal properties. As the story unfolds, Death of a Unicorn pokes fun at the elite, reminding us that sometimes the upper crust does actually get a taste of its own medicine—and, in this case, a little extra horn to boot.
As a genre, horror has long offered filmmakers the perfect conduit to interrogate and explore issues of greed, capitalism, systemic inequality, and the often ruthless nature of the elite. With the ability to...

Action star Vin Diesel loves to live both fast and furious, and while he has largely kept such desires for the life and times of Dominic Toretto, Diesel has also tried to one-up the dedicated family man and take the action, explosions, and everything else to another level in his panned franchise, xXx (Aka Triple X). And, if you want to see Diesel risk his life without his beloved family in tow, you’re in luck, as xXx (and its somehow even worse Diesel-less sequel) are headed to free streaming.
Released in 2002 during a long-forgotten time when there had only been one Fast and Furious movie rather than 10, xXx was directed by Rob Cohen and stars Vin Diesel as Xander Cage, a tattooed, bald-headed extreme sports enthusiast always looking for the next high. Although Matthew Fox is a fan-favorite Lost cast member, the star once took on a less favorable role in Alex Cross (2012). As the third installment in the Alex Cross franchise, the Rob Cohen-directed movie performed so poorly that it significantly impacted the entire franchise.
Alex Cross saw Fox play a sadistic serial killer named Picasso, drawing the attention of psychologist Dr. Alex Cross, played by Tyler Perry. The film will stream for free on Tubi starting April 1.
The film was considered a reboot, with Perry taking over from previous Alex Cross actor Morgan Freeman in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. Unfortunately, the plans for the Alex Cross reboot were short-lived. The film received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics and audiences. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Alex Cross has a mere 11% approval rating from critics, and out of over 25,000 audience reviews, only 47% are positive. The consensus was that,...

Even though it has been many years since Bruce Lee's far-too-young tragic death, he continues to intrigue and mystify fans of his legendary work. As a martial artist, actor, and philosopher, Lee used his skill, intellect, and charisma to craft a career that, while relatively short, left its mark. This is why it should come as no surprise that one of our great filmmakers, Ang Lee, has been working on a Bruce Lee biopic for years, and now the director has provided an update on the status of the project.
While speaking with a Chinese outlet, via World of Reel, Lee spoke about his Bruce Lee biopic, following reports that the screenplay was finally done, and the director expressed that it was something that he wanted to get right. In the summer of 2001, Vin Diesel became a household name. The Fast and the Furious, which was designed as little more than a modestly budgeted action programmer, became the breakout hit of that summer, capturing the cultural zeitgeist in a way that’s hard to reverse engineer. It was a major hit with the youth market. Diesel, with his bald head, muscular physique and unforgettable voice became the decade’s first icon, with audiences fascinated by his macho vibe, ambiguous ethnicity, and signature look. Studios didn’t waste any time building a star vehicle around him, with Sony making him the lead of a new super spy franchise they hoped would give James Bond some serious competition. The film, XXX, was among the most hyped films of the decade, with many thinking it would be such a phenomenon that it would make the Bond franchise irrelevant. That didn’t quite happen,...

The Mummy and The Mummy Returns are beloved films from the late '90s and early '00s. The adventures of Rick O'Connell and his Egyptologist wife, Evy, delight and entertain fans decades later. The third installment, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, isn't quite as well-regarded.
The third film in The Mummy franchise suffered for a couple of reasons, but one that fans are quick to point out is that Rachel Weisz, who played Evy, didn't return to reprise her role. Instead, the character of Evy was recast and portrayed by Maria Bello. There are a couple of rumors floating around as to why Weisz was absent from Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Netflix is losing a Top Gun-esque movie starring Jamie Foxx and Jessica Biel. While the streaming service is known for original movies and TV shows including Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, Wednesday, Carry-On, and Leave the World Behind, their library is also populated with titles that are licensed from other companies. As these licensing agreements expire or change quite often, every month there are usually quite a few titles either joining or leaving Netflix.
The Top Gun-inspired movie that is departing the platform soon is one of these licensed titles, and it is particularly star-studded. Jamie Foxx is a well known multihyphenate who is a stand-up comedian and musician along with being a decorated actor, having won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 musical biopic Ray. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor that same year for his work in Collateral.

Taylor Hackford's "Ray," the 2004 biography that chronicles the life of legendary musician Ray Charles, closely follows the conventions of the genre. It wears its sentimentality on its sleeve, the kind that often accompanies biographical portraits of geniuses, and uses embellishments to heighten its dramatic stakes. Despite these genre trappings, "Ray" emerges as a soulful, spirited drama because of Jamie Foxx's central performance, which oozes charisma. Foxx disappears into the role of the titular boundary-pushing artist, bringing the eccentricities of the man to life to convincing ends. The success of "Ray" can also undoubtedly be attributed to Foxx, who won a Best Actor Oscar for his work in the film. Apart from being nominated in more than five categories at the Academy Awards, "Ray" also won an Oscar for Best Sound Mixing (which is clearly deserved).

The 1996 disaster movie, Daylight, will soon be coming to your home in crisp ultra high-definition picture. Blu-ray.com has recently reported that the Sylvester Stallone film from Rob Cohen, who directed Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story and The Fast and the Furious, will be getting a new 4K remastered physical media release from the Kino Lorber distributor. In addition to Stallone, the movie co-starred Amy Brenneman, Viggo Mortensen, Dan Hedaya, and Jay O. Sanders. This new ultra-hd version is expected to hit retailers next year on March 11.
Daylight is not particularly well regarded by Stallone fans, and it had the misfortune of coming out just as disaster movies were bombing left and right. It grossed an abysmal $33 million domestically, which seriously hurt Sly’s career, even though it did well enough overseas that it likely broke even by the time it hit home video. Marshall Bruce Mathers III, aka, Eminem, raps fast. He could also have been driving fast if fate had played out differently. Vin Diesel’s long-awaited Xander Cage 4 gets a disappointing update from a star of the franchise. The first xXx was an over-the-top hit in 2002, with Diesel at the center of the ridiculous Rob Cohen-directed action. That movie’s $277 million worldwide gross guaranteed a sequel, but Diesel himself elected not to come back for xXx: State of the Union, which instead starred Ice Cube. After torpedoing the second xXx movie by bailing out (box office sagged to $71 million without him), Diesel made amends with his 2017 Xander Cage return, which grossed $346 million, spurring hopes of xXx 4.

James Patterson, author of the original Alex Cross novels, has defended Tyler Perry's portrayal of the character in the 2012 film of the same name, blaming the movie's director for its failure. The movie was adapted from the 2006 novel Cross, the 12th book in the series, and followed the titular detective and psychologist hunting down a serial killer. Alex Cross was critically panned, earning an 11% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. This resulted in the cancellation of a planned sequel and the franchise moving to a new medium, with the recent Cross TV show being the latest adaptation.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Patterson said that Alex Cross' movie format didn't allow it to fully delve into the backstories of important characters from the books, like Samson, who never appeared in the 2012 adaptation. He also blamed director Rob Cohen for the film's failure, claiming he'd continually rewrite the script, leading to the film's bad reception.

Alex Cross, the character from author James Patterson’s popular crime thriller series, is getting a refresh by way of Prime Video’s Cross. In the eight-episode mystery series written and created by Ben Watkins, actor Aldis Hodge takes over the role of the Black detective, solving crimes in Washington, D.C., alongside fellow officer and best friend John Samson, played by Isaiah Mustafa.
“In talking to Ben, I really liked the vision and what he wanted to do with it to make Alex more contemporary, more of a cop dealing with the real world right now,” Patterson tells The Hollywood Reporter of giving his blessing to Watkins for his take on the characters Patterson first created in the 1993 novel Along Came a Spider.

It has been nearly 25 years since the Fast and Furious franchise first began, and while the series has grown to incredible heights in the years since, The Fast and the Furious quotes offer a reminder of the fun and charm of the movie that started it all. 2001's The Fast and the Furious gave the franchise a more toned-down beginning while also introducing some of the most beloved characters of the franchise, like Dom, Brian, and Letty.
Apart from the colorful cars and exciting racing sequences, another thing that makes the Rob Cohen project such a memorable installment, is the dialogue. There are a lot of tough and intimidating lines thrown around by this crew of likable criminals. Fans also get to hear quotes that establish key themes that are still a part of the franchise decades later as well as lines that offer a glimpse of Dom's perspective on the world.

Actor Brendan Fraser may be best known for his work in The Mummy franchise, or for Millennials, his memorable turn as Link in Encino Man (1992), but it was his performance in 2022s The Whale that earned him the Best Actor Oscar in 2023. Starting November 1, The Whale will stream on Netflix. In addition to Frasers Oscar-winning performance, the film also took home the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling in 2023.
In The Whale, Fraser is nearly unrecognizable as he is playing a morbidly obese, gay English professor named Charlie who tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter. The movie is based on a play of the same name by Samuel D. Hunter, and chronicles Charlie, whose health is on the decline, as he tries to get his daughter, Ellie, played by Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) to spend time with him by giving her money.

Netflix has crowned its latest hit action movie as The Shadow Strays (2024) debuted at the top of the global movie chart. The new movie from director Timo Tjahjanto is the latest in a long line of under the radar action movies that have completely dominated Netflixs streaming charts as soon as they arrive on the platform. This has not been exclusive to new movies either, as several decades-old movies such as Jason Stathams The Mechanic have also found huge success in recent months.
The Shadow Strays is one of a handful of movies to be hailed as the best action movie of the year, joining the likes of Rebel Ridge, which scored an incredible debut earlier in the year and seemed to spark an endless list of action movies finding their way into the top half of the movie chart week after week. Fans of action heist movies have been discovering an easily forgotten 2018 box office dud on Tubi: The Hurricane Heist. The combined disaster movie and action crime thriller has blown away the competition to take the top spot on the free streaming platform, but those choosing to check out the movie shouldnt expect too much from the box office and critical bomb.
Streaming has allowed many movies to discover a new audience years after their initial release, even those that would usually have dropped out of existence thanks to their dismal performance in cinemas, or terrible reviews. Viewers looking for something to pass the time at home dont seem to really care about such things when a movie is in front of them to watch for free, and that is probably why The Hurricane Heist has found renewed success despite Rotten Tomatoes audiences scoring it a lowly 28%.

For a seemingly very brief period of time, Bruce Lee was one of the most electric personalities in pop culture; a vibrant, intense ball of fire who left the world just as he was becoming one of its most interesting personalities. While he is something of a mythic figure now, more of an image in our minds than a person who actually lived and breathed, Bruce was, like the rest of us, a person who went through highs and lows, who had flaws and inner demons. While a man unlike any other, he was also still just a man.
When he left us far too soon at the age of 32 from a still-disputed ailment, his legend has only grown… Of course, it was inevitable that his wild life would become fodder for a biopic, and in 1993 – twenty years after his death – we finally got one: Rob Cohen’s Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.

James Patterson’s Alex Cross book series is heading to the screen once again, and here’s the trailer for Cross.
Thus far, James Patterson’s Alex Cross action thriller novels have only been seen on the big screen. Morgan Freeman first took on the role of the detective for 1997’s Kiss the Girls, directed by Gary Fleder, and 2001’s Along Came A Spider, directed by Lee Tamahori. Both were well received and feature strong casts, including Ashley Judd, Carey Elwes and Michael Wincott.
A reboot landed in 2012, directed by Rob Cohen and starring Tyler Perry. However, Alex Cross was a critical and commercial failure, and plans for a sequel were dropped.
That brings us to Cross, a television series coming to Amazon Prime Video which follows Reacher's template of using the protagonist’s surname as the title.
The synopsis reads as follows:

The power of hurricanes is unmatched, combining winds, rain, and flooding to create devastating destruction in their wake. Visual effects have enhanced the portrayal of intense storms onscreen, from thrilling set pieces to somber reflections on real events. While fictional movies use hurricanes for action, true stories like "Storm Seekers" reveal the personal struggles faced in the midst of the storm.
A good disaster movie can be about several exciting and dangerous events, but there's something special about great hurricane movies. The ocean is the most powerful force on Earth, and hurricanes combine this strength with high winds, torrential rain, and flooding that can destroy everything in its path. When the Jennifer Lopez-led erotic thriller "The Boy Next Door" was released in 2015, it was deemed a commercial success at the box office. However, the Rob Cohen-directed film failed to impress critics, as its on-the-nose camp factor did little to ground the clichéd narrative, despite Lopez delivering a memorable performance to salvage its flimsy premise. Well, it seems as though "The Boy Next Door" has been granted another chance, as the erotic thriller has found its way into the U.S. Netflix Top 10 list over the past few weeks. Given its immense popularity among moviegoers when it was first released in theaters, it is not surprising that audiences appreciate the entertainment quotient and the thrills offered by this twisted tale of obsession.
The Netflix-JLo combination usually works well in terms of audience popularity, as her sci-fi action-thriller "Atlas" also reigned the Netflix Top 10 charts for quite some time...

If you're a big fan of trashy, popular airport mystery paperbacks, you probably know who James Patterson and Alex Cross are. Patterson is a highly successful author (he's the first person to ever sell one million e-books), and while these days he seems to let other people write for him and then just slaps his name on the cover and cashes a check, his early books were authored solo. And when he wrote those early books, he created Alex Cross, a character who has appeared in several books now. Cross is a brilliant Metropolitan Police Department detective who often hunts down twisted serial killers. He's the type of ready-for-the-screen character that people love to watch, so it makes sense that there have been multiple Alex Cross movies — and there's a new Alex Cross TV series on the way, too, headed to Prime Video.
For now, we're just going to focus on the movies.

Well, I warned you. Kind of. While today’s story is released with Stephen King’s name plastered all over it, at the time of its release The Running Man was under the name of Richard Bachman, who had some dark stories attached to him. I was planning on doing this for a while but with the news that Edgar Wright is going to tackle the story in a new version that hopefully is closer to the book, it makes too much sense to talk about this dystopian horror now. While it’s a stalwart of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s catalogue of action, especially that range from 1987 to 1991, it’s not often looked at as a premiere Stephen King adaptation. It’s not expressly seen as horror but when it gets boiled down, both book and film, it’s horrific what happens in both stories and what’s going on in the worlds of both medias.

Released in 1999, The Mummy was a box office hit with $409 million worldwide. Two sequels followed, as did a spin-off - 2002's The Scorpion King - which put Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on the map as an actor.

Many fans of Brendan Fraser would love to see the actor revisiting his role from The Mummy for a new legacy sequel. Director Stephen Sommers has addressed the possibility, confirming that he'd love to direct such a film.
Released in 1999, The Mummy was directed by Stephen Sommers. The director returned for the 2001 sequel, The Mummy Returns, though he sat out the third film, 2008's The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. That film, which was directed by Rob Cohen, also controversially recast Rachel Weisz's character. Fast-forward to today with the recent rise of legacy sequels, and there's a growing demand for Fraser and Weisz to reunite in a new Mummy film. Speaking with THR, Sommers said he's heard nothing about The Mummy 4 happening, but he would be up for directing just to work with that same cast again.

Confirming Tyrese Gibson’s earlier comments, Fast & Furious 11 begins filming in January 2025, director Louis Leterrier says, with its release planned for June the following year.
Given how quiet Universal’s been about the whole production, the original plan to have Fast & Furious 11 in cinemas by April 2025 was sounding increasingly unlikely with each passing day.
