A pair of new cable series got good news Tuesday (Jan. 29). BBC America's "Ripper Street" and Cinemax's "Banshee" were both picked up for second seasons.
"Ripper Street," set in 1889 London in the aftermath of the Jack the Ripper murders, has scored strong ratings in the U.K. and performed solidly in its BBC America debut as well.
"Banshee," executive produced by Alan Ball ("True Blood"), earned mostly positive reviews and launched to about half a million viewers, a solid number for Cinemax.
Other TV news bites:
- The season premiere of "Justified" snagged the show's biggest audience ever. Live +7 ratings gave the episode 5.3 million viewers, surpassing the series premiere (4.2 million) as the show's most-watched installment. The Season 4 debut tied the series premiere for the best draw among adults 18-49 (2.5 million).
- Former "Ugly Betty" star Eric Mabius will guest on an episode of "Blue Bloods" in February. He'll play...

It’s really not that hard to enjoy V. Every episode, you’re guaranteed one awesome scene, two awesome sci-fi concepts, a cameo appearance by the Magic Flying Ball of Doom, a cameo appearance by an actor from another great sci-fi series, a cameo appearance by Scott Wolf, and lots of scenes featuring attractive people wearing expensive leather jackets. By that metric, last night’s episode, titled “John May,” went according to plan. Let's run down the list: Awesome Scene: Le Resistance was hanging out in Father Jack’s study, talking to Doctor Joshua and Georgie via the Magic Glowing Ball of Communication.

At some point, both Warner Bros. Television and ABC will be happy with who is leading its new series "V." After holding the reins for just a single episode, Warner Bros. has removed "The 4400" executive producer Scott Peters from the showrunner position on "V" and replaced him with Scott Rosenbaum. After Peters was given showrunner responsibilities, Bell -- who had worked on other shows such as "Harper's Island," "Alias" and "Angel" -- remained in an executive producer role following the change. However, with Rosenbaum coming on board, Bell ...
