Yale Entertainment, Producer Of ‘Becky’ Films & ‘The Kill Room,’ Files For Bankruptcy
Image
Exclusive: Yale Entertainment, the independent production company of Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman, has filed for bankruptcy, Deadline has learned.

“Unfortunately, that is true – Yale Entertainment has filed for bankruptcy,” the founders said in a statement to Deadline. “The climate for making independent films has become increasingly difficult – with the pandemic, the industry-wide strikes, and a major shift in the independent film marketplace. We’ve been very fortunate to have collaborated with some extremely talented creatives, and we’re grateful to everyone that has been a part of Yale’s journey.”

No word yet on what Levine and Beckerman will do next.

Levine founded Yale Entertainment in 2010, with an eye toward producing high-quality, filmmaker-driven features at conservative budgets, maximizing the possibility for creative and commercial success. Beckerman joined as a full-time partner and producer in 2017. The company is best known for its work on the cult hit action thriller Becky,...

Avatar: Fire And Ash First Still Features Guardians Of The Galaxy Star Zoe Saldaña As Neytiri
Image
Avatar: The Way of Water concluded with the death of Jake Sully and Neytiri's firstborn son, Neteyam. Unsurprisingly, that's put them both back on the warpath against the Rda, and the "absolute devastation" will fuel the matriarch's actions heading into Avatar: Fire and Ash.

"That pain is seamlessly followed up on," Zoe Saldaña tells Empire Online (via SFFGazette.com). "And because it doesn’t really have anywhere to go, and doesn’t go away, rage can also come from it. [The Sullys] are going to be tested as a family."

"Not only would everything that’s happening compel her to question the bond she has with her husband," the actress adds, "but also her bond with herself, her people, her land, and the way the Na’vi are. She’s going to question everything."

However, Neytiri will supposedly "meet her match" in Oona Chaplin's Varang, the leader of the Mangkwan Ash Clan.

Avatar: Fire and Ash Sneak Peek Reveals First Look at Zoe Saldana's Return as Neytiri
Image
Avatar: Fire and Ash puts the Sully family through the wringer as they look to bounce back from the tragic events of The Way of Water. A new still from the Avatar threequel shows the family's matriarch, Zoë Saldaña's Neytiri, willing to risk it all to protect her kin.

Per Empire Magazine, a fresh sneak peek from Fire and Ash sees Neytiri in action, seemingly holding a bow and arrow while in battle on Pandora. The look of rage on Neytiri's face in the image stems from the grief she and her partner, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), have suffered from after the death of their son, Neteyam, during the Na'vi's climactic battle with the Rda. Saldaña stated that Fire and Ash will further chronicle Neytiri's pain from losing her child. “That pain is seamlessly followed up on,” she said. “And because it doesn’t really have anywhere to go,...

Good Chaos Signs First-Look Deal With Searchlight as Brit Producer of ‘Sisu,’ ‘Santosh’ and Edward Berger’s Next Film Looks to Scale Up Projects (Exclusive)
Image
Good Chaos, the U.K. production banner founded by industry veteran Mike Goodridge, has signed a first look deal with Searchlight Pictures.

The arrangement — which will see Searchlight develop and produce films alongside Good Chaos — comes during a period of success and growth for the London-based company, which last year saw two of its films shortlisted for the international feature Oscar in Baltasar Kormakur’s Icelandic romance drama “Touch” and Sandhya Suri’s India-set crime thriller “Santosh,” representing the U.K.

Coming up, the company heads to Cannes with Shih-Ching Tsou’s “Left Handed Girl” (co-written by recently crowned Oscar monopolizer and Tsou’s frequent collaborator Sean Baker) in the Critics’ Week sidebar. Beyond the festival, it’s adding another Oscar winner to its ranks with “Orphan,” the next film from “Son of Saul” director Laszlo Nemes and now in post.

In an entirely different direction genre-wise, Sony has just...

‘Sisu 2’ – Jalmari Helander’s Sequel to Ultra Violent Action Movie Releasing This November
Jalmari Helander
Writer/Director Jalmari Helander (Rare Exports, Big Game) directed the ultra-violent Sisu back in 2023, and Deadline reports this week that a sequel is on the way this year.

In the first movie, Helander reteamed with Rare Exports actor Jorma Tommila for one epic and hyper-violent period adventure through the wilderness of Lapland in Northern Finland.

Jalmari Helander wrote and directed the upcoming sequel Sisu 2, which Screen Gems will release in theaters on November 21, 2025. Tommila also returns in Sisu 2, starring alongside Richard Brake (3 from Hell) and Stephen Lang (Don’t Breathe).

In Sisu, “During the last desperate days of WWII, a solitary prospector crosses paths with Nazis on a scorched-earth retreat in northern Finland. When the Nazis steal his gold, they quickly discover that they have just tangled with no ordinary miner. While there is no direct translation for the Finnish word “sisu”, this legendary ex-commando will embody what sisu...

'Sisu 2' Gets November Release Date for Sequel to the Best Action War Movie
Image
The question of what it would look like if John Wick took on a bunch of Nazis in an incredibly gory action thriller was answered in bloody style in 2023 when Sisu blasted into the world and delivered one of the best action war movies of the decade so far. Now, it is going to happen all over again as Sony’s Screen Gems has revealed the sequel that wrapped filming last year is coming this Fall.

The follow-up to Jalmari Helander’s dark and brutal World War II action movie will be released in cinemas on November 21, with Helander once again directing and writing the film. While the original film was distributed in the U.S. by Lionsgate, who have also acted in the same capacity for plenty of action thrillers, including the John Wick franchise, Sony appears to be keeping the spoils all to themselves this time around after...

'Sisu 2' Strikes Gold With a Brand-New Release Date — and It's Sooner Than You Think
Image
We all love a sequel that pops out of nowhere, and for some titles it's even more exciting when it happens. Back in 2023, Sisu took the world by storm by pairing up John Wick elements with Nazis in World War II — and a dog, of course. Even though it seemed like a one-and-done deal, the potential for more entries in the story was always there. That's why fans were excited to find out a couple of months ago that Sisu 2 was in development and production was moving at a lightning-fast pace. Now, the new installment is set to premiere in theaters on November 21.

Details of Sisu 2 are still kept under wraps, but considering that the war action movie hits theaters in seven months, we're bound to see a trailer soon. By the end of the first movie, protagonist Aatami (Jorma Tommila) was left in pretty bad shape after...

Sony Dates ‘Sisu’ Sequel for This Fall
Image
“Sisu” has returned.

Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems will release Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and Stage 6 Films’ sequel to “Sisu” theatrically on Nov. 21, 2025. Prepare yourself.

Jalmari Helander will return to write and direct, with Jorma Tommila returning to the lead role, alongside newcomers Richard Brake and Stephen Lang.

While plot details for the sequel are being kept under wraps, the original film was set in 1944 and followed Aatami Korpi (Tommila), a Finnish man who runs afoul of Nazis who, while in retreat, are looking to do as much damage as possible. “Sisu” comes from the Finnish word that encapsulates the concept of inner strength and courage. And boy does he ever show it. The original film is a rip-roaring historical action extravaganza that has to be seen to be believed.

Sony’s Screen Gems Sets Fall Theatrical Release For ‘Sisu’ Sequel
Image
Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems is releasing a sequel to Jalmari Helander’s gritty World War II action movie Sisu, with the Finnish filmmaker returning to write and direct. A November 21 theatrical release this year has been set.

Why doesn’t Lionsgate, which acquired U.S. on the film out of 2022’s TIFF Midnight Madness, handle the sequel? Essentially Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions’ Stage 6 Films sold domestic and kept the rest of the world (except Finland) on the first movie which made $14M global, $7.2M of that stateside. Stage 6 opted to keep global on part two.

Sisu follows an ex-soldier who discovers gold in the Lapland wilderness and tries to take the loot into the city where he clashes with a brutal SS officer and German soldiers.

Stage 6 Film’s SVP of creative development and production, Eric Charles, oversaw the film for the studio.

Jorma Tommila returns in the lead role,...

How Many ‘Avatar’ Movies Has James Cameron Planned?
Image
There are not many films that appear once in decades and fundamentally change the direction of filmmaking. Besides becoming the highest-grossing movie ever when it premiered in 2009, Avatar cemented its place in the history of cinema and became deeply rooted in pop culture. James Cameron, an expert in presenting far-sighted imaginations on screen, created an alien world with groundbreaking technology and visual effects and also managed to add a message that connected to a global audience.

However, it took him 13 years to release Avatar: The Way of Water, which became another massive hit. It showed that there is more to the story of Pandora by involving new tribes, creatures, and conflicts. Now, it looks like the director is not waiting long for the next series of installments. Cameron wants to build a universe like Star Wars. So, how many more Avatar movies are coming up ahead?

Every upcoming Avatar movie...

Kurt Russell Vs. Kevin Costner: Who Was The Best Wyatt Earp?
Image
Many years ago, onlookers watched with bated breath as Wyatt Earp marched out to confront ... Wyatt Earp. It was the mid-'90s, and two rival films about the legendary Wild West lawman were vying for the cinemagoer's buck: First up, on Christmas Day 1993, was George P. Cosmatos's "Tombstone," followed six months later by Lawrence Kasdan's "Wyatt Earp." Twin movies were a regular phenomenon in the '90s: You had "Deep Impact" versus "Armageddon," "Dante's Peak" versus "Volcano," and even "Antz" versus "A Bug's Life." But the dueling Westerns had a lot more at stake, because there was a significant beef between the two productions.

Kevin Costner was set to star in "Tombstone" before falling out with screenwriter Kevin Jarre, moving on to develop his own epic biopic of the frontier marshal with Lawrence Kasdan. Rather than let things lie, however, rumors circulated that Costner had tried using his...

5 Worst Timothée Chalamet Movies, According To Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Timothée Chalamet has become a very big deal over the last decade or so. With two Academy Award nominations and an ever-expanding list of excellent movies under his belt, the actor has flaunted his talent in a vast array of roles that range from playing Bob Dylan in "A Complete Unknown" (2024) to starring as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" movies and following Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in portraying eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka in "Wonka" (2023). That's a lot, especially from a young actor who seems destined to turn in great roles for many decades to come.

Any one of Chalamet's best movies is a great way for a movie fan to spend a couple of hours glued to their seat. However, few prolific actors can maintain a perfect win record throughout their career, and even one as wildly successful as Chalamet has a few less than beloved films in his CV.

Why Fox Canceled Steven Spielberg's Sci-Fi Series Terra Nova
Image
The early 2010s were filled with high-concept genre shows made in the wake of the monumental medium-changing success of "Lost." Shows like "FlashForward," "Revolution," or "The Event" had ambitious concepts and big mysteries but failed to capture the essence of what made "Lost" successful — hint, it wasn't just the mysteries.

One show from that wave was "Terra Nova." There were many reasons to believe this show would be a big hit. The cast included Stephen Lang, hot off the astonishing success of James Cameron's first "Avatar" movie. It boasted having none other than Steven Spielberg as an executive producer. Oh, and it was a TV show about people going back in time and battling dinosaurs.

That's right. Steven "I directed 'Jurassic Park' and changed blockbuster cinema forever" Spielberg executive produced a TV show about dinosaurs. Sure-fire hit, right? The CGI was pretty good, it had Carnotaurus eating people alive,...

Val Kilmer’s Certified Fresh Western With an ‘1883’ Star Wrangles a Spot on Streaming Charts
Image
The tragic passing of Top Gun and Batman Forever star Val Kilmer shocked the world last week, but it didn’t take fans long to begin digging through his diverse filmography on streaming. Kilmer was never nominated for an Oscar in his career, but if he had been, many would argue that it should have been for Tombstone. Kilmer stars alongside Kurt Russell (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters) and Sam Elliot (1883) in the 1993 Western that tells the story of a lawman whose plans to retire are thwarted by the outlaws he was famous for hunting down. Tombstone has become one of the most popular movies on Prime Video since Kilmer’s passing, sitting at #9 at the time of writing. It earned scores of 75% from critics and 93% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

In addition to Kilmer, Russell, and Elliot, Bill Paxton (Twister) and Stephen Lang (Avatar) also star in Tombstone. The film was written by Kevin Jarre,...

Image
Avatar was a box office hit in 2009, and 13 years later, 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water was also a huge hit, grossing over $2.3 billion at the worldwide box office. Now, all eyes are on Avatar: Fire and Ash to do the same this December.

Oscar-winning director James Cameron in confident Avatar: Fire and Ash will have audiences burning with excitement once they see the finished product. However, Cameron promises movie lovers will go through an emotional rollercoaster as the Sully family gets "put through the wringer" during their final Pandora adventure.

'1 of the Most Popular Characters': Avatar: Fire and Ash Will Feature Much More of Payakan the Space-Whale
Image
Avatar: Fire and Ash is bringing back one of fans' most beloved characters.

Speaking to Empire, Avatar: Fire and Ash VFX supervisor and executive producer Richard Baneham confirmed that the upcoming film will mark the return of Avatar: The Way of Water's giant space-whale (or Tulkun) - Payakan. "He's turned out to be one of the most popular characters," Baneham stated. "The reaction emboldened us to go forward and play Payakan at the very highest level."

Introduced in 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water, Payakan is a massive whale-like entity known as a Tulkun. In the film, Payakan rescues Lo'ak, the teenage son of Sam Worthington's Jake Sully and Zoe Saldaña's Neytiri te Tskaha Mo'at'ite. The Na’vi Go Surfing in a New ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Image
Image
Not long after Disney’s official panel at CinemaCon unveiled a new clip of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third installment inJames Cameron’s legendary sci-fi franchise, just got another exciting look. Empire Magazine has a new still from the upcoming film, showing Lo’ak surfing on the back of Payakan, his Tulkun companion with whom he forms a bond in the second film. This new image is likely from the first act of Avatar: Fire and Ash, before Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his family depart the Metkayina clan to visit the Ash people. It’s unknown at this time if the reason for their departure will once again be because Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) is closing in on him, or if it’s their choice to leave and explore another side of Pandora.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is due in theaters on December 19 later this year, and it will see Jake,...

We Did Not Expect This From Avatar: Fire and Ash, CinemaCon Glimpse Hints at a Darker and More Devastating Sequel
Image
No one expected James Cameron to deliver a $2.3 billion blockbuster with an Avatar sequel that came a decade and a half after the first film. He did, and the expectations have been sky high for his next film in the franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash. During CinemaCon, Disney released the first footage from the film to the distributors.

Reports suggest that the released footage has created a buzz among the distributors with its seemingly dark storyline. Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri and Sam Worthington’s Jake Scully appear in the footage as they face off against a threat even more dangerous than the human invaders.

'Avatar: Fire and Ash' Reveals New Look at James Cameron's Next Billion Dollar Blockbuster
Image
Director James Cameron continues to conjure awe in audiences everywhere with his next sequel in the hugely successful Avatar franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash, which has now arrived at CinemaCon. New footage revealed to those in attendance delivered another incredible, breathtaking spectacle of visual effects. As per Discussing Film, the footage played out as follows:

"The first footage we see is the water tribe floating on a strange jellyfish-like ship. The detail is out of this world, with the high frame rate photography looking genuinely cinema-redefining. The next scene involves an aerial attack on Jake, Neytiri, and their clan by the Ash people, who have red paint on their mouths to indicate their tribe. We then transition to more of a traditional trailer.

The Ash People are a vicious tribe, pushing the Water Tribe out of their home. One of the biggest threads is a rage growing in Neytiri, which...

'Don't Breathe' Star Stephen Lang Says Third Film Hinges on Script
Image
After the polarizing movie that was Don't Breathe 2, it seems that no one is rushing to continue the franchise created by Alien: Romulus' director Fede Álvarez and his frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues. Don't Breathe 3 has just received an optimistic but still disappointing update from franchise star Stephen Lang. The actor, also known for his role in the Avatar franchise, said that he'd like to give closure to his character's arc with "a script that really works," but that's it. Don't Breathe 3 is not coming any time soon, for now.

Lang spoke to The Direct while promoting his current TV show, the biblical series House of David. The actor was quick to respond to the idea of Don't Breathe 3, and although he sounds optimistic and willing to reprise the character, it doesn't sound as if there's a script in development:

"It's lying there right now. We'll have to see where it goes.

Don't Breathe 3 Gets Frustrating Update from Stephen Lang (Exclusive)
Image
In an exclusive interview with The Direct, Stephen Lang shared an open-ended update on Don't Breathe 3 and its script while promoting his new show, House of David.

Referencing Charles Dickens, Lang expressed his interest in returning for a third Don't Breathe film, saying, "I'd like to finish the old buzzard off:"

"It's lying there right now. We'll have to see where it goes. You know, as Charles Dickens wrote, ‘Barkis is willing,’ I'd love to do it. I'd like to finish the old buzzard off, but we'll have to see where it goes."

'Locked' Fans Need to Watch the Twisted 2016 Horror Film 'Don't Breathe'
Image
The latest pulse-pounding sensation taking the cinema by storm is the Bill Skarsgård and Anthony Hopkins-led action thrillerLocked, which features the Nosferatu star as a cocky carjacker who discovers he is in over his head after he becomes trapped in a greatly modified car belonging to an enigmatic sociopath looking to teach the thief a brutal lesson. A remake of the Argentinian film 4x4, Locked has already earned promising reviews and is leaving audiences squirming in their seats as they watch in terror as Skarsgård fights for the upper hand.

The thriller's gripping premise is reminiscent of a 2016 horror hit that also dominated the silver screen, with Fede Álvarez's deeply unnerving hit Don't Breathefocusing on a young thief and her friends who find themselves in a terrifying situation after attempting to rob a blind veteran of his secret stash, only to realize they're trapped and being hunted by the older man.

'Absolutely Breathtaking': Disney Boss Bob Iger Gives Ringing Endorsement of Avatar: Fire and Ash
Image
Avatar: Fire and Ash promises more visual spectacle and emotional depth than previous Avatar installments as director James Cameron's threequel tries to match the high bars the first two films set. Positive early reactions to the upcoming tentpole keep coming, with Disney CEO Bob Iger awed by the cut he saw of the movie.

During the 2025 Annual Meeting of Shareholders (via GamesRadar+), Iger commented on Fire and Ash after seeing Cameron's early cut of the sci-fi blockbuster. Speaking during a segment where Disney showcased several new releases, Iger shared his thoughts on the upcoming Avatar title, claiming, "It is absolutely breathtaking." Unlike many of the other new releases shown during the meeting, which aired preview footage, Fire and Ash only got the logo treatment and Na'vi concept art.

Fire and Ash has prompted several strong and positive early reactions since the start of 2025. Cameron recently revealed that the people...

House of David Episode 6 Introduces Gods Monsters to the Battlefield
Image
House of David will make audiences believe they live in a world of gods and monsters, that angels and abominations walk among us, and that our ancestors fell to Earth from a heavenly plain, creating giants in the heat of unholy union. As a way into Season 1, Episode 6, “Giants Awakened,” there is a certain majesty to it. Flashbacks are rarely that ornate, but this biblical epic is cut from a different cloth. It comes with authority from on high, sanctioned by scripture, and wielding the word of God like a weapon against anyone who wishes to argue.

House of David has been building up to this reveal for several episodes, teasing only the briefest battle scenes before focusing elsewhere. Creator Jon Urwin knows how to lay the groundwork by weaving an intriguing story from internal politics and then throwing in a rite of passage segue to keep things interesting. Betrayal,...

'Let's Make Him an A—hole': James Cameron Reveals How Avatar 3's Jake Sully Is Partly Based on Him
Image
Avatar: Fire and Ash is the latest chapter in the emotional journey that Jake Sully and his family have navigated throughout the sci-fi film series. Sam Worthington's Sully has become a relatable character throughout the Avatar franchise, with director James Cameron claiming the main protagonist is partially based on his real-life personality.

Speaking with Empire, Cameron stated that the Avatar film series' main characters were created and written using inspiration from his life and the experiences of his co-writers, including Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. According to the Oscar-winning filmmaker, Sully's personality mirrors his, particularly his parenting approach.

"These characters are amalgams of us, our childhoods, our role as parents, the mistakes we made, and probably to some extent continue to make as parents. A lot of self-reflection," he said. "I mean, Jake is a hard-ass motherf**ker. He's very hard on his kids. Well,...

Val Kilmer and Adam West Played 1 of the Western Genre's Greatest Icons 34 Years Apart
Image
Doc Holliday is one of the most interesting men in the history of the Western genre. A dentist-turned-gambler-turned-gunfighter, his real-life story has been fictionalized through countless portrayals in film and TV. Throughout the years, Doc has been portrayed in a wide variety of ways, ranging from the cold and calculating to the charming and unpredictable.

Among the many actors who have taken on the role, Val Kilmer and Adam West stand out for their takes on the character, even though they played him decades apart. Kilmer’s portrayal in Tombstone remains one of the most iconic, playing Doc as a brilliant and witty man battling tuberculosis. West, on the other hand, took on the role in the late 1950s and early 1960s in a series of TV Westerns, bringing a more classic version of the gunslinger. Despite these differences, both actors made their portrayals memorable, adding to the character's legendary status in the Western genre.

Image
When Kenan Thompson joined Saturday Night Live in 2003, it was noted that he was the show’s first cast member to be born after the 1975 premiere (Thompson wasn’t born until ’78). James Cameron
James Cameron revealed that his wife had a strong emotional response after watching Avatar: Fire and Ash for the first time. In an interview with Empire, the director said she watched an early cut of the film without having seen any prior footage and was deeply affected.

“My wife watched the whole thing from end to end. She had kept herself away from it, and I wasn’t showing her bits and pieces as we went along,” Cameron said. “She cried for four hours. She kept trying to compose herself so she could tell me specific reactions, and then she’d tear up and start crying again.”

He eventually had to pause the conversation. “Finally, I’m like, ‘Honey, I’ve got to go to bed. Sorry, we’ll talk about it some other time,’” he recalled.
