“I literally sanitized my hands”: Even Harry Potter’s Most Hated Actor Was Disgusted She Was Made to Pick Up a Phone in Harvey Weinstein’s Office
Image
Even the quill-wielding queen of gossip from Harry Potter, Rita Skeeter, couldn’t twist this story into something glamorous. Actress Miranda Richardson, who donned the role of the wicked gossipmonger in the $9.5B franchise, spilled some seriously dark tea about her creepy encounter at Harvey Weinstein’s New York office.

Describing the place as uneasy and reeking of “after-hours s*x,” Miranda Richardson recalled taking a phone call that later made her sanitize her hands like it was cursed. Claiming how she couldn’t wait to flee the room, Richardson implied that Harvey Weinstein’s office felt less like the Ministry of Magic and more like Knockturn Alley.

Miranda Richardson reflected on the uneasy vibe at Harvey Weinstein’s office

Walking into the disgraced Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein’s office wasn’t just awkward—it was full-on Dark Arts-level creepy for Miranda Richardson. Yes, the same actress who gave us the scandal-loving Rita Skeeter,...

Subhash K Jha Revisits 18 Years Of Aishwarya Rai’s Provoked
Image
Subhash K Jha refocuses the lens on the Aishwarya Rai drama, The Woman Who Walked Into Doors, the battered wife Paula keeps justifying her bruises by saying she, as a habit, walks into closed doors and hurts herself.

The battered wife Kiranjit in Jagmohan Mundhra’s Exposed jolting expose on domestic values never gets a chance to walk in or out of that closed London door where she lives with her brutal husband. She chooses her husband’s death over her own exit.

It’s amazing how the true-life Kiranjit Ahluwalia found freedom by setting her brutal husband on fire. In one of the film’s most sensitively delineated dialogues, Kiranjit says to her rather overly benign prison mates, “I’ve never felt freer in my life.”

What sort of trauma would it take for a woman to feel free in prison? Provoked answers the complicated question of domestic disharmony...

Like Tears In Rain Review: Deeply Personal Rutger Hauer Documentary Is All About the Man
Image
Quick LinksThe Film Isn't About Hollywood or Even Acting, but People Who Loved Rutger HauerLike Tears In Rain Is Not About Blade Runner or Even HollywoodThe Film Doesn't Dwell on Rutger Hauer's Death, but Viewers Still Feel That Loss

Ridley Scott's legendary film Blade Runnerwas a flop when it debuted in 1982, but today it looms large over pop culture. The main reason, arguably, is not Harrison Ford's titular hero, but rather his nemesis, the replicant Roy Batty. A new documentary about Rutger Hauer, who brought Roy to life, evokes his most famous moment with its title: Like Tears in Rain. Despite Hollywood legend, the speech was not improvised, rather Hauer shortened the dialogue and filled it with silent emotion that made Roy Batty the film's most human character.

In 2019, pancreatic cancer claimed Rutger Hauer at age 75, and fans of Blade Runner or his 173 other roles in film...

10 Perfect Moments From Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire That Are Flawless From Beginning to End
Image
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is known as people's least favorite film in the Harry Potter franchise, but the movie still features some of the most amazing moments in the series. Goblet of Fire particularly stands out for its outstanding acting, great character portrayals (with the big exception of Dumbledore), and several scenes that have become legendary — for good reason. With several new characters, excellent actors like Brendan Gleeson and Miranda Richardson take the franchise to the next level.

Of course, no one denies that Durmstrang and Beauxbatons adaptations are terrible, and the same goes for the direction Michael Gambon took during this film. However, sometimes fans are so blinded by the outrage that they miss out on some truly memorable moments in Goblet of Fire. For example, Moody turning Draco into a ferret is, without a doubt, a perfect moment in the Harry Potter franchise.

It took 2 years for Academy-Award winning writer/director Anthony Minghella (The English Patient) to write, and perfect the nine original episodes. The series included the darker, scarier side of these traditional tales with their often bleak endings.

‘Like Tears in Rain’: Rutger Hauer’s Goddaughter Honors Late Actor in Emotional Documentary
Image
Rutger Hauer broke into the Hollywood zeitgeist through his iconic role of Roy Batty in the 1982 blockbuster Blade Runner. The prolific actor had already turned heads, enjoying a long career internationally, thanks to an unmistakable onscreen presence in the Netherlands with projects like the acclaimed Dutch film Turkish Delight. His career ultimately amassed more than 170 films and television productions over 50 years appearing in everything from his Tinseltown debut in Nighthawks, Sin City and Batman Begins to True Blood and Smallville. However, behind the camera the Golden Globe winner who passed away in 2019, remained an enigma. For his goddaughter Sanna Fabery de Jonge, this served as her motivation to bring audiences in a little deeper with the documentary Like Tears in Rain. The film, which makes its U.S. debut on the Viaplay streaming service on March 13, features candid interviews with family, friends and colleagues. Among them Whoopi Goldberg, Paul Verhoeven,...

This Groundbreaking Animated Film Led to the Creation of a New Category at the Oscars
Image
Despite its labor-intensive creation process, stop-motion animation is a woefully underappreciated art. The former backbone of practical effects has faded to near-irrelevancy with the rise of computer animation. Financially, it’s a no-brainer. Why spend a decade animating what can be done in just a few years? However, the artistry behind these films is part of the inherent charm.

Few films showcase that charisma like 2000’s Chicken Run. The classic DreamWorks adventure film is the perfect mix of storytelling, comedy, heart, and art. Its vivid scenes, carefully sculpted from clay, are as intriguing as they are engaging. However, despite its technical and cinematic prowess, Chicken Run never won an Oscar award. In fact, there was no annual Academy Award for animated films in 2000, as the category hadn’t been created yet. That left Chicken Run with only one path to the prestigious awards show, and everyone knew there was no...

Image

Rutger Hauer | New documentary set for UK premiere in March
Image
The late Rutger Hauer’s life is to be explored in the new documentary Like Tears In Rain. More details on its UK release here as well.

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been nearly six years since the world lost Rutger Hauer. The enigmatic actor died at the age of 75, leaving behind a film career of nearly 200 films. Blade Runner grabbed a lot of the headlines, but what about Solider Of Orange and Spetters with Paul Verhoeven, genre joys Surviving The Game, The Hitcher and Split Second, or his later blockbusters, Sin City and The Dark Knight. He happily sold you Guinness, too.

But still, here’s an actor whose behind the scenes story stayed pretty much that throughout his life. The curtain is now being pulled back a little courtesy of a new documentary feature Like Tears In Rain. Wonder where they got that name from.

'Let's Just Call It a Prequel!': Sylvester Stallone's 25-Year-Old Mobster Movie Prepared Him for Tulsa King
Image
Sylvester Stallone is one of today's biggest television stars as the titular lead in the hit Paramount+ series, Tulsa King. Looking back, the actor is giving credit to a 25-year-old film of his for helping to prepare him for his Tulsa King role.

On Instagram, Stallone shared a post to acknowledge the 25th anniversary of his 2000 film Get Carter. A remake of Michael Caine's 1971 movie of the same name, Get Carter featured Stallone in the role of a mob enforcer. While the movie flopped at the time of its release, Stallone noted that he considers Get Carter to be one of the best movies he's ever made. He also felt that the film reminds him so much of his new role on Tulsa King that it wouldn't be a stretch to refer to Get Carter as a prequel to the show.

Sylvester Stallone Says His 2000 Flop Get Carter Is His Best Movie
Image
Sylvester Stallone has a very different view on one of his worst received movies, believing it to be his “best” and most “underrated.” Back in 2000, the action hero took the lead in an ill-fated remake of Michael Caine classic Get Carter, but he does not seem to view it with the contempt that the vast majority of both critics and audiences showed it.

Despite delivering an Oscar-winning performance in Rocky, and starring in many other great action films, it is impossible to deny that Stallone has also produced some of the most incredible dross ever to grace cinema screens. His current movie, Alarum, has become his third movie to score a bottom-of-the-shop 0% Rotten Tomatoes score, and while Get Carter was not quite hammered into the ground to that extent, it was not seen through the rose-tinted spectacles that Stallone appears to be wearing.

Stallone’s comments were made in a...

Good Omens | 90 minute finale begins filming
David Tennant
David Tennant and Michael Sheen will return for a final, feature length episode of Good Omens.

Update: The final, 90 minute episode of Good Omens has now begun filming in Scotland. It involves everyone who’s not Neil Gaiman in wrapping the series up.

Gaiman, last week, faced extensive, detailed, further allegations of sexual assault. He has denied the detailed allegations. He is no longer involved in Good Omens.

—

Original story from October 2024…

The television adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s fantasy series Good Omens has been hugely successful over the last few years, not least due to the chemistry and charisma of leading duo David Tennant and Michael Sheen. The second series, which debuted in August 2023, was reported to be the number one show on Amazon Prime worldwide, and the first season was hardly struggling for acclaim, either.

The show had been commissioned for a third series before...

Noel Fielding Will Still Host 'Bake Off' Despite 'Dick Turpin' Drama

Despite the drama on his other series, Apple TV+'s The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin, Noel Fielding will return to host The Great British Bake-Off. In a new statement, the actor and host's spokesperson insisted that, despite the rumor mill churning out worry given the cancelation of Dick Turpin, Fielding "will be returning" to host the popular reality series.

Fielding's spokesperson has since issued the following statement (which we first encountered via Deadline):

There has been absolutely no discussion about Noel stepping down from 'Bake Off.' We have been in contact with Channel 4 and Love Productions throughout all the speculation and his ‘stepping down’ has never been part of that dialogue. We can confirm he will be returning to co-host the next series of 'Bake Off.'

Noel Fielding will return to host this year’s Great British Bake Off, according to his spokeswoman.

Questions had emerged over whether Fielding would present Channel 4’s most popular show following the revelation last week that his Apple TV+ comedy The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin was being scrapped after Fielding pulled out around three-quarters of the way through the shoot. More details emerge on Noel Fielding departure from The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin
The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin (2024)

Why Apple TV+’s Noel Fielding Comedy ‘The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin’ Came To An Untimely Halt
Image
The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin was Apple TV+’s high jinks vehicle for the very best of British comedy talent, but there’s nothing whimsical about the series coming to a clattering halt this week.

Production has ceased on Season 2 of the Big Talk Studios series about an 18th-century highway robber, putting a cast and crew of hundreds out of work with nothing to show for their efforts. Filmed footage cannot be fashioned into a scaled-back season and there is no hope of getting the show back on the road, according to three sources familiar with Dick Turpin’s demise.

At the center of this highly unusual situation is Noel Fielding, the comedy’s titular character, who is also known to American viewers as the co-host of The Great British Baking Show. The star, who shot to fame in surrealist noughties comedy The Mighty Boosh, failed to return...

Yet another adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera is in development for Disney+, and the project may now be honing in on its female lead.

According to scooper Mttsh, Rachel Zegler is being eyed to play Christine, the object of the titular Opera Ghost's obsession. Whether this means she's actually in talks for the role or simply someone the studio is interested in is not clear.

Titled Phantom, this YA take on the classic novel by Gaston Leroux will be directed and executive produced by Kenny Ortega, who has led two major Disney franchises with High School Musical and The Descendants.

It doesn't sound like Ortega's version will be changing up the basic premise, with the story focusing on Erik, "a mysterious, disfigured musical genius who lives beneath the Paris Opera House. He becomes obsessed with a young soprano, Christine, and manipulates events to make her the star of the opera.

25 Years Later, 'Sleepy Hollow' Is Still Tim Burton's Only Scary Movie
Image
25 years ago, Tim Burton released Sleepy Hollow, his eighth feature, and by far his scariest. A retelling of Washington Irving's classic early American ghost story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" starring Burton's frequent leading man Johnny Depp, it marked a significant shift in the director's evolution, pushing the envelope of onscreen violence both in his movies, and mainstream movies in general. While the beloved director has always used plenty of grotesque and dark imagery in his films, Sleepy Hollow is the closest he's come to making a true horror movie.

Since making his feature debut with Pee Wee's Big Adventure in 1985, Burton has consistently found ways to remake the Hollywood blockbuster in his own image. His third feature, 1989's Batman, was a huge success that helped pave the way for superheroes in the multiplex, while still bearing the recognizable hallmarks of its young director. He cashed in...

Yes, Those Fate: The Winx Saga Characters Were Recast In Season 2
Image
The Fate: The Winx Saga cast made major characters for season 2. Inspired by the Winx Club animated series, Fate: The Winx Saga stars Abigail Cowen as Bloom, a teenager who discovers she inherited the power of ancient fairies. In Fate: The Winx Saga, Bloom plunges into a realm of fairies and monstrous Burned Ones. There are striking parallels between Fate: The Winx Saga and J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter franchise, with Bloom compared to Harry himself. Like Harry, she is a "Chosen One" figure who grew up in the normal world and is introduced to magic when she attends school.

In Bloom's case, Fate: The Winx Saga turns this idea on its head by killing off the Dumbledore figure. Farah Dowling was murdered at the end of Fate: The Winx Saga season 1, and in season 2, her killer takes over the school. It's a bold twist, ensuring the story feels fresh and original rather than derivative.

The 10 Best Dark Fantasy Movies, Ranked
Image
There is something about the dark fantasy movie genre that just isn't easily replicated. While many a fantasy movie has transported audiences to new and expansive worlds with epic stories of big adventures, historically the genre has also been limited by both technology and budgets that restrain movies from achieving the potential of the stories being told.

The dark fantasy genre, however, often tells smaller scale stories inspired by fairy tales, focusing on eerie atmosphere, stellar creature and set design rather than VFX spectacle. Still, many dark fantasy movies have fantastic special effects that feel as grand and epic as big budget blockbusters. Even in animation, the dark fantasy genre has delivered some of the best and scariest works in the medium.

From the apogee of the genre in the 80s, to modern examples, this list pins down the 10 best dark fantasy movies out there.

A Game Of Thrones Movie May Finally Be Happening
Image
HBO's megahit series "Game of Thrones" was so successful that there's been a nonstop churn of spinoffs in development ever since it ended. Now, though, something different is stirring: a "Game of Thrones" movie. According to the Hollywood Reporter, HBO has been "quietly developing at least one film" set in the historical fantasy world created by author George R.R. Martin. There are currently no writers, directors, or cast members attached to the project(s), nor any specifics about the story, but there's certainly no shortage of source material.

This isn't the first time the possibility of movies has been floated. Martin said in 2014 that ideas like a big screen conclusion for "Game of Thrones" were being "actively discussed," and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wanted to wrap up the series with a movie trilogy.

HBO's parent company is Warner Bros. Discovery, which has become focused on straddling its franchises across film and television.

This $207.1 Million Tim Burton Movie Broke 1 Controversial Horror Tradition (& It Was For The Better)
Image
Tim Burtons horror movies have his unique narrative and visual style, and in his take on the tale of Sleepy Hollow, he broke one of the most controversial horror traditions, but it was for the better. After exploring the genre of sci-fi and comedy with Mars Attacks!, Tim Burton returned to horror in his own style with Sleepy Hollow. Loosely based on the 1820 short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving, Sleepy Hollow takes viewers to 1799 and to the title town that has been plagued by a series of brutal and mysterious murders.

In each of the murders, the victims had their heads cut off, and so the insular town elders hire eccentric police constable Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) to investigate the murders. Ichabod teams up with Young Masbath, the son of one of the victims, and Katrina Van Tassel (Christina Ricci), and together discover that the killer...

How Did Harry Potter's Sneakiest Character Learn Everyone's Secrets?
Image
Harry Potter has almost too many characters to keep track of, so it's no wonder that, while adapting the books, the films had to cut down several roles. While some are removed from the story entirely, others have a reduced role. A prominent example is Rita Skeeter (Miranda Richardson), who is introduced in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as a journalist for the Daily Prophet, who spreads gossip about Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his friends. Some of what Rita Skeeter writes is true, and some of it is blatant lies, but the biggest issue is her inexplicable ability to know things she shouldn't. Or, at least, inexplicable in the films. The book has an entire subplot that reveals how Rita Skeeter gets her information and what happens to her afterward, including criminal activity, blackmail, and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson).

Neil Gaiman Exits ‘Good Omens’ Production Role After Assault Allegations, Season 3 Will Only Be a 90-Minute Finale
Image
Neil Gaiman is (mostly) exiting “Good Omens” amid some bad press.

The series creator, showrunner, executive producer, and writer has stepped aside from the show’s third season, which paused its pre-production amid assault allegations against Gaiman, according to Deadline.

Prime Video today has announced that “Good Omens” will return for a feature-length series finale that will be produced without Gaiman’s involvement — though he did help write it.

“While Gaiman has contributed to the writing of the ‘Good Omens’ series finale, he will not be working on the production,” the official press statement reads.

“Good Omens” stars Michael Sheen as an angel and David Tennant as a demon Crowley. Frances McDormand, Jon Hamm, and Miranda Richardson co-star. The series is adapted from Gaiman’s novel “Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch,” co-written with Terry Pratchett. Season 3 is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, BBC Studios Productions,...

Good Omens to End With One Final Episode After Neil Gaiman Controversy
Image
A major update has been revealed on the third season of Good Omens on Prime Video. The fate of the show had been unclear following controversy involving original author Neil Gaiman.

Per Variety, Season 3 of Good Omens is moving forward, but it will only consist of a single episode. The season premiere/series finale will be an extended episode, however, spanning 90 minutes long. Production is slated to resume in Scotland in early 2025 following the season's filming getting paused. ‘Good Omens’ To End With One 90-Minute Episode As Neil Gaiman Exits Following Sexual Assault Allegations
Good Omens (2019)
Good Omens is getting a final send-off, albeit a truncated one.

The Amazon fantasy drama will end with one 90-minute episode in lieu of a full third season with creator Neil Gaiman exiting after allegations were made against him by a slew of women.

Michael Sheen and David Tennant, play the angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley, respectively, will return for the one-off television movie, which will begin shooting in early 2025 in Scotland, after pre-production was paused due to the allegations.

Gaiman contributed to the writing of the series finale but will not be working on the production and his production company the Blank Corporation is no longer involved. A new writer is expected to finish up the work, although insiders said that deal has not been closed.

This comes after Tortoise Media released a podcast that chronicled accounts of two women, with whom he was in consensual relationships, who accused him of sexual assault.

George R.R. Martin recalls visiting set of canceled Game of Thrones spinoff Blood Moon
Image
Earlier this year, A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin traveled to Europe for a few weeks. Among other things, he appeared at Worldcon, where we interviewed him, and visited the set of upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Martin will likely tell fans about his Knight of the Seven Kingdoms set visit in the near future. For now, he's taken to his blog and talked about a wholly different Game of Thrones spinoff: Blood Moon, the first Game of Thrones prequel that HBO tried to mount before House of the Dragon got off the ground. HBO actually made a pilot for Blood Moon, which starred big names like Naomi Watts and Miranda Richardson. The show was to be set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, long before the Targaryens came west with their dragons, and tell...

HBO Failed George R. R. Martin When They Spent $30,000,000 on the Pilot Episode of a Game of Thrones Spinoff That Was Canceled
Image
In the sprawling landscape of television, few shows have captured global attention and cultural significance like Game of Thrones. With its unprecedented success, HBO saw an opportunity to extend the universe crafted by George R. R. Martin. While that became a reality with the show’s prequel spin-off, House of the Dragon, the production company initially had plans to tackle yet another amazing storyline. However, the plans for that ended up falling through.

In fact, HBO even spent an insane amount of money to shoot the pilot episode. Yet, despite a staggering over $30 million investment, they wound up pulling the plug on the potential prequel that could have given fans a look at the old Westeros and a look at the history of White Walkers.

10 Greatest Episodes Of Rowan Atkinson's Classic British Sitcom Blackadder
Image
Blackadder is one of the most famous and certainly one of the funniest sitcoms to come out of the United Kingdom. It tells the story of the Blackadder clan, all of whom are played by Rowan Atkinson and named "Edmund," and their adventures through history. Unfortunately, none of the Blackadders are remotely nice people, which could be why all their cunning plans tend to fail.

Blackadder got off to a bad start. Its very first season had Blackadder as more of a buffoon, and his sidekick Baldrick (Tony Robinson) as the smart one. But the show was miraculously granted a second season, and this one changed the dynamic up completely. This was one of the wisest choices in the history of sitcoms, and Blackadder was a smash hit from then on.

Good Omens Author Neil Gaiman Offers to Step Back Amid Season 3 Production Halt
Image
Good Omens is currently developing its third and final season. Based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, the series grew a massive following over its two seasons, but it recently received an unfortunate update.

On Sept. 8, Good Omens production on the final season has been paused. The reports didn't clarify the reason but it might have to do with the allegations against the book's author, Neil Gaiman, who has been very involved in the development of the Prime Video series. Now Deadline reports that Gaiman offered to step back from the series.
