James Remar

Trivia

James Remar

Edit
  • Decided to become an actor at the age of seven after seeing Spartacus (1960).
  • Was the voice in the 2009-2010 Lexus car commercials.
  • Was originally cast as "Hicks" in Aliens (1986), but had to be replaced early into filming. He can be seen from the back as the Marines walk along a corridor, but only because the in-camera miniature of the set had been junked, and the scene was too expensive to re-shoot.
  • Gained a minor cult following after playing "Ajax" in The Warriors (1979).
  • He played an adoptive father 2 times. In Dexter, he was a cop trying to make the world a better place and raised a serial killer and trained him to kill the killers that the justice system couldn't catch. In Black Lightning, he played an agent for an evil organization who raised a superhero trying to make up for what he had done.
  • He was given an honorary name "Standing 20" during the filming of Windwalker (1980) by the Cheyenne.
  • His family surname was originally "Remarman". His paternal grandparents were Russian Jewish immigrants, while his mother was English.
  • Most of his characters are vicious and cocky, if not evil; in real life, however, he is known as a proud father and a loving husband.
  • Made an impressive Broadway debut playing Richard Gere's lover in "Bent" in 1979.
  • Enjoys photography, scuba diving, and golf in his spare time.
  • Has worked four times with Mario Van Peebles: in The Cotton Club (1984), Blowback (2000), Guardian (2001) and Sharpshooter (2007).
  • Trained at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse.
  • Grew up in Newton, Mass. Attended John Ward Elementary School.
  • The actress who handcuffed him to that park bench in The Warriors (1979) was Mercedes Ruehl, also in her second film. One of Ruehl's friends, who was a "Washington Post" reporter, wrote about seeing the film and being disappointed at her friend's harsh role.
  • Probably best known for the recurring TV role of "Richard," the compulsively philandering jet-set boyfriend of Kim Cattrall, in Sex and the City (1998).
  • Friend of Marcus Henderson.
  • Attended Newton North High School.
  • Born on exactly the same date as Jane Badler of V (2009) fame.
