Most comedies now feel the need to sneak in a life lesson, and silliness, wordplay, or casual gags have largely been pushed aside. The Naked Gun, however, worked because it didn’t particularly care too much about those things. It just wanted to be funny.

With Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson stepping into the franchise as fresh faces, the 2025 Naked Gun reboot is officially set to hit theaters on August 1, 2025. Originally scheduled for July 18, 2025, the release date was shifted by a couple of weeks, likely to accommodate studio scheduling conflicts, including the rescheduling of Vicious, another Paramount project. Delroy Lindo joined the cast of Amazon’s series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Anansi Boys more than four years ago. The entire series has been filmed and was expected to be released sometime this year, but Lindo told Entertainment Weekly that he isn’t optimistic that it will ever see the light of day.

After Gaiman was accused of sexual assault last year, many of his projects were paused, and that included Anansi Boys. While Lindo didn’t comment on the allegations directly, he did say, “I don’t think that’ll ever see the light of day. It’s too bad on many levels, but I was really excited to do it.“

Delroy Lindo, who co-stars in Ryan Coogler’s new horror film “Sinners,” said it is unlikely that Prime Video’s “Anansi Boys” series, the Neil Gaiman adaptation in which he stars as the trickster god, will ever be released.

The series was one of many Gaiman projects that were shelved or otherwise impacted after the fantasy author was accused of sexually assaulting multiple women, including his former live-in nanny.

The series hasn’t officially been canceled by Amazon, but Lindo is skeptical it will “ever see the light of day” following the string of serious allegations against Gaiman. Another Gaiman-based Prime Video series, “Good Omens,” had its third season cut down to one 90-minute episode because of the allegations against the author.

Even 35 years after its short-lived run on ABC, the late Steven Bochco's and William M. Finkelstein's "Cop Rock" is a tough sell. "Cop Rock" was about a group of Los Angeles police officers who traversed the city investigating crimes, arresting perps, and facing the every drama of living in the City of Angels. The cops were played by a talented ensemble that included Anne Bobby, Ronny Cox, James McDaniel, Paul McCrane, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Cch Pounder, and several others.

The odd angle was that "Cop Rock" was also a musical, featuring several new songs — some composed by Randy Newman — in every episode. The cop characters, as well as the criminals, would sing about their pained lives of crime/crimefighting, and occasionally dance. It's a weird idea. "Live-action musical cop series" is an elevator pitch that would be turned down everywhere.

It may have been hard to predict back in 2009, but Isabelle Fuhrman's Esther has become something of a horror movie mainstay thanks to the film Orphan and its 2022 prequel, Orphan: First Kill. No doubt making everyone suspicious of "kids," the films have been a bright spot for the horror genre and that's thanks in large part to the performance of Isabelle Fuhrman, who brings the psychopathic Ester to life with relentless glee. Per Bloody Disgusting, Fuhrman has officially signed on to reprise her role as Esther in a third installment of the Orphan franchise. Fuhrman confirmed that the script for Orphan 3 has been completed, and that the twists this time around are "wilder and crazier" than those offered in the original film or its sequel, Orphan: First Kill.

Fuhrman first portrayed Esther in 2009's Orphan, which she starred in alongside Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard as Kate and John, a couple whose rocky marriage and tragic loss of what would have been their third child drives them to adopt the purportedly 9-year-old Esther. The film also starred Aryana Engineer as Kate and John's daughter Max, Jimmy Bennett as their son Daniel, esteemed character actress Margo Martindale as Doctor Browning, and the acclaimed Cch Pounder as Sister Abigail.

The film is directed by Akiva Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane.

Paramount Pictures is presenting, in association with Domain Entertainment, a Fuzzy Door production. The movie was written by Dan Gregor, Doug Mand, and Akiva Schaffer.

This is truly going to be a good year, as Paramount’s new Naked Gun movie debuted its first teaser trailer.

The studio shared the video online just before the start of its CinemaCon presentation Thursday, where extended footage was revealed to huge laughs and resounding applause. The comedy stars Liam Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Police Squad legend Frank Drebin, initially played in the franchise by the late Leslie Nielsen.

Naked Gun’s footage teases a tone that should please fans of the original series, including a moment in which Neeson beats a man with his own dismembered arms. There are also scenes suggesting sexual activity between Neeson and Pamela Anderson’s character that are not quite what they seem. Another memorable moment references Nordberg, the role played in the original movies by O.J. Simpson.

In one scene, Neeson interrogates a character played by Busta Rhymes.

Paramount Pictures dropped the first look at the studio’s “The Naked Gun” remake on Thursday with the film’s first trailer, introducing Liam Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the iconic comedy character played by Leslie Nielsen in the original franchise.

Akiva Schaffer, one third of The Lonely Island, co-wrote and directs the film which follows Drebin Jr. as he leads the Police Squad and, of course, must save the world.
