Maya Hawke The Latest Star To Join The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping Cast
Image
At this point, when we get word of a new casting announcement for The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping, we generally find ourselves saying "stranger things have happened." After all, Francis Lawrence's upcoming Games prequel has welcomed the likes of Jesse Plemons, McKenna Grace, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. to its increasingly stacked roster already. But today, Stranger Things really have happened: as shared on the movie's official Instagram account this evening, Maya Hawke — whose big break came playing Robin Buckley in the Duffer Brothers' Netflix smash — is gearing up to trade Hawkins for District 12 with a key role in Lawrence's new film.

Per Lionsgate's announcement video, Hawke is set to play eccentric District 3 champion-turned-District 12 mentor Wiress (formerly played by Amanda Plummer in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) in Sunrise On The Reaping, a movie set 24 years before Katniss Everdeen first entered the arena and focused on fan-favourite Haymitch Abernathy's games.

The upcoming Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, continues to build its cast and has now added Stranger Things' Maya Hawke as an essential character. The new installment centers around Haymitch Abernathy, the Hunger Games victor who mentors Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark for the 74th Hunger Games.

Stranger Things star Maya Hawke is the latest star to join the cast of the highly anticipated The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. 'Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' Finds Its Wiress in a 'Stranger Things' Star
Image
Maya Hawke is officially stepping into the arena — but this time, as a mentor. The Stranger Things star has joined the cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping as Wiress, the eccentric and brilliant former victor from District 3, reimagined here in her earlier years as a mentor for a new generation of tributes in Panem. Wiress, originally played by Amanda Plummer in Catching Fire, was best known for her cryptic demeanor and the now-iconic phrase “tick tock” — a clue that helped Katniss Everdeen and her allies survive the deadly clock arena in the Quarter Quell.

The cast for Sunrise on the Reaping continues to impress, too. Joseph Zada will lead as Haymitch, with Whitney Peak playing his girlfriend Lenore Dove Baird, Mckenna Grace as fellow tribute Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee, the future tech genius of the resistance.

7 Buzziest Cannes Movies for Sale, From Lynne Ramsay to Richard Linklater
Image
The Cannes Film Festival is nearly here and while it’s easy to get swept up in the glitz and glamor and very big yachts, there’s another, equally important side to the festival as a marketplace for films from all over the world seeking distribution.

And there are some very big movies at this year’s festival which don’t have distribution, either domestically or internationally, that are very much worth keeping an eye on. They could be some of the festival’s biggest splashes.

Josh O’Connor Is a Sullen ’70s Art Thief in Kelly Reichardt’s ‘The Mastermind’ First Look
Image
It will be a challenge to find a 2025 film that Josh O’Connor is not in. The “Challengers” breakout star is leading the third “Knives Out” feature (all we know is that he’s playing a priest), plus is starring alongside Paul Mescal in “The History Of Sound” and will be in Steven Spielberg’s next project about UFOs. First, though, O’Connor is starring in Kelly Reichardt’s latest, “The Mastermind.”

The film will debut in competition at Cannes. Oliver Hermanus’ “The History Of Sound” will also be in the main competition so O’Connor has two shots at being in a Palme d’Or winner this year.

For “The Mastermind,” O’Connor plays Jb Mooney, an unemployed carpenter who becomes an aspiring amateur art thief. The only issue is that Jb’s first big heist goes haywire, leading him to confront his life choices. The film is set in rural Massachusetts in the 1970s.

Armie Hammer Set for Lead Role in Uwe Boll’s Vigilante Thriller ‘The Dark Knight’ (Exclusive)
Image
Armie Hammer’s comeback is picking up steam after nabbing the starring role in Uwe Boll’s latest film, “The Dark Knight.”

Hammer is set to play the crime-fighting titular character in the vigilante thriller, which is scheduled to begin principal photography in Croatia on Jan. 27.

The embattled actor, who saw his career come to a halt in 2021 following allegations of sexual misconduct, recently returned to work in Travis Mills’ forthcoming western “Frontier Crucible,” which also stars Thomas Jane and William H. Macy.

Following a lengthy probe, Los Angeles prosecutors in 2023 declined to charge the actor with any crime.

Prior to the allegations, Hammer starred in such high-profile pics as Gore Verbinski’s “The Lone Ranger” alongside Johnny Depp, Guy Ritchie’s “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” with Henry Cavill and Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me by Your Name” with Timothée Chalamet.

In a recent podcast interview, Hammer said that his...

Disney has always loved exploring friendship in their animated movies and they have done so successfully since the beginning of their run. However, even in their long history, some Disney duos rise above the rest and showcase those truly special pairings that have delivered laughs, heartbreak, and charm to audiences over the years.

Including all the Pixar movies alongside the animated Disney roster, there are a lot of notable pairs to choose from. There are some friends who clearly go back a long way, like Mike and Sully in Monsters Inc. Some start out with a lot of tension only to find common ground, like Moana and Maui. Of course, some Disney duos are just fun to watch sharing the screen,...

10 Disney Villains Too Hard to Hate (Even Though You Should)
Image
Disney villains can be a divisive topic of conversation. Obviously, the heroes are there for viewers to get on side with and support in whatever journey they're undertaking. However, particularly in more recent times, fans have become more inclined to see things from a villain's point of view, as well as enjoy what they're like.

A lot of villains behave unforgivably, but it's not what they do that can make them hard to hate; it's their personalities. Some are funny, while others deliver energy that livens up the movie and encourages fans to look forward to seeing them on the screen. They're crucial to any good animation, so much so that fans can't always despise them.

Hades Is a Comedic Character in Hercules

Some Disney villains are rooted in darkness and are nothing but scary. Although Hades is intimidating, he's one of the funniest Disney villains out there. In Hercules,...

10 Essential Stephen King Stories Better Than The Movies
Image
Warning: This article discusses drugs and violence.

Author Stephen King has written some incredible stories over the years, but some are much better than their movie adaptations. Stephen King’s books and short stories make brilliant films and TV shows, but the King of Horror’s narratives are often so unique and complex that it’s hard for them to be translated to the screen properly. While many of Stephen King’s movies are legendary pieces of cinema, some just don’t hit the mark.

There are several reasons why these adaptations are worse than their book counterparts. Some are simply bad films, some fail to follow their source material properly, and there is even an instance of one tale being adapted so poorly that King’s work can’t be identified. Hopefully, the upcoming Stephen King movie and TV adaptations over the next few years can learn from these mistakes.

10 shows to stream like Black Mirror for your sci-fi needs
Image
Black Mirror has become one of the hottest hits on television. Netflix's anthology has become a sensation because of its often dark tales involving science fiction themes and boasting some top-notch acting and production. Each episode can be a stand-alone story in part with a movie and making viewers think along with statements on the human condition.

A lot of shows use such mind-bending ideas for narratives, but it's more fun to see the anthologies around. Many boast the same ideas as Black Mirror in daring storylines that blur the lines of reality and often shock the viewer. Others are a bit more heartwarming, but it's fun seeing the different tales around. If you like Black Mirror, these 10 anthologies are also a fun watch to show how daring some writers can be.

Bruce Willis has worked incredibly hard throughout his Hollywood career, and hed still be pushing himself to the limit if help complications hadnt popped up. In the 2020s, the actor had made himself comfortable in the B-movie space, lending about 20 minutes of his precious time to several movies each year. For example, Willis had a whopping 12 film credits in 2022 alone. Unfortunately, this was the same year he was diagnosed with aphasia, which was later revised to frontotemporal dementia.

Pulp Fiction Director Quentin Tarantino Tricked Censors To Save the Most Disturbing Scene
Image
Quentin Tarantino's sophomore hit, Pulp Fiction, was filled with disturbing scenes, from Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) and Vincent (John Travolta) accidentally killing Marvin (Phil Lamarr), Mia Wallace's (Uma Thurman) overdose, and even Captain Koons (Christopher Walken) telling a young Butch (Bruce Willis) about his father's smuggled watch. But no scene in Pulp Fiction is more shocking than the gimp. Played by comedian Stephen Hibbert, the character is only known as Gimp, and has no lines in the movie. Tarantino was worried the censors would force him to cut the scene, so he blindsided them with an even more disturbing moment, that he never intended to leave in the final cut.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Pulp Fiction, Phil Lamarr spoke with Variety about his brief time working on the crime classic, and revealed Tarantino's genius plan to trick the rating boards. In the final cut, Marvin is accidentally...

The hype around the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy villain is already outlandish
Image
Paul Giamatti is one of the finest actors going. He is the true "character actor" archetype we're told so much about. The type of performer who can't be typecast and will dive deep into any role given to him. Truly a talented thespian and an amazing get for the folks behind Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

Yet, the multi-time award winner is coming in with some outlandish hype around his name. Not too dissimilar from one a pro sports team lands a major free agent, landing Giamatti was unexpected. He may arguably be the best actor that Star Trek has acquired in not just years, but maybe decades (if not ever). Yet, a talented performer needs more than what they bring to the table.

They need a script. More importantly, they need a well-crafted character supported by said script. So color I was shocked when I saw ScreenRant post a shocking...

Star Trek Paid Us So We Couldnt Say No To Picards Tng Reunion, Says Michael Dorn
Image
Michael Dorn says Star Trek: The Next Generation's cast was financially well-compensated to reunite in Star Trek: Picard season 3, which hints at why Picard season 1's actors didn't return for the final season. Dorn reprised his iconic Klingon warrior, Captain Worf, for the first time in 21 years in Star Trek: Picard season 3. Worf's return revealed that the Klingon had become a self-styled 'pacifist,' and he worked for Starfleet Intelligence to uncover the Changeling plot to attack the United Federation of Planets alongside Commander Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd).

Star Trek: Picard was originally designed not to retread Star Trek: The Next Generation, according to Patrick Stewart's decree. Instead of being surrounded by his Tng friends, Admiral Jean-Luc Picard found a new 'motley crew' created for Star Trek: Picard. However, as more and more elements of Tng were woven into Picard, Star Trek fans clamored to see more beloved...

How Picard's Vadic Compares To Star Trek VI's General Chang
Image
Star Trek: Picard featured a magnificent performance from Amanda Plummer as the Changeling Vadic, following in the footsteps of her father Christopher Plummer's legendary performance as General Chang in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Christopher Plummer was one of the most celebrated film actors of the 20th century, and he was arguably the most high profile actor to take on the role of a Star Trek villain when he played the treacherous Klingon Chang. His Shakespeare-loving conspirator remains one of the very best Star Trek villains of all time.

While not an A-list movie star like her father, Amanda Plummer has also enjoyed a varied, critically acclaimed career, notably starring in classic films like Pulp Fiction and The Fisher King. As Vadic, she's been idiosyncratic and aloof, smoking cigarettes and giggling as her ship, the Shrike, takes fire. Her performance in Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 7 "Dominion...

Star Trek: Picard actress was "gutted" when she learned her character was being killed
Image
It was in the third season of Star Trek: Picard when Stephanie Czajkowski found herself playing a part-Deltan/part-Vulcan aboard the bridge of the USS Titan, captained by Liam Shaw [Todd Stashwick]. Czajkowski didn't know originally that she was auditioning for a role on Star Trek, but once she was aboard, she would look around every day and marvel at the fact that was on an "iconic bridge" and knew it "was only going to last for so long."

Czajkowski was right, but it wasn't because the series was ending. Her character, T'Veen, didn't make it to the end of the season as the character was killed by Vadic [Amanda Plummer] in the eighth episode "Surrender." She learned of the upcoming death of her character by that episode's director, Deborah Kampmeier. Czajkowski was "gutted" when she learned her character was going to be executed and disappointed that she wasn't going...

Quentin Tarantino Let Samuel L. Jackson Change Pulp Fiction
Image
Samuel L. Jackson has revealed that he's one of the lucky few actors who can make changes to Quentin Tarantino's scripts during production. The pair first worked together on Pulp Fiction in 1994 although Jackson originally auditioned for a role in Reservoir Dogs. Tarantino is known for being somewhat precious about the dialogue and scenes written in his scripts, and only lets his most trusted colleagues make alterations. But Samuel L. Jackson has been giving notes and altering scenes since their very first collaboration.

Speaking to GQ, Samuel L. Jackson reflected on his time playing Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction. After recounting his failed audition for Reservoir Dogs, the actor divulged the casting process for Pulp Fiction, saying that Tarantino approached him directly about the film, remembering his past failed audition. While Tarantino was still in the infancy of his directorial career, Jackson surprised fans by revealing that he was...

Samuel L. Jackson Details More Gruesome Version of Iconic Pulp Fiction Scene in Original Script
Image
Pulp Fiction is a film that's certainly not without its violence, but one character's death scene was originally intended to be much more horrific. For better or for worse, the violence of the scene was ultimately toned down for the final cut.

In a new interview with GQ, Pulp Fiction star Samuel L. Jackson commented on the original scripted death of Marvin, a character played by Phil Lamarr. Marvin is accidentally shot in the face by Vincent Vega (John Travolta) during a car ride, splattering the gangster and his partner, Jules Winnfield (Jackson), with blood and brain matter. It was a quick and painless death for Marvin, certainly preferable to what was initially planned for his demise. As Jackson explained, the script was written so that Marvin would have instead been shot in the throat by Vincent, leaving it up to the trigger-happy hitman to put the poor guy out of his misery.

Star Treks Next Show Has The Franchises Most Exciting Villain Since Picard
Image
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy boasts the franchise's most exciting new villain since Star Trek: Picard season 3 introduced Amanda Plummer as Captain Vadic. Starfleet Academy, executive produced by co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, is currently in production at the Star Trek Stage in Toronto, Canada. Targeting a 2026 premiere on Paramount+, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is headlined by Academy Award winner Holly Hunter and Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti, who plays the show's recurring villain.

Star Trek boasts a cavalcade of legendary villains like Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalban) and the Borg Queen (Alice Krige), but it's not often Star Trek TV series announce their villains beforehand. Star Trek on Paramount+'s shows like to keep as much under wraps as possible to avoid spoilers. A recent exception is Star Trek: Picard season 3, which revealed from the outset that Amanda Plummer was playing the villainous Vadic. Not only is Plummer Star Trek...

Samuel L. Jackson reveals Pulp Fiction's violent original ending
Samuel L. Jackson has revealed 'Pulp Fiction' nearly had a much more violent ending.Quentin Tarantino's 1994 movie concludes after gangster Jules (Jackson) manages to convince Pumpkin (Tim Roth) and Honey Bunny (Amanda Plummer) to peacefully end their diner robbery by reciting the fictionalised Bible passage Ezekiel 25:17 at them, but the 75-year-old actor has now shared the flick almost ended with a more grizzly sequence. During a video uploaded to GQ's YouTube channel where Jackson reflected on his Hollywood career, he said: "In 'Pulp Fiction' - in the original script - in the diner - when Tim first comes over and he asks about the briefcase, he opens it up. And when he opens it, I shoot Honey Bunny off the bar. And I shoot his a** and kill him. "They do a cut and I open my eyes, and it's what I would've done before I got...
