Josh Hartnett’s 6 Best Performances, From ‘Penny Dreadful’ to ‘Trap’
Image
Josh Hartnett has banked nearly 30 years in Hollywood, beginning with roles in horror flicks “The Faculty” and “Halloween H20: 20 Years Later” and the TV show “Cracker.”

Sure, he landed big roles, like in Michael Bay’s “Pearl Harbor,” but the former teen idol never got much respect for his acting. Now, however, thanks to his roles in “Oppenheimer,” “Trap” and “Black Mirror,” we’re in the middle of a Hartnett-issance

He’s back in action mode in his new thriller “Fight or Flight,” which is, essentially, “Bullet Train,” but on a plane: His mercenary character has to fight off several assassins who want him and his client dead.

Here are the roles where he’s demonstrated he’s definitely got the chops. When he’s good, he’s great, but when he’s bad, he’s even better.

42 Years Ago, ‘Gandhi’ Beat Out ‘E.T.’ and ‘Tootsie’ at the Oscars — Today, It’s Still a Great Movie
Image
When Richard Attenborough first read Louis Fischer’s biography of Indian activist and attorney Mahatma Gandhi in the early 1960s, he was around 20 years into an acting career that included work with David Lean (“In Which We Serve”), Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger (“A Matter of Life and Death”), and John Sturges (“The Great Escape”). Attenborough hadn’t directed anything himself at that point, but discovering Gandhi’s story gave him the desire to mount a biopic on the epic scale of his mentors.

It would take Attenborough another couple of decades to find the necessary funding, but when he finally made “Gandhi” in 1982, it was worth the wait, both for him and for audiences worldwide. A literate three-hour drama for adults that was, amazingly, a box-office blockbuster as well as an awards behemoth, “Gandhi” was one of those rare films that seemed to please just about everybody.

That must...

The King Of Kings Worldwide Box Office: Enters 2025’s Top 15 Highest-Grossers List(Photo Credit – Instagram)

Angel Studios’ The King of Kings enters the top 15 highest-grossers list worldwide this year. It is behind The Accountant 2 on the list and has raked in an impressive percentage of revenue against its modest budget of less than $25 million. The biblical animation experienced a significant boost during the Easter weekend and has slowed down in front of the big-budget multi-starrer releases. Keep scrolling for more.

It has beaten Den of Thieves: Panterra and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith 20th Anniversary re-release to achieve this notable at this year’s highest-grosser list. New Biblical Movie Crosses Major Global Box Office Milestone On 2025 Chart
Image
While they are not always popular in the mainstream, faith-based movies have the potential to do well at the box office. Some of these titles are overtly religious, such as the 2024 Alan Ritchson drama Ordinary Angels. Other titles that get looped in the faith-based subcategory are less overtly God-infused but still resonate with Christian messaging. One such success is Sound of Freedom, a 2023 movie about a government agent who attempts to rescue children from child traffickers. Sound of Freedom made a remarkable $250.5 million at the worldwide box office.

2025 has already been strong for Christian-centric works. Episodes of the Biblical series The Chosen: Last Supper were released in theaters and performed remarkably well, given that they were also slated to hit the small screen. These episodes ended up making just shy of $25 million worldwide, makingThe Chosen the no. 30 highest-grossing title at the 2025 box office. Now, another faith-based title is succeeding at the box office,...

‘The King of Kings’ Is Poised Overtake One of DreamWorks’ Biggest Global Box Office Bombs
Image
Considering how well Christian-themed movies have done in recent months, Mel Gibson may be relieved about the box office prospects of his planned sequel to The Passion of the Christ. The animated film The King of Kings exceeded all expectations in its box office run, which was timed around the Easter holidays. It has emerged as the highest-grossing Korean production in domestic box office history — yes, it's a Korean production — while earning over four times its reported budget at the global box office.

With $57 million domestically and over $6 million from overseas markets, The King of Kings has generated nearly $64 million worldwide so far. Produced on a reported budget of $15 million, the religious-themed film is around $1 million shy of passing the lifetime global haul of The Road to El Dorado, a big-budget DreamWorks animated film that tanked upon release in the year 2000, but has developed a cult following. In fact, The King of Kings...

‘King of Kings’ Continues Impressive Run at Global Box Office After Quadrupling Its Reported Budget
Image
Now in its third week of release, Angel Studios’ animated offering The King of Kings appears to be slowing down. The movie’s release was timed to capitalize on the Easter weekend, which it did. But it has now started losing theaters to newer movies, especially at the domestic box office. The King of Kings recently passed what will likely be its final milestone, as it attempts to generate whatever little extra revenue that it can from overseas markets. The movie opened in the wake of The Chosen: Last Supper series, and ended up comfortably out-grossing it.

It has now made nearly $55 million domestically, and another $4 million from overseas markets, for a cumulative global haul of almost $60 million. Produced on a reported budget of $15 million, The King of Kings is the second-biggest hit in Angel Studios’ history. The outfit specializes in content aimed at religious audiences, barring the occasional misinformation-spreader...

'The King of Kings' Moves Past an Immaculate Box Office Milestone Just in Time for Easter Weekend
Image
Unlike The Chosen: Last Supper trilogy, which couldn’t quite pull off a resurrection over the Easter weekend, fellow faith-based release The King of Kings successfully attracted the majority of its target demographic to theaters. The animated movie exceeded expectations in its debut weekend, and fell by just 10% in its sophomore frame. It claimed the number three spot on the domestic box office charts, finishing behind two Warner Bros. hits — director Ryan Coogler’s Sinners and Jared Hess’ A Minecraft Movie.

The King of Kings grossed over $17 million this weekend, after having generated $19 million in its debut weekend. The film’s running domestic total stands at over $45 million. It’s the second-highest-grossing movie for Angel Studios, behind the unexpectedly successful yet hugely controversial blockbuster Sound of Freedom. In its debut weekend, The King of Kings broke The Prince of Egypt’s record for the biggest debut haul for an animated biblical film.

Bill Murray says it was “surprising” he lost the Oscar to Sean Penn
Image
And the Oscar goes to…Sean Penn. It was seven words that Bill Murray did not want to hear, as evidenced by his face at the Kodak Theatre on February 29, 2004. Of his fellow nominees Johnny Depp, Ben Kingsley and Jude Law, he’s clearly the one most affected by the envelope Nicole Kidman was holding. But more than two decades on, Bill Murray has a very different perspective on his Oscar loss.

Going into Oscar night, Bill Murray had a strong shot at taking home Best Actor for Lost in Translation, having won a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and numerous guild honors. As such, he pretty much figured he’d be heading home with gold. “It was just – it was sort of surprising. I won every other prize for Lost in Translation so I just sort of thought I was gonna win because I won everything. Every single one. And...

The King of Kings Earns Rare CinemaScore Grade After Splitting Critics and Audiences
Image
Critics and audiences are not in agreement with the new animated religious filmThe King of Kings. Amid the two sides getting split, the film has earned a rare CinemaScore grade that's more in line with the film's near-perfect audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Officially, The King of Kings has been scored at A+ on CinemaScore, a movie surveyor that offers letter grades for new releases based on audience reactions. Getting an A+ score is rare with less than 130 movies in total ever reaching that high of a grade. So far, it's only the second release of 2025 to be scored at A+, following the success of the dramedy Bob Trevino Likes It, which was released last month. Only six movies earned the grade for last year.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has proven to be polarizing. It is currently scored at 63% by critics, making it just a few points shy of...

Oscar Issac’s 'The King of Kings' Lands Record-Opening and A+ CinemaScore Rating
Image
The Oscar Isaac-led animated filmThe King of Kings, which depicts the life of Jesus Christ through Charles Dickens telling a story, has broken a few records. The King of Kings is a South Korean animated film acquired by the faith-based production company Angel Studios, who made waves in 2023 by acquiring the surprise hit Sound of Freedom. Deadline reports that The King of Kings brought in $19 million in its opening weekend, taking the number two spot at the box office behind A Minecraft Movie. ‘King of Kings’ Breaks ‘Prince of Egypt’s Decades-Old Record in Giant Box Office Debut
Image
Despite facing direct competition in the form of The Chosen's fifth season, which is now screening in its entirety in theaters, The King of Kings exceeded expectations in its domestic box office debut. The animated film finished second on the charts, behind A Minecraft Movie; it out-performed fellow new releases such as The Amateur, Warfare, and even The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 3. What's more remarkable is that each of these movies targets middle-American crowds. But thanks to an incredible audience response, The King of Kings was able to emerge victorious.

The movie is estimated to have generated around $19 million in its first three days of release, which happens to be the biggest-ever debut for an animated biblical film. The King of Kings broke the $14 million record set by DreamWorks' The Prince of Egyptback in 1998. That film ended up legging it past the $100 million mark domestically, and the $200 million mark worldwide.

Box Office: ‘Minecraft’ Mints More Gold With $80.6M, ‘King of Kings’ Leads New Films With $19M
Image
There’s no slowing down A Minecraft Movie, which hurtled past the $550 million mark at the global box office on its way to likely becoming the first title of 2025 to join the $1 billion club.

The Warner Bros. family event pic easily stayed No. 1 in its second weekend with a huge domestic haul of $80.6 million. It has now earned $281 million in North America and $296.6 million overseas for a worldwide total of $550.6 million. The foreign tally includes $20.5 million from China, one of the best showings in recent memory for a Hollywood title (Legendary East is handling the film there). However, Minecraft did tumble 68 percent in its second weekend after the Chinese government said it would further restrict film imports amid the ongoing tariff war with the Trump administration.

Thanks in large measure to the astonishing performance of A Minecraft Movie, box office revenue in North America is once again on par with...

New Jesus Christ Movie Almost Loses Fresh Status on Rotten Tomatoes, but the Audience Score Paints a Different Picture
Image
Over the years, there have been multiple projects about Jesus Christ. Whether it's Mel Gibson's critically acclaimed 2004 film The Passion of the Christ, the limited series Jesus of Nazareth, or 1988's The Last Temptation of Christ, there have been plenty of projects to follow the religious figure.

Ahead of Easter, a new film following the life of Jesus Christ premiered in theaters: The Kings of Kings. However, the movie is an animated film aimed at children, with Oscar Isaac voicing the main character. Following its debut in theaters, the movie had a positive Rotten Tomatoes score from the critics, but it's now close to losing its "fresh" status, while the audience couldn't disagree more.

The King of Kings debuted with a positive score of 76% from the critics on the review-aggregator website. The score was encouraging enough, but, as more reviews came in, the animated film's rating started to worsen.

Oscar Isaac's Animated Jesus Christ Movie Dethrones The Prince of Egypt to Set Major Box Office Record
Image
Angel Studios has set a major box office record with the release of The King of Kings. The animated film, featuring Oscar Isaac as the voice of Jesus Christ, was already heading into a strong weekend with around $14.6 million earned from presales, and now it's officially set a new high in theaters.

Its last reported numbers, per Deadline, were at around $17.6 million. This dethrones DreamWorks Animation's The Prince of Egypt, which was released 27 years ago, for the record. The movie opened in Friday in over 3,200 locations nationwide.
