The Best Movies Based On 'Unfilmable' Books
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The book-to-screen adaptation is a tried and true formula that has led to some of the best movies of all time, like "Jurassic Park" and "The Wizard of Oz," which unknowingly paved the way for the success of "Wicked." However, not all adaptations receive the same praise. Movies like "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" and the messy adaptation of "The Dark Tower" have been criticized for glossing over too many details. This proves that not all books, no matter how easy they might seem to adapt were meant for the big screen.

While some books are destined for a cinematic future, others have been deemed unfilmable. Perhaps a plot relies too heavily on mystical beings, sometimes tales are controversial and unsettling, which could turn away moviegoers. It's a label that some filmmakers walk away from, while others...

Wbd's David Zaslav Reportedly Looking To Replace Mike De Luca & Pam Abdy Following Several Box Office Flops
Image
A recent rumor that David Zaslav might be thinking about making a major change at Warner Bros. following a number of box office disappointments appears to have been confirmed.

According to Bloomberg, the Warner Bros. Discovery CEO is currently engaged in "early and informal" talks with potential successors to studio heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy. Joker: Folie à Deux's abysmal box office performance is believed to be a major reason for the change, but Todd Phillips' critically-panned sequel is not the only recent WB movie to underperform at the box office.

Bong Joon Ho's Mickey 17 will reportedly end up costing the studio between $75 million to $80 million over the course of its theatrical run, and the studio is also coming off another bomb in Alto Knights - although Zaslav is believed to have greenlit the movie himself despite others voicing concerns about it having limited prospects.

Though...

How That ‘White Lotus’ Monologue Came Together: Sam Rockwell, His Acting Coach and a Leap of Faith
Image
For Terry Knickerbocker, the call came in the dead of night.

It was Sam Rockwell, his longtime friend and client. Knickerbocker, a renowned acting coach based in New York, has worked with Rockwell on every gig since the early 1990s, helping Rockwell find the shades and contours of everyone from Chuck Barris to Bob Fosse.

So close are the two, Rockwell served as best man at Knickerbocker’s wedding and thanked Knickerbocker by name when he accepted his 2018 Oscar for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Rockwell, 56, was calling from South Africa, where for months he had been working on a grueling shoot for Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, a sci-fi feature also starring Juno Temple from director Gore Verbinski. The film requires him to recite a 10-page monologue.

“We worked on that monologue for months just to hit all the points,” Knickerbocker, 69, says.

But it was not that movie that he was calling about.

'Sicario: Day of the Soldado' Is Headed to Netflix Next Month
Image
Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is on a hot streak of late, with his neo-Western drama hit having helped the writer, director, and producer carve out a genre all his own. However, despite his recent smash hits, not everything Sheridan has crafted has been as successful, as this divisive action crime thriller, which is headed to Netflix, proves.

Released back in 2018, Sicario: Day Of The Soldado sees Stefano Sollima take over directing duties from the first movie’s Denis Villeneuve and picks up following the events of 2015’s Academy Award-nominated Sicario. Starring Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Jeffrey Donovan, and Raoul Trujillo, all of whom reprise their roles from the first outing, with Isabela Moner, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener joining the cast, Sicario: Day of the Soldado will be available to stream on Netflix from April 1. You can check out the official synopsis below.

Taylor Sheridan’s $75 Million Neo-Western With 62% on Rotten Tomatoes Is Charting on His Home Streamer
Image
Mere days after the first season of Yellowstone premiered in 2018, Taylor Sheridan penned the screenplay for a crime thriller that’s becoming a streaming hit nearly seven years later. Sheridan wrote Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which is a direct sequel to 2015’s Sicario, although it only returned Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin and not Emily Blunt and Jon Bernthal. Sicario 2 hit Paramount+ not long ago, and the film wasted no time cracking the top 10, sitting at #4 at the time of writing. Sicario 2 earned scores of 62% from critics and 66% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, which falls well below the 92% and 85% scores of the original. Matthew Modine, Isabela Merced, and Catherine Keener also star in Sicario: Day of the Soldado.

Taylor Sheridan's 10-Year-Old Action Film Finds New Success On Streaming Ahead of Sequel's Netflix Release
Image
Most of Denis Villeneuve's films received critical acclaim. Although the director is currently best known for his work on the Dune adaptations, he has also directed several other successful films, including 2015's Sicario.

The action crime thriller Sicario is one of the best CIA films of all time. The movie marked Yellowstone creator's screenwriting debut, and the team up was very successful. Shortly after its debut on Netflix on Mar. 2, Sicario became a hit on the streaming platform, Tudum reveals.

For the week between Mar. 3 and 9, just one day after the film's arrival on the platform, Sicario entered the charts in fifth place globally with 4.6 million views and 9.2 million hours viewed. The numbers were solely from the U.S., which was the only region that recently premiered the film.

However, in the U.S. charts alone, Sicario was in fourth place, just behind the animated face-off between Despicable Me 4 and Plakton: The Movie,...

Joker: Folie À Deux Star Lady Gaga Takes Playful Jabs At Sequel & Her Razzie Award During SNL Monologue
Image
Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie à Deux will likely go down as one of the most notorious flops in comic book movie history, as the sequel's box office underperformance and negative critical reception were made all the more surprising by the first film's huge level of success.

Though the downbeat musical does have its defenders, Phillips' creative choices just didn't click with the majority of cinema goers. The lead performances from Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga did come in for a lot of praise, but it didn't stop the pair from being nominated for - and winning - several Razzie awards.

Gaga was the guest host for this week's episode of Saturday Night Live, and used the opportunity to take a few playful jabs at the movie, and her own Razzie win.

“Anyway, I’m an actor now,” the Oscar and Grammy winner said during her opening monologue. “I select films...

10 Years Later, This Intense Taylor Sheridan Film Is Still Better Than His Yellowstone Universe (& It’s Streaming on Netflix)
Image
Taylor Sheridan's name is now synonymous with the hit Paramount+ Western franchise Yellowstone. However, a decade ago, years before Yellowstone began, he wrote the script for 2015's Sicario.

Sicario, which comes from Dune director Denis Villeneuve, is now available to stream on Netflix. The film follows a principled FBI agent, Kate Macer (Emily Blunt), who is assigned to a task force to destabilize the Mexican drug cartels, working alongside a shady CIA agent, Matt Graver (Josh Brolin), and CIA-trained assassin Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro). The movie was a major hit that led to a film series which, so far, consists of two installments.

The Awards season catch up doesn't just begin and end with 2024 movie releases. With the 97th Academy Awards on the horizon, it is time to revisit old winners, and really consider if they deserved that victory. Conversations have emerged on social media recently about which award the academy is most commonly "wrong" about. Unfortunately for fans, the general consensus was that they usually stumble when it comes to one of the most important awards of the night.

Those who don't keep up with the Academy Awards may think that the Best Supporting Actor/Actress award is just a stepping stone to greatness, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Just last year, Robert Downey Jr. tore through the awards season with his portrayal of Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer,...

Jane Fonda Says ‘Woke Just Means You Give a Damn About Other People,’ Calls on Hollywood to Fight With Empathy in SAG Awards Speech
Image
Jane Fonda is urging Hollywood to confront these fraught times with empathy.

“What we, actors, create is empathy. Our job is to understand another human being so profoundly that we can touch their souls,” said Fonda, who was honored on Sunday night with SAG’s life achievement award. “And make no mistake, empathy is not weak or woke. By the way, woke just means you give a damn about other people.”

During her lively speech, Fonda made oblique references to the political environment and the Trump administration’s drive to cut federal jobs. “A whole lot of people are going to be really hurt by what is happening,” she said. “Even if they’re of a different political persuasion, we need to not judge but listen from our hearts.”

Fonda also spoke to the power of unions — like SAG-AFTRA — to protect people during unsettling moments in history. “I’m a big believer in unions.

Who Is Percy Jackson's Father?
Image
Rick Riordan's first Percy Jackson novel, "The Lightning Thief," was first published in 2005, riding on a wave of ultra-popular young adult fantasy literature that persists to this day. One can easily see that the "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" books lift a lot of ideas from J.K. Rowling's blockbuster Harry Potter novels and follow a lot of the same story beats. Both were about young men who, while living unhappy lives among the hoi polloi, discover they actually possess royal blood. Their previously unknown lineages allow them access to worlds of magic and/or deities, which they are able to explore through either a wizards' boarding school (in Harry Potter) or a demigod summer camp (in Percy Jackson).

Both Potter and Jackson also have to face off against intergenerational enemies that are directly linked to their absent parents; with Potter, it was a wizard named Voldemort, and with Jackson,...

'NCIS' Fans Will Love 'Basic' From the Director of 'Die Hard'
Image
Success on television doesn’t come bigger than NCIS. The franchise was conceived by Donald Paul Bellisario, a former sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps who had previously found success with the original Magnum P.I., starring Tom Selleck. Jag was the first show in the franchise, followed by NCIS. Since then, there have been five babies, namely : NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawaiʻi, NCIS: Sydney, and NCIS: Origins.

All NCIS shows stick to the same narrative formula. The Major Case Response Team (McRt) of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service of the United States Department of the Navy investigates crimes committed by or linked to members of the United States Navy and Marine Corps (Usmc), and their associated branches of government. Over 1000 episodes are available across all shows, hence fans of military procedurals have no shortage of stories to follow, but fans will also love Basic,...

Lady Gaga Breaks Silence On ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Negative Reviews: “You Keep Going Even If Something Didn’t Connect In The Way You Intended”
Image
Months after her latest film Joker: Folie à Deux opened to bad reviews and very disappointing box office, Lady Gaga is sharing her perspective on the matter.

“People just sometimes don’t like some things,” Gaga told Elle in an interview published Tuesday. ‘It’s that simple. And I think to be an artist, you have to be willing for people to sometimes not like it. And you keep going even if something didn’t connect in the way that you intended.” She adds that the fear of failure is what can be really damaging: “When that makes its way into your life, that can be hard to get control of. It’s part of the mayhem.”

Todd Phillips’ musical sequel, which saw Joaquin Phoenix reprise his Oscar winning role of the DC villain and also starred Gaga, followed the first 2019 film, which at one point was the highest grossing...

Joker: Folie À Deux Lady Gaga Breaks Her Silence On Negative Response To Todd Phillips' DC Box Office Flop
Image
Joker was a record-breaking $1 billion success in 2019, landing countless award nominations and even a "Best Actor" trophy for lead star Joaquin Phoenix.

Despite him and filmmaker Todd Phillips vowing to never make a sequel, they reunited for Joker: Folie À Deux and turned to singer and actor Lady Gaga to bring Lee Quinzel to life. Given a massive budget by Warner Bros. - the studio was likely convinced more box office success was guaranteed - Phoenix and Phillips chose to make a musical that, ultimately, no one wanted to see.

That's evident from a dismal $206 million haul at the global box office and the only awards Joker: Folie À Deux looks set to win this year are Razzies.

Elle recently ran a profile on Gaga and asked her about what proved to be a rare career misstep with Phillips' DC Comics adaptation.

"People just sometimes don't like some things," Gaga acknowledged.

Golden Globes Host Nikki Glaser Reveals Controversial Joker: Folie À Deux Joke She Cut From The Show
Image
Comedian Nikki Glaser has been widely praised for her hosting duties at this past Sunday's Golden Globes.

During her monologue, Glaser took aim at Diddy, Ben Affleck, Ariana Grande, and more, though the jokes - which definitely pushed the boundaries at times - didn't feature the same spiteful undertone as when Ricky Gervais hosted, for example.

Still, the host (who many of you may not realise voiced DC's Cheetah in Robot Chicken a few years ago) did leave a handful of jokes on the cutting room floor which she decided went perhaps a step too far.

Among them was a brutal jab at last October's Joker: Folie à Deux.

Glaser did poke fun at the failed musical on air and asked the audience, "Where is their table? Oh, that’s right, they’re not here." However, a far more controversial version saw her say, "I saw ‘Joker 2’ and, you know,...

Golden Globes Host Nikki Glaser Rips Into Joker 2 After Panned Sequel Wasn't Nominated

The Golden Globes were the first award event of 2025 and celebrities put on their best clothes and hoped to hear their names in the categories they were nominated for. Celebrating the best in TV and film, the ceremony had comedian Nikki Glaser as this year's host, and she also addressed Joker: Folie à Deux.

As she started her 10-minute opening monologue, the comedian acknowledged some of the film and TV stars attending the ceremony. She praised Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett, and Colin Farrell for their range in both TV and films, as well as Eddie Redmayne joining TV shows with The Day of the Jackal. As she moved on to talk about films, she also addressed the critically acclaimed musical Wicked, while also making fun of the critically panned Joker: Folie à Deux.

Golden Globes Host Nikki Glaser Mocks Joker: Folie À Deux During Opening Monologue
Image
Nikki Glaser hosted last night's Golden Globes ceremony, and after last year's Jo Koy debacle, the consensus seems to be that the often controversial stand-up comedian did an excellent job.

Glaser, who is known for her scathing celebrity roasts, did have to tone herself down somewhat for the awards show, but still managed to slip a few outrageous observations and acerbic barbs in during her opening monologue, and Joker: Folie à Deux found itself in the firing line.

“Where’s the Joker 2 table? Oh right, they’re not here…”

One could argue that Todd Phillips' much-maligned sequel is a bit of an easy target, but to be fair, Glaser didn't exactly go for the jugular here.

Folie à Deux was met with negative reviews and had grossed just $206 million at the global box office (including...

Golden Globes Host Nikki Glaser Slams DC's 'Joker: Folie à Deux'
Image
While the Oscars and Emmys are a prestigious affair, with the occasional joke and a lot of tears, the Golden Globes often take a more relaxed approach to the awards show format. Past years have seen Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Sandra Oh, Andy Samberg, and Ricky Gervais tear into the attendees, while taking jabs at some of the biggest pop culture moments of the year. This year, comedian Nikki Glaser hosted the event, and wasted no time ripping into one of the worst comic book movies of the year — Joker: Folie à Deux.

During her opening monologue, Nikki Glaser began joking about Wicked, the musical that is still dominating theaters. Glaser remarked about some theaters being unhappy about fans singing during screenings. "Some people complained that the movie was ruined by people singing," she began. She then quickly turned her attention to Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie à Deux, which drastically...

Movies That Do a Poor Job Portraying Mental Health Conditions
Image
The following article discusses several mental health conditions.

In cinema, it’s common to stereotype mental health and categorize characters as "unstable" due to their perceived or actual mental health illness(es). The problem with Hollywood telling stories involving mental health conditions is the villainization of characters with these issues. These inaccurate portrayals lead to unfair stigmatization against those suffering from these conditions in real life. Even in films where mental health disorders aren't villainized, inaccurate portrayals are harmful due to the way they shape audience expectations.

Such inaccuracies can lead to further stigmatization of the conditions the movies are depicting. For example, films about characters with genius-level intellect or sensationalized and exaggerated quirks don't portray the lived-in reality of people with these actual conditions. Consequently, the misinformation spread through these films can be damaging. Unfortunately, even excellent movies such as A Beautiful Mind and The Shining can inaccurately portray mental health illnesses.

Why 'Percy Jackson 3' Never Happened
Image
Hollywood has never been one to shy away from adapting beloved books to the big screen, and despite the unprecedented success of fan-favorite franchises like Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and The Hunger Games, not all reimaginings have received the same adoration and praise. In 2010, Rick Riordan's best-selling children's novel The Lightning Thief was brought to cinemas all around the world, with Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief bringing the demigod character to life with Logan Lerman stepping into the titular role.

Fans of the book series were quick to express their massive disappointment in the panned adaptation, which largely deviated from the source material and left audiences hoping for a better, more faithful version despite its solid box office earnings. Three years later, the sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters debuted, ultimately attracting the same ire from moviegoers and critics and effectively putting an end...

Taylor Sheridan Action Sequel Film Becomes Streaming Success Just Before Leaving Platform
Image
Taylor Sheridan is one of the most notable creators of the 21st century. He has made his way into both movies and television as a director, writer, producer, creator, and even actor. Right now, Sheridan's biggest-deal projects are in the TV sphere. Most notably, Sheridan created the Yellowstone franchise, whose final season of its mothership series just concluded. He has been a part of multiple Yellowstone spinoffs as well as other successful series such as Landman, Lioness, Tulsa King, and Mayor of Kingstown.

Despite this TV dominance, however, Sheridan has also been a part of a number of notable movies. He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for his 2016 film Hell or High Water. He also directed the well-received mystery thriller Wind River, which is now getting a sequel in which Sheridan is not involved. Projects like these demonstrate this creator's ability to cross over to multiple media.

Two 'SNL' Legends Reunite in This Dark Comedy That Will Make You Rethink the Afterlife
Image
Though Maya Rudolph won't be getting an extended Saturday Night Live run, we can always find consolation in diving into the Loot star's lesser-known hits — like Forever, a 2018 dramedy led by the ever-hilarious Rudolph and SNL co-star Fred Armisen. Created by Parks and Recreation writer/producers Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard, Forever is a Prime Video hidden gem, a slow-burn exploration of love and the commitment it necessitates that also stars Academy Award-winner Catherine Keener. Surreal, silly, and oftentimes thought-provoking, the series delivers a twist on the classic marriage story and life-after-death trope. Forever is both underrated and understated, featuring surprisingly subtle performances from two comedy legends that you don't want to miss.

Joker: Folie à Deux Finally Finds Success on Streaming After Bombing in Theaters
Image
2019's Joker was a huge success, a film that combined superhero lore with a modern discussion about mental health. However, the highly-anticipated sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, wasn't the hit everyone expected, but it has finally found success on streaming.

The sequel brought back the original team made up of director Todd Phillips and lead actor Joaquin Phoenix, adding Lady Gaga to the mix as Harley "Lee" Quinzel. Following its Oct. 4, the movie was plagued with negative reviews, leading to one of the most disappointing box office grosses of the year. However, according to FlixPatrol, Joker: Folie à Deux has finally found success on streaming, currently topping the charts.

'Joker: Folie a Deux' Finds Redemption Streaming on Max
Image
Joker: Folie a Deux is finally finding an audience following its debut on Max on Friday. The incredibly divisive sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of the year for many moviegoers, with the musical take on the DC villain being slammed by both critics and audiences on its theatrical release in October.

While successful movies such as Deadpool & Wolverine took around four months to find a home on streaming, the Joker sequel has arrived on Max, and HBO, after just two months. Warner Bros. Discovery clearly hopes that dropping the film on streaming in the run-up to the Christmas period will see many people checking it out as an alternative to the glut of festive movies dominating streaming.

For now, and as a given, the strategy seems to have paid off, as Joker: Folie à Deux has reversed its theatrical...

The most divisive superhero flick of the year is now streaming. Joker: Folie à Deux barely limped past its $200 million budget and left critics wondering “Who is this movie for?” It did have some notable fans, however. Francis Ford Coppola and Quentin Tarantino praised the Todd Phillips film, with the latter noting its intentionally provocative nature in an appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. Quentin Tarantino Responds To Joker 2 Praise Backlash: "What Do You Care What the F*ck I Like?"

Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie à Deux was not a popular movie (32% on Rotten Tomatoes and just $206 million at the global box office), but several notable names have come out in defence of the sequel, including Quentin Tarantino.

During an appearance on the Bret Easton Ellis podcast back in October, the Once Upon a Time In Hollywood director told the host that he very much enjoyed the film, and commended Phillips for being like the Joker himself by saying "f*ck you" to the audience and the studio.

“I really, really liked it, really. A lot. Like, tremendously, and I went to see it expecting to be impressed by the filmmaking,” Tarantino said. “But I thought it was going to be an arms-length, intellectual exercise that ultimately I wouldn’t think worked like a movie, but that I would appreciate it for what it is. And I’m just nihilistic enough...

A Major Friends Star Directed This Dark & Horrific Drama About Every Parent’s Worst Nightmare
Image
This article discusses sexual assault and child abuse.

After ten years starring in a breezy sitcom as famous as Friends, any actor might feel the urge to branch out and show the world what they're really made of. To demonstrate his versatility, David Schwimmer slid into the director's chair for the 2010 drama Trust, a cautionary tale about internet safety that is about as far from romantic comedy territory as it gets. This disturbing story of child exploitation offers no easy answers and proves that there is more to Schwimmer than the lovable goof Ross Geller.

David Schwimmer made his directorial debut with the 2007 Simon Pegg comedy Run Fatboy Run, but he was already hard at work on something far more personal and challenging. Trust reflects the Friends star's years of commitment to the support of sexual assault survivors, and his rigorously researched film is brutally honest about the effects of abuse on whole families.

Joker 2's Final Box Office Numbers Revealed Ahead Of Streaming Debut
Image
Joker: Folie a Deux's global box office returns spell out huge losses for Warner Bros., according to recently released figures. The musical film, which starred Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, is now infamous due to its divisive reception with most audiences and critics giving it low marks, with the exception of some industry figures such as Quentin Tarantino.

After a couple of months in theaters, Joker 2 grossed $206 million globally against a $200 million budget. Factoring in advertising, the film will likely be a $150 million loss for Warner Bros., which was a massive shock following the first movie's $1 billion haul. This news hits just before Joker 2 is slated to debut on Max on December 13 and HBO the following night at 8 pm Est.

'Stupid Critics': Director John Waters Calls Joker: Folie à Deux One of the Best Films of 2024
Image
To say Joker: Folie à Deux didn't meet the expectations of its prequel, 2019's Joker, would be an understatement. The critically panned sequel also flopped at the box office, and while everyone involved is trying to move on, the film has received some support from a Hollywood director.

Filmmaker John Waters of Hairspray and Pink Flamingos fame is a certified fan of Joker 2. The director praised the love story in the sequel and called it one of the best films of 2024, to the detriment of the public and critical opinion of the sequel. The director published a Top 10 list of 2024 films on Vulture, and Joker: Folie à Deux got the sixth spot.

Joker: Folie à Deux's Final Box Office Tally Revealed Ahead of Max Debut
Image
Many movie enthusiasts clearly didn't take Joker: Folie à Deux seriously and the comic book sequel's box-office returns have proved that. The final numbers are in for the film, with Warner Bros. and DC Studios finding its overall tally to be no laughing matter.

Via ComicBookMovie.com, the Joker sequel has ended its run in cinemas with a worldwide box office gross of $206 million, barely making back its $200 million budget (not including marketing costs). The film didn't even make one-fifth of what the original Joker, the second highest-grossing R-rated movie in history ($1.078 billion worldwide), made following its 2019 premiere.

John Waters' Best Movies of 2024 Includes 'Joker 2,' 'Queer'
Image
As 2024 winds to a close, film fans and critics alike begin to assemble their best of the year lists. And what list would be complete without at least one surprising entry, a film that sticks out like a sore thumb from its brethren. That's certainly the case with John Waters, the Pope of Trash himself and the creator of such gloriously quirky and even disgusting cinematic experiences, like Pink Flamingos, Hairspray, and Serial Mom.

The filmmaker released his annual top 10 list via Vulture, and amid some of the more expected titles, coming in at number six is Todd Phillips' much-maligned musical sequel Joker: Folie à Deux. It's not impossible, but the likelihood the vehicle for Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga will make many any other best-of lists this year is pretty slim. It boasts both a 32% critics and audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with Glenn Kenney of RogerEbert.com saying...

‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Hitting Max Next Weekend
Image
Warner Bros. very ambitious Todd Phillips musical sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, will debut on Max on Friday, Dec. 13 with a linear premiere on HBO on Dec. 14 at 8Pm Est.

The movie, which saw Joaquin Phoenix reprise his Oscar winning role of the DC villain, also starred Lady Gaga. The first 2019 movie was at one point, before Marvel Studios/Disney’s Deadpool & Wolverine unseated it, the highest grossing R-rated movie of all-time at $1.1 billion. The sequel was fully rejected by moviegoers with a D Cinemascore, opening to an awful $37.6M stateside (versus the first movie’s record October bow of $96.2M) and finaling at $58.3M domestic, $206.4M worldwide off a $190M production cost before P&a. Reports have suggested that the sequel will lose around $100M.

Joker: Folie À Deux Finishes Theatrical Run With Just $206 Million Worldwide Ahead Of Max Debut
Image
Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie à Deux will be available to stream on Max from December 13 before hitting HBO linear on December 14 at 8 p.m. Et, and the downbeat musical sequel's final worldwide box office totals are in.

Joker: Folie A Deux Comes To Max December 13
Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Jeffrey Jones, Michael Keaton, and Catherine O'Hara in Beetlejuice (1988)
Today is the day Beetlejuice Beetlejuice starts streaming exclusively on Max. It’s a Warner Bros movie, so a Warner Bros streamer gets it — makes sense, right? Not everything from the same studio can be a winner, though, and this means the movie WB released after that one is next…one of the year’s biggest flops, Joker: Folie A Deux. After Todd Philips hypothetical “what if the Joker happened in real life” movie became a smash hit, a sequel seemed inevitable, but what would it be about? It ended with Arthur Peck going to jail and why would they let him out? The answer is, they don’t…in a curveball no one was ready for, Joker: Folie A Deux is a half-musical with the songs taking place in Joker’s head.
