John Howley's 1989 animated film "Happily Ever After" was conceived as a sequel to the "Snow White" fairy tale. Its story extrapolated partly from the earliest published version by the Brothers Grimm but also partly from the 1937 Disney-produced film "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." "Happily Ever After" didn't re-use any of Disney's designs, voices, characters, or concepts (at least none that weren't already in the Public Domain), but one can see how Howley's film relied on vague cultural echoes that Disney originally yawped into the mass consciousness. Snow White (Irene Cara), for example, had almost identical hair and wore a similar dress to the version of the character designed by Walt Disney.
"Happily Ever After" staggered during its brief theatrical run, making only $3.3 million at the box office on a modest $6.8 million budget (although it was later heavily rented...

"The Ballad of Gilligan's Island," in case it needs repeating, is the single best TV theme song of all time. In addition to explicitly explaining the premise of the classic show, "Ballad" introduces every single one of its seven main characters by name. It also helps that it's one of the most insidious earworms this side of "Yellow Submarine"; once you get "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island" stuck in your head, it will never leave. Your mind will be as lost as the Minnow.
In the original pilot episode for "Gilligan's Island," back before the final cast had been selected, the theme song was a calypso number composed by John Williams. That song, however, wasn't exactly what show creator Sherwood Schwartz wanted, so he and songwriter George Wyle wrote a second, better theme.. His and Schwartz's "Ballad" was written as a sea shanty, and no one can hear its...

For 35 minutes in the middle of its nine-episode run, Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story does something special.
The fifth chapter, titled “The Hurt Man,” was written by series co-creator Ian Brennan and directed by Michael Uppendahl. It’s a single-shot conversation between Erik Menendez (Cooper Koch) and his attorney Leslie Abramson (Ari Graynor). The camera begins several feet behind Abramson and inches imperceptibly closer to Erik as he recalls his history of sexual abuse at the hands of his tyrannical father, José (Javier Bardem).
It’s a stunt, but the entire show is a stunt, so why quibble? The writing is precise, uncomfortably explicit and haunting. The formal simplicity serves its purpose, building breathless tension and putting a spotlight on Koch, who strips himself emotionally bare. We see the impact that the expurgation of these memories is having on Erik and, because we cannot see Abramson’s face,...

Saturday Night Live alum Victoria Jackson has revealed that doctors found an inoperable tumor in her windpipe amid her battle with cancer.
The actress-comedian confirmed on Wednesday in a new video for her “Is the Cancer Back?” Instagram series that her cancer had returned. She also estimated that she has roughly three years to live.

As for her course of treatment, she said her healthcare providers were going to give her a “magic pill.” “It’s going to be delivered to my front door within the next 12 hours,” she added. “It’s based on Ribociclib, and it will shrink the marble, hopefully.” Ribociclib aims to slow or stop the growth of the cancer.

"Gee, Pee-wee, do you think you asked for enough?" There's not many new updates at this time of the year (the grey zone between Christmas & New Years) but this is a fun video to feature. Actor / comedian Paul Reubens passed away earlier in 2023 at the age of 70. In remembrance of his work, the Pee-wee Herman Yt channel uploaded a pristine, 4K quality copy of his iconic Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special that aired on CBS in 1988. If you're not familiar with this X-Mas special, wondering why it's being brought up again, there's an entire Vulture article discussing its legacy within entertainment. "One of the strangest, most glorious, most improbable, most confident pieces of entertainment to appear on [TV]." Special guests include Frankie Avalon, Charo, The Del Rubio Triplets, Annette Funicello, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Whoopi Goldberg, Magic Johnson, Grace Jones, Little Richard, Joan Rivers, Dinah Shore, & Oprah Winfrey. Revered and reviled U.S. diplomat Henry Kissinger, whose death at 100 on Nov. 29 was met with the widespread view that his realpolitik was responsible for some of this country’s worst global war crimes, loved American celebrity — both his own, an expression of state power, as well as that of others, especially performers. He was “the ultimate starfucker,” noted Daniel Drezner, professor of international politics at the Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, in an appraisal published earlier this year on the occasion of Kissinger’s centennial.
Prior to meeting President Richard Nixon in 1967, Kissinger made frequent trips to Santa Monica to consult with the Rand Corporation, a global policy think tank. But after being appointed as national security adviser by the newly elected president in 1969, his profile skyrocketed — and the glitz of Hollywood was within reach. Paul Reubens, the creator of “Pee-wee’s Playhouse,” who starred in several projects as the goofy, child-like Pee-wee Herman including 1985’s “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure,” has died at age 70, his estate said Monday.
“Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness,” his estate posted to Facebook.
“Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit,” the post continued.
The actor wrote a posthumous statement explaining why he chose not to disclose his cancer diagnosis. “Please accept my apology for not going public with what I’ve been facing the last six years.

Creating stylish yet relaxed private environments in which to connect with clients is a rage in the luxury world, whether it be Gucci’s new appointment-only store on Melrose Avenue or the fact that Chanel devotes two out of four floors of its just-opened Rodeo Drive flagship to VIP suites.
Swiss luxury watchmaker Vacheron Constantin has arrived in West Hollywood with another lure: Suite 1755, an appointment-only hotel suite-turned-shopping experience that just opened inside the West Hollywood Edition hotel on the Sunset Strip.

Former Saturday Night Live cast member Victoria Jackson quoted Bible verses to support her condemnation of her city’s local Gay Pride Parade.
Footage of the 63-year-old comedian speaking at Franklin City Hall in Tennessee was streamed on the city’s YouTube channel during Tuesday’s (11 April) meeting.
In the video, Jackson – who featured on the longrunning US sketch show from 1986 to 1992 – introduces herself by name at the podium, before announcing that “God hates sodomy”.
“He hates homosexuality – he said it’s an abomination. And God hates sexual immorality, all kinds,” she says.
“And God hates pride. Like, one of the most things he hates is pride,” she adds, before reading Proverbs 11:12.
“When pride comes, then comes disgrace but with humility comes wisdom. The Lord detests all the proud of heart.”

“And God hates pride. Like, one of the most things he hates is pride,” she adds, before reading Proverbs 11:12.
“When pride comes, then comes disgrace but with humility comes wisdom. The Lord detests all the proud of heart.”
Jackson continues to cite the story of the legendary biblical cities Sodom and Gomorrah, arguing their downfall “proves...

The B-movie world has lost one of its most iconic filmmakers, as The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Bert I. Gordon – often referred to as “Mr. B.I.G.” by his fans – has passed away at the age of 100. Gordon produced and directed more than twenty films over the course of a career that lasted sixty-one years, from 1954 to 2015. He also wrote most of his movies. His most popular titles include The Food of the Gods, Empire of the Ants, The Amazing Colossal Man, War of the Colossal Beast, Attack of the Puppet People, and Beginning of the End.
Born on September 24, 1922 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Gordon fell in love with filmmaking at a young age, being given his first camera when he was just 9 years old. He started making TV commercials after he graduated from college, then produced the horror adventure film Serpent Island in 1954. He was also the cinematographer on that movie,...

Bert I. Gordon, the sci-fi director who aimed to terrify drive-in denizens of the 1950s and ’60s with low-budget films featuring colossal creatures, shrinking humans and radioactive monsters, has died. He was 100.
Gordon died Wednesday in Los Angeles of complications from a fall in his Beverly Hills home, his daughter Patricia Gordon told The Hollywood Reporter.
Highlights (lowlights?) on his B-movie résumé include The Cyclops (1957), The Amazing Colossal Man (1957), Beginning of the End (1957), Earth vs. the Spider (1958), Attack of the Puppet People (1958), Tormented (1960), The Boy and the Pirates (1960) and Picture Mommy Dead (1966).
In the ’70s, Gordon directed Vince Edwards and Chuck Connors in The Police Connection (1973) and wrote and directed How to Succeed With Sex (1970), Necromancy (1972), The Food of the Gods (1976) and, starring Joan Collins in the muck, Empire of the Ants (1977).

Bert I. Gordon, who was given the nickname “Mr. B.I.G.” by Famous Monsters of Filmland editor Forrest J. Ackerman not just because it matched his initials but also because it matched the director’s favorite big-screen subject — giant monsters — died today. He was 100. His daughter Patricia Gordon confirmed the filmmaker’s death to the New York Times.

Jules Dassin’s powerful picture was a hit in Europe but remained mostly obscure here, despite featuring the great Melina Mercouri and a score of Continental stars. Adapted by two blacklistees in exile it doesn’t try to hide its revolutionary aims — Nikos Kazantzakis’s uncompromised storyline places The Church as a main obstruction to social progress, justice, and life & liberty. It’s no wonder it wasn’t ‘movie of the week’ in 1957. It’s been beautifully remastered at its original CinemaScope width, uncut.

Margaret Keane, who went to court to prove that her popular paintings of children with large, sad eyes were indeed hers and not her husband’s, a tale that was told in the Tim Burton film Big Eyes, has died. She was 94.
Keane died Sunday of heart failure at her home in Napa, California, her daughter, Jane Swigert, told The New York Times.
Amy Adams portrayed Margaret Keane in Big Eyes (2014) alongside Christoph Waltz as her realtor husband, Walter Keane.
For years starting in the 1950s, Walter Keane persuaded his wife to paint for up to 16 hours a day while promoting her work as his own. Stars including Jerry Lewis, Zsa Zsa Gabor and Liberace commissioned Keane portraits, and Joan Crawford used one of her for the cover of her 1962 autobiography.

Margaret Keane, whose wildly popular paintings of big-eyed, melancholy children (and later celebrities with deep pockets) became one of the most widely recognized signature artistic styles of the late 20th Century – and whose long battle with her husband over his fraudulent and lucrative claims of authorship inspired the 2014 Tim Burton film Big Eyes starring Amy Adams – died Sunday at home in Napa, California. She was 94.
Her death was reported on her official Facebook page today: “We’re sad to announce that Margaret Keane, ‘The Mother of Big Eyes, our Queen, a Modern Master and Legend’ peacefully passed away Sunday morning at her home in Napa, CA, she was 94.”
Her daughter Jane Swigert told The New York Times that the cause of death was heart failure.
Keane’s instantly recognizable paintings of children, typically portrayed and described as waifs with huge, sad and dinner-plate-sized eyes, became massively popular in the 1950s and ’60s,...

Thanks to gossip columnists, movie goers needed just one look at the title to know who starred in Death of a Scoundrel. George Sanders’s scandalous reputation was perfect fodder for this cheeky melodrama about a murdered gigolo and his long line of jilted lovers, and it’s helped by a beautiful line up of suspects including Zsa Zsa Gabor (Sanders’ real-life ex-wife) and Yvonne de Carlo. Director Charles Martin also wrote and produced the film and had the good taste to hire the brilliant James Wong Howe as his cinematographer.

On December 18th, 2016, the Hungarian-American actress Zsa Zsa Gabor (Sári Gábor) passed away at the age of 99. Here we are five years later and she is just now being laid to rest. So why five years later is she just now being buried? Well in true Zsa Zsa fashion...she had to take a little trip first.
Something that would make Robin Leech a little jealous. When Zsa Zsa passed away, the Hollywood icon was cremated and her ashes were placed in a very lavish urn. But that wasn't all, and certainly not enough for this Hollywood superstar. Unlike most people, her ashes got to go for one last first class joy ride that was fitting for the late actress's fancy lifestyle. The ashes were flown first class on a multi-stop international flight complete with champagne and caviar.

Five years after her death, the Hungarian star’s funeral has taken place, following a first-class journey from Los Angeles to Budapest for her remains
The ashes of Hungarian-born female actor Zsa Zsa Gabor, renowned for her diamond-studded glamour, witty quips and nine marriages, were buried in Budapest on Tuesday almost five years after her death.
Gabor’s ashes were laid to rest in a prominent cemetery in the capital city alongside other famous Hungarian actors, writers and poets, in a ceremony where a gypsy band played and her favourite yellow and pink roses were on display.

Very sad news is coming in as it's being reported that actor John Paragon has passed away. The talented performer, who was widely known for playing Jambi the Genie on the 80s children's program Pee-wee's Playhouse, reportedly died in April, though word of his death is just starting to make the press. His passing was confirmed by the Riverside County Coroner, but a cause of death has not been revealed. Paragon was 66 years old.
Many fans of Pee-wee's Playhouse would say Jambi the Genie was just as important to the show as Pee-wee Herman. The character's bedazzled face would frequently appear in a jeweled box every time Herman wished for something, usually with a big smile behind blue makeup. Paragon also provided the voice of Pee-wee's pterodactyl pal Pterri and served as a writer and director for several episodes.
Along with Paul Reubens, Paragon co-write the hit 1988 television special Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special.

The 78th annual Golden Globes take place virtually Sunday night on NBC with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey returning as hosts. “Mank,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “The Crown,” “The Flight Attendant” and “Ted Lasso” are among the top nominees in the feature film and TV categories.
Also in contention is a movie called “Music” that was shot in 2017 and marks the directorial debut of the singer Sia. While it merits a mere 11% at Rotten Tomatoes, it reaped nominations for Best Musical/Comedy and star Kate Hudson. These bids harken back to 1982 when Pia Zadora won New Star of the Year for the well-stuffed turkey “Butterfly.” She also won the Razzie Award for the film which also starred Orson Welles.
And just who was Zadora’s competition for New Star of the Year? Elizabeth McGovern and Howard Rollins Jr. for “Ragtime”; Kathleen Turner for “Body Heat” Rachel Ward for...

Mark Twain said “If you don’t like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes.” That applies just as well to 1987’s Amazon Women on the Moon, John Landis’s unofficial sequel to Kentucky Fried Movie and the bastard child of Joe Dante and Jon Davison’s The Movie Orgy. Like those back-handed tributes to the disreputable entertainments of our youth, Amazon Women is a smorgasbord of comedy skits, some served up just right and others pretty half-baked—but a judicious use of the remote control and patience rewards; overall the result is a good-natured vacation for the mind with three or four laugh-out-loud vaudeville sequences and a couple of bona-fide short-form classics. Perhaps it's fitting how much Dannielynn Birkhead loves rollercoasters when you consider the tedious climbs and sharp descents that marked her first year of life. There was the untimely passing of half-brother Daniel Smith, who overdosed while visiting mom Anna Nicole Smith and her newborn daughter in a Bahamian hospital, and the eerily similar death of the larger-than-life former Playboy model just months later. And, of course, the custody circus that ensued with freelance photographer Larry Birkhead, Smith's attorney Howard K. John Huston’s 1952 bio-pic of tortured artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec avoids most of the “tortured-artist” cliches by surrounding star Jose Ferrer with beautiful recreations of Lautrec’s world and even more beautiful women including a (believe it or not) completely charming Zsa Zsa Gabor as the flighty but sweet can-can dancer Jane Avril. Plus a moving score from Georges Auric and ravishing Technicolor cinematography by Oswald Morris. Look for bit parts from Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.

There is a reason that Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino — the married co-creators of Amazon Prime’s smash hit “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” — have twice won a record eight Emmys for the first and second seasons of the comedy hit. (Season 2 also just earned 4 SAG award nominations — the most for a comedy series — and a fourth season is in the works). The couple known for their fast-paced rat-a-tat-tat banter know how to put on a lavish show within a show that is all about entertainment and the sacrifices and benefits that is inherent in such a lifestyle.

Picture Zsa Zsa Gabor lying dead on the floor of a room as it goes up in flames. Picture her daughter singing a creepy nursery rhyme as she watches. Lifetime's You Light Up My Christmas reunites Tootie, Natalie, Blair, and Jo from The Facts of Life. It's the first time that Kim Fields, Mindy Cohn, Lisa Whelchel, and Nancy McKeon have all been on screen together since 1988. The hit series started as a spin-off from Diff'rent Strokes in 1979 and ran until 1988, making it one of the longest-running sitcoms of the 1980s. Fans of the series have waited over 30 years to see the cast together on screen. You can see them together in the trailer below.
Kim Fields stars in You Light Up My Christmas and is also an executive producer on the project. It was her initial idea to reach out to The Facts of Life cast for a mini reunion and they were all interested in helping out and getting together again, though George Clooney did not take part in the festivities. All it took was few phone calls.

In Hollywood, Zsa Zsa Gabor is considered one of the first celebrities who was famous for being famous. But a new biography about the late Hungarian-born socialite and her famous family, Finding Zsa Zsa: The Gabors Behind the Legend by Sam Staggs, argues that there was more to Zsa Zsa than her numerous husbands, diamonds and sassy quips.
Staggs, a Hollywood biographer and family friend of the Gabor’s, delves into Zsa Zsa’s private life and gives an inside look at some of her most headline-worthy scandals, from the implosion of her marriage to hotelier Conrad Hilton, to her stint in a sanitarium.

In the spring of 1968, weeks before the start of her final year of life, Judy Garland met with a biographer to discuss collaborating on her memoir. The author, Gerold Frank, was a journalist well-known for ghostwriting the life stories of celebrity women, including Zsa Zsa Gabor. The meeting, arranged through Sid Luft, Judy’s manager and third ex-husband, was set for 10 p.m. at New York’s St. Moritz Hotel. But at the appointed hour, Frank and Luft, who were dining at the Plaza nearby, got word that the superstar needed more time.

“I hate her! I hate dat qveen!” Despite being one of the most maladroit sci-fiers of the ’50s, color and ‘scope and Zsa Za Gabor’s hilarious accent make this Allied Artists offering a must-see head scratcher. Bad taste! Tacky art direction! Infantile sexist humor! The word on the street is that the Me Too movement has this embarrassing howler on their kill list.

The A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise gave us one of the greatest cinematic slashers of all time. Its score is on par with the music and sound design in Halloween and the Friday the 13th series. But while Jason Vorhees was memorialized in Alice Cooper's "He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask)" from Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives and The Ramones famously sang about Pet Cemetery, no horror icon has been better immortalized in popular song than the Springwood Slasher himself, Frederick Charles "Freddy" Krueger.
Here we present 9 of the best Freddy Krueger themed songs to brighten your nightmares in hues of red and green. That screeching sound you hear? It's either Freddy dragging his finger knives across some metal in his spooky boiler room, or it's some neighborhood alley cats reacting to the high notes in Dream Warriors
In chronological order: one, two, here's some Freddy Krueger songs for you.
