It’s been well over 3 decades since Back to the Future III graced cinemas with one of Hollywood’s most celebrated sci-fi trilogies. But for many fans, the ending never really felt like a chapter closed. While the film summed up Doc Brown and Marty McFly’s arcs with a sappy flourish- time-traveling train and whatnot- the ending left more questions than answers for the viewers.
Teased characters, loopholes in the plot, and the secret lives of Doc’s children fueled years of speculation and, most importantly, a wish for continuation. Despite screenwriter Bob Gale’s repeated refusal to revisit the franchise and consider a fourth film, fans remain firm on their stance that the final film left a lot of loose ends. In fact, the third film’s ending should be a good reason for a sequel.

The Cobra Kai Season 6 finale was something of a dream, not only did it provide a satisfying ending to the long-running series, but it also left a lot of Easter eggs behind for fans to find. One such Easter egg that caught the eyes of fans was a Back to the Future reference.
The showrunners, Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz, gave a cheeky nod to the trilogy by talking about creating a Bttf revival spinoff in the finale. However, Back to the Future screenwriter Bob Gale quickly shut down the speculation, addressing the tease in a recent interview.

“They’d be silly not to be skeptical, but luckily this movie just happens to have one of the best fan bases,” says Noel Carey, one-half of the Tony-nominated composing team responsible for bringing the cult-classic 1992 film Death Becomes Her to Broadway. Although screen-to-stage adaptations are always dicey propositions, he shares that diehard fans have embraced the musical: “They are really excited about the changes and the nods to the film and instead of getting the movie twice, they’re just getting another Death Becomes Her.” Carey and other creatives from the production sat down with Gold Derby and other journalists at the 2025 Tony Awards Meet the Nominees press event.
Fellow lyricist and composer Julia Mattison believes the reason why this theatrical treatment of the material has been so well received is because she and Carey feel just as passionately about the original movie as decades-long fans do. She explains,...

Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis developed an interest in film and television at an early age and first worked in his native Chicago as an editor for TV commercials and news programs. This work led him to apply as a transfer student to the University of Southern California film school where his application material included a music video, set to a song by The Beatles. (Not surprisingly his first film would be “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” about a bunch of high school students obsessed with Beatlemania.)
He was initially rejected by USC but he begged an official to reconsider and promised to bring his low grade point average up by attending summer school. This brashness would also play a big part in his initial success as a director when he barged into Steven Spielberg’s office with a copy of his student film and asked Spielberg to employ him. The...

Are you in the mood to stream an Oscar-nominated dramatic thriller starring Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington? If you answered yes, I’ve got you covered, dear reader. The film in question is Robert Zemeckis’ 2012 tale of a troubled airline pilot, Flight. Zemeckis helmed from a script penned by John Gatins (Real Steel).
Flight was nominated for two Oscars in 2013. The Academy nominated Washington for Best Actor in a Leading Role and Gatins for Best Original Screenplay.
The setup for this tense effort starring Denzel Washington is this:
Commercial airline pilot Whip Whitaker (Washington) has a problem with drugs and alcohol, though so far he’s managed to complete his flights safely. His luck runs out when a disastrous mechanical malfunction sends his plane hurtling toward the ground. Whip pulls off a miraculous crash-landing that results in only six lives lost. Shaken to the core, Whip vows to get sober.

The next entry in our ongoing series of mood-lifting films is a love letter to Robert Zemeckis’s 1978 comedy about Beatlemania fangirls
When it comes to feelgood movies, it might not surprise some that a pick would come courtesy of Robert Zemeckis. After all, he has delighted us with some of cinema’s most enduring and crowd-pleasing blockbusters. But it’s not Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, nor any of the usual suspects who have secured spots on IMDb’s all-time favourites lists that I return to when I need a pick-me-up. It’s his very first film, 1978’s I Wanna Hold Your Hand: a criminally underrated gem of a debut that flopped at the box office but has always felt like something close to magic for me.

Twenty-five years ago I experienced Robert Zemeckis’ bone-chilling ghost story What Lies Beneath in theaters. I was thirteen at the time and remember being blown away by it in the moment. At the time, I was ecstatic about X-Men, which I’d seen the week prior. I distinctly remember walking out of the small theater in my home town and declaring, “That was better than X-Men!” I hadn’t seen What Lies Beneath since the early 2000s, and while I no longer think it’s better than Bryan Singer’s original entry in the long running Marvel franchise, it still holds up as a well-crafted ghost story featuring strong performances from two Hollywood icons.
The plot
Dr. Norman Spencer and his wife Claire have a seemingly happy existence living in their idyllic, lakeside Vermont home. But when Claire begins to experience unexplainable happenings in the house, she begins to suspect...

If The Gift and A Simple Plan are Sam Raimi’s most overlooked movies, then Darkman has to be his most innovative and ahead of the curve. Think about it. The film stars Liam Neeson in his first leading action role 30 years before Taken, and the 1990 superhero movie was made well before the modern-day Marvel and DC cinematic industrial complex ruled Hollywood. Of course, it wouldn’t be a legitimate Raimi outing without a dose of hair-raising horror, which is why, based on Darkman’s unheralded merits, he is the perfect director to meld the supernatural with the superhero genre with the second and third Doctor Strange movies. And you know what else, he still should get the opportunity to make a Shadow movie as he’s always wanted.
As for Darkman, it’s always been curious why the gritty, gory, grungy cult classic never received the immense praise it deserved,...

In the year 2000, Robert Zemeckis unleashed What Lies Beneath, his moody Alfred Hitchcock homage. Previously, Zemeckis had directed big budget Hollywood fare such as Back to the Future, Romancing the Stone, Forrest Gump, Death Becomes Her, Contact, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. On May 6th, Shout Factory’s Scream Factory horror label releases the film in a 4K/Blu-ray combo pack with extras. The package comes in a slipcase and with a poster while supplies last. Starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer and Norman and Claire Spencer, What Lies Beneath takes place at the couples’ tony lakeside Vermont home. They seem like they have it all; they’re well off, in love, and let’s be honest --- hot. He’s a fancy research scientist at the local college,...

There are some performances you stumble upon like a forgotten $20 in your jeans: unexpected, thrilling, and mildly unnerving. For many of us, that was Harrison Ford in What Lies Beneath. We went in expecting good ol’ Han Solo energy or Indy cracking whips and wisecracks. Instead? We got Cold. Calculated. Creepy. And needless to say, we were weirdly impressed!
Ford, the cinematic sweetheart of space smugglers and fedora-sporting archaeologists, is the last guy you’d expect to be gaslighting his wife while hiding a dead body. But here we are. What Lies Beneath isn’t just your typical ghost story. This masterpiece, helmed by Robert Zemeckis, flips the script on Ford’s heroic legacy, with Michelle Pfeiffer’s haunting performance as his wife. And boy, does it lean into the “never judge a book by its ruggedly handsome, salt-and-pepper-haired cover” lesson.

Bob Gale, the Academy Award-nominated screenwriter of all threeBack to the Futuremovies, has once again declared that there's no chance for the sci-fi adventure franchise to get a modern sequel. Gale has been vocal in the past about where he stands with regard to a sequel, but now he's addressed other possibilities, such as spin-offs, and similarly struck them down with a decisive lightning bolt.
Per a report by Screen Crush, Gale attended the Universal Fan Fest Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, where Back to the Future had its own "in-world experience." It was there that the writer addressed the chances for Back to the Future 4, and he actually gave a candid answer that should (hopefully) convince everyone not to ask him again:
"I don't know why they keep talking about that! I mean, do they think that if they say it enough times, we're going to actually do it?...

Sometimes our nostalgia is so strong that we start asking for things we don’t really need. Like Back to the Future 4. Yes, we would have taken it right off the tail of Part III, but at this point – we’re talking 25 years here – it’s just too late. And we better be happy with that because lightning isn’t going to strike the clock tower ever again.
Bob Gale – who co-wrote the first Bttf alongside director Robert Zemeckis before taking sole credit for the rest of the trilogy – is one of many key players who knows that there will never be a Back to the Future 4. Speaking with People, Gale said, “I mean, it’s like they know in every interview people say, ‘Oh Bob, when is there going to be a Back to the Future 4?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a prequel?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a spinoff?...

In just five years, the Back to the Future franchise managed to leave a mark on the history of cinema and especially science fiction. The beloved franchise gave us three movies, two of which were amazing, and one which was fine, although a bit inferior.
Created by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, the franchise was finished with the third film, but fans have been demanding more content for decades now, especially since the reboot and revival craze hit Hollywood.
Both Bobs have been adamant that the franchise was done and that there won’t be more content, but Gale was once again asked about a potential new film and he gave another clear-cut answer.

If you want to see Marty McFly and Doc go on another adventure, the Back to the Future writer Bob Galehas bad news. The iconic franchise has been entertaining fans for decades and is loved for its mind-bending take on time travel, performances, and storyline. In times when all old popular movies are being rehashed in some shape or form, Gale is strictly against reviving the franchise with a prequel, sequel or follow-up.
“I don’t know why they keep talking about that!” Gale said at a recent fan fest. “I mean, do they think that if they say it enough times, we’re going to actually do it?” While fans demanding or talking about a project usually signals its longevity or revival, Gale feels the Back to the Future story is “perfect enough” to never be touched again for the big or small screen. He further explained,

There are only a handful of actors who have achieved the level of stardom and critical acclaim as Tom Hanks. Over four decades in Hollywood, he’s worked with a roster of renowned directors like Wes Anderson, Robert Zemeckis, Steven Spielberg, and Baz Luhrmann, building a filmography rich in variety and range. Known for beloved classics such as Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, and Toy Story, Hanks’ body of work has left a profound impact on audiences worldwide.
However, even for an icon like Hanks, not every film has been a hit. Alongside his masterpieces are a few titles he might prefer to leave forgotten. Whether due to lackluster performances, disappointing box office numbers, or poor critical reception, these movies simply didn’t live up to the Hanks standard.
From early missteps to recent experiments gone wrong, here are five Tom Hanks movies that didn’t quite make the grade.

Directing the best American film of 2024 that’s also the uber-rare piece of experimental art to screen in multiplexes and––you know where this is headed––massive box-office bomb would typically spell the end of a director’s career. It’s to his fortune and ours alike that Robert Zemeckis’ well never quite runs dry, ergo: Deadline reports he’s set to direct Jennifer Lopez in the Netflix thriller The Last Mrs. Parrish, an adaptation of Liv Constantine’s novel that’ll be scripted by John Gatins (Flight) and Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton).

Dci Carl Morck is a brilliant cop but a terrible colleague. His razor-sharp sarcasm has made him no friends in the Edinburgh Police. After a shooting that leaves a young PC dead, and his partner paralysed, he finds himself exiled to the basement and the sole member of Dept. Q; a newly formed cold case unit. The department is a PR stunt, there to distract the public from the failures of an under-resourced, failing police force that is glad to see the back of him. The department is a PR stunt, there to distract the public from the failures of an under-resourced, failing police force that is glad to see the back of him. But more by accident than design, Carl starts to build a gang of waifs and strays who have everything to prove. So, when the...

Time travel is one of the coolest concepts of sci-fi; the whole idea of manipulating and bending time to take yourself to a time of your wish is fascinating, and Hollywood has surely tried its hand at it. There are plenty of movies out there that play with the concept, but let’s be real, not everyone can nail it, oftentimes making movies with confusing paradoxes and stories filled with plot holes.
However, there have also been several movies that came out over the years that did justice to the concept and made cinematic gold. From directors bending the rules of time to creating thrillers and romantic comedies; there is something for everyone, especially to those who like sci-fi.
Recent movies follow multiple concepts of time, from time loops, alternate timelines, and paradoxes, directors tapped into a vast playing field that is guaranteed to fulfill a nerd’s dream. So...

At the height of his movie career, Michael J. Fox was running back and forth between sets, filming his sitcom Family Ties during the day and acting in Back to the Future at night. So forgive the guy if he sometimes forgot which production he was filming at any given time.
That happened a few times on The Frighteners, an early Peter Jackson horror film in which Fox played an architect who gains the ability to communicate with ghosts after his wife’s murder. He even makes some spirit pals, including The Judge, the ghost of an Old West gunslinger.
It wasn’t a typical Fox comedy, but “I met Peter and I saw Heavenly Creatures, and I realized immediately that this was somebody really special and somebody I really wanted to work with,” he told the Toronto Star. “I would have done whatever he wanted to do.”

Beyond ‘The Shadow’ of a doubt, what’s the most entertaining live-action standalone superhero movie you can think of? Chronicle? Darkman? Mystery Men? The Rocketeer? V for Vendetta? Okay, now which is the most notorious one-off superhero flick to get badly bludgeoned at the box office, all but dashing plans for a commercial multimedia franchise before they even started? Are the two answers the same?
After denying Sam Raimi the licensing rights to adapt his lifelong dream project, Universal Studios released The Shadow in 1994, based on a character created in 1931 as a Radio narrator by American publishers Street & Smith. The film was originally meant to be directed by visionary tech-wiz Robert Zemeckis but helmed by Australian music video director Russell Mulcahy instead, following several mediocre B-movies like Blue Ice and The Real McCoy.

When most people think of Disney animation, visions of Mickey, Donald, and Goofy are likely the first few that spring to mind. However, many of Disney Animation's best and brightest have dipped their toes in other genres, and collaborated with unlikely friends as well.
Many iconic filmmakers have cut their teeth in the trenches of Disney's dark age, but it's shocking to see how many once-unknown animators became the visionaries of today. One such example features not one, not two, but four icons of the industry uniting together. And it's all thanks to one neurotic canine.

Among the many milestones "The Simpsons" has accomplished during its 35-year run, there is one unique factoid that series creator Matt Groening should rank among his proudest achievements: Three Beatles have made guest star appearances as themselves. Unfortunately, John Lennon was assassinated nine years before the series premiered on Fox, so Springfield missed out on a quarter of the Fab Four. Thankfully, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, and of course, Paul McCartney all lent their voices to the Simpsonized versions of themselves, with Ringo appearing in "Brush with Greatness," George appearing in "Homer's Barbershop Quartet," and Paul appearing in "Lisa, the Vegetarian."
In "Lisa, the Vegetarian," Lisa joyfully bonds with a lamb at a petting zoo. Later that evening, Marge serves lamb chops for the family's dinner, shaking Lisa to her core and leading her to become a vegetarian. "Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary." No, that's not the logline for the next Marvel movie, but for the four Beatles films set to be directed by Sam Mendes. It's best to clear your schedule, though, as they're all set to be released in April 2028. You read that right — four films in one month focusing on one of the most important bands in music history. If we could needle-drop "Help!" here, we absolutely would.
The frankly wild decision to make four fab films about each individual member of the Beatles was confirmed at CinemaCon, after reports last year that Mendes was giving The Beatles their own "Avengers" movies. The reveal also finally confirmed who was playing the titular band. Paul Mescal is down for Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan is Ringo Starr, Joseph Quinn is playing George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson is John Lennon, if you can imagine that.

Spielberg is often recognized for his extravagant films like Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List, which showcase his diverse filmography. However, Spielberg isn't just a director. It's become very easy to take for granted the experience of watching live actors interact with CGI creations (or really anything that isn't physically on the set of a movie or series). Even the most basic TV shows utilize green-screen now to make it look like real people are standing outside instead of in the middle of a film studio's vast warehouse. But it wasn't always like this, and it wasn't that long ago that actors having to act against the unreal was new and strange, both for audiences and the performers themselves. Though special effects had been part of filmmaking for a long time, one of the most seminal and influential films of this nature was the 1988 fantasy comedy "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."

"Blink Twice," the directorial debut of Zoë Kravitz, is a 2024' psychological thriller involving a group of people invited to a remote island as the unwitting participants of something sinister. The movie plays on class division, notably with the rich and powerful preying on the less financially privileged for their own twisted amusement. "Blink Twice" also features commentary on racial and sexual power dynamics, as sharply written as it is brutally suspenseful. This movie comes from a longer tradition of intrigue and deceit, often revolving around enigmatic male figures keeping dark secrets from their romantic partners.
Whether it's the French fairy tale Bluebeard or contemporary thrillers, "Blink Twice" follows an enduring narrative archetype while making it its own. With that in mind, there are countless movies to check out if you're looking for more thrillers after "Blink Twice" kept you at the edge of your seat.

Nothing destroys a film's momentum quite like bombing at the box office. While poorly received movies can still be successful should they gross a lot of money, even the most critically acclaimed film is considered a failure if it fails to make its money back upon release. Walt Disney's entertainment juggernaut is all too familiar with financially destitute films, as not every picture can be a winner.
Most know Walt Disney Studios for its load of successful Marvel, animated, and Star Wars movies, Disney's films are all over the list of the worst box office bombs of all time as well. From the well-known to the more forgotten, Disney has made its mark in the annals of most successful and least successful films. Most know Walt Disney Studios for its load of successful Marvel, animated, and Star Wars movies, Disney's films are all over the list of the worst box office bombs of all time as well. From the well-known to the more forgotten, Disney has made its mark in the annals of most successful and least successful films. But some flopped so badly as to be considered the very bottom of the bottom.

For the past three decades, Disney has been steadily transforming its library of classic animated movies into live-action features. So it was inevitable that Snow White would join the ranks of the remakes, to be followed by Lilo & Stitch this summer, and Moana next year. There are five other animated remakes currently in development, and at some point, Disney’s going to run out of movies to make twice!
To mark Snow White’s arrival in theaters on Friday, we’ve ranked every Disney live-action remake. There are some caveats, however. This list is limited to the actual remakes, rather than prequels, spinoffs, and sequels. The so-called live-action Lion King is also excluded, since it wasn’t live-action at all. It was just made with some very realistic CGI, and it belongs among animated films rather than in this roundup of live-action Disney remakes. With that in the mind, here...

Taylor Sheridan's array of TV shows like "Yellowstone" and "Landman" and movies like the Denis Villeneuve-directed "Sicario" have made him one of the hottest creators in Hollywood, which means the wildly successful actor-writer-director-producer can afford to speak his mind on many things. As it turns out, some of his stances are so bold that they're bordering on controversial -- at least, when it comes to one particular (and particularly beloved) Tom Hanks movie.
The film in question is "Forrest Gump," the warm-hearted 1994 comedy-drama that gave Hanks his second Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar and truly cemented his status as one of America's all-time acting greats. During a 2024 appearance on "The Joe Rogan Experience" (via Dexerto), Sheridan revealed that he deeply despises the movie due to the way its portrayal of the titular character differs from his own storytelling sensibilities:

Robert Zemeckis played into one of the biggest phobias of flyers. He took the fear of crashing a flight and added a whole lot of twists to it. Thanks to him, catching a flight has never been more scary. And who did he use to instill this fear? The legendary actor Denzel Washington.
The 2012 film follows Washington’s character, Captain Whip Whitaker, an experienced yet deeply flawed airline pilot who miraculously crash-lands a malfunctioning plane while under the influence. It was not the crash-landing part that left the viewers in awe, but the brief moment where he flew the plane upside down to avoid the nosedive that had fans holding onto their seats.
Whitaker, with his skills, maneuvers Flight 227 upside down mid-flight, flying it inverted to slow its descent before pulling off an emergency landing that saves most of the passengers. Pretty heroic, right? That’s how the world saw...

Although Bruce Willis is often named as part of the “Planet Hollywood” trio that includes Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, he is certainly not only defined by his roles in action films. John McClane of the Die Hard franchise is undeniably one of the most influential action heroes of all-time, but Willis was also a very versatile actor who worked alongside great auteurs like Rian Johnson, Robert Zemeckis, M. Night Shyamalan, Terry Gilliam, and Richard Linklater. Although Willis has sadly retired from acting due to his diagnosis with aphasia, he did some of the most interesting work of his entire career within the past decade. Willis appeared in Wes Anderson’s charming coming-of-age dramedy Moonrise Kingdom, and he was so good that it is a tragedy that they didn’t get to collaborate on any other films together.
