Netflix's Sequel Pilot To Lisa Bonet & Marisa Tomei's Iconic 1980s Sitcom Adds New Cast Members
Image
Decades after A Different World ended, the Cosby Show spin-off is gearing up for a sequel, and it finally has a cast. The original A Different World show ran from 1987 to 1993 and followed Lisa Bonet's Denise Huxtable and Marisa Tomei's Maggie Lauten as they attended an Hbcu (Historically Black College or University). After the second season, however, Bonet and Tomei both left the show, due to Bonet's pregnancy. Tragically, several A Different World cast members have died since the show's conclusion, including Lou Myers (Vernon Gaines), Diahann Carroll (Marion Gilbert), and Rosalind Cash (Dean Hughes).

According to a report by Variety, Netflix is already planning an updated cast for its sequel show. While there is no word about what will happen to the late actors' characters, the pilot has cast six series regulars already. Chibuikem Uche will be playing Kojo, Maleah Joi Moon will be Deborah, Cornell Young will be Shaquille,...

The screenplay was written by Ivan Martin.

“We are thrilled to bring Zach Golden’s and Ivan’s Martin’s fun, exciting, action packed script to life,” said producer Joseph Restaino.

Before landing his lead role in Tina Fey’s Netflix dramedy series “The Four Seasons,” U.S.-based Italian multi-hyphenate Marco Calvani had not acted in over a decade.

But he gradually made the transition to becoming a playwright and film director.

“By the time I wrote my fourth play, I started to direct and I was like, ‘I don’t want to act anymore. It’s great, but everything I’ve learned as an actor, now I want to put it into writing and directing,'” he recalls in an interview with Variety.

'It Was Hard Not to See Norman Osborn': How Spider-Man Role Impacted Working With Willem Dafoe for Co-Star of New Film
Image
Finn Wolfhard is about to star inThe Legend of Ochi, a family-friendly A24 film about a young girl named Yuri (Helena Zengel) and her adventure with an Ochi, a creature she's been taught to fear. But also starring in the film is Willem Dafoe, and Wolfhard was totally awestruck by him.

"For the first few days, it was hard not to see Norman Osborn," Wolfhard told People of his co-star. Norman Osborn, aka the Green Goblin, is one of the most feared and famous villains of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Originally debuting in Spider-Man back in 2002, he proved to be everything audiences wanted in a supervillain, and he came close to killing Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker a couple of times.

Dafoe returned as Norman in the multiverse adventure Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, and quickly established himself as a terrible threat to Tom Holland's Peter Parker as well.

How to watch the Captain America movies in order (including the Avengers)
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise is the most successful in Hollywood history. It has grossed over $31 billion at the box office and its legacy will continue in the years ahead, with plenty of exciting titles on the horizon. From the Infinity Saga to the Multiverse Saga and beyond, fans are loving what the MCU is producing.

There are countless beloved heroes in the franchise, but Captain America might just be the most important of all. The Star-Spangled Man With A Plan is, after all, the first Avenger, so it makes sense that he be at the center of the franchise - and he was, for the longest time. As one of the leaders of the Avengers and a pop-culture legend even within the fictitious world of the franchise, Chris Evans' Steve Rogers was a fixture of the MCU until 2019's Avengers: Endgame when he handed the shield over to longtime friend,...

Zendaya Once Credited This Unexpected Cast Member As Real Mvp Of Spider Man: No Way Home
Image
Zendaya on the real Mvp of Spider Man: No Way Home ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

In an interview with Marvel, she didn’t hold back: “She raised a great young man, and she’s done it on her own. She doesn’t get the credit she deserves.” For Zendaya, it wasn’t Tony Stark or any other mentor who shaped Peter Parker into the hero fans loved, it was May. “It’s important to acknowledge May in the respect that everybody is like, ‘Oh, he always has to have a mentor,’ all these father figures and all this stuff. But May has raised him. Shoutout to May!”

And honestly? She had a point.

Spider-Man: No Way Home wrapped up Tom Holland’s trilogy with nostalgia, heartbreak, and multiversal chaos. But amid the surprise returns – Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina – it was May’s quiet strength that anchored Peter’s emotional arc.

Sally Field Didn't Mince Words About Her Feelings Playing Aunt May In The Amazing Spider-Man
Image
When Marc Webb directed "The Amazing Spider-Man" in 2012, many audiences felt ambivalent. It had only been five years since Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3," so that seemed like a very swift turnaround time for a continuity reboot of a well-known superhero. Little did audiences know in 2012 that only two years would elapse between Webb's 2014 sequel "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and Anthony and Joe Russo's "Captain America: Civil War," which featured yet another rebooted version of Spider-Man. That meant there were three mainstream theatrical versions of Spider-Man in nine years. To put that in perspective, there were only three Indiana Jones movies from 1981 to 1989.

That also meant there were three versions of Aunt May, Peter Parker's long-suffering aunt who struggles to pay the bills and doesn't know her nephew is Spider-Man. In Raimi's "Spider-Man" films, Aunt May was played by Rosemary Harris. In "Civil War," she was played by...

Five Times Sitcom Stunt-Casting Somehow Turned Out Great
Image
One of the most obnoxious sitcom tropes is when a show becomes popular enough that celebrities begin appearing on it as themselves. Now, some shows have made it work. Insane guest stars are The Simpsons thing, for example. And Curb Your Enthusiasm is about a guy in show business, so celebrities playing themselves makes total sense. But when a show is about ordinary people yet gigantic household names keep showing up on their doorstep the reality of that world is blown apart.

There have, however, been a handful of times when a celebrity played themselves on a sitcom and actually pulled it off. These are the top five…

5 Marisa Tomei on ‘Seinfeld’

Tomei’s appearance on Seinfeld worked out of sheer absurdity alone. The very idea that the pathetic George Costanza (Jason Alexander) would be exactly her type is funny on its own, but when George and Marisa meet, the comedy is sublime.

I Can’t Forgive MCU if ‘Brand New Day’ Repeats the Comics Storyline to Erase What ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Achieved
Image
So, you’re telling me Marvel might be hitting the reset button on Spider-Man’s entire emotional journey? Again? Look, I love a good multiverse twist as much as the next nerd, but if the MCU decides to hit the magical undo button on one of the most powerful moments in superhero cinema, I will personally web-swing into Kevin Feige’s office and demand justice.

We’ve seen it before, comic book storylines getting a little too convenient, like an “oopsie, my bad” moment that resets everything because feelings are hard and consequences are scary. But let me be clear, some things should never be undone, and if the Brand New Day storyline creeps into the MCU, we may be in for a timeline catastrophe that not even Doctor Strange can fix.

Ava DuVernay, Olivia Colman, Javier Bardem Sign Open Letter Criticizing Oscars’ Response to ‘No Other Land’ Co-Director Attack
Image
A new open letter signed by around 600 Oscar voters, including Ava DuVernay, Olivia Colman and Javier Bardem, has criticized the leadership of the The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for its initial response to the recent assault and arrest of Oscar winner Hamdan Ballal.

“It is indefensible for an organization to recognize a film with an award in the first week of March, and then fail to defend its filmmakers just a few weeks later,” the open letter updated Friday and signed by AMPAS members across a range of genres, including documentaries, stated.

The AMPAS voters were reacting to a statement put out Wednesday by Academy leaders Bill Kramer and Janet Yang that suggested the beating and arrest of recent Oscar-winner Hamdan Ballal is something Academy members will have “many unique viewpoints” on.

Other well-known Academy members who signed the letter include Mark Ruffalo, Oscar-winning Zone of Interest director Jonathan Glazer,...

“He could FaceTime it in here”: Ralph Macchio Did the Impossible With Cobra Kai, but His Plan for Another ‘90s Revival Has a Bigger Problem Than Mr. Miyagi
Image
Ralph Macchio is not done with Daniel Larusso yet as he returns in this year’s Karate Kid: Legends alongside Jackie Chan. The actor finally had his arc completed in Netflix’s Cobra Kai along with William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence. The show reunited many of the iconic characters from the ‘80s The Karate Kid franchise and gave them an arc.

While the reboot of The Karate Kid may have worked out, Macchio’s wishlist for another of his classic’s reboot may not be as easy as Cobra Kai. The actor mentioned that he was having conversations with writers for a reboot of My Cousin Vinny, which starred Joe Pesci and Marissa Tomei, who also won the Oscar for the role.

Sylvester Stallone Called This Comedy The Worst Movie In His Filmography
Image
If you've paid any kind of attention to Sylvester Stallone's film career for any amount of time, you know he's made some absolutely terrible movies. To be fair, some were out of necessity. Prior to becoming a big screen superstar in 1976 with "Rocky," a briefly homeless Stallone starred in a quickie pornographic romance called "The Party at Kitty and Stud's" (which was rereleased post-stardom as "The Italian Stallion"). Around the same time, he also appeared in the low-budget terrorism thriller "No Place to Hide," which was recut as a comedy and dumped into video stores in 1990 with the title "A Man Called... Rainbo."

For the most part, however, Stallone has been the author of his own cinematic misery. After the wild critical and commercial success of "Rocky", the star went on a decade-plus tear during which he could get anything greenlit. At first, he put his newfound box office...

If Ralph Macchio has his way, Vinny Gambini may find himself in a courtroom once again. While speaking with People at PaleyFest, Macchio teased that he’s spoken with writers about a possible sequel to My Cousin Vinny, the comedy in which he starred alongside Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei.

“Yeah, I’ve had conversations with other writers about that,” Macchio said. “Yeah, that one’s a beloved piece. It’s about finding the smart angle in.“

Although Pesci doesn’t exactly do a lot of acting these days, Macchio knows that the great actor would need to be involved, at least in some way. “He could FaceTime it in here,” Macchio suggested. I’m not sure if that would fly.

The 1992 comedy involves two young New Yorkers who are arrested in Alabama and put on trial for a murder they didn’t commit. Macchio’s character calls up his cousin Vinny,...

"It’s About Finding the Smart Angle": Ralph Macchio Teases a 'My Cousin Vinny' Reboot
Image
Ralph Macchio is not one to shun a reboot or remake of some of his popular works. From The Karate Kid to The Outsiders and My Cousin Vinny, the actor has starred in some beloved movies, with The Karate Kid being his most popular role. The franchise has been rebooted numerous times in TV and film, with the latest being Karate Kid: Legends, in which Macchio is involved. People caught up with the actor at PaleyFest and the 1992 film came up. Macchio admitted there have been conversations sorrounding a reboot. "I've had conversations with other writers about that," he said. He added: "Yeah, that one's a beloved piece. It's about finding the smart angle in.” However, Macchio had a caveat for a future reboot. He said it must involve his costar Joe Pesci, who played the titular character. He suggested Pesci's potential appearance, saying,

Ralph Macchio Says a 'My Cousin Vinny' Reboot Could Happen With Joe Pesci
Image
The 90s brought us a lot of great comedies that are still talked about today. Groundhog Day, Dazed and Confused, Friday, and Clueless are a few that come to mind, but there is one that often goes overlooked when being added to "Best Of" lists: My Cousin Vinny. Starring Joe Pesci, Marisa Tomei, and Ralph Macchio, the film earned Tomei an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, and at the time, it was a box office smash. Now, almost 35 years after it made its world premiere, Macchio says there is the possibility that a legacy sequel could be in order.

Speaking with People at PaleyFest on Saturday, March 22, the subject of a reboot of My Cousin Vinny was broached to Macchio, who recently found success starring in Cobra Kai, the sequel series to one of his other beloved classics, The Karate Kid. While nothing has been made official, the 63-year-old actor...

Miami Beach Mayor Withdraws Plan to Evict O Cinema Over ‘No Other Land’ Screenings
Image
Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner has withdrawn his proposed plan to evict O Cinema from its publicly owned building over the theater’s decision to screen the Oscar-winning documentary “No Other Land.”

Instead, he said at a City Commission meeting on Wednesday that he wants the theater to offer “a fair and balanced viewpoint” going forward, according to the Miami Herald. The update comes the same day that city officials were set to vote on the theater’s future.

Commissioners Tanya Katzoff Bhatt, Laura Dominguez, Alex Fernandez, Kristen Rosen Gonzalez and Joseph Magazine voiced their disagreement with Meiner’s plan at said meeting, while David Suarez offered his support. The vast majority of local attendees were in opposition to Meiner’s proposal, per the paper.

“I legitimately viewed this as a public safety threat,” the mayor said. “I really am appreciative of the passion that we saw today.”

Image
Michael Moore, Barry Jenkins, Marisa Tomei, Ezra Edelman, Phil Lord and more than 600 other members of the international filmmaking community have signed an open letter to the Mayor and City Commission of Miami Beach over their proposed censorship of “No Other Land.”

“We, the undersigned members of the international filmmaking community, write to express our deep concern and condemnation of your attempts to censor O Cinema, a local independent movie theater, for its exhibition of the Academy Award-winning documentary, ‘No Other Land,’ by withholding its funding and ending its lease,” the Monday letter reads.

“O Cinema has a long history of supporting important and diverse viewpoints that foster dialogue. We as filmmakers invite critical discussion of any film, but your decision to punish O Cinema for screening ‘No Other Land’ is an attack on freedom of expression, the right of artists to tell their stories and a violation of the First Amendment,...

Before Winning an Oscar, Kevin Kline Was Warned About Getting Involved With ‘These Monty Python People’
Image
While the Academy Awards don’t often honor actors for comedic work, over the decades a few funny performances have still slipped through the cracks, such as Marisa Tomei, who won for My Cousin Vinny. And even then, some people tried to claim that her well-deserved win was really due to some kind of La La Land-esque screw-up.

One memorable comedy win came in 1989, when Kevin Kline took home the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for playing the psychotic dum-dum Otto in A Fish Called Wanda. This probably would have been the biggest shock of the night, if not for the fact that it was the same ceremony that opened with a trainwreck of a musical number starring Rob Lowe and Snow White.

During his speech, Kline shouted out the film’s screenwriter John Cleese, who he jokingly claimed once told him, “I want to write a movie where you get...

Reading Time: 3 minutes

As we previously reported, Gene Hackman passed away at the age of 95 this week.

Hackman was a Hollywood legend with two Oscars and countless incredible performances to his name. But his death is generating headlines for reasons that have nothing to do with his career accomplishments.

The actor was found dead alongside his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and one of the couple’s dogs.

Police have deemed the circumstances “suspicious,” and the more we find out about his bizarre case, the more questions we’re left with.

New Tom Holland ‘Spider-Man’ Going A Week Later In July 2026
Image
Sony and Marvel Studios’ new untitled Spider-Man with Tom Holland and from Destin Daniel Cretton is going a week later on July 31 instead of July 24 in 2026.

What’s so special about July 31 over July 24? It’s the last Friday in July, which essentially where Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine played to an opening of $211.4M domestic, $444.7M worldwide.

There’s something else though: Spidey on its old date was going in the immediate week wake of Christopher Nolan’s new Matt Damon movie The Odyssey on July 17 from Universal. On its new date, Spidey is two weeks from Nolan’s feature take of the Homer epic, and now going up against Spin Master/Paramount’s Paw Patrol 3.

It can also be inferred that Nolan will at least get his fair share of Imax screens — for about two weeks. Likely another reason why Spider-Man moved.

Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president...

Jerry Seinfeld Was Nervous To Meet A Sports Legend On His NBC Show
Image
Throughout its brilliant nine-season run, "Seinfeld" brought a number of celebrities on to play amusing caricatures of themselves. Raquel Welch (star of "Scarsdale Surprise"), Marisa Tomei and "The Velvet Fog" Mel Tormé are just a few big names that got in on the fun, but it's arguable the most memorable drop-ins came from the world of sports. Given that Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David are both massive sports fans, this shouldn't be surprising, but it is interesting that both men managed to get players from their favorite, and very different, New York baseball teams to guest on the show.

David, a well-known Yankees fanatic, prevailed upon newly minted World Series champions Derek Jeter and Bernie Williams to appear on the Season 8 episode "The Abstinence" in 1996. Though not anywhere near a top-tier episode, Jeter and Williams were game and comfortable within the comedy genre – which is not always the case for...
