Ruth Buzzi, the actress and comedian best known for her time on “Laugh-In,” died on Thursday. She was 88 years old.
The five-time Emmy nominee’s family revealed her passing in a Facebook message on Friday morning, writing that she “died peacefully in her sleep at home in Texas. She was in hospice care for several years with Alzheimer’s disease.” As such, the family has also requested that donations be made to Alzheimer’s research in lieu of any flowers.
“Ruth Buzzi brought a singular energy and charm to sketch comedy that made her a standout on ‘Laugh-In’ and the ‘Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts,'” National Comedy Center executive director Journey Gunderson said in a statement. “Her characters, especially the unforgettable Gladys Ormphby, captured the delightful absurdity of the era. We remember her with admiration and appreciation for the joy and laughter she brought to generations of fans.”

The Billboard 200 albums chart measures the top releases during the weekly tracking period every Friday through Thursday. While it used to be determined strictly by record sales, the ever-changing landscape of music consumption led Billboard to update its methodology for the 21st century.
In 2014, Billboard started considering multiple metrics of music success, including online streams and individual track sales, in addition to the traditional album sales that previously made up the entirety of the Billboard 200's chart determinations. An album sale currently counts as one album unit. Sales of 10 individual tracks also counts as one unit. But an artist needs 3,750 ad-supported streams or 1,250 paid subscription streams to equal one unit. Then in 2020 Billboard began counting music videos on platforms like YouTube.

The core audience for screen depictions of Hollywood has always been Hollywood itself. Apple TV+’s anxiety-inducing Tinseltown sendup The Studio — about a midlevel exec, played by co-creator Seth Rogen, who is promoted to studio chief and finds himself irreconcilably torn between making art and the bottom line — is the ultimate series à clef. Rest assured that industry types are parsing every frame, wondering who’s based on whom, and hoping they’re not the ones being lampooned. And if not, why the hell not?
Warner Bailey, creator of the popular insider Instagram account Assistants vs. Agents, attended the show’s star-studded L.A. premiere in March and recalls the nervous excitement in the room. “You’d look around and there was like a flash of pain on people’s faces. They were laughing but also gasping when the absurdity would unfold. It became very clear that people saw themselves on the screen.

Cautious optimism. This had been the mood, earlier this year, of many of New York City’s top brokers as they navigated the challenges of low inventory and high interest rates. Then came the stock market convulsions and recessionary fears triggered in April by President Trump’s sweeping tariffs. “Even with financial uncertainties — political instability, layoffs and global tensions — New York’s real estate market remains resilient,” said Steven Cohen of Douglas Elliman, speaking before the market convulsions. “Moving to its own rhythm and continuing to attract discerning buyers and investors — quite a bit of opportunity in the market right now.”
The volatility Cohen alludes to has since dramatically increased, as has the likelihood of a slowdown in the luxury real estate market. Yet the source of New York brokers’ optimism remains unchanged: a belief that the Big Apple will always find a way to thrive in the long term,...

Aimee Lou Wood made waves last weekend when she called out Saturday Night Live for a White Potus sketch that featured a “mean” impression — mainly, Sarah Sherman impersonating Wood with a massive pair of prosthetic front teeth. “Last thing I’ll say on the matter. I am not thin-skinned. I actually love being taken the piss out of when it’s clever and in good spirits,” she said on her Instagram Stories, per Deadline. “But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth, not bad teeth.”
Wood is hardly the first to get prickly about SNL’s insensitive impressions. Here are seven more celebrities who hated being ridiculed on Saturday Night Live…

As Hollywood hurtled toward the 1970s, the American film industry was in the midst of a revolution. The old studio moguls, who'd been flailing throughout the '60s to slake Baby Boomer audiences' thirst for movies that spoke to their generation, were being replaced by younger executives who understood the future of their business hinged on being able to palpably connect with this massive cohort.
As envelope-shredding movies like "Easy Rider," "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Graduate" became runaway blockbusters, the era's biggest directors and stars spied an opportunity to obtain greater creative and financial control of their movies. Since even the young execs were scrambling to figure out why Boomers flocked to an adaptation of a publishing sensation like "Love Story," but avoided, say, the film of John Updike's bestseller "Rabbit, Run," striking deals with artists who seemed to have their finger on the pulse of this generation, or...

As Hacks begins its highly anticipated fourth season, the Emmy-winning comedy continues to surprise not just audiences, but its own cast and creators — especially when it comes to the show's high-profile fans.

The series, which also stars Hannah Einbinder as Ava, a young comedy writer navigating her own rocky career, has earned critical acclaim for its sharp writing and three Emmys for Smart.

We all think we know Seth Rogen. He's the stoner king, the oversized kid fighting off adulthood, the comedy icon that Judd Apatow built almost from scratch after the two met just before the turn of the millennium on the set of the woefully short-lived NBC series "Freaks and Geeks." Yes, Rogen is all these things, but to limit his influence strictly to his talents as a funnyman is to wrongly shortchange him. At the not-so-advanced age of 40, the actor who was born on April 15, 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia is also a prolific writer and producer of product on screens big and small. He even co-wrote an episode of "The Simpsons."
Moreover, the Rogen that audiences saw in "The Fabelmans" from director and co-writer Steven Spielberg bears little resemblance to the Rogen who entered the zeitgeist in such fun-loving, maturity-challenged raunchfests as "Superbad" and "Pineapple Express" more than a decade ago.

Ally fans rejoiced as Lady Gaga reprised her hit song from A Star Is Born (2018) for the first night of Coachella 2025.
Following some tracks from her latest album Mayhem, as well as some of her other bops, Gaga performed her Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe-winning song ‘Shallow‘, which she originally sang with co-star Bradley Cooper for the acclaimed remake.
“You know, since the last time I played Coachella, I’ve had some songs come out,” she prefaced. “But one of them, I think back to being here and remember how special it was that I got to perform here. And we filmed a movie, a movie that changed my life, helped me say something I hadn’t said before.”
Gaga continued, “I’m so excited to sing this for you here tonight, I couldn’t wait. I hope you sing it as loud as you can. There ain’t nothing like you.

Joy Behar announced an exciting collaboration with her good friend, Whoopi Goldberg, and this time, it has nothing to do with The View.
Joy Behar’s schedule stays full even when she isn’t on The View as a cohost or moderating when Whoopi is off, even with the addition of moderating The Weekend View.
Joy loves to write plays in her spare time, and her latest, My First Ex-Husband, is currently playing on Off-Broadway.
Joy spent so much time playing her part that she got sick and was away from her seat on The View for an extended time after covering for Whoopi.
Now, it seems that Whoopi may be paying her friend, Joy, back after all that by joining her for a special one-time-only event.
Joy’s play, My First Ex-Husband, features a rotating cast including Susan Lucci, Susie Essman, Adrienne C. Moore, and now, Whoopi Goldberg is appearing in the show.

Despite the fact that it’s clearly the most cursed tourist destination since Jurassic Park, people just keep checking into The White Lotus.
The third season of Mike White’s acclaimed HBO show boasts an impressive cast — including Parker Posey, Carrie Coon and Walton Goggins — as the newest batch of existential crises-riddled wealthy vacationers.
A few months before the latest installment of The White Lotus premiered, the series was parodied by The Simpsons in the appropriately titled episode “The Yellow Lotus.”
Not much of what happened in “The Yellow Lotus” has been reflected in Season Three of The White Lotus so far. Like, there have been no fatal sea otter attacks, and Sideshow Bob has yet to make a single appearance. But, oddly enough, both shows share one specific thing in common: Barbra Streisand.

Corporations are not big fans of risk, and they're even less enamored of controversy. In sane times, they would prefer for their brands to be associated with fun, consumption, and more consumption. They want you to feel ecstatic about buying their product, and they don't want you running off to the competition to sample similar goods. Most importantly, though, they don't want to piss off their shareholders. So when their product is associated with something that bucks the system or is simply unsavory, they get their hackles up.
Once upon a time, movie studios didn't have to worry what corporations thought about their movies. Then corporations like Gulf + Western, Coca-Cola, and Sony, drawn by the glamor of the dream factory, bought into the movie business. They wanted their prestige of owning a Hollywood studio. Some of them were also keen on having their products showcased in motion pictures, a medium...

Progress is moving along swiftly on the fourth installment of the Meet the Parents movie series. A director for the project has been revealed, and it looks to be good news for fans of the films.
Per Deadline, John Hamburg is now set to direct Meet the Parents 4. Hamburg has experience with the franchise after previously working as a co-writer for the three previous Meet the Parents films, which include the 2000 original, 2004's Meet the Fockers, and 2010's Little Fockers. An official title has not yet been announced for the fourth movie, but it will likely follow a similar theme as the previous titles.
In addition to working on the Meet the Parents films, Hamburg has experience directing Stiller as the writer and director of the 2004 rom-com Along Came Polly; that movie co-starred Stiller and Jennifer Aniston. Hamburg also worked as a co-writer on 2001's Zoolander and 2016's Zoolander 2,...

Deadline reports that Meet the Parents 4 is moving forward as John Hamburg has been tapped to serve as director of the sequel. He’s no stranger to the franchise, as he has co-written the previous three installments. He’s penning the script for the new sequel as well.
Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner, and Teri Polo are all expected to return, but plot details are being kept under wraps. The last movie (Little Fockers) was released fifteen years ago, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Stiller’s kids will be the ones bringing their significant others home to meet the parents.
Joy Roach helmed the first two movies, while Paul Weitz took over for Little Fockers. Hamburg made his directorial debut on Safe Men in 1998 and went on to write and direct Along Came Polly, I Love You, Man, Why Him?, and Me Time.

The exceptional singer Alisha Chinai is celebrating her 60th birthday. In this fascinating interview, Subhash K Jha talked with her about her singing career, the song ‘Kajra Re’, music today, and so much more!
Hello Alisha, how does it feel to have come so far?
I feel like a cat who has survived nine lives. Seriously!!!
How did you bring in your birthday?
I saw The Phantom Of The Opera at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, followed by a Mexican dinner at Lyla. I couldn’t have hoped for a better birthday.
Why don’t we hear you anymore?
Is there anything worthy of me? But seriously, I am getting my Mojo back, and I hope to be reborn once again.
What do you think of the current trends in popular music?

Cheryl Gates McFadden was a dancer before she was an actress. She studied theater in college (she has a Bachelor of Arts degree) and lived in Paris for a spell, performing with the celebrated movement coach Jacques Lecoq. In New York in the 1970s, she taught dance at various colleges, and formed her own theater troupes and comedy companies. In the 1980s, she landed a few high-profile gigs serving as a choreographer and movement coach on "The Muppets Take Manhattan" and "Labyrinth." She can be seen giving her commentary in a making-of documentary on the "Labyrinth" DVD.
McFadden, however, exploded in popularity in 1987 when she was selected to play Dr. Beverly Crusher, the chief medical officer on board the USS Enterprise on "Star Trek: The Next Generation." McFadden (who was just going by Gates back then) didn't get to do much dancing on "Star Trek," but she was given a mature,...

It's probably no accident that the Screen Actors Guild chose a feminist heroine like Jane Fonda as the 60th recipient of its Life Achievement Award. Who better than an outspoken 87-year-old activist and cultural icon to meet the divisive moment with a rousing SAG Awards speech? As SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher said in announcing the honor, "Jane Fonda is a trailblazer and an extraordinary talent — a dynamic force who has shaped the landscape of entertainment, advocacy, and culture with unwavering passion. We honor Jane not only for her artistic brilliance but for the profound legacy of activism and empowerment she has created."
Fonda didn't disappoint on Sunday. Following a spirited introduction by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Fonda used her platform as a defiant, emotional call to arms and an opportunity to remind her audience of fellow actors that it's time to stand up amid a fraught political climate.

Jane Fonda is urging Hollywood to confront these fraught times with empathy.
“What we, actors, create is empathy. Our job is to understand another human being so profoundly that we can touch their souls,” said Fonda, who was honored on Sunday night with SAG’s life achievement award. “And make no mistake, empathy is not weak or woke. By the way, woke just means you give a damn about other people.”
During her lively speech, Fonda made oblique references to the political environment and the Trump administration’s drive to cut federal jobs. “A whole lot of people are going to be really hurt by what is happening,” she said. “Even if they’re of a different political persuasion, we need to not judge but listen from our hearts.”
Fonda also spoke to the power of unions — like SAG-AFTRA — to protect people during unsettling moments in history. “I’m a big believer in unions.

Over the last few years, the Oscars have had their fair share of notable, eye-catching moments, from Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway's little oopsie when they inadvertently announced the wrong winner for Best Picture to "Parasite" dominating to Will Smith and the infamous slap. But while moments like "La La Land" briefly taking the Best Picture Oscar from "Moonlight" are as unforgettable as they are awkward, they only tiptoe so close to the precipice of absolute, wild insanity. It's not as if "La La Land" actually did steal an Oscar away, for example. And it's not as if a film or person has won an Oscar only to lose it.
As unprecedented as that sounds, though, you only have to cast your gaze as far back as the 1969 Oscars ceremony to glimpse some truly jaw-dropping one-time events. For instance, that's the year when the Best Actress Oscar went to...

For the bulk of his career, Leslie Nielsen was best known for his stern, dramatic roles. His tall stature and low voice had casting directors offering him parts as commanders, leaders, and even heavies. Many might recall Nielsen's stone-faced turn in 1956's "Forbidden Planet" as the captain in "The Poseidon Adventure," or playing a cop in the 1972 cop drama "The Bold Ones: The Protectors." In 1977's "Day of the Animals" he plays a manly outdoorsman who loses his mind and, quite darkly, declares insane dominion over animals and women. Some might recall that he can hold his breath a long time, as he declared in "Creepshow." Many will be shocked to witness Nielsen beat and assault Barbra Streisand in the 1987 drama "Nuts."
However, Nielsen did appear in a handful of comedies, most notably, playing Dr. Rumack in the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker farce "Airplane!" The parody proved that he had a talent for deadpan comedy,...

To say Berlin is a big city by European standards is an understatement — it has the largest population in Germany with 3.8 million residents and spans 23 miles.
Thus, you should never tackle Berlin without a plan, especially due to its unpredictable weather, which ranges from sunny and cold to overcast and cold to rainy and chilly in February.

It’s terrifying when SNL impressionists have to face their real-people targets in a controlled environment. Before Mark Wahlberg confronted Andy Samberg on an episode of Saturday Night Live, he let the world know he wasn’t happy about Samberg’s impression. “I’m going to crack that big fucking nose of his,” Walhberg told Jimmy Kimmel in 2008. “Then I’m going to tell him, ‘Say hi to your mother for me.’”
Considering it was live television, Samberg escaped his brush with Wahlberg without injury. But Laraine Newman had no such guarantees when Barbra Streisand wanted a word in private. In Season Two, Newman performed a devastating parody of Streisand songs in a medley titled “Me”:

Best Actress is consistently one of the most interesting categories in any Academy Awards ceremony. Not only is it usually far more interesting than its male counterpart—largely thanks to the abundance of rich female performances in any given year—but it has also presented some of the most exciting races in the ceremony's history. From Katharine Hepburn versus Barbra Streisand in 1969 to Viola Davis versus Meryl Streep in 2012, Best Actress has been home to some brilliant showdowns that have gone on in Oscar history.

If you want to get a feel for what cinema was like in a given year, looking at that year's best picture nominees would seem to be a good place to start. After all, only between five and 10 movies have received such a distinction annually, and since people voting work in the entertainment industry themselves, it's understandable they'd choose the cream of the crop, right?
Wrong!
It shouldn't be hard to find at least five amazing films each year, yet every so often, the Academy honors something that wasn't a hit with critics or audiences. People are quick to point out the worst Oscar best picture winners ever, like "Crash" and "Green Book," but when you expand that to nominees, you really wind up with some dreck (with a couple even taking home the big prize). For this list, we took the worst 10 films ever nominated based on their critics' Rotten Tomatoes scores.

Josh Brolin is the Oscar-nominated actor who has jumped back and forth between prestige projects and big studio titles, including his most famous role as the big purple bad guy Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) and “Avengers: End Game” (2019). Frank Sinatra was the odds-on favorite to be the big winner at the inaugural Grammy Awards in 1959, but — perhaps as an early indicator that things wouldn’t always go to plan at the Grammys — ‘Ol Blue Eyes lost out on both Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
The music industry’s most recognized awards were established in 1958 by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in the United States.
The first Grammy ceremony was held on May 4, 1959, with only 28 categories, a number that since has swelled past 100 and now settled at 91. It was attended by many of music’s elite. Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Gene Autry, Johnny Mercer, Henry Mancini and André Previn gathered for a black-tie dinner and awards presentation inside the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton.

President Jimmy Carter posthumously won his fourth Grammy for best audiobook narration at the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday.
Carter won the trophy for his narration of Last Sundays in Plains: A Centennial Celebration, a 10-track album of folk songs and Sunday school lessons from the former president. The album came out in August 2024, less than two months before Carter turned 100. He died on Dec. 29. The late president’s grandson, Jason Carter, accepted the trophy onstage.
“My grandfather was incredibly important to me,” Jason said. “Over these last few weeks, we’ve felt this enormous outpouring of love from all around the world, from many of the people in this room, and I just want to say that having his words captured in this way for my family and for the world is truly remarkable.”
Jason went on to introduce Kabir Sehgal, also onstage, who provided instrumental arrangements for the album.

Just over a month after his death on Dec. 29, 2024, at age 100, Jimmy Carter won a posthumous Grammy for Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording for Last Sundays in Plains: A Centennial Celebration. He defeated Barbra Streisand (My Name Is Barbra), Dolly Parton (Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones), producer Guy Oldfield (All You Need Is Love: The Beatles in Their Own Words), and George Clinton (…And Your Ass Will Follow). It was Carter’s fourth victory after a storied post-presidential career, the longest of any former president in U.S. history.
Carter’s one term in office was beset by challenges including economic stress, an energy crisis, and the Iran hostage crisis, the last of which largely contributed to his failure to secure a second term in the White House. He was defeated by Ronald Reagan in 1980 and left office in 1981, after which Carter focused on humanitarian work,...

A hollow, lifeless conference hall at the Los Angeles Convention Center is just about the last place you would expect to find a Grateful Dead tribute concert on a Friday night. But it was there that MusiCares put on a show for the ages, honoring the band at its Persons of the Year gala with founding members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart in attendance (drummer Bill Kreutzmann could not make the trip and delivered a message by video) and a slew of acolytes who understood the assignment.
Typically, the MusiCares dinner is a polite affair, with guests seated respectfully for most of the performances, save the all-star finale, a staple of the event. And that’s not to say that previous Person of the Year recipients — which include Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney and Barbra Streisand — didn’t have their own rabid fanbases in attendance. But the Deadheads just do things differently.

Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, the wife-and-husband producers who have 13 Oscar nominations and an Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award between them, will be honored at the Oscar Wilde Awards next month.
The 19th annual event is scheduled for Feb. 27, three days before the Academy Awards, at the historic Ebell theater in Los Angeles. Actors John C. Reilly and Éanna Hardwicke will be saluted as well.
Also new to the lineup is Will Ferrell, who will introduce Reilly and hand him his trophy. The pair, of course, have co-starred in such films as Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006), Step Brothers (2008) and Holmes & Watson (2018).
Created by the US-Ireland Alliance, the Oscar Wilde Awards celebrate the work of those from Ireland — and some who are not — who contribute to film, television and music. (Kennedy, with eight Oscar noms, and Marshall, with five, are Californians born in Berkeley and Glendale, respectively.

Quick LinksThe Original True Grit Earned John Wayne His First Academy Award2010’s True Grit Contained Elements Truer to the Book Than the 1969 OriginalJohn Wayne Starred in a Sequel to True Grit Alongside Katharine Hepburn
1969's Western True Grit was an iconic role for long-time on-screen gunslinger John Wayne. He played a character largely against type and received wide praise for his performance as Marshal Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn. The film is based on a book by Charles Portis that follows a young girl seeking to avenge her father's death with the assistance of hired guns. The reputation of the original film and its legendary status kept it from being touched by a remake for decades. But in 2010, Joel and Ethan Coen tried their hand at re-imagining the classic with great success.
