On paper, the heist movie “Reindeer Games” should have been a slam-dunk. It had action master John Frankenheimer at the helm, a buzzy cast of rising stars and reliable character actors chewing the scenery, and a clever premise in which a crew dressed as Santa Clauses robs a casino at Christmastime.

Apollo 13, NASA's third planned moon landing mission after Apollos 11 and 12, saw an extremely unlucky and nearly fatal problem become a triumphant display of human ingenuity. Pacific Palisades residents Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have pledged to help their neighbors who were impacted by the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Hanks and Wilson, who have been married since 1988, are donating $1 million toward LA fire relief across several aid organizations.

The couple collaborated on an Instagram post on Feb. 21 to share the news of their donation. The post read: “Hey friends, Like so many of us, we see the loss and devastation wrought by the Altadena and Palisades fires. The challenges to the future of these communities is immense. We are so very grateful for the First Responders and Firefighters, from all over, who fought with all they had in order to save homes and people.”

The Green Mile, a supernatural prison drama from 1999, is finding new life on the free streaming service Tubi. The Stephen King adaptation stars Tom Hanks in one of his genuinely underrated performances. The film currently sits at the third spot on Tubi's Top 10 list of the service's most-watched films.

Written and directed by Frank Darabont, The Green Mile follows a group of prison guards working at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row, or as everyone calls it, "The Green Mile." Led by Officer Paul Edgecomb (Hanks), the group receives John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a new inmate who has been sentenced to death for a horrible crime. Coffey doesn't behave like a murderer and claims that he's innocent. Edgecomb eventually realizes that the convict even possesses an extraordinary power to heal people. But we'll leave it at that for those who still haven't seen this classic, as we'd rather not spoil it for you.

The CSI: NY actor recently told Fox News that he paused his acting career in 2019 and moved to Nashville in 2021 to be with his son, McCanna Anthony Sinise, who died in January from a rare spinal cancer called Chordoma, and his wife, Moira Harris, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

“We were in the cancer fight during that time,” Sinise said. “My wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer. My son was diagnosed with this very rare cancer within two months of each other. My dad had just had a stroke, and my mom was alone, and I had to take care of her. I kind of had my hands full.”

A real astronaut explains how Apollo 13 perfectly depicts the aborted 1970 lunar mission. Directed by Ron Howard, the 1995 film follows the aborted lunar mission in which an explosion on board Apollo 13 cripples the spacecraft, severely reducing the oxygen supply and electrical power. As a result, NASA's flight controllers abandon plans for a Moon landing and quickly devise creative scientific and mechanical solutions to bring the three astronauts home safely. In an Insider video, retired NASA astronaut Nicole Stott watched and rated the realism of how outer space is portrayed in movies, including what went wrong with the mission's lunar module and how the crew returned to Earth in Apollo 13. I’m so excited to see Brendan Fraser returning this year, along with several others.

Gary Sinise has quietly been at the forefront of Hollywood for the past 30 years and has had several acclaimed supporting and leading roles in some of the best movies ever made. Having found major success during the 1990s with iconic roles in Forrest Gump and Apollo 13, Sinise has also excelled in playing complex characters in lesser-known films and political figures in incredible made-for-tv movies. While Sinises movie output has slowed down in recent years as he shifted focus to television work in shows like CSI: NY and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, he boasts an impressive and varied filmography.

The very best Sinise movies include incredible Stephen King adaptations and underappreciated releases by fantastic directors like Sam Raimi. With a talent for giving subtle and effective performances, Sinise has even showcased his skills behind the camera as the director and producer for the John Steinbeck classic Of Mice and Men.

Released in 1996 and unlike any other movie at the time, Ransom offers a fresh take on the crime thriller genre delivering a great twist that I believe makes it one of Mel Gibson's most underrated movies. More often than not, movies such as Lethal Weapon (1987), Mad Max (1979), and Braveheart (1995) are the first contenders when discussing Mel Gibson's best film. However, Ransom brings something completely new to the table. The picture challenges the lengths parents will go to to protect their child, leaving us on the edge of our seats with some truly unexpected twists especially in the finale.

Ransom succeeds in making something unique within the crime-thriller format thanks largely to the creative input of director Ron Howard. Ransom follows multi-millionaire Tom Mullens (Gibson) whose son is kidnapped. However, in the first twist of the movie, Mullens turns the tables and announces a bounty on the heads of the kidnappers live on television.

My favorite performance of Glenn Ford's career can be found in Ransom!, the original version of a popular Mel Gibson action movie from the 1990s. One of several Mel Gibson movies set in the action genre, 1996's Ransom explored the efforts of a married, millionaire father to rescue his son, who had been taken by kidnappers. In the dramatic thriller, Gibson's character refuses to pay the ransom demanded for his son's release, setting up a huge conflict with the kidnappers.

Decades before Ransom paired A-list Hollywood star Mel Gibson with Rene Russo in a cast that also included Gary Sinese and Delroy Lindo, Glenn Ford starred in an adaptation of the same story, which originated as a stage play.
