Exclusive: Goodfellas is getting behind Kevin Smith’s mission to theatrically re-release his controversial 1999 religious satire Dogma, starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as fallen angels, after a tumultuous launch first time round.

The maverick Paris-based sales company has acquired international rights to the remastered 4K edition of the film, which is screening in the Cannes Film Festival’s Cannes Classics sidebar this year.

The Cannes splash follows Smith’s announcement last October that he had gotten the rights back to the movie which had been out of his hands since the initial release. This acquisition was made by Triple Media Film in partnership with View Askew Productions.

Under the care of Triple Media Film, the film is fully remastered in 4K, and was supervised by Oscar-nominated director of photography Robert Yeoman, who was the cinematographer on Dogma, ahead of going to work on multiple films with Wes Anderson including The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Andrew Karpen, founder and CEO of Bleecker Street, has died after an extended battle with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. He was 59.

Karpen was a mainstay of the independent film industry for much of the 21st century, serving as co-ceo of Focus Features for more than a decade before leaving to found Bleecker Street, which took its name from the New York street where Focus’ headquarters was located, in 2014.

Bleecker Street made its first film acquisition at TIFF 2014 with “Pawn Sacrifice,” which starred Tobey Maguire as chess legend Bobby Fischer. In the decade since, Bleecker Street’s filmography has included movies like “Captain Fantastic” starring Viggo Mortensen and “Trumbo” starring Bryan Cranston, both of whom received Oscar nominations for their performances.

Years in the making, HBO’s planned Harry Potter series adaptation is closer than ever to coming to the small screen.

First revealed as a possibility in early 2021, the upcoming television show is expected to last for several years, with each season adapting one of the six Harry Potter novels written by J.K. Rowling.

“The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much-loved characters, and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over twenty-five years,” Warner Bros. Discovery said in a press release in 2023. “Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic, and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”

HBO has finally announced the adult cast of its Harry Potter TV series.

After months of media rumors and reports of various castings — all previously unconfirmed by HBO — the company broke its silence on the matter to announce six actors for the core adult roles of its adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved novels.

As expected, Emmy winner John Lithgow (Conclave) will take on the critical role of Hogwarts’ wise and warm Headmaster Albus Dumbledore.

During a new appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Isaacs explained how he managed his spot-on Southern accent, and how he shocked Harry Potter director Chris Columbus with his initial take on Lucius.

But The Hollywood Reporter reports that Smith has finally regained the rights to his film, and it’s returning to theaters on June 5. Prior to that, Smith will appear at special Dogma screenings all across the country, kicking off April 20 at the Grove in Los Angeles.

A few months ago, writer/director Kevin Smith confirmed that his 1999 film Dogma, which he had said was being “held hostage” by the infamous Harvey Weinstein for years, has been “bought away” from that guy by a company that was interested in having Smith take it on tour in theatres around the country. Now, we know which company has purchased Dogma – it’s Iconic Events – and they have announced that they’re giving the film a theatrical re-release to celebrate its 25th anniversary! (Or 26th.) Kevin Smith’s “Dogma” is headed back into theaters this summer.

Smith is partnering with Iconic Events for a nationwide screening of a 4K restoration of his long-unavailable religious satire on June 5, as part of its 25th anniversary. Dubbed “”Dogma: Resurrected, A 25th Anniversary Celebration,” the screening will serve as the culmination of a live tour that will see Smith stopping in various cities, screening the film and hosting live Q&As. The tour begins at The Grove in Los Angeles on Easter Sunday, April 20.

Other stops on the tour include San Diego, Phoenix, Seattle, Minneapolos, Chicago, Kansas City, Dallas, Boston, New York City and Philadelphia, before wrapping up at Smith’s own movie theater – Smodcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey.
