Paramount Hints at What’s Next For the Mission: Impossible Franchise

Ever since the release of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One in 2023, fans across the globe have been brainstorming about whether Mi-8 will be the last Mission: Impossible instalment. A recent X post by Paramount India suggests what Tom Cruise fans fear most: the end of the film series. You can check out the X post here.

Tom Cruise is in London to receive the honorary BFI Fellowship. On his trip, however, he appears to have made time for a leisurely stroll up one of the city’s most iconic buildings.

On Sunday afternoon, the Mission: Impossible actor was photographed on the roof of the BFI IMAX building in London. It’s unclear how exactly the actor scaled up the roof, but we’ve confirmed with sources close to Cruise that it was indeed him.

From the footage, which you can view below, you can see the BFI IMAX building is currently wrapped in an advertisement for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Paramount Pictures will launch the eighth installment in the franchise in the U.S. on May 23. Before that, Cruise will debut the film in Cannes next week. The movie will play Out of Competition on May 14 with Cruise, director Christopher McQuarrie, and the cast walking the famous red carpet.

In this behind-the-scenes photo from the Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning set, Tom Cruise went shirtless while filming one of the movie’s memorable underwater scenes. The film is the eighth installment of the American spy franchise and is a direct sequel to the seventh film, Mission: Impossible—The Dead Reckoning.

The latest movie picks up right where the characters left off. The main protagonist, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), continues his mission to stop the antagonist Gabriel (Esai Morales) from obtaining the AI program known as “the Entity.”

The film’s runtime is an impressive 2 hours and 49 minutes, packed with intense action sequences, emotional high stakes, and Cruise’s epic repertoire of stunts.

The quest for popcorn is about to get impossible — literally. Regal Cinemas has unveiled its promotional popcorn bucket for Paramount Pictures' upcoming Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, and it's banking on the recent trend of interactive buckets. Unlike past buckets, though, this one takes the interactive aspect to a new level, as the Mission: Impossibletie-in will see the user unlock it a la Tom Cruise in order to access the popcorn.

The bucket, shared on Regal's social media feeds, appears to be the red orb that houses the Entity, the main artificial intelligence in the upcoming film. The bucket hinges up to reveal two halves of a cruciform key that unlocks the Entity's housing, much as Cruise might do in the upcoming film when he journeys aboard the Sevastopolsubmarine. It's unclear if the locking mechanism is simply a gimmick, or if the bucket legitimately locks and unlocks.
