The X-Men is one of the biggest franchises ever, and for a long time, they have been a fan-favorite mutant group featuring Professor X and his gifted children, with several popular films and comic books that add to its popularity. While the mutant franchise is known for showcasing high-octane battles with a gripping storyline; they are equally proficient in presenting emotionally affecting sagas that would move one to tears.

Spoiler Alert!Spoilers for The Boys Season 4
The fourth season of The Boys had its premiere earlier this week with the first three episodes out on Amazon Prime Video. The stakes are at an all-time high with Homelander taking over Vought as CEO, Butcher separated from his team, and Hughie and Starlight dealing with their internal issues. The country is also divided.
While the new season introduced two new supes to the Seven, the most interesting one has to be Sister Sage. Branded as the smartest person in the world, Sage becomes a close aide of Homelander and takes over many operations at Vought. One shot from the third episode of the season reveals a particularly horrifying truth that might lead to Homelander’s downfall.

Human beings have created many strange and uncanny things ever since they came into existence, but if there was to be a competition among them, Erik Kripke’s The Boys series would most certainly, at least get an honorable mention, if not the top prize. The satirical drama series is one of the most unhinged and unbothered series of all time, filled with unexcepted characters and events that would really make one question themselves for enjoying such a show.

Taking the unexpected to a whole new level, The Boys season 4 just debuted, revealing an even stranger character. And the acclaimed English actress, Helen Mirren is furious to lose out the role to Tilda Swinton.

A column chronicling conversations and events on the awards circuit.
Ballots were delivered to eligible Television Academy members as of yesterday (due back June 24th by 10 pm pt), and that means all the months of campaigning for nominations is now in the hands of Emmy voters.
Actually, this season has been a litte weird due to the strike-related delay of last year’s 75th Emmys to January 15, as FYCs and other related events to the 76th Emmy awards season were just beginning. On top of that, the 96th Oscar season was still going full-force until mid-March. It could all get very confusing, given that a number of people up for Oscars are also in the thick of the Emmys this year, meaning they have been in essentially non-stop campaign mode — for some even as far back as Cannes 2023, and for others since the Fall festivals officially kicked off Oscar season.

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe ever since being founded in 2018 has reigned supreme on television with its ambitious Western tale of ranch life in Montana. What the series has achieved within that time, with Kevin Costner at the helm, is unprecedented in terms of episodic storytelling. Expansive, brutal, and groundbreaking – Yellowstone never falters when it comes to the narrative.
Taylor Sheridan [Credit: Paramount Network]For seven years and five seasons, the plot followed the Dutton family patriarch and the siblings as they fought against the world and clashed with each other to protect what was rightfully theirs. Now that the story comes to an explosive end, the Yellowstone ranch has yet to find a resolution without Machiavellian manipulations and political backstabbing.
The world that Sheridan built from the crevices of his imagination needs no introduction and as such, is a testament to the power and expertise of his storytelling.

SkyShowtime CEO Monty Sarhan talked about bringing Yellowstone to its European subscribers and plans to bolster the streaming service’s U.S. franchises with up to ten local originals in 2024, in a keynote at Nem Duvbrovnik.
A joint-venture between Paramount and Comcast, SkyShowtime is in over 20 European territories, localized into 19 languages, and launched in countries where its parent companies did not already have a streaming presence.
It has TV and movie content from its owners, including all theatrical releases from Paramount and Universal, and big-ticket series including Yellowstone. Asked about that show, Sarhan said the series is a cornerstone of its service: “It’s ‘the year of Yellowstone‘, that’s what we’re calling it at SkyShowtime. That’s really the biggest show in the world right now.”
The lively Nem session was hosted by the event’s founder Sanja Božić-Ljubičić who couldn’t hide her love for the Yellowstone franchise.

In 2022, Kate Winslet went to the London home of director Stephen Frears to discuss HBO’s political satire “The Regime.”
She’d been cast in the role of Elena Vernham, a narcissistic European autocrat, and Frears had been pinpointed by the production as a potential director.
“I was offered a cup of tea, which I then ended up making myself because he clearly had no intention of making the tea for me at all,” Winslet says. “In fact, he didn’t even seem to know where the cups were.” Over the tea and some chocolate biscuits, she asked the director how he believed Elena should be played.
“He said to me, ‘Well, it needs to be quite high,’” Winslet recalls. “And I didn’t have a fucking clue what he meant. And as I walked away, I realized I totally knew. It was his way of saying, ‘Go big or go home.

Before the 2024 Oscars ceremony took place, three of the four eventual acting winners had already filmed TV performances that now put them in contention for the upcoming Emmys. If Emma Stone, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Robert Downey Jr. all end up achieving TV academy recognition this year, they will set a record as the first set of three concurrent acting Oscar recipients to appear on the same year’s Emmy ballot.
Randolph, who scored an Oscar in March for her supporting turn in “The Holdovers,” is seeking her first career Emmy notice for reprising her comedic guest role of Detective Donna Williams during the third season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” According to Gold Derby’s odds, she comfortably ranks as her show’s strongest guest acting candidate, even outpacing first season nominee Jane Lynch.

In the hellscape of the movie business, very little can evade the overseeing eye of the studio system. In Paramount, Taylor Sheridan never had to face an issue of a similar sort regarding the expansion of the Yellowstone universe. But when the same studio forced its decision upon an artist of his caliber, he made sure to make the execs bleed as much as necessary to make their demands come true.

The sky must have been the limit for a young Harrison Ford sailing through Hollywood during the peak of his fame and popularity. But unlike the immortality of his legendary on-screen characters, the actor was very much bound to become a victim of his advancing age, and slowly recede into the backgrounds in favor of newer, fresher, and younger talents.

Jeremy Renner is an actor who came into limelight after a lot of struggle. Working as an extra, side characters, or being in music videos, it took some time before Renner became the household name he is today. But it would be wrong to say that he only gained commercial success, as his talent in acting even got him two Oscar nods in his career.

Yellowstone, effortlessly, is one of the best projects credited to Taylor Sheridan’s name to date, ranking among the likes of Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River, and this very series’ multiple prequels including 1923 and 1883.
But while the mastermind developed this storyline himself, not many fans know what actually induced him to spend so many big bucks on the horses for this saga.

Moreover, this dark tale not only influenced his decision to buy so many horses for his saga but can also be felt in the characters’ behaviors throughout the masterpiece series.

Kevin Costner is so heavily associated with the Western genre that he not only departed the most epic Western saga of recent years, but did so in order to make his own epic Western saga. The Dances With Wolves and Open Range legend had, in recent years, been the face of TV smash Yellowstone – the Taylor Sheridan series that became a ratings juggernaut, and spawned an entire universe of spin-off shows set in different eras of American history. But before the show's end, Costner departed the role of John Dutton III, partly in order to direct and star in his multi-part movie Western series Horizon: An American Saga. With the largely self-funded Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 hitting cinemas soon, Yellowstone fans will get their Costner Western fix – but as it stands, the star won’t appear in the upcoming final run of the TV smash.

However, there was one person who gave him quite an interesting piece of advice on how and where he should release the story. Something Costner refused to listen to.

The film saw her paired up with Leonardo DiCaprio in the doomed romance set aboard the ‘unsinkable’ Titanic in 1912. Celia Imrie completes the main cast of the film adaptation of Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club. More here.
One wonders quite when Richard Osman found the time to write a bestselling cosy crime series in between being the resident expert on Pointless (with a laptop that it turns out was never actually switched on) and the chairman of House Of Games.
However, The Thursday Murder Club quickly became a literary phenomenon, with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment snapping up the rights before it has even been published, and it stayed atop the bestseller charts for months following its release.

The Yellowstone drama has been a serious part of the modern popular culture that has filtered out of the lives of the cast, crew, and director and into that of the audience. For more than a year now, Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan have nipped at each otherʼs heels trying to resolve the issue via compromise, but while misconceptions have muddied the water for the viewers, the relationship between the showʼs director and his lead remains very much the same.

Update 21/05/24: As confirmed on the latest edition of Richard Osman and Marina Hyde’s The Rest is Entertainment podcast, the latest cast member to be confirmed is Celia Imrie in the role of Joyce Meadowcroft. Joyce would love that, we feel.
As previously reported by Variety in April 2024, Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Ben Kingsley and Pierce Brosnan are also attached to The Thursday Murder Club film adaptation, which is being directed by Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone director Chris Columbus. Mirren will of course play former spy Elizabeth, Kingsley will play psychiatrist Ibrahim, and in something of a casting curveball, Pierce Brosnan will play former union organiser Ron. That just leaves police officers Donna and Chris, and handyman/fixer Bogdan as main characters still to be announced.

After over a year hiatus, Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 has begun production in Montana, as earlier promised and then revealed by Paramount Network Monday. The Western drama series approaches its close with the final episodes predicted to land in November later this year.
Four and a half seasons of the Taylor Sheridan series have followed the Dutton Family, led by patriarch Kevin Costner’s John Dutton, who oversees the largest cattle ranch in the modern-day United States. The Dutton family faces constant challenges from those at its borders — the growing Bozeman, Montana, the fictional Indian reservation of Broken Rock and America’s first national park.
With several prequel series and a contemporary spinoff in the works, the original installment was originally set to conclude at the end of 2023, but the WGA and SAG strikes delayed production on the final episodes.

Taylor Sheridan has built a TV empire over at Paramount with the creation of various shows for the network. Yellowstone has become the flagship show for Paramount+ and Sheridan has even created various spinoff shows including 1923 and 1883. The writer/showrunner has brought in an impressive cast filled with huge movie stars and character actors for his shows.

Taylor Sheridan has no problem in bringing mainstream stars and legends to the series format as he has proven over time. No one could’ve foreseen the likes of Kevin Costner, Harrison Ford, and Helen Mirren taking on TV roles in Sheridan’s projects. He was able to bring one legend to do a cameo role in Yellowstone. Dabney Coleman, who passed away on May 16, played the role of John Dutton Sr. in the series.

There is no easy way to say it but Taylor Sheridan is a certifiable genius – the kind whose inventions do not draw ecstatic gasps or thunderous applause from the crowd but rather incite blasphemous outcries and send shockwaves powerful enough to disrupt the status quo of civilized society.
As such, Sheridan singlehandedly has the ability to stop the conveyor belt of studio production lineups or get them churning with a stroke of his pen and there arenʼt many people within the industry who hold that scale of authority or power over one studioʼs entire creative and bureaucratic system.
Taylor Sheridan [Photo: Fort Worth Magazine]In one such situation (that proved the magnitude of his authority over his intellectual properties), Taylor Sheridan once shut down Paramountʼs demand to deliver an extension of his story despite the studio greenlighting Season 2 and ironically, the execs themselves coming up with storylines, plot points, and narratives to justify the arc for another season.

Yellowstone has been, for better or for worse, the most engaging show on television for the past few years, and Taylor Sheridanʼs intellectual property has given the audience a new format of entertainment far removed from the usual crime procedural and family sitcoms of the yesteryears.
Both contemporary and operatic in scale, Sheridanʼs series has only grown more beloved over the years with the Dutton clan parallelly spawning into an intergenerational story involving such parties such as Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, and potentially Matthew McConaughey in the near future.
Yellowstone [Credit: Paramount Network]As Kevin Costnerʼs original arc slowly recedes into the background and the behind-the-scenes drama keeps unfolding, the actorʼs relationship with the director gets increasingly unstable, worrying the fans about the closure of the series. As such, emotionally invested fans of the series have been bingeing Yellowstone to awaken past nostalgia and revisit their beloved characters one last time.

Director Scott Mann’s thriller Fall, which stars Grace Caroline Currey (Shazam!: Fury of the Gods) and Virginia Gardner (Halloween 2018) as a pair of characters who get stuck at the top of a 2000 foot tall radio tower, was given a theatrical release, but it wasn’t really a break-out hit. It made $21 million worldwide, on a budget of $3 million. More viewers watched it on Amazon, purchased it on Blu-ray or DVD (order it Here), or caught it on Starz or Netflix… and Fall was so successful on Netflix, it was enough to get back-to-back sequels greenlit by Capstone Studios! Mann will be writing and directing Fall 3 himself, but he has decided to hand the helm of the middle installment of this trilogy over another director. Or, as it turns out, other directors. Horror and thriller directors Michael and Peter Spierig (Lionsgate’s Jigsaw) are set to direct Fall 2, it was announced by Capstone Studios’ CEO Christian Mercuri. Scott Mann, who directed and co-wrote the first film, is returning to co-write Fall 2 with Jonathan Frank.
Following the successful survival thriller Fall released in 2022 by Lionsgate, Fall 2 will reunite producers Mark Lane and James Harris of Tea Shop Productions (47 Meters Down), Capstone’s Christian Mercuri, David Haring, and Scott Mann via the Flawless banner.
Dan Asma, John Long, and Roman Viaris will also reunite as executive producers alongside Capstone’s Ruzanna Kegeyan. Capstone will finance the sequel, with Fall 2 set to begin shooting in June 2024.
Capstone Global is handling worldwide rights to the franchise. In late 2023, Capstone Studios greenlit both Fall 2 and Fall 3 under the franchise. Mann will return to write and direct the third installment.

Jason Statham is someone who is admirably unpretentious and genuinely grateful for his success, and within that, he has a definite preference of films that can predominantly define his career. Earlier this year, Statham was seen in The Beekeeper, a seemingly usual action B-movie fare with the star, but the movie from Suicide Squad director David Ayer would throw in some bold conceptual curve balls to the normal vengeance tale. Deadline has now reported that Statham will be working with director Baltasar Kormákur for his next action film.

In 2019, Sandra Oh simultaneously received her seventh and eighth acting Emmy nominations for “Killing Eve” (drama lead) and “Saturday Night Live” (comedy guest). Five years later, her performance bid total is set to reach an even dozen thanks to her respective lead and supporting performances in the telefilm “Quiz Lady” and the limited series “The Sympathizer.” Earning TV academy recognition for these two roles would make her the eighth woman to compete for both possible limited program acting awards at once.
In “Quiz Lady,” which premiered on Hulu last November, Oh plays Jenny Yum, a vivacious yet reckless woman who reunites with her estranged younger sister (Awkwafina) to resolve their mother’s gambling debts. “The Sympathizer,” which began airing on HBO in April, features her in the role of Sofia Mori, a 1970s Japanese American secretary who becomes entangled with a communist spy (Hoa Xuande).

Grace Caroline Currey has joined the cast of “The Breed,” and is set to lead the film. Directed by brothers Nathan and Griff Furst, the film is an “unconventional reimagining of the Wes Craven cult classic.” The brothers will produce together through their company, Curmudgeon Films.

Currey most recently starred in Lionsgate’s adventure thriller, “Fall,” directed by Scott Mann. Taylor Sheridan sparked outrage when he stated that his 2017 film Wind River played a major part in the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act that President Joe Biden signed into law in 2022. This reauthorization played a huge part in strengthening its reach to the Native communities. Needless to say, Native groups were and still are quite furious at Taylor Sheridan for trying to take credit for the decades of advocacy behind the act.
