When a Secretary of State dies under shady circumstances, she’s thrust into the role and forced to navigate not only international crises but also the chaos of home life with three kids and a rock solid husband.

It wasn’t just the intrigue of global affairs that kept audiences hooked. The...

No, you didn't read that wrong. Madam Secretary is really set to leave the platform next month, marking the end of its long streaming run. Netflix has already placed a removal notice on the show's title page on the platform. All six seasons of Madam Secretary will be removed from the service on Thursday,...

Feldstein is the latest big name to join the star-studded series, which stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as a mismatched trio of podcasters and amateur sleuths who find themselves solving a series of murders in their ritzy Manhattan apartment complex. 'Only Murders in the Building' Season 5 is filming — here’s what to expect
Image
Keegan-Michael Key, Renée Zellweger, and more join the cast as filming kicks off in NYC.

I thought Season 4 of “Only Murders in the Building” was its best so far. It was funny (obvs), but also really well paced, with multiple storylines (both inside the building and out) that kept things interesting, and a mystery that kept me hooked right up until the finale. It somehow managed to feel fresh without losing any of the charm that made the show such a hit to begin with. And just like that, our favorite amateur sleuths are back on the case — Season 5 is now filming in New York.

Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez are all returning, along with a new round of big-name guest stars. If this cast is any indication, we’re in for another fun and twisty ride. Here’s everything you need to know about Season 5 of “Only Murders in the Building....

Death of a Unicorn Ending Explained: Why Did the Unicorns Attack the Vehicle on Highway?
Image
Give the capitalist world historical creatures (read that dinosaurs) or mythical ones (unicorns here), and it will try to monetize them in whatever way it can. This is evident in the Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega starrer Death of a Unicorn, where they encounter the incensed mythical creatures after their young one dies by accident. Next thing we know, humans are trying to harvest its healing abilities for self in the name of science, money and illicit substances?

While the monstrosity of the unicorns leaves many bloodied, you’ll see how these creatures are more human than many humans when they are on their killing spree in the A24 film. Despite the horrors, it’s satisfactory to see the rich dying to what they believe can tame like Average Joes in the horse world.

Death of a Unicorn review – Jenna Ortega shines in B-movie-style satire on big pharma
Alex Scharfman
Murderous unicorns run amok in Alex Scharfman’s gory American horror that gleefully embraces a lo-fi aesthetic but lacks sufficient bite

What if unicorns were badass? What if, rather than the twee, sparkly fairy creatures that distribute magic and glittery microplastic at kids’ themed birthday parties, unicorns were fearsome beasts with deranged amber eyes, huge tombstone teeth that could sever a man’s arm, and horns covered in the entrails of their victims like flesh pennants? It’s an appetising central premise. And this Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega-starring horror comedy, produced by the achingly hip boutique studio A24, certainly delivers on the grisly, torso-skewering gore. Maybe the jokes could have been sharper, but at least the unicorns’ horns make their point.

Killer unicorns are not an entirely novel concept. The ultraviolent 2022 cult feature animation Unicorn Wars – described by its director as “Bambi meets Apocalypse Now meets the Bible...

‘Death of a Unicorn’ Review
Image
Stars: Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, Richard E. Grant, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, Jessica Hynes, Stephen Park | Written and Directed by Alex Scharfman

Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega co-star in this blackly satirical horror from debut writer-director Alex Scharfman. Produced by A24, it’s a refreshingly original creature feature that delivers a potent cocktail of dark humour, emotion and monster-related thrills.

Death of a Unicorn centres on compliance lawyer Eliot (Rudd) and his college-aged daughter Ridley (Ortega), who have had a difficult relationship since the death of Ridley’s mother, some time previously. On their way to a remote compound owned by cancer-stricken pharmaceutical billionaire Odell Leopold (Richard E. Grant), Eliot and Ridley accidentally knock down and kill a unicorn, which Ridley bonds with by touching its glowing horn, shortly before Eliot bashes its head in with a tire iron.

When they meet the rest of the...

This is slightly fewer screens than Universal’s fellow videogame adaptationThe Super Mario Bros which launched in 721 cinemas in 2023. That scored £8.7m in its opening weekend and went on to gross a mega £55m.

A Minecraft Movie is based on the multibillion-dollar sandbox game Minecraft in which players are free to build, create and form communities. Films based on video games have proved successful in the territory – all three Sonic The Hedgehog titles opened above £4m while...

Death of a Unicorn (2025) Review
Image
Compliance lawyer Elliot (Paul Rudd) is driving out into the mountains to meet with the hyper rich Leopold clan, headed by the dying Odell (Richard E. Grant) who has designs on Elliot joining the board of the Leopolds’ pharma corporation. However, before Elliot can make that seat his, the Leopolds would like to get to know him over the course of a weekend at their remote, swanky estate. His potential employers are big on strong familial bonds, which could be an issue as, although he has daughter Ridley (Jenna Ortega) in tow, she doesn’t really want all that much to do with her pop.

The strained atmosphere of the trip from the airport is tested further when Elliot manages to reduce the local wildlife by one as a result of hitting the creature with his rental car. If you’ve been paying attention to what this is called, you...

How Will Poulter Went From Conscientious Objector to Soldier of Fortune in ‘Warfare’
Image
After 20 years in the business, there are a few things that Will Poulter has noticed about his public perception, and they’ve been coming up a lot lately. The first is that few people can accept the fact that he really is British. When he appeared in a surprise guest role on season two of The Bear as the soft-spoken and heavily tattooed English pastry chef Luca, his West London accent was so authentic, nobody believed it was real. He remembers getting a review in which the critic wrote “Will Poulter does his best attempt at a British accent …”

“People are also commenting on my height,” he goes on, referencing the second thing the public gets wrong about him. “Everyone says, ‘You’re taller than I thought you’d be.’ I never know what to say — I grew up short, and it very much formed my entire personality. So, I...

Death Of A Unicorn
Image
The opening titles arrive at exactly the right moment. When a mythical horned equine suddenly expires, accidentally struck by a car, the words “Death Of A Unicorn” immediately fill the screen. It’s an enjoyable moment of schlock, gesturing to B-movie heritage, a nod to monster movies of yore. If only that sense of goofy fun fully permeated to the rest of Death Of A Unicorn. In the post-Get Out world, this is yet another bit of genre silliness that attempts, with noble intent, to staple some big, timely themes onto its goofy narrative, to somehow legitimise the daftness. Sadly, neither its high-minded nor low-minded efforts amount to much.

Paul Rudd is in both Embarrassing Dad Mode and Embarrassed Dad Mode as Elliot Kintner, an attorney being groomed for big things with the wealthy Leopold family. Rudd can do bumbling beta-male charm with his eyes closed at this point, but...

This Pair of 1998 Disaster Films Told Nearly Identical Stories -- But One Was Much More Realistic
Image
In the summer of 1998, two asteroid disaster films hit theaters just weeks apart. Armageddon and Deep Impact told nearly the same story: a massive asteroid is heading for Earth, and humanity races against the clock to stop it. Both feature ensemble casts, space missions, global panic, and sacrifices. But beyond the shared premise, the two films took very different approaches. One leaned into spectacle and style. The other aimed for something more realistic.

For years, people have debated which film did it better. But if the question is which one came closer to how an actual planet-killing event might unfold, there’s a clear answer. While Armageddon went all-in on blockbuster thrills, Deep Impact took a slower, more calculated route and ended up telling the more realistic version of the story.

Deep Impact and Armageddon Both Focus on the World's End from an Asteroid

Both Deep Impact & Armageddon, released in 1998, share a similar plot.

Box Office: ‘A Working Man’ Hammers in $5.6 Million Opening Day in Race Against ‘Snow White’ for No. 1
Image
Disney’s “Snow White” remake may melt enough in its second weekend for Amazon MGM’s actioner “A Working Man” to open on top of the box office. The close match-up for first will only yield a modest prize though, as other new features like A24’s “Death of a Unicorn” and Universal’s “The Woman in the Yard” post more muted openings.

“A Working Man” led the way on Friday, earning $5.6 million across its opening day and preview screenings from 3,262 locations. The R-rated action conspiracy thriller, which sees Jason Statham reteaming with director David Ayer just over a year after the pair bowed “The Beekeeper,” is also getting boosted ticket prices from some premium large-format auditoriums like Dolby and 4Dx.

Now projecting a $15.6 million debut, “Working Man” is pacing a touch behind the $16 million opening weekend earned by “The Beekeeper” in January 2024, which later posted a strong multiplier and...

Death Of A Unicorn North America Box Office: Thursday Preview Update (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Death of a Unicorn, starring Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd as father and daughter, opened in theatres in the United States this Friday. The film has earned a modest amount from the Thursday previews. It is expected to not have a spectacular opening weekend at the box office in North America. Keep scrolling for the deets.

The R-rated horror comedy received mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics gave it 55%, and their collective consensus stated, “Receiving some sparkle from Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega’s father-daughter rapport, its broad satire is a bit too on the horn but makes for an entertainingly splattery creature feature.” The audience, on the other hand, gave it an above-average rating of 75% on Popcornmeter.

Trade analyst Luiz Fernando’s report shows that A24’s Death of a Unicorn, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega,...

Unicorns, But Make It Murder: How ‘Death of a Unicorn’ Transforms a Timeless Tale
Image
For centuries, humans have developed fairy tales to explain the world’s mysteries, impart moral lessons, and connect communities through shared narratives. Considering how little seems to make sense across the board in today’s landscape of widening class, value, and political divides, the timing could not be more perfect for a film like Alex Scharfman’s Death of a Unicorn to appear. Tapping into the timeless allure of such legendary creatures—symbols of both wonder and caution—Death of a Unicorn highlights the intrinsic human need to find meaning in the inexplicable, whether it be the healing power of a unicorn’s horn or the battle between light and darkness. But be warned, this certainly isn’t your baby sister’s unicorn. By making just a few clever tweaks to the unicorn’s fairy tale origins, Death of a Unicorn delivers a gnarly new fairy tale for our current messed-up moment.

'Death of a Unicorn's Ambiguous Ending, Explained
Image
A24's new film Death of a Unicorn, the feature directorial debut of Alex Scharfman, was released in theaters on March 28th, 2025. Following a father and daughter who accidentally end up in battle with a family of unicorns, it stars Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Will Poulter, Richard E. Grant, Téa Leoni, Anthony Carrigan, and more. Like most horror comedies of our time,Death of a Unicorn is more than just a (genuinely kind of horrifying) romp, but a somewhat layered social commentary. So, what's the "point" of Death of a Unicorn's semi-ambiguous ending? And how does the ending tie into the film's general explorations of wealth and the exploitation of nature?

What Happens in 'Death of a Unicorn'?

Elliot Kitner (Rudd) is a lawyer who has been working for Odell Leopald (Grant), a millionaire bigwig, for several years. Mr. Leopald has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and...

'Death of a Unicorn' Stars Compare Their Villains to Musk & Melania
Image
The villains in Death of a Unicorn feel uncomfortably real, high-tech capitalists who think they're going to change the world but are really ruining it. Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, and Richard E. Grant play characters who may remind you of anyone from Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos to Sam Altman and Elizabeth Holmes. Like people peddling cryptocurreny or artificial intelligence, they want to get rich off of something that doesn't actually exist (at least in our real world) — a magical unicorn horn. When MovieWeb spoke with the cast of Death of a Unicorn, Grant elucidated this point further.

"They don't believe that they're doing anything wrong, you know?" said Grant of the antagonists in the film (and of tech bros and oligarchs everywhere). "They think that they're genuinely going to save the world and cure everything with products from unicorns. And they think that's a great thing to want to do — especially as [unicorns] don't exist.

Every Creature Easter Egg You Missed In Death Of A Unicorn
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Death of a Unicorn."

When pop culture was invaded en masse by geeks, we began to see a huge uptick of references to other movies, TV shows, and the like. Heck, you could argue that some media was created almost as a delivery system for such references — "The Big Bang Theory," anyone? Of course, references within movies and TV shows to other movies and TV shows are certainly nothing new, but the rise of geek culture sure did make what used to be implicit, explicit. That approach to references hasn't gone away, if recent films like "Free Guy" are any indication. Yet it seems like the subtler, old-school version of making references and paying homage is still alive and well, too. Easter eggs can still be fun and unobtrusive rather than a filmmaker flaunting their trivial bonafides.

An example of the latter is this week's "Death of a Unicorn,...

We Deserve a Better Takedown of the Rich Than ‘Death of a Unicorn’
Image
The rich, they are not like you and I — they see the world through the jaundiced lens of extreme privilege, they view everything from retail luxury items to relationships as disposable (and easily replaceable), they think nothing of hunting mythical beasts for sport and/or the key to immortality. Death of a Unicorn starts from the position of wanting to roast the rancidest members of the already rotten one-percent on a spit, and if there was ever a time to embrace a class-conscious horror-comedy involving giggles, rage, and gore, it’s right now.

Death Of A Unicorn – Review
Image
First off, here’s a big warning to parents looking for family-friendly fantasy flicks: this “ain’t one of those. Yes, I know that “word” in the main title caught your eye, but don’t be misled. The title’s first word should provide a hint, along with the studio producing and releasing it, the “off kilter” current “indie” studio “darling”, A24. No, it’s a satire of current events that involves the mythical title creation, a critter that’s a staple on kids’ clothing and decor. And, as with many monster movies, modern-day tech can’t really dominate the magical legends from humanity’s earliest (thousands of years) days. Films have explored this idea in “fairy tale fable fear-flicks” about mermaids and genies (or the djinn). With this week’s release, we find out what kind of carnage ensues after the Death Of A Unicorn.

The story begins on...

'Superman' Star "Hesitant" to Compare the Dcu Reboot to James Gunn's 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
Image
Anthony Carrigan, the star of TV shows like Barry, and the recent horror comedy Death of a Unicorn, is set to join James Gunn's Dcu in this year's Supermanreboot. Judging by the trailer and the reaction it got, Gunn's formal feature film introduction to the Dcu franchise promises to be a solid revival of the character. However, some viewers still associate Gunn with his previous superhero run in the MCU and the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. While keeping many of the details close to his chest, Carrigan has now teased how Superman will differ from the cherished MCU trilogy.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Carrigan talked Superman and his role as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, and while the actor didn't completely spill the beans about the superhero movie, he sounds as excited as everyone else: "I haven't seen anything, just the trailers. But I'm very excited.
