The Barney and Betty Hill Incident is one that anyone interested in alien abduction tales is well acquainted with, and it’s the basis for an upcoming feature titled Strange Arrivals.
Variety reports that Demi Moore (The Substance) and Colman Domingo (Candyman) will star in Strange Arrivals for See-Saw films, described as “an epic romance.”
Oscar-winner Roger Ross Williams (Music by Prudence) is directing the film.
Strange Arrivals is, in Variety’s words, “inspired by the incredible true story of Betty and Barney Hill, an interracial couple who, in 1961, became the first reported case of an alien abduction, as they journeyed back from their honeymoon in Niagara Falls. Their experience catapulted them to fame and celebrity, but underneath that notoriety simmered the truth of what really happened that night, which would test even the most epic of romances.”

Bristol’s leading repertory genre film festival returns for another banner year of explosive action and terrifying monster movies in 2025, with Forbidden Worlds of the Deep; a near week-long celebration of classic and cult films set on, around the ocean.
After all, 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the genre movie to end all genre movies – Jaws. And what better way to celebrate the legacy of Spielberg’s industry shifting blockbuster than with big-screen bows for some of the all-time greatest Jawsploitation knock-offs. Including schlocky camp creature-feature Alligator and a Saturday night IMAX screening of the new 4K restoration of Dino de Laurentis’s positively mental Orca (preceded by a presentation from The Bad Movie Bible’s Rob Hill).
Also Jaws-adjacent is a couple of sea monster themed curios in the James Earl Jones-starrer Blood Tide (playing late Friday night), and the first ever UK theatrical screening of Daiei...

Phil Alden Robinson's 1989 sports drama "Field of Dreams" is Americana at its corniest. In many ways, literally; the main character, Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner), bulldozes a large portion of his corn farm in order to build a brand-new baseball diamond. Ray did so at the behest of a ghostly voice that instructed him, "If you build it, he will come." Sure enough, when he builds the diamond, the ghost of "Shoeless Joe" Jackson (Ray Liotta) appears on it, still wearing his Boston Black Sox uniform, and converses with him.
Ghosts, time travel, and premonitions are a big part of "Field of Dreams," and it's implied that baseball itself is connected to divine powers that are eager to grant related wishes, calm hearts, allow for post-mortem redemption, and provide reconciliation between fathers and sons. Case in point: Ray and his wife Annie (Amy Madigan) have a dream about Fenway Park in Boston,...

We are almost to an unofficial holiday. Every May 4th is a goofy and fun one for fans of the Star Wars franchise.
But let's say, like every human being, you have seen all things Star Wars 50 times or many more times. You might want to see something some actors have been in, but not as part of your favorite sci-fi works. You're in luck because Netflix has options.
Sure, what your favorite streamer has regarding Harrison Ford projects is limited, but there are other people besides Han Solo. The four titles below will all be worth watching. Maybe start with the leading suggestion first, though.
Netflix titles every Star Wars fan will love without actually watching Star WarsThe Fall of the House of Usher (Mark Hamill)

After the passing of Ray Stevenson and the premiere of Season 1 of Ahsoka, it was clear that Star Wars had a real tough choice to make. His character, Baylan Skoll, was instantly iconic, and it was clear from the season's cliffhanger that there was so much more to tell. However, there was a real question about how to do it. Star Wars had been embracing deep fake technology, and some actors, like James Earl Jones, approved using AI for their voice and likeness before they passed away.
While impressive from a special effects standpoint, there was something about these technological choices that didn't look or sound right. Fans have been mixed on these applications in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Book of Boba Fett.
So, with the announcement of Rory McCann stepping in for Baylan Skoll and the reveal that Benjamin Bratt now plays Bail Organa in Andor,...

Broadway box office stayed strong last week, slipping a bit – about 8% – from the previous week’s record-setting tally of $51 million, settling in at $46,949,262 for the 40 productions. That’s a healthy 25% more than last year at this time.
Top earners for the week ending April 27 were the usuals: Good Night, And Good Luck, Othello, Wicked, The Lion King and Glengarry Glen Ross.
A slew of shows had their opening nights, with press and opening night comps taking bites from some. Floyd Collins opened at the Beaumont, slipping about $60,000 to $512,409, filling 82% of seats. Pirates! The Penzance Musical slipped by $21,601 to $488,275, with attendance at 98% of capacity at the Todd Haimes. With five heavily comped performances, Stranger Things: The First Shadow slipped $74,649, still landing at an impressive $1,080,720 and 95% of seats filled at the Marquis.
Dead Outlaw, which opened at the Longacre, bucked the downward trend, filling 91% of seats and jumping up $37,325 to $442,735.

Ben Affleck says that Field of Dreams star Kevin Costner was just "being kind" when he said he remembered him and Matt Damon on set. The two young actors were extras in the sports film's Fenway Park scene.
In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Affleck responded to Costner talking about the impression he and Damon made while on set. "Kevin is being kind saying he remembers us because we were not memorable," Affleck said with a laugh, adding: "It's sweet of him to say that, but I’m pretty sure he remembers the actors with lines." Previously on Jimmy Kimmel, Costner recalled Affleck and Damon as being 'on fire' while working on Field of Dreams in the late 80s.
Affleck also shared a story of a time when Costner impressed him and Damon while they were filming. "I remember we thought we knew that actors were kind of fraudulent.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon might be recognized the world over, but long before they ever reached superstar status, they were just two guys in Cambridge, Massachusetts trying to get a break in the business. As such, they took any role they could, which included extra work in Kevin Costner's 1989 memorable sports drama, Field of Dreams. "Memorable" is an important word there, because while Costner has said on many occasions that he recalls Affleck and Damon sitting in the stands of Fenway Park as uncredited extras, The Accountant 2 stars says otherwise.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live this past Wednesday, Affleck and Damon's time on Field of Dreams came up, and how they got the job. Affleck noted that they were both "serious actors from a very young age," and kept in touch with a local casting director who would let them know when something was coming to town. They...

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon started in the movie industry at a young age, and even so, they have already shown what they can offer. In fact, the power duo joined Kevin Costner’s 1989 sports drama movie Field of Dreams even though they were only extras. Well, they had to start somewhere, right?
While the Yellowstone actor claimed he fondly remembers them, Affleck is not convinced. He thinks that Costner was only being nice when he said this, but in reality, he does not really recall seeing them on the movie set.
Ben Affleck refuses to believe Kevin Costner truly remembers him

Ben Affleck remembers meeting Kevin Costner alongside Matt Damon when they were working as extras all too well.
Affleck and Damon got their start in the entertainment industry as film extras. One of their first big jobs as a duo was acting in the background of the sports drama Field of Dreams, which starred Costner. During a Wednesday appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Affleck responded to the Yellowstone actor stating he recalled him and Damon while they were working on the 1989 film.
“Kevin is being kind saying he remembers us because we were not memorable,” he joked. “It’s sweet of him to say that, but I’m pretty sure he remembers the actors with lines.”
In May last year, the Oscar winner recalled Affleck and Damon’s “big enthusiasm” working on Field of Dreams. “They were on fire. I do remember them, absolutely,” he told Kimmel at the time.

This article contains spoilers for "Andor" season 2, episode 1.
"Andor" season 2 brings the revolution back to "Star Wars," and to do so, it needs a formidable force of dictatorial bureaucracy to oppose. Fortunately, the series brings in the perfect guy for the job in the very first episode: Ben Mendelsohn's Director Orson Callan Krennic is back, and "Andor" will never be the same.
From the very first moment the Imperial director begins his big meeting scene, it's clear that major season 1 antagonists Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) and Lio Partagaz (Anton Lesser) defer to him. Partagaz even later helpfully lampshades this, in case the viewer missed the many cues of how far lower in the pecking order the Imperial Security Bureau officer is compared to Krennic.
"Star Wars" fans who remember "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" know what the fuss around the white-clad director is all about. However, the character's...

Good Night, and Good Luck, the play about Edward R. Murrow written by George Clooney and Grant Heslov adapted from their 2005 film, grossed $3,784,200 last week at Broadway’s 1,537-seat Winter Garden Theatre, breaking its own previous $3.3 million record as the highest grossing non-musical play in Broadway history.
With ticket prices also on the upswing – average cost last week for a seat to see Clooney in his Broadway debut was $303.40, with premium seats hitting $825 – the play, which stars the ER actor as Murrow and was directed by David Cromer, is taking in more money than any play in the Winter Garden’s hundred-plus years.
The previous record-setter was the 2022 musical revival of The Music Man starring Hugh Jackman, which set the Winter Garden’s house record in March of that year with a $3.5 million regular eight-performance weekly gross (that revival still holds the house record for a special nine-performance week with...

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fans love Avery Brooks as Benjamin Sisko, but there are a few surprising actors who nearly played the role!
Back in 1993, a new Star Trek series was a huge deal for fans. The casting was key for Benjamin Sisko, the veteran mourning his wife, raising a son and commanding this station. Avery Brooks was known for roles in Spenser: For Hire and A Man Called Hawk and nailed the part from the start.
The process to get there was interesting as the producers considered scores of actors. That included before changing Sisko to an African-American lead. While some names are notable, a few are quite surprising in terms of how they could have landed the part.
First, let's get out of the way a few names the producers wanted but were tied up at the time with various other projects: James Avery, Joe Morton, Carl Lumbly,...

I know, I know, Tenet had us all doing mental gymnastics, rewinding scenes like we were CIA analysts with a film degree. But five years later, it hit me: Christopher Nolan didn’t just make a time-twisting masterpiece, he kind of extended Déjà Vu, that underrated Denzel Washington-Val Kilmer flick we all half-remember from 2006.
Seriously, watch ’em back-to-back. Time loops? Check. Sci-fi tech? Yup. Stoic lead unraveling causality while trying to save the girl? Triple check. Nolan went full Nolan with it. And to be for real, I feel like I cracked a cinematic conspiracy, and no one’s talking about it. So, let’s rewind.

Nearly 50 years ago, George Lucas’ first Star Wars movie was simply called Star Wars, and not Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope when it premiered in theaters in 1977. Now, fans of the iconic franchise will be able to see the original cut of Star Wars just as moviegoers did back then. For some, it will be re-living a childhood memory and, for others, it is a chance to see the rare, original cut for the very first time.
Per Collider, the British Film Institute (BFI) will screen Star Wars in its original, rare, unaltered 1977 glory on the opening night of BFI’s Film on Film Festival on June 12. The event will be held at BFI’s Southbank Theater in London. Those in attendance will also be treated to archives and historical material from the movie, which will include deleted scenes and Polaroid pictures taken on the movie’s set.

With the insanely busy Broadway spring season nearing peak production – only one musical, Dead Outlaw, has yet to begin previews – most shows felt the heat of competition last week, with 29 of the 39 productions reporting slips in box office grosses from the previous week.
Even so, most of the productions, particularly the more recent arrivals, were enjoying the rising tide nonetheless, with Just In Time starring Jonathan Groff as Bobby Darin selling out Circle in the Square and hitting a sweet high note of $901,973 for its first seven previews. Take that, all you Dream Lover naysayers. Who is Bobby Darin, indeed. He’s Jonathan Groff, that’s who. The musical officially opens April 26.

In the 1980s, Eddie Murphy was one of the funniest comedians on the scene, starring in box office smashes, headlining iconic stand-up specials and pulling his fair amount of weight on Saturday Night Live. As the ‘90s rolled around, Murphy was on the cusp of his cold streak, but still at the point where major directors were after him. That includes Spike Lee, who tried to get him in 1992’s Malcolm X before an Oscar winner talked Murphy out of it.
As Eddie Murphy recalls in the documentary Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood (via EW), Malcolm X director Spike Lee approached him to play Alex Haley, who wrote the source novel The Autobiography of Malcolm X. But one legend put a stop to it, telling Murphy that he was of an entirely different ilk than some of his contemporaries. “Around that same time, I...

Teasers and trailers are like appetizers that make the audience hungry for the main course. More than just announcements, good trailers become events that start discussions among audiences. Studios spend their millions in producing these brief promotional videos as they form a crucial part of movie marketing strategies.
Every promotional move depends on when and where it appears. A trailer shown during the annual Super Bowl broadcast will instantly receive millions of eyeballs. Studios often want to strike viewers exactly when they are hyped up or chilling with family. The effectiveness of smart marketing strategies can make or break that first impression.

John Boyega, the actor who played Finn in Disney’s “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, recently said that he felt that “Star Wars” limited black actors to the “friend” characters. I do not believe this to be the case. Sure, Disney did do that, but many fans were upset that Boyega’s character wasn’t given a much larger role in the sequel trilogy.
Variety used a headline that indicates Boyega blamed the fans, but that isn’t exactly what he said.
During an interview in “Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood” on Apple TV+ John Boyega said,

Mufasa: The Lion King Worldwide Box Office (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Mufasa: The Lion King, released in the cinemas last year, was a significant box office success. It worried people when Mufasa opened with low numbers at the US box office. Despite a weak plot, it showed the power of family movies and great visuals. It is suffering at the box office now because of its digital streaming, and as it prepares to bid goodbye at the cinemas, let’s take a quick look at how much the movie is trailing behind its blockbuster predecessor, The Lion King.
The Lion King was released in 2019, and it is a photorealistically animated remake of the traditionally animated 1994 film. It was a huge box office success and is also one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time. It was directed by Jon Favreau featuring the voices of Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor,...

Welcome to the Gold Ticket, your VIP guide to the best of award-worthy pop culture for the weekend ahead, curated by the Gold Derby team of experts. (March 28 - March 30)
The main stream: The Studio
It’s not cinema, it's TV.
Created by Seth Rogen and his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg alongside Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez, The Studio takes viewers behind the scenes of an embattled movie studio after a reshuffling of power puts Rogen's Matt Remick, a cinephile with the best intentions, at the top of the mountain. The 10 episode series — the first two episodes of which are now streaming on Apple TV+ — reveals how the proverbial sausage is (or is not) made and how the quest for great art is complicated by money and ego in a uniquely funny series that should appeal to everyone regardless of their familiarity with the so-called "industry."

Clive Revill, the New Zealand native who after being recruited to be an actor by Laurence Olivier starred on Broadway, appeared in two films for Billy Wilder and provided the original voice of the evil Emperor Palpatine in The Empire Strikes Back, has died. He was 94.
Revill died March 11 at a care facility in Sherman Oaks after a battle with dementia, his daughter, Kate Revill, told The Hollywood Reporter.
The extremely versatile Revill played cops in Otto Preminger’s Bunny Lake Is Missing (1965), starring Olivier, and Jack Smight’s Kaleidoscope (1966), starring Warren Beatty; not one but two characters (a Scotsman and an Arab) in Joseph Losey’s Modesty Blaise (1966); and a physicist investigating strange goings-on at a haunted mansion in John Hough’s The Legend of Hell House (1973), starring Roddy McDowall.

Denzel Washington's name is equivalent to cinematic quality. His presence can completely change a film and instantly improve it. Naturally, everyone thinks of him as a movie star and a Hollywood legend. However, don't expect the star of films like Man on Fire and Malcolm X to agree with you. Per Washington's latest claims, he doesn't think of himself as a Hollywood actor at all. In fact, he doesn't even know what you would mean by that.
Washington spoke to CBS News about his latest stage play, a modern rendering of William Shakespeare's classic, Othello. During the conversation, he revealed that he sees himself as more of a stage actor than a film actor, and says that the term "Hollywood actor" doesn’t mean the same to him as it does to everyone else:
"What's the definition of a Hollywood actor? Myself, I'm from Mt. Vernon, so I'm a 'Mt.

Denzel Washington considers himself many things after a decorated, decades-long stage and film career. However, one notion he rejects is that he's strictly a movie star, insisting he's beyond the Hollywood tag people give him.
Speaking on CBS News' CBS News' Sunday Morning, Washington addressed being labeled a Hollywood actor, insisting that he doesn't know what the term means and considers himself a stage performer first. According to the Oscar-winning star, the tag is limiting, given his extensive theater work. "What's the definition of a Hollywood actor? Myself, I'm from Mt. Vernon, so I'm a 'Mt. Vernon actor,'" he said. "I don't know what 'Hollywood' means. "Somebody who's famous on film? A film actor, great success on film?"
Washington also stressed the pressures of being a theater performer, insisting that "nobody can help you" if things go wrong and that the stage tests your acting limits more than the big screen.

Denzel Washington is doing more than breaking box office records with his blockbuster Broadway outing with Jake Gyllenhaal — he’s setting the record straight on how he feels about being labeled a “Hollywood actor” who occasionally graces the New York stage.
“I’m a stage actor who does film, it’s not the other way around. I did stage first. I learned how to act on stage, not on film,” Washington declared to “CBS News Sunday Morning” host Bill Whitaker after the journalist pointed out the amount of “Hollywood actors” who have roles on Broadway this season.

Quick LinksReva's Character Arc in Obi-Wan Kenobi Was Incredibly ControversialWhy Reva's Character Still Doesn't WorkWhat Happened to Reva in the Star Wars Franchise?
Obi-Wan Kenobiremains one of the more controversial Disney+ series in the Star Wars canon even three years after its release. Fans campaigned for the project for years, demanding one more adventure for Ewan McGregor's destitute Jedi Master. However, the final product proved to be disappointing for many Star Wars fans, who praised McGregor's performance but found the overall series rather lackluster. While much better received than The Book of Boba Fett and The Acolyte, the Obi-Wan-centric series could never live up to more popular Disney+ projects like Andor and The Mandalorian.
One of the biggest controversies surrounding Obi-Wan Kenobi was Moses Ingram's character. The Queen's Gambit actress plays Reva Semander, the Third Sister of the Imperial Inquisitorious who serves as a major antagonist in the series.

Before he became a household name as the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars, James Earl Jones had already made himself known in Hollywood, delivering a breakthrough performance in the Academy Award-nominated dramaThe Great White Hope. Released in 1970, the film brings to life the struggles of Jack Jefferson, a fictionalized version of the first Black heavyweight boxing champion, Jack Johnson.
Set against the backdrop of early 20th-century America, the film is both a harsh portrayal of racial oppression and a personal exploration of the effects of fame. With its critique of systemic racism, The Great White Hope offers a powerful examination of the limits of resistance and the price of success in a world that refuses to accept Black excellence.

The ‘90s family movie classic The Sandlot starred a bunch of kid actors, James Earl Jones, and, of course, two dudes in a massive dog costume. Also in the cast was comedian Denis Leary, who played Smalls’ stepdad Bill. In a surprise twist, he turned out to not be an asshole.
The Sandlot, which came out in 1993, was Leary’s first real movie role. Later that same year, he would show up in Demolition Man as the guerrilla rebel soldier whose complaints about fascist dystopias wouldn’t seem out of place in an ‘80s comedy club.
But despite the fact that he clearly wasn’t a seasoned actor at that point in his career, Leary still had some big demands while shooting The Sandlot. At one point in the film, Bill offers to play catch with Smalls, inadvertently giving him a black eye in the process. In 2023, prop master Terry Haskell...

[This story contains spoilers from Severance season two, episode eight, “Sweet Vitriol.”]
Jane Alexander first discovered Severance because of her grandsons. “It’s very popular, I think, with young people,” she hypothesizes over Zoom.
If Alexander is right, then all those young people currently tuning in to Severance‘s season two might be too young to realize the prestige of her appearance in last week’s episode. Here’s a catch-up: Alexander is well-known for movies like 1970’s The Great White Hope (and the play, with James Earl Jones, the year before), 1976’s All the President’s Men, 1979’s Kramer vs. Kramer and 1983’s Testament. She earned Oscar nominations for all of the above, won two Emmys (Playing for Time in 1980 and Warm Springs in 2005), a Tony (for the aforementioned The Great White Hope) and, from 1993 to 1997, led the National Endowment for the Arts.
“The arts have always been for everybody,” Alexander, now 85, tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Athol Fugard, the South African playwright of works including ” ‘Master Harold’…and the Boys,” ”The Road to Mecca,” “Boesman and Lena,” ”A Lesson From Aloes,” died on Saturday. He was 92.
While a cause of death was not disclosed, the South African government confirmed Fugard’s death and said South Africa “has lost one of its greatest literary and theatrical icons, whose work shaped the cultural and social landscape of our nation,” according to AP.
Fugard brought critical, wrenching portrayals of South African society under apartheid to international stages, including Broadway, helping to generate the wave of worldwide criticism that eventually led to the end of that policy in the country, in the process gaining wider access for South African dramaturgy outside that nation. He was also an actor and director, and a number of his works were adapted into films.

"The Big Bang Theory" prides itself on being a show about a bunch of dorks who engage with all sorts of pop culture with a near-religious fervor. Considering they all live in California too, it makes sense that the series would eventually have Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Raj (Kunal Nayyar), Howard (Simon Helberg), and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) make the trek to the geekdom sanctuary that is San Diego Comic-Con, aka Comic-Con International.
Starting out as a relatively small gathering of comic book geeks, Comic-Con International has grown exponentially to become a global phenomenon. It's now one of the premiere locations for highly anticipated developments in the world of movies, television, and, well, comic books. There are panels, vendors, cosplayers, and bizarre corporate branding as far as the eye can see. You can practically envision the main characters from "The Big Bang Theory" causing chaos on the convention floor.

Hollywood icon John Lithgow opens up about how he landed the role of Star Wars' Yoda more than forty years ago.
Speaking to Collider, Lithgow laid out the story of how he ended up portraying the voice of Yoda for 1983's Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back radio drama. Lithgow recalled being directed on Broadway in by John Madden, who was also directing the second entry in the Star Wars radio drama. "He had Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels and Mark Hamill," Lithgow said, "But Frank Oz had chosen not to play Yoda because he was very doctrinaire about only using his voice when he used a puppet—not unlike Dave Crealy, I might add."
That's how I got the role of Yoda in the radio production.
"So John was pissing and moaning over lunch one day during a rehearsal break that he couldn't find a Yoda, and I said,...

There is no character more relevant to Star Wars than Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen). He is at the center of the story, from his rise as a young Jedi in the Prequel Trilogy, to his role as the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader (James Earl Jones) in the Original Trilogy. Even the Sequel Trilogy is all about his legacy both as a hero and a villain. What most people don't get about him, however, is that his life is exceptional in every way, including how precocious he was in everything. The timeline of his life is fascinating to look at, especially when we compare it to the ones of regular individuals like us, because, from that perspective, there was never any other possible outcome for him other than his tragic fate.

The 2025 Oscars ignited controversy for leaving out actors such as Michelle Trachtenberg, Tony Todd and Olivia Hussey. “Beverly Hills, 90210” star Shannen Doherty was also omitted, which her co-star Jennie Garth called “messed up” when asked by TMZ to give her thoughts on the snub (via People). Garth added that “maybe” the Academy should apologize to Doherty’s family for the exclusion.
Garth and Doherty became teen icons together as stars of “Beverly Hills, 90210.” They were both series regulars for four seasons. Doherty exited the series before Season 5. Garth continued for all 10 seasons. They later reunited as their characters, Kelly Taylor and Brenda Walsh, for appearances on The CW’s “90210” reboot.
Doherty died in July 2024 after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. In June 2023, she said she had been receiving radiation for cancer that had spread to her brain. She became a popular podcast host in the years...

One of the hottest names in horror movies is making a pitch for a Star Wars project any fan would love to see!
Star Wars has, to put it mildly, had its ups and downs since Disney bought it in 2012. They’ve had massive success with the sequel movies, Rogue One, and some TV shows, but there's also been criticism for the franchise’s direction.
Adding fuel to the fire is the possible exit for Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy. There are plans for more movies, both stand-alone and a new trilogy focusing on Rey yet some feel Disney could use a fresh approach to the franchise.
Enter Osgood Perkins. The former child actor has become one of the most notable writer/directors in the horror genre. After a few minor films, he broke out with 2024’s Longlegs, a bizarre thriller with Nicolas Cage in a scene-stealing role as a twisted killer.

Turns out you don’t have to be Irish to be lucky come March. That’s right, repertory cinemas from coast to coast will be raining down four-leaf clovers in the form of cinematic gems like “Matewan,” “The Watermelon Woman,” “The Cable Guy,” and many more. And we know what you’re thinking…you just got through slamming back Oscar film after Oscar film, maybe it’s time to take a little break from the movies. After all, spring’s around the corner — it might be nice to step outside for a bit, breathe in the fresh air.
Well, you’re wrong.
Fresh air is for people who can’t appreciate a random assortment of food scents and possibly carbon dioxide from a leaking soda machine tank. You’re of a different breed and as such, we know there’s no better place for you than the comfy cozy darkness of your local cinema.

The 2025 Oscars delivered several memorable moments as one of the biggest nights of Hollywood. However, despite the massive award ceremony, the Academy failed significantly when it came to the ‘In Memoriam,’ which excluded several notable late actors, including Bernard Hill, who passed away nearly a year ago.

Hill made a lasting impact as an integral part of three Best Picture Oscar-winning movies. However, despite an illustrious career and contributions to some of cinema’s most celebrated films, his absence from the tribute has been a glaring omission.

Linda Lavin, the Broadway, TV and film star who died in December, will be honored by Broadway’s Shubert Organization with the traditional dimming of lights at the venue where Lavin gave her Tony-winning performance in 1986’s Broadway Bound.
The lights of the Broadhurst Theatre will dim on Tuesday, March 11 at 6:45 pm/Et in Lavin’s honor.
Perhaps best known for her long-running, nine-season role as Alice Hyatt on TV’s Alice, Lavin had a robust stage career, beginning with A Family Affair in 1962 and continuing to Our Mother’s Brief Affair in 2016. In all, she appeared in 17 Broadway productions, with some of her most notable performances being in It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman, the 1966 musical that showcased Lavin’s showstopping performance of the song “You’ve Got Possibilities”; Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound (1986); Wendy Wasserstein’s The Sister Rosensweig (1993); and Nicky Silver’s The Lyons (2012).

The 2025 Academy Awards ceremony went pretty much without a hitch. No one was slapped, no one received the wrong award, and no one embarrassed themselves. However, the event still managed to court controversy online thanks to the stars omitted from the event’s In Memoriam, including Michelle Trachtenberg, Bernard Hill, and Shannen Doherty.
The Academy has gone to great lengths in recent years to not only recognize the stars we see on screen and behind the camera, but also those who make it possible for movies to make it to screens. From writers and editors, to choreographers and publicists, the list of those who passed away in the last year is often a long one, but in trying to cover all the bases, the Academy often leaves themselves open to criticism for missing out some big stars from the emotional segment.
