If you can’t join ‘em, spoof ‘em.
That’s what David Zucker has made a career out of, and it’s what he is still doing with new instructional-video web series, MasterCrash, a play on MasterClass. In the first episode of MasterCrash, coming out in July, Zucker (Airplane! The Naked Gun! movies) will teach viewers his 15 rules of writing parody. The writer/director’s motivation isn’t (solely) money or fame, nor is it really about teaching a new generation of comedy writers. It is, to some degree at least, about revenge.
“My manager, about three years ago, tried to enter me in MasterClass,” Zucker told The Hollywood Reporter. He was rejected. (MasterClass did not respond to requests for comment.)
Zucker is used to rejection these days. His script with Pat Proft (Hot Shots!) for Naked Gun 4!, which they titled Naked: Impossible!, was passed over in favor of giving Akiva Schaffer (Saturday Night Live,...

CNN Films announced today it is producing an “authorized yet unfiltered documentary” of comedian Chevy Chase named for one of his most famous “Saturday Night Live” catch phrases, “I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not.”
Marina Zenovich, a two-time Emmy winner for “Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired” as well as films like “Lance” and “Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind,” is directing the biographical doc about Chase, and CNN plans to release the film in 2026. Specific details about the film’s release weren’t announced, but it’s expected the film will be available on CNN platforms and later on HBO Max.
“I understand CNN is going to release a documentary about me. I’m delighted and I hope I’m in it,” Chase said in a statement.

Exclusive: Documentaries like Blackfish, The Hunting Ground, Rbg, Three Identical Strangers and Oscar-winner Navalny put CNN Films on the map.
It was a map that Amy Entelis, EVP, Talent, CNN Originals and Creative Development had started in 2012 with the launch of the division.
However, a pandemic, corporate changes imposed by parent company Warner Bros. Discovery and a changing documentary market led to “somewhat of a hiatus” over the last few years, according to Entelis, who has been with the business for 13 years.
But the unit is hoping to roar back to life with two projects – a Chevy Chase documentary from Marina Zenovich and a cancer documentary from Janet Tobias – signaling a “new phase”.
Its return follows the appointment of former BBC Director General Mark Thompson as CEO and Chairman of CNN in August 2023 and three high-profile acquisitions including Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story involving some of its corporate siblings.

Okay, so it wasn’t John Belushi slicing open Buck Henry’s scalp during a Samurai sketch. But James Austin Johnson did suffer a mishap during Saturday Night Live last weekend that left him hobbling around the stage on crutches during the goodnight segment.
The injury occurred during a sketch called The Second Amendment — ironically, a scene that made no physical demands on Johnson whatsoever. Jaj played a Founding Father who spent the bit pontificating about proposed Constitutional amendments. He’s standing behind a table and doesn’t move off that spot for the entire sketch.
With no pratfalls on his comedy agenda, how did he get hurt? Johnson told fans outside of 30 Rock what happened during the show, according to LateNighter. Apparently, the comic slipped in the heels he had been wearing, injuring his foot. One unanswered question: Why was Founding Father James Madison wearing heels?

Six seasons and a movie is all us Community fans have been asking for and wanting. We've got the six seasons, though we're still eagerly waiting for the reunion film that's sure to be a hit at Peacock. Since September 2022 when news was confirmed that the Community movie was happening, we've been wondering not just when it'll be released, but when filming would actually start. Now with one of the star's current shows getting picked up, this could be bad news for the project.
Joel McHale who played Jeff Winger currently stars in the comedy series Animal Control on Fox. The third season finished airing recently, and the show has now been picked up and renewed for a season 4, per TVLine. This of course makes us happy for the actor. We love to see them all succeed! But, the renewal news does have us thinking about Community: The Movie and McHale's upcoming availability.

Not many popular songs have been written about cast members of Three Amigos — with the possible exception of Paul Simon’s “You Can Call Me Al,” which, judging from the music video, was all about hanging out with Chevy Chase in a windowless, purgatorial room.
But pop star and talk show host Kelly Clarkson just dropped a new track that was reportedly inspired by comedy legend Martin Short. Which is no small feat considering how few words there are in the English language that rhyme with “Jiminy.”
At first listen, the song, “Where Have You Been,” may not seem like it has any connection to Short whatsoever. It’s a pretty straightforward romantic ballad, containing sentimental lyrics like “Where have you been? What took so long?” and “Nothing could keep my eyes from driftin’ over to you,” but there are zero references to Clifford, and absolutely no Steve Martin put-downs.

In the early- to mid-1970s, a number of prominent filmmakers found modest success with star-studded whodunnits. In 1972, Joseph L. Mankiewicz directed Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine in a splendid adaptation of Anthony Shaffer's intricately plotted play "Sleuth." A year later, Herbert Ross directed the wickedly clever "The Last of Sheila," a mystery concocted by Anthony Perkins and Stephen Sondheim, and featuring such marquee names as James Coburn, Dyan Cannon, Richard Benjamin, Raquel Welch, and James Mason. Then in 1974, moviegoers got a double dose of Agatha Christie with Sidney Lumet's "Murder on the Orient Express", and Peter Collinson's "And Then There Were None".
There was no cultural development driving this sudden spate of whodunnits; it was just a reminder that people love to watch a bunch of great actors get thrown into the same location where foul play has been committed, and then try to work out...

After Christie Brinkley’s big splash as the alluring Girl in the Ferrari in National Lampoon’s Vacation, producers were eager to have her back for the follow-up Christmas Vacation. But Brinkley turned them down, thanks to the “only bad advice I ever got from my dad,” Brinkley writes in her new memoir, Uptown Girl. “He was worried I’d be typecast as the ingenue.”
But when Brinkley got a new offer to appear in the next follow-up, Vegas Vacation, she wasn’t going to take Pop’s advice again. “I said yes,” she explains, “on the condition that I have a speaking role. This led them to write a neat little part for me as a slick and sexy card counter in the casinos.”
Mother Nature, as it turns out, had other plans.
Their initial scene went as scheduled, with Brinkley in her flashy Ferrari picking up her highway flirtation with Chevy Chase.

Good news for cinephiles: Film archivists have been hard at work restoring a famous director’s original vision for a movie that many of us thought had been lost forever. No, it’s not Orson Welles’ The Magnificent Ambersons, or Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, or even the version of Batman Forever where Bruce Wayne stares down a giant bat puppet. We’re talking about the 1998 Norm Macdonald vehicle Dirty Work.
Directed by Bob Saget, Dirty Work tells the story of two buddies/secret brothers who start a “revenge for hire” business in order to pay for their dad’s heart surgery. The movie, as it was released, was still pretty crude. Like, it literally opens with a kid pranking a child molester with Krazy Glue.
And then there’s this scene, presented without comment:
But the original cut of the film was far more vulgar. The studio insisted on...

Late-night TV is no easy gig, and no one knew that better than Johnny Carson. The Tonight Show host once dished out some tough love to a failed late-night TV host.
Carson didn't have to worry much about competition during the 30 years he hosted The Tonight Show. And if someone did try to launch their own show, they got iced out by Carson (like Joan Rivers).
But Carson's success encouraged more networks to try their hand at late-night TV. Everyone from Jay Leno to Jimmy Kimmel owes what they do to Carson. Even the hosts that failed got their opportunity because of the trail blazed by Carson.
One of those failed late-night TV hosts was Chevy Chase. Fox gave the Saturday Night Live legend his own show in 1993, but canned him after just six weeks on the air. Poor ratings and harsh reviews made The Chevy Chase Show a disaster...

“Saturday Night Live” is closing out its historic 50th season with one of the buzziest names in television and a longtime favorite. Walton Goggins and Scarlett Johansson have been tapped to host the final pair of episodes for this season of the NBC comedy, which will return in May.
Goggins, who has swept the spring TV season for his roles in “The White Lotus” and “The Righteous Gemstones,” will host for the first time on May 10. He will be joined by longtime “SNL” favorite Arcade Fire, marking the Grammy-winning band’s sixth performance. This appearance comes timed to their new album “Pink Elephant,” which will be released on May 9.
Season 50’s finale will then be hosted by Johansson on May 17, marking her seventh time hosting. The only other person who has hosted seven times is Christopher Walken — though Buck Henry, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Tom Hanks, John Goodman and Alec Baldwin...

There are many actors who come from humble beginnings (though less so these days) and remember a time when it was a struggle to pay the bills. And Thunderbolts* star Sebastian Stan is no exception. The Academy Award-nominated actor is sitting comfortably now thanks to numerous projects that have established him as one of the best actors of his generation, but before he arrived in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Stan was barely getting by. However, it was residuals from a largely forgotten 2010 comedy that helped him keep the lights on before he was cast in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Speaking with Vanity Fair, Stan reveals that he was in a rough spot acting-wise before he was cast in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger as Bucky Barnes. It was a role that changed the trajectory of his career, but it was the residuals from the 2010 comedy film Hot Tub Time Machine...

Sebastian Stan is one of the most in-demand and most-respected actors in Hollywood. It certainly wasn’t always that way — not before Marvel came calling.
Stan told Vanity Fair he was “struggling with work” before being cast as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier for 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger.
“I had just gotten off the phone with my business manager, who told me I was saved by $65,000 that came in residuals from Hot Tub Time Machine,” Stan recalled.
Thank goodness for the role of Blaine the ski-patrol bully. (Stan had also done 11 episodes of Gossip Girl by then.)
Hot Tub Time Machine starred John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke as a group of guys who accidentally time-travel back to 1986 using a hot tub and must find a way to return to 2010. The supporting cast included Crispin Glover, Lizzy Caplan and Chevy Chase; Glover of Back to the Future fame,...

Get ready to ascend the heights, because HBO and Max have released the first teaser trailer for Mountainhead, the upcoming dark comedy film from Succession creator Jesse Armstrong. The film depicts a quartet of extremely wealthy tech gurus who get sucked into the middle of a global crisis. The project stars four high-profile actors that make up the egotistical group:Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Ramy Youssef, and Cory Michael Smith.
The trailer depicts the four friends arriving at a massive ski lodge for a weekend getaway; the group has nearly $400 billion between them, so taking some time for the slopes isn't that unusual. In what appears to be a microcosm of current events, something happens when the global economy starts to shift. "Are you guys getting this? Panic buying and violence?" asks Jeff (Youssef). But the others don't seem to be too concerned. "I think that's why I'm so excited about these atrocities.

Succession might be over, but the creator of the show isn’t done taking aim at the rich. Writer/director Jesse Armstrong has brought together an impressive quartet of actors — Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Ramy Youssef, and Corey Michael Smith — for Mountainhead, an HBO original movie that will come out just in time to qualify for this year’s Emmys race.
In the film, the four men mentioned above play tech moguls whose companies, surely, will bear at least a slight resemblance to some of the real-life corporations which dominate Silicon Valley and beyond. Gathering together for a snowy mountain getaway, said getaway gets disrupted by civil rest on the news — civil rest that at least one of their companies might be directly responsible for. According to the tagline: “Four friends. $371 billion net worth. Zero culpability.”

It’s the Inverse Law of Entertainment: All musicians want to be comedians, and all comedians want to be musicians. Most comics aren’t blessed with musical talent, but some still get a taste by appearing in the videos of their favorite artists. Saturday Night Live cast members, probably thanks to their musical heroes guesting on the show, get more chances than most.

I didn’t arrive late to the climate change party — in fact, I was invited by Don Henley himself. In the late ’80s, my husband, Chevy Chase, and I were gifted a book from Don: The End of Nature, by Bill McKibben. That book cracked something wide open in me.
Chevy and I met in 1980, and I was already activated. By 1983, somewhat buried articles about how much energy we use and how much we throw away here in the U.S. made me feel I had to do something.
I felt compelled to educate myself and do whatever I could to share what I learned. I gravitated toward like-minded moms in Pacific Palisades and we began building what became The Center for Environmental Education. Dr. Tom Lovejoy — the man who literally coined the term “biodiversity” — and Denis Hayes, the founder of Earth Day, are just two of the several dedicated...

Exclusive: Christopher Lowell (Promising Young Woman), Jeanine Mason (Upload), and Wallace Shawn (The Princess Bride) have wrapped on the Colorado production of The Man Who Changed the World, a drama spanning generations that’s inspired by the story of visionary entrepreneur Lawrence “Bud” Stoecker.
In the film directed by Greg Pritikin (The Last Laugh), Lowell and Mason play a young couple navigating the trials of marriage, parenthood, and personal legacy. Shawn co-stars as legendary futurist and systems theorist Buckminster Fuller, the architect of the geodesic dome, whose philosophies echo through the picture. The story spans the 1940s, 1960s, and present day, with Illeana Douglas (Goodfellas), Fred Stoller (Everybody Loves Raymond), Ted Lange (The Love Boat), and Matt Wood (Saturday Night) rounding out the cast.

Just when it seemed like the “Morgan Wallen left 15 seconds early” story would be the weirdest, refuse-to-die Saturday Night Live controversy of the year, “Aimee Lou Wood’s teeth” sauntered up to the bar and said, “Hold my beer.”
Getting you up to speed in case you missed it: SNL poked fun at the extended Trump family in an HBO parody called The White Potus. Most of the gags were aimed at political figures, but the character of Chelsea, played by Aimee Lou Wood, was turned into a dental joke. Sarah Sherman popped in some enormous fake chompers to imitate Wood’s toothy smile, a bit that inspired Wood to call out SNL on social media for “mean” humor. Within hours, Wood reported that a) she’d received a lot of online support and b) “I’ve received apologies from SNL.”

Saturday Night Live is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. As part of the celebrations, which included a star-studded special episode last month, the series is crossing the pond for a new UK version. First airing in 1975, the live sketch comedy series has been a staple of American TV for 50 years. Some other countries have already joined in on the fun, with Japan launching its own version in 2012, and Canada hosting its own version from 2014-2015. Now, it's the UK's turn.
According to Deadline, a UK version of Saturday Night Live is officially in the works. The series was initially teased three years ago, with Sky developing the UK version. Now, Saturday Night Live UK has been given the green light. The new version is slated to debut in 2026, although a more precise release date has not yet been revealed. Lorne Michales, who created the series back in 1975, is executive producing the new version.

Six seasons and a movie may not be enough for Community fans or Joel McHale!
When it comes to cult comedies, Community is in a class all by itself. Premiering on NBC in 2009, the Dan Harmon-created comedy at first looked like a simple sitcom premise. Jeff (Joel McHale) is a lawyer who loses his job when it's discovered his degree doesn't count. He thus enrolls in Greendale Community College to earn a real degree.
Joel forms a study group of quirky students, played by Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Chevy Chase, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, and Donald Glover. Ken Jeong and Jim Rash also star.
While the show had humor from the start, it would soon evolve into one of the wilder comedies on television. Every character was made into an offbeat individual, with episodes playing as mockumentaries, parodies/homages to famous movies and TV shows, and unpredictable stories...

Community fans keep waiting for the beloved sitcom to honor its "six seasons and a movie" promise as the long-gestating film adaptation remains on standby. However, when the film finally makes its Peacock debut, Joel McHale says he and his cast mates are "game" for continuing the franchise.
Speaking with Screen Rant, McHale teased the possibility of the Community series making a comeback once the anticipated movie is released. "I think there are some of us that would love to keep going, and I would be like, 'Great, if you guys want to do episodes, let us know,'" he said. "I think that'll probably depend on the success of a movie, but I think if there's enough of a demand to do more. I don't know what it would look like, but obviously the movie would have to inform a lot of that."

Patty Maloney, the 3-foot-11 actress who played the alien Honk on the Sid & Marty Krofft family show Far Out Space Nuts and Chewbacca’s son, Lumpy, on the long-lamented Star Wars Holiday Special, has died. She was 89.
Maloney had suffered several strokes over the years and died Monday in hospice care in Winter Park, Florida, her brother, Dave Myrabo, told The Hollywood Reporter. “For a little person growing up in a big world, she did everything she wanted to do,” he said.
Maloney did lots of work alongside the 3-foot-10 Billy Barty. The two appeared together in the Wizard of Oz feature Under the Rainbow (1981), starring Chevy Chase, and on episodes of Little House on the Prairie, Charlie’s Angels, The Love Boat, Trapper John, M.D. and more.
Far Out Space Nuts, starring Bob Denver and Chuck McCann as bumbling maintenance workers turned accidental space travelers, aired for one season (1975-76) on CBS.

It wasn’t hard to guess how the recent Saturday Night Live starring Mikey Madison would kick off last weekend. Surprise, surprise — the cold-open sketch skewered the week’s hottest political story, with Andrew Dismukes as Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth unintentionally entering the group chat of a group of teenage girls.
Just another meh sketch in a long run of meh cold opens over the past, well, decade or so. Somewhere during the show’s run — was it Will Ferrell’s George Bush impression? Tina Fey as Sarah Palin? — Lorne Michaels decided that America demanded SNL’s political take to open every show. “A high-energy cold open is important to (Michaels), and he often has the writers start from scratch on Friday or even Saturday,” according to Lorne: The Man Who Invented Saturday Night Live. “The idea is, if you begin the show with a home run, then momentum...

Was Robert De Niro’s famous “Are you talkin’ to me?” line from Taxi Driver improvised?(Photo Credit –Facebook)
It was during the gritty, neon-lit haze of 1976, when Martin Scorsese dropped a film that would etch itself into cinematic history for decades to come. His cinematic masterpiece ‘Taxi Driver’ provided a glimpse of a dark, feverish descent into urban alienation, and introduced audiences to Travis Bickle, an ex-marine and Vietnam veteran, working as a taxi-driving insomniac whose paranoia and disdain for the city’s decay simmered into something unforgettable.
And, of course, no moment in the film resonates quite like that scene – the mirror, the gun, and the line that would cement itself in pop culture forever, “Are you talkin’ to me?”
The iconic line wasn’t just another scripted monologue. In fact it was pure, unfiltered Robert De Niro and furthermore, it was improvised, raw, and eerily perfect, that...

Did Margot Robbie really believe in Babylon?(Photo Credit –Facebook)
When Babylon premiered in cinemas in 2022, excitement was at its cliff. Led by La La Land director Damien Chazelle, it features Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt. So, eventually, it seemed poised to smash. But instead of conquering the box office, Babylon struggled to enchant its audiences.
Critics were split, and ticket sales fell short. The film, packed with old Hollywood excess and frenzied storytelling, left many overwhelmed. Despite a star-studded cast and a humongous budget, Babylon grossed just $16 million in the U.S. and $64 million worldwide—far below expectations (via The Numbers).
Margot Robbie, however, hasn’t lost her devotion. She considers the movie may have a future comeback, comparing it to The Shawshank Redemption. It’s a movie that flunked on release but later evolved into a classic. Could Babylon follow the same path?

Did Stephen King find another hidden horror gem?(Photo Credit –Wikimedia)
Stephen King, the undisputed maestro of horror, has once again pointed his eerie flashlight toward a hidden gem – a film that, despite its chilling brilliance, managed to slip through the cracks. If you are a horror movie buff, it’s no secret by now that when the man behind Carrie, It, and Gerald’s Game speaks, fans listen to him and this time, he’s urging them to seek out The Clovehitch Killer.
A Chilling Story Rooted in Reality
A film not for the faint-hearted, critics agree that it’s the kind of horror that gets under the skin, creeping in through eerie silences rather than blood-soaked carnage. Duncan Skiles directed this 2018 film, which is a chilling story inspired by the real-life terror of Dennis Rader, the Btk Killer.

What Did Reese Witherspoon Say About The Infamous Time 2015 Article?(Photo Credit –Instagram)
Reese Witherspoon might be Hollywood’s most distinguished lady, but even she has faced moments that left her dazed. One of them? A 2015 Time Magazine article that, instead of celebrating her and other female entrepreneurs, made them the punchline of a bad joke.
On the We Are Supported By podcast (via ABC News), Witherspoon opened up about the experience, revealing how the article painted her and fellow stars-turned-businesswomen—Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, and Blake Lively—as nothing more than homemakers in ballgowns.
“We were in ballgowns and they stuck our heads on, and Jessica was holding an iron and I was holding a vacuum cleaner,” Reese Witherspoon said. “The whole thing was so offensive that I burst into tears. Time later apologized, but the damage was done.

Did You Know Denzel Washington’s Biggest Paycheck Came From A Movie That Flopped?(Photo Credit –Facebook)
When you think of Denzel Washington, you picture master renditions. From Training Day to The Equalizer, he delivered intensity like no other. You’d expect his biggest paycheck to come from a box-office smash, right? Turns out it didn’t. In 2021, Washington pocketed a staggering $40 million for a thriller that barely made a dent at the box office. The film? The Little Things.
It had all the makings of a hit. But it landed with a thud. Yet, Washington walked away with a career-high payday. How? It all came down to timing, agreements, and a game-changing studio judgment.
The pandemic shook up Hollywood. Studios scrambled to find new ways to release films as theaters struggled. Warner Bros. made a gutsy shift: All 2021 releases would drop simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max.

Chris Columbus Awkward Meeting(Photo Credit –Instagram)
When it comes to Christmas flicks, Home Alone is a chef-d’oeuvre. Watching Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) outmaneuver the bumbling Wet Bandits is a holiday tradition. But what if this beloved film nearly never happened?
Believe it or not, Home Alone exists because of an awkward, borderline bizarre meeting. One that had nothing to do with Kevin, burglars, or booby traps—but everything to do with Chevy Chase.
Back in the late 1980s, director Chris Columbus was in a rut. He needed a hit, and fast. Enter John Hughes, the legendary filmmaker behind Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and The Breakfast Club. Hughes handed Columbus a golden opportunity: directing National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
Columbus was eager to take it on. That zeal, however, didn’t last long. The trouble started when he met the film’s star, Chase. The conversation was anything but smooth.

Beginning in the 1920s and occurring almost annually since 1941, the White House Correspondents Association (the Whca) has held a fundraising dinner that brings together Republicans and Democrats for one evening, and features performers who traditionally lambaste both sides of the aisle. The dinner supports journalists and students, and has generally been the D.C. equivalent of the Met Gala or the Academy Awards. Many great comedians, musicians, and others have performed at the event, including Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Ed Sullivan, Milton Berle, James Cagney, Duke Ellington, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Peter Sellers, Chevy Chase, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, Jon Stewart, Ray Romano, Aretha Franklin, Cedric the Entertainer, Ray Charles, Drew Carey, Seth Meyers, and more. Amber Ruffin was supposed to perform at the April 26 dinner this year. That won't be happening, apparently.

In a career on stage, screen and television that has endured for more than 50 years, writer, actor and comedian Martin Short got his start in a 1972 Canadian production of the stage musical "Godspell" in a cast that included Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Victor Garber, Dave Thomas and Gilda Radner, all of whom would work with Short on subsequent projects in the years to come.
Short's first exposure to American audiences was as a member of the Second City troupe in the sketch show, "Sctv Network 90," which aired on NBC from 1981-83 and earned Short his first Emmy for writing. There he created such signature Short characters as Ed Grimley and Jiminy Glick. Fans of Ghostbusters comedy legend Harold Ramis will be able to stream his last-ever movie next month. The filmmaker's final directorial effort before his death in 2014 was the prehistoric comedy Year One.
Even some of Ramis' biggest fans may have missed Year One since it under-performed in theaters in 2009, and was largely dismissed by critics. Hulu subscribers will get to decide for themselves about whether Year One was wrongfully ignored when it becomes available to stream on April 1, 2025.
Year One Comes to Hulu in April
Jack Black and Michael Cera starred in Ramis' spoof of the biblical Book of Exodus, as two primitives traveling to the sin-filled village of Sodom to save their love interests (June Diane Raphael and Juno Temple). The comedy boasted a hugely impressive cast, including a Superbad reunion for Cera with co-star Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Bill Hader, Olivia Wilde, Paul Rudd and David Cross all featured in Year One too.

As we’ve mentioned before, this year marks the 50th anniversary of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. And while a full-on Python reunion seems highly unlikely, due to tensions within the surviving members of the group, John Cleese has decided to reunite with himself for a Python-themed tour that won’t involve working with others, line memorization or really any prep work at all.
“Not Dead Yet! John Cleese and the Holy Grail at 50 Tour” will reportedly find Cleese visiting 17 cities throughout the U.S., for a show that will include a screening of the classic film, followed by a Q&a. Marty Callner, director of dozens of classic MTV-era music videos as well as numerous comedy specials and creator of HBO’s Hard Knocks, has peacefully passed away at his home in Malibu. He died on March 17 of natural causes and surrounded by loved ones, according to his son, Jazz. He was 78.

Raquel Welch and Saturday Night Live weren’t a match made in comedy heaven. The actress was assigned a “babysitter” to keep her out of Lorne Michaels’ hair when she hosted in 1976, according to Saturday Night: A Backstage History of Saturday Night Live. Welch was attempting to make the transition from 1960s sex symbol to Vegas-style dynamo. What could SNL do with a talent like this?
Welch had ideas, like this bizarro, high-kickin’ musical number. SNL viewers must have felt like they were watching a hybrid of a Donny and Marie variety show and a late-night Skinemax movie.
Of course, SNL writers had their own pitches, mostly centered on her cleavage. Chevy Chase had a brilliant idea — every time Welch was on-screen, he wanted the camera to slowly drift from her face to her breasts. Even funnier (to Chase): No one would tell Welch this was happening, though she...

The White House was terrified of Chevy Chase.
Gerald Ford had just walked an unlikely path to the presidency, first taking over for the disgraced Spiro Agnew and then for Richard “You can’t fire me, I quit!” Nixon. The new leader of the free world had the advantage of simply not being Nixon, but that didn’t last long, thanks to a new comedy show called Saturday Night (so new that it wasn't yet Saturday Night Live).
One of the surprise hit’s first recurring characters was Chase’s unkind imitation of Ford. Though Ford was a real-life college athlete, this cartoon version was a clumsy oaf, falling off ladders and tumbling down stairs. The caricature stuck to Ford like tar, and his team believed the best way to fight back was to prove that they were in on the joke.

Saturday Night Live has been pushing boundaries for nearly five decades, delivering sharp, outrageous, and sometimes questionable humor that leaves audiences laughing, or gasping. From political satire to celebrity impersonations, the show thrives on skirting the edge of controversy.
And while cast members have endured awkward moments, few can claim to have been personally blindsided quite like Scarlett Johansson, thanks to her husband, Colin Jost.

Jost, a master of dry wit and awkward charm, found himself delivering a joke so risqué that it made his wife momentarily consider fainting. But was it really that bad? Considering SNL’s history of eyebrow-raising humor, this was just another day at 30 Rock.

The long-gestating Community movie remains on the backburner as its stars' schedules clash. However, star Joel McHale offers a positive progress report on the upcoming feature-length adaptation of the hit sitcom while hilariously revealing a spoiler.
Speaking on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Dinner's On Me podcast, McHale addressed the status of the Community movie and what's holding up production after the film was announced in 2022. McHale insisted that everyone involved with the film remains committed to making it work, with Dan Harmon's script for the project long completed. However, McHale reiterated that scheduling conflicts remain at the heart of the movie's production delays.
"So that is a, that’s when everyone’s like, is that going to happen? I was like, well, we got the money, which is one of the harder things to do. Yeah. And everyone’s in, so that’s the other. It’s really coming...

In addition to guest hosts, musical acts and forcing cast members to endure anxiety-inducing mind games, one of the longtime hallmarks of Saturday Night Live is its penchant for bringing back recurring characters.
If a character does well in a sketch, you can bet that they’ll be revived in future sketches, and possibly even for movies and/or soulless commercials.
But, according to Lorne: The Man Who Invented Saturday Night Live by Susan Morrison, bringing back characters wasn’t a part of the original vision for the show. John Belushi debuted his stereotypical Samurai character, which even SNL now admits has “aged horribly,” in the seventh episode of the first season. The “Samurai Hotel” sketch also featured Chevy Chase and that week’s guest host Richard Pryor.
But when the sketch was over and done with, no thought was given to bringing the character back for another episode. Which is a little surprising,...

The final two seasons of "Community" were a painful affair, as the beloved comedy series fought valiantly against its own inevitable decline. The show losing its original showrunner, Dan Harmon, after season 3 was the first strike. Harmon returned to "Community" in season 5, but then the show had to deal with the departure of two major cast members, Chevy Chase and Donald Glover. Strike two.
By the end of season 5, there was still some hope that the show might have plenty of years left in it. The departure of Troy and Pierce was handled gracefully, and the quality of the writing itself had returned to pre-season 4 quality. Then "Community" was canceled, and then brought back to viaa little-known streaming service run by Yahoo, and then a whole other round of cast departures was announced. Not only would Buzz Hickey (Jonathan Banks) and Professor Ian Duncan (John Oliver) not be in season...

There’s plenty of competition for the worst Chevy Chase comedy of all time. But why take anyone else’s word for it? According to Chase's own memoir, he knew that a reunion with a former Saturday Night Live cast mate would result in “the worst movie I would ever make.”
The movie in question was Nothing But Trouble, a 1991 comedy so terrible that it gets its own chapter in the book Box Office Poison, an ode to “the film industry’s most miserable failures.” It’s a mess of a movie, a horror-comedy written and directed by Chase’s old pal, Dan Aykroyd. He botched it so badly that no one ever let him behind the camera again.
Aykroyd based his supremely weird script on an incident when he was stopped for speeding in a small town in Upstate New York. He was hauled into court, where an 88-year-old judge gave him a $50 fine.

Over four decades later, veteran actor and Ghostbusters star Bill Murray has addressed the literary treatment of his late friend and collaborator John Belushi by Bob Woodward, calling the latter's work "completely inaccurate." The legendary comedian, actor, and musician Belushi was one of the original Saturday Night Live cast members and died in 1982, aged 33, from an overdose of cocaine and heroin.
Murray aired his opinion of Woodward's 1984 biography Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. "If he did this to Belushi, what he did to Nixon is probably soiled for me too. I can't take it," he said. "You could have two sources and everything like that, but the two sources that he had, if he had them for the Wired book, were so far outside the inner circle that it was criminal, cruel."

Hosting the Oscars has always been the trickiest gig in showbiz. Imagine it: You're obliged to preside over a crowd of professionals who are both nervous that they will lose or that they may win and have to give a heartfelt speech that hits all the write notes and thanks all the right people. Only about 20 percent of them will leave carrying a trophy. The other 80 percent will cart off only disappointment. As the host, it's your job to make them laugh — or at least make them think about something other than the fact this is The Biggest Night of Their Lives when either massive success or utter failure will come calling. Even if you're impossibly charming and hilarious, much of their mind will be someplace else.
You'll be prepping to ace this gig for weeks,...
