Pedro Pascal might be the latest internet obsession, but let’s be real—this man has been making hearts race since the dial-up days. Talk about aging like a fine bottle of red.
And I’m not just talking looks—his career has been a slow burn to full-on icon status. He had a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But for me? He truly leveled up in Game of Thrones.
Oberyn Martell wasn’t just hot—he was dangerously smoking. And don’t even get me started on that death. I’m still emotionally unavailable because of it.

If you were a struggling actor in the U.K. in the early 2010s, odds are you probably auditioned for "Game of Thrones." Set in the epic world created by George R.R. Martin and considered one of the best fantasy shows of all time, the series showcased an expansive roster of widely beloved (and horribly loathsome) characters. That cast included all-time greats of British film and theater, like Sean Bean and Charles Dance, as well as future stars like Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington.
However, as with any popular show, many actors auditioned or were offered parts that never materialized, or perhaps not in the way they had anticipated. From future A-listers who HBO unbelievably rejected to big names the show wasn't able to convince to be a part of the pop culture phenomenon, these are 15 actors who were almost cast on "Game of Thrones," but thankfully, for the actors...

The release date has been revealed for Daniel Day-Lewis' new film, Anemone. Day-Lewis is one of the most celebrated actors of his time. Day-Lewis has since been nominated for five more Oscars, winning two for Lincoln and There Will Be Blood.

After eight years in retirement, Daniel Day-Lewis is returning to acting in Anemone, a collaboration with his son, director Ronan Day-Lewis.
Daniel Day-Lewis is widely considered to be one of the greatest actors of all time, and with three Oscars on his mantle and a filmography for the ages, that opinion isn’t likely to change. Day-Lewis hasn’t appeared in a film since 2017’s Phantom Thread, but with movies like There Will Be Blood, My Beautiful Laundrette and My Left Foot to his name, his place in on the list of all-time greats is assured.
Day-Lewis retired from acting eight years ago, sticking to the maxim of ‘always leave ’em wanting more.’ But now he’s returned to collaborate with his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, on Anemone – a family drama also set to star Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green. The BBC has announced that its crime drama This City is Ours will return for a second season. The decision comes after strong viewer engagement and critical attention, with the show becoming the most-viewed new drama launch on BBC iPlayer this year.
Set in Liverpool, the series is centered around the operations of the Phelan family and their entanglement in a web of drug trafficking, betrayal, and fractured loyalties. It features James Nelson-Joyce as Michael Phelan, a rising figure in a criminal network whose close relationship with gang leader Ronnie, played by Sean Bean, is tested when their control over a key cocaine pipeline begins to fracture. The show’s backdrop includes both urban Liverpool and sun-drenched Marbella, reflecting the cross-border nature of their criminal enterprise.

Before House of the Dragon had us side-eyeing family trees and counting dragon eggs, there was A Song of Ice and Fire—the sprawling, bloody, and brilliantly messy fantasy epic that started it all. Written by George R. R. Martin (a.k.a. the man who made readers fear weddings forever), the book series redefined what modern fantasy could look like. No elves, no chosen ones, just power plays, morally grey characters, and a world where literally no one is safe.
The series kicked off in 1996 with A Game of Thrones and is (still!) ongoing, with five books released so far out of a planned seven. Each one is stuffed with layered political intrigue, brutal wars, dragons, direwolves, and enough backstabbing to make Shakespeare sit up in his grave.
Naturally, the books blew up even more when HBO dropped Game of Thrones in 2011, catapulting stars like Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington,...

Wait what? There are rumors of an Elden Ring movie potentially produced by A24 and directed by Alex Garland. The source that claimed this has already taken down the report, but what could this really mean? Is Hidetaka Miyazaki and our favorite Game of the Year really about to be put to the big screen?
Let’s say that these rumors are real. Let’s assume that we’re really getting a new Elden Ring movie. The biggest question then becomes, who is going to be in the movie’s cast? Well, that would depend on the story and characters that are being planned to be shown. I already know exactly which actors I want to see for this.
Here are my picks for the cast of the Elden Ring movie

Prime Video seemingly censors the opening moments from 2010's Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe.
As noted by TikTok user @theshannonduke0, whose video has subsequently been shared across nearly every corner of social media, the version of 2010's Robin Hood available for streaming on Prime Video has had its opening scrawl completely cut from the film. Ordinarily, the film would feature the words, "In times of tyranny and injustice when law oppresses the people, the outlaw takes his place in history," during its opening moments, yet the Prime Video cut features only a blank, yellowed bit of parchment.

Orlando Bloom, Bryce Dallas Howard and Nick Mohammed star in Deep Cover Credit: Peter Mountain Copyright: Metronome Film Prepare yourself for a fun, clever spin on a popular crime drama! The trailer for a brand new underworld crime movie Deep Cover set in gritty London, but with a serious twist, just dropped. How about this: Rather than seasoned undercover cops, the police turn to improv actors to handle high-stakes sting operations. Their mission? To “yes, and…” their way into the inner-core of a lethal gang. This isn’t your typical tense drama. But if nothing else, just the story setup alone sounds like a lot of suspense and chaotic laughs as these movie stars think on their feet through one unpredictable criminal scenario after the next. Think on-the-spot character work with real-world consequences! And the cast? Absolutely stellar! We’re talking Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, the brilliant Nick Mohammed,...

Yet another revenge thriller motivated by a dead wife, The Amateur at least has in its favour that its source text is 50-years-old. That's significantly newer than the weirdly regressive A Working Man, but where that had Sylvester Stallone and David Ayer moderating, this finds ways to be more sexist, and, if anything, more nihilistic.
The book it's based on is by Robert Littel, he's previously had work adapted for television, but neither Legend (starring Sean Bean as various undercover identities) nor The Company (with an even longer list of recognisable names). Littel's one of the lesser known but much loved figures of spy literature, a genre unto itself. John LeCarre attributed much of his success to being an alternative to Ian Fleming. There's a coldness in Le Carre that's different to that of Bond, and a different coldness again in Littel's work. His first novel, The Defection Of Aj.

Brad Pitt is so Hot, he could make people swing…both ways. No, seriously—if looking good were a superpower, Pitt would be running the MCU by now. He’s not just a pretty face; he’s The face that launched a thousand s*xual awakenings.

By 1995, Empire dubbed him one of the “25 Sexiest Stars in Film History.” That same year, People crowned him “Sexiest Man Alive”… and then did it again in 2000, because, duh.

Some people take improv classes to be better public speakers, others love the community and the unpredictable nature of the performance. In Deep Cover starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed, the comedy format is deployed to infiltrate London's criminal underworld. The film released first-look images last year, but Amazon has just released a trailer for the comedy, which is coming to Prime Video on June 1st.
The film will adhere to the comedy rule of threes, teaming up a trio for the criminal mayhem. Bryce Dallas Howard plays Kat, an improv teacher who fears she may have missed her shot at fame. Orlando Bloom's character is an intense method actor who uses improv as a tool to hone his craft and stay immersed in a role, while Nick Mohammed is the window character and the audience's surrogate into the world of improv as a down-on-his-luck everyman who wants to find his confidence.

Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed try to save the world with improv in the trailer for the action-comedy movie Deep Cover.
Director Tom Kingsley’s feature is set to begin streaming via Amazon Prime Video on June 12. Paddy Considine, Sonoya Mizuno, Ian McShane and Sean Bean round out the cast.
Deep Cover centers on Kat (Howard), an improv teacher recruited by an undercover cop (Bean) to enlist two of her students (Bloom and Mohammed) to impersonate criminals as they try to stop crime in London.
“You were so good,” Bloom assures Mohammed during a tense moment. “You committed. It was inspiring.”
Later, Howard scolds Bloom by saying, “I told you not to escalate.” He replies, “It’s where the scene went.”
Kingsley (Doctor Who) helmed the film from a script credited to Derek Connolly, Colin Trevorrow, Ben Ashenden and Alexander Owen. Trevorrow, Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald serve as producers.

"They're just making this up as they go along!" Are they? Prime Video has unveiled an official trailer for an action comedy movie called Deep Cover, made by Amazon MGM Studios and ready for a streaming release only in June this summer. It's skipping theaters, but will be available on Prime Video across the entire world anyway. Three improv actors are asked to go undercover by the police in London's criminal underworld. The tagline is: "Far too committed to the bit." Deep Cover is an action comedy starring Bryce Dallas Howard as Kat, an improv comedy teacher beginning to question if she's missed her shot at achieving real success. When an undercover cop offers her the role of a lifetime, she recruits two of her improv students to infiltrate London's gangland by impersonating dangerous criminals. This stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, Nick Mohammed, Paddy Considine, Sonoya Mizuno, with Ian McShane and Sean Bean.

Everybody give your very best “yes and” to Prime Video today, as the trailer for Deep Cover has finally arrived. Starring Orlando Bloom (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World franchise), the movie’s plot centers around an improv teacher (Howard) who finds herself leading an infiltration into a criminal organization with the help of two of her students. Featuring supporting performances from Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon), Sean Bean (Game of Thrones), Sonoya Mizuno (Crazy Rich Asians), and Ian McShane (the John Wick franchise), the film looks to be another promising addition to the streamer’s comedy-action lineup.
Howard’s Kat is your average everyday entertainer in the trailer for Deep Cover. She’s taken up a new job as an improv teacher, where she instructs both funny and unfunny people on how to bs their way through scenes in the most comedic way possible.

It's been a while since "Game of Thrones" finished its divisive final season, and even longer since the on-screen deaths of some of the show's most beloved characters. While the HBO franchise has continued with "House of the Dragon," a prequel series exploring the Targaryen dynasty, many of the show's stars have scattered across the worlds of film and TV, and even beyond.
While some "Game of Thrones" alumni have made notable appearances in some of the biggest movies and TV shows of the past few years, others have done a lot less mainstream work in the years since the finale aired. For some, "Game of Thrones" may have just been the start of their careers, whilst others merely added the show to a long and storied filmography. There are even some supporting characters on "Game of Thrones" who had their turns as leading men and women in their most recent projects.

It's not a particularly unpopular opinion to say that "Game of Thrones" didn't have the best ending (though I'll say that some people right here at /Film might disagree with me). The series, which is based on George R.R. Martin's novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire," came to a close after eight seasons in May of 2019 not with a bang, but with a piteous whimper. So, do showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have any regrets? Yes, apparently — but their regrets aren't related to the series finale "The Iron Throne" at all!
In a January 2024 story for The Hollywood Reporter, Benioff and Weiss said they had one major shared regret: that Mord the Jailer, a small character seen in the show's first season who was played by Ciaran Bermingham, never returned. "One thing I know I wish we could have done is there's the character Mord the Jailer,...

A lot of people die on "Game of Thrones." No, really; the Washington Post actually tracked all of the show's deaths and figured out that 6,887 characters, both named and unnamed, perish throughout the HBO series (which is based on George R.R. Martin's equally bloody novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire"). Apparently, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss played favorites just a bit when it came to their 8-season series that massacred heroes and villains in equal measure. In a March 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter to promote their Netflix series "3 Body Problem," Benioff and Weiss said there were two characters they just loved killing: Jack Gleeson's King Joffrey Baratheon and Iwan Rheon's dastardly bastard-turned-heir Ramsay Bolton.

Game of Thrones pulled off a legitimate gaslight job with one of its so-called “fan-favorite” characters. We were all practically told to cheer, clap, and meme the moment even though this character cold-bloodedly murdered two of their own family members in the same damn episode. And somehow, folks, we just rolled with it.
Looking back, it’s crazy how the show dressed it up as a “power move” and not the straight-up family massacre it was. Call it prestige TV magic, but it doesn’t change the fact that we were lowkey manipulated into rooting for someone who clearly crossed a very messed-up line.

There’s something about treasure hunting movies that just hits differently. Maybe it’s the dusty maps, ancient traps, or the characters who clearly have no plan but still survive it all. These movies have it all, booby traps, secret caves, double-crossing sidekicks, and the occasional cursed artifact. Some go full Indiana Jones mode, while others mix in comedy, mystery, or even a little romance, because why not fall in love while dodging death?
The best ones make you feel like you’re right there, sneaking through jungles or deciphering clues on a centuries-old scroll. And let’s not forget the over-the-top villains who always monologue too long. Whether it’s gold, lost cities, or something weirdly glowing in a box, treasure movies serve drama, chaos, and adventure in one messy, glorious ride.
So, grab your (pretend) fedora and scroll through this list of the best treasure-hunting flicks to ever grace our screens.

It is the age-old debate in the fantasy world—who can beat who in a duel, who’s stronger, etc. Perhaps the most popular rivalry today is Game of Thrones’ Jaime Lannister versus The Lord of the Rings’ Aragorn. Both are dashing swordsmen in their own way, and each has a specific skill set that distinguishes them, but at the end of the day, someone has to win.
Of course, Martin believes in the ability of his own creation, and he is very confident the Kingslayer would beat Strider. It would be absurd to fashion a character as the greatest fighter in Westeros and then think he’s going to be defeated by a character from another literature. Even I would support my own hero. But, objectively, can Jaime really beat Aragorn?

Legend has unveiled its packed May 2025 premiere schedule, delivering an ambitious run of science fiction, fantasy, and action classics that stretch across time, space, and genres.
At the top of the pile is James Cameron’s rarely broadcast deep-sea thriller The Abyss, which makes a rare UK television appearance on Sunday 25 May at 9pm. This underwater epic about alien intelligence, nuclear paranoia, and human resilience remains one of Cameron’s most visually arresting and emotionally charged films.
But for those who prefer their sci-fi terrain a little more subterranean than subaquatic, Legend has curated a trio of matinee premieres that mine classic adventure with gusto. Warning: major spoilers for The Last of Us ahead
We always knew this day was coming, and even those who hadn’t played 2020’s The Last of Us Part II might’ve had it spoiled that HBO’s live-action adaptation was bracing for a major character departure in season 2. The first season was led by the dynamic duo of Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal, but moving forward into the rest of season 2 and the recently confirmed season 3, things will never be the same again in the world of The Last of Us.
Although the question of Joel Miller’s (Pascal) death was never in doubt for most fans of the games, it was simply a matter of when showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann would bite the bullet (and Joel would bite the wrong end of a golf club). Just two episodes into season 2 and The Last of Us has...

Bryce Dallas Howard has long been famed for all the star-studded portrayals she has given over the past more than three and a half decades that she has been active as an actress, mostly in the adventure, sci-fi, and thriller genres. After giving praiseworthy performances across numerous different genres, she now seems to be all set to enter the criminal field as well.
According to the latest reports, for her upcoming project, Howard is expected to go undercover in Amazon’s next crime-comedy, Deep Cover. But this, of course, will be nothing short of a new role for her, as Dallas Howard is no Bryan Cranston’s Robert Mazur, the character the respective actor played in his 2016 biographical masterpiece that trekked along similar lines.

“Cowboys die with their boots on. Kings die when they take them off.” — Me, clutching the remote and my dignity. Have you ever gotten hit so hard by a fictional death that you need to pause the show and walk it off like you just stubbed your soul? Yeah. Watching Kevin Costner’s John Dutton get iced outside the Yellowstone ranch — the very land he fought tooth and nail to protect —wasn’t just brutal; it was poetic punishment dressed in betrayal. Game of Thrones became a hugely popular TV series for a lot of reasons: the sex and violence, the huge battle scenes, the complex web of characters, etc. But there were a couple of times in its history when it popped in popularity. The first was at the end of the first season, when Ned Stark (Sean Bean), the purported main character of the series, was executed. The second was at the end of season 3, when Ned's wife Catelyn and son Robb (Michelle Fairley and Richard Madden) were brutally murdered right in the middle of a campaign to get revenge for Ned's death. And the third — and the show rode this wave of notoriety right through to the end of the series — came at the end of season 5, when Jon Snow, the show's last white knight leading man, was stabbed to death by his own men.

Killing off a well-liked character on a television series with a fiercely devoted fan base can obviously be quite perilous, especially when they don't know it's coming. It's a particularly fraught decision in the age of social media, when viewers can vent their fury as the unthinkable and (for some) unacceptable occurs. If you hadn't read George R.R. Martin's "A Game of Thrones," you were almost certainly gobsmacked during the first season when Sean Bean's Ned Stark, the seeming protagonist of the series, was cruelly executed by that twerp Joffrey Lannister. Twitter caught fire that night, with irate newcomers to Martin's saga pledging to never watch another episode. If you had read Martin's novel, you were giddy with anticipation in knowing much, much worse was yet to come.

From Lionsgate TV and showrunner John Glenn, Robin Hood is described as a sweeping, romantic adventure, a modern take of the classic tale that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth, and a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian.

If you're not up to date on "The Last of Us" — and specifically, if you haven't seen "Through the Valley," the second episode of season 2 — stop reading this right now. Massive, major, enormous spoilers lie ahead.
I haven't played "The Last of Us Part II," nor have I played the original game that made this Naughty Dog creation into a sensation. This is all to say that, when it comes to the huge character death that happens in "The Last of Us Part II," I was wholly unprepared to see it play out on screen, because I've never held the lives of Joel, Ellie, or Abby in my hands via controller. When it happened on my TV, I couldn't look away, no matter how desperately I wanted to.
The ordeal goes like this: Abby, a new character in season 2 of HBO's adaptation of "The Last of Us" played by Kaitlyn Dever,...

You wouldn't really include "Dragon Ball" in the same conversation with shows like "Game of Thrones" or "The Walking Dead." After all, the groundbreaking, legendary anime show (whose reputation is only matched by its quality) is very much a show for kids and teens. There are plenty of poop jokes, the villains are ridiculously cartoony, Son Goku is as childish a protagonist as they come, and there's also the fact that most of the character names are silly food puns.
Yet, there is one aspect where "Dragon Ball" not only has a big similarity with "Game of Thrones," it blows it out of the water — main character deaths. Remember when Sean Bean's Ned Stark died and audiences everywhere were shocked? That was basically a weekly occurrence for the 10 years the original "Dragon Ball" and "Dragon Ball Z" aired. Virtually every single member of the main cast died horrible deaths.

The first Lord of the Rings film from Peter Jackson is just one year shy of celebrating the 25th anniversary of when the Fellowship of the Ring was first brought together on-screen. Made up of nine adventurers of varying races and backgrounds, with nine acclaimed actors embodying them, including Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Sean Bean, and more, the group has become one of the most memorable and likable bands of heroes ever to grace theaters, thanks to the camaraderie formed throughout their journey to destroy the One Ring. Filming the trek through Middle-earth, however, was just as much of a connection-building adventure, according to Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan, In an interview with Collider's Mike Zimmerman for their reality series Billy & Dom Eat the World, the pair reflected on their favorite memories from the production, both during filming and behind the scenes.

The streaming movie charts are often full of amusing surprises. Sometimes, films that have been largely ignored for a decade or longer suddenly rocket their way into the top 10. The cause for their resurgence is usually directly attributable to something going on in the world: the movie could feature a newly minted movie star in an early role (either that or possess subject matter that is similar to a film that is raking in the dough at the box office). The death of a major filmmaker or actor is also a big driver of views, as we recently saw with the late, great Gene Hackman.
One of the biggest viewing swings of the 2020s thus far came at the start of the decade when the Covid-19 lockdown inspired millions of frightened, sheltering-in-place streaming subscribers to watch Steven Soderbergh's 2011 pandemic classic "Contagion." It was the right movie at the right...

The Pitt is Max’s latest success story that fans can’t stop talking about. The latest medical drama — which is the first in history for the streamer — debuted in January and garnered acclaim from critics and audiences alike for being the most authentic medical procedural available to watch. The show built up enough of an audience during its 15-episode first-season run that it was able to dethrone The White Lotus atop Max’s streaming charts on more than one occasion. The series was written and created for television by R. Scott Gemmill and stars ER veteran Noah Wyle. During a recent sit-down with CNN, The Pitt producer John Wells spoke about why he thinks the show became such a hit, crediting the smart audience and ability to tell a story that didn’t “spoon-feed” anything to its viewers:
"Audiences are very literate about story and about character, and we...
