Robert De Niro, in Cannes to receive an honorary Palme d’Or during Tuesday night’s glitzy opening ceremony, used his time in the spotlight to defend democracy and take aim at America’s commander in chief.
“In my country, we are fighting like hell for the democracy we once took for granted. That affects all of us here, because art is the crucible that brings people together, like tonight. Art looks for truth. Art embraces diversity. That’s why art is a threat. That’s why we are a threat to autocrats and fascists,” he said to applause inside the Grand Lumiére theater with Leonardo DiCaprio standing over his shoulder after an affecting tribute to DiCaprio’s frequent collaborator and acting icon.
“America’s Philistine president has had himself appointed head of one of our premier cultural institutions [the Kennedy Center]. He has cut funding and support to the arts, humanities and education.

Four decades have passed since Luc Besson found fame as an emerging 26-year-old director with thriller Subway starring Isabelle Adjani and Christopher Lambert.
His feature credits since range from early stylized breakouts The Big Blue and Nikita; to sci-fi hits The Fifth Element and Lucy, and historic dramas The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc and The Lady, at the same time as building film company EuropaCorp and producing blockbuster franchises Taxi and Taken.
As the 40th anniversary of his big screen breakthrough approaches this fall, Besson is rolling out ultra-low budget romance June & John. Fans of Andrzej Żuławski’s 1981 psychological horror movie Possession weren’t exactly thrilled to learn that a remake is on the way from Paramount and Smile filmmaker Parker Finn, but director Razka Robby Ertanto beat the remake to the punch with Possession: Kerasukan.
The loose Indonesian remake of the cult horror film has quietly been available to stream on Netflix for months.
The synopsis reads the same, “Returning from military duty, Faris is shocked to learn that his wife wants a divorce. He decides to investigate and discovers a sinister secret.”
Żuławski’s film recently received a new 4K restoration, “Banned upon release in 1981, Żuławski’s stunningly choreographed nightmare of a marriage unraveling is an experience unlike any other. Professional spy Mark (Sam Neill) returns to his West Berlin home to find his wife Anna (Isabelle Adjani) insistent on a divorce. As Anna’s frenzied behavior becomes ever more alarming,...

Did You Know Robert Pattinson Once Slept With Knives After Watching A Horror Movie? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Robert Pattinson might be Batman on-screen but in real life? He is not so fearless. The British superstar admitted he’s become too sentient of horror flicks. So much so that he once fell asleep clutching knives after watching one. During a chat with Mickey 17 director Bong Joon Ho for GQ, Pattinson revealed that horror films freak him out now.
“I used to watch a lot of dark stuff when I was younger and think ‘yeah, this is cool.’ And now, I’m too sensitive,” the actor said. “It’s strange, you’d think it would go the other way round. As you get older, you become less frightened of these [films]. I can’t watch horror movies anymore.” The fear got real when he had to watch a horror film before meeting a director.

“I can’t exist by myself because I’m afraid of myself, because I’m the maker of my own evil.”
Divorce is hard under the best of circumstances. Though the dissolving marriage may be toxic, you’re still saying goodbye to an envisioned life and a future you now know will never be. This legal breakup often means untangling shared households, identities, and lingering trauma. And it can be especially difficult for children of the relationship.
No horror film explores this particular experience like Andrzej Żuławski’s Possession. Banned for many years in the UK, this distressing film packs a spectrum of powerful emotions into the story of two young parents on the brink of divorce.

French actress Juliette Binoche has been named President of the Jury for the 2025 edition of the Cannes Film Festival in May.
The honor, which was announced on Tuesday morning Paris time, will fall exactly 40 years after the Oscar-winning The English Patient star first touched down at the festival with André Téchiné’s Palme d’Or contender Rendez-vous in 1985.
Binoche follows in the footsteps of U.S. director Greta Gerwig whose jury feted Sean Baker’s Anora with the Palme d’Or last year.
“I’m looking forward to sharing these life experiences with the members of the Jury and the public. In 1985, I walked up the steps for the first time with the enthusiasm and uncertainty of a young actress; I never imagined I’d return 40 years later in the honorary role of President of the Jury. I appreciate the privilege, the responsibility and the absolute need for humility,” said Binoche.

If you're looking for a bloodsucking good time this February, Peacock has you covered...and then some. The streaming service has a plethora of vampire titles hitting its catalog on the first of the month, including the entire Blade and Twilight franchises, as well as a groundbreaking classic, and several underrated gems, all of which land on the streamer on February 1.
Love them or hate them, there's no denying the popularity and cultural impact of Twilight and its four sequels. Starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson and based on the bestselling novels by Stephenie Meyer, the films have collectively grossed over $3 billion worldwide. Critical and audience debate still rages over whether the movies are actually any good, something which star Pattinson is tired of hearing about. Of course, arguably there wouldn't be a Twilight without Interview with the Vampire, the 1994 film directed by Neil Jordan, from a script by original novel author Anne Rice.

Fernanda Torres and Karla Sofía Gascón made history on Thursday as the first pair of Best Actress Oscar nominees for non-English language performances in nearly 50 years. Torres stars in Sony Pictures Classics’ I’m Still Here from Brazil, while Gascón leads in Netflix’s Emilia Pérez from France. This marks the fourth time two actors have been nominated for non-English roles for different movies in the same year. They will compete against Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Mikey Madison (Anora), and Demi Moore (The Substance). Both films are cited for Best International Feature and Best Picture while Emilia Pérez became the most-nominated international movie with 13 mentions.
In the Walter Salles‘ political biopic, Torres portrays Portuguese-speaking human rights activist Eunice Paiva, who searches for her missing husband, politician Rubens Paiva, during the Brazilian Military Dictatorship in 1971. Torres’ only precursor recognition was at the Golden Globes, where she surprised in Best Drama Actress. Despite missing at the Critics Choice,...

Robert Eggers' Nosferatu is a psychosexual nightmare that feeds on the darkest corners of desire, lust, and terror. The gothic horror masterpiece assaults your senses with haunting visuals, eerie sound design, and top-notch performance. Through a truly unrecognizable and transformative performance from Bill Skarsgard as Count Orlok and a career-defining performance from Lily Rose-Depp as the tormented Ellen, Nosferatu is the kind of horror film that gives fans a renewed sense of pride in the genre. Skarsgard fully transforms into the ancient vampire Orlok in an incredibly committed performance, but the show belongs to Depp.

Over a century after Nosferatu’s debut, Robert Eggers resuscitates the classic story. Originally premiering in 1922, F.W. Murnau’s German Expressionist film was an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula that caused an uproar. The Stoker estate demanded that all copies of the film be destroyed, and if it weren’t for one rebel in the production, viewers would have no evidence of the film to this day. Similar to the source material, Nosferatu follows a lawyer who unknowingly starts a chain reaction of destruction. After signing a real estate deal, Count Orlok stalks the human Ellen, with whom he has a connection. Eggers takes a largely simple story and turns it into a psychosexual drama.

Robert Eggers’ long-awaited Nosferatu is not merely a remake of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic, nor is it a straightforward adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It is, instead, a gothic symphony of horror that pays homage to its predecessors while carving its own distinctive path into the annals of vampire lore. With meticulous attention to detail, a palpable sense of dread, and a career-defining performance by Lily-Rose Depp, Eggers delivers a film that is both hauntingly beautiful and deeply unsettling.
Set in early 19th-century Germany, the film follows Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult), an earnest young estate agent tasked with traveling to Transylvania to meet the enigmatic Count Orlok (Skarsgård). Despite warnings from his wife Ellen (Depp), who has been psychically haunted by Orlok since childhood, Thomas ventures into the count’s foreboding domain. It’s a setup familiar to fans of the genre, yet Eggers imbues it with his trademark precision.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Nosferatu.Actor Lily-Rose Depp has impressed audiences with her jaw-dropping performance in director Robert Eggers’s horror film Nosferatu, and a 43-year-old movie is partly to thank for it. In the movie, Depp portrays a woman who falls under the psychic influence of the evil vampire Count Orlok. The demonic episodes she experiences as she falls under the undead plague carrier’s spell make for some of the most shocking scenes in Nosferatu.
As a remake of the 1922 film of the same name, Robert Eggers’s Nosferatu mainly draws inspiration from it and Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula, which inspired the original movie. However, there is a more obscure horror film from 1981 that inspired the 2024 version of Nosferatu, specifically Depp’s portrayal of protagonist Ellen Hutter. Netflix's The Perfect Couple cast is jam-packed with A-list actors who help shape the Nantucket-based murder mystery. The miniseries is an onscreen adaptation of the eponymous book by New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand. The Perfect Couple centers on the wedding of Amelia Sachs and Benji Winbury at the Winbury estate in Nantucket. The night before the event, a murder occurs, raising suspicions about the entire Winbury family.
Murder mystery shows often focus on rich and privileged characters with morally questionable personalities. It is all the more riveting when these shows include an all-star cast. That is certainly the case with The Perfect Couple. Even the actors who don't have name recognition have dozens of credits under their belt, except for a few younger actors. The impressive cast in The Perfect Couple helps create a story filled with morally dubious characters pursuing their own self-interests at any cost.

F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent horror film "Nosferatu" is a "Dracula" adaptation, but it uses none of the character names from Bram Stoker's original novel. In "Nosferatu," actor Max Shreck's central vampire villain is named Orlok, not Dracula. The changes from "Dracula" to "Nosferatu" are commonly attributed to how the film played it loose with copyright laws. (Stoker's widow Florence Balcombe did not give permission to the filmmakers of "Nosferatu" to adapt from her husband's estate and was furious when she learned of the film.)
This has left "Nosferatu" something of a tangled legacy as a "Dracula" adaptation. It can be remade in its own right rather than later "Nosferatu" films being just more "Dracula" flicks.
When Werner Herzog remade "Nosferatu" in 1979, he split the difference. He titled his film as "Nosferatu the Vampyre," but his characters had Stoker's names: Klaus Kinski was Count Dracula, Bruno Ganz was Jonathan Harker,...

This article contains some spoilers for "Nosferatu."
For the most part, a trend that emerges during any particular year of cinema doesn't have anything genuinely competitive about it. Sure, there may be the "Dante's Peak" and "Volcano," "Deep Impact" and "Armageddon" years, where highly similar projects are developed to compete with each other, but most trends that occur are less about an intentional duel and are more an indication of where the culture's head is at. Remember 2017, when a John Denver song turned up in no less than five separate movies? While there's no one catch-all explanation for such a thing happening, it's intriguing and potentially illuminating to identify the trend and see what, if anything, it speaks to in the contemporary real world.

Horror is my favorite genre, but for the most part, it doesn't scare me. I'm not boasting about how brave I am (trust me; lots of stuff scares me — I have a panic attack anytime I have to get on an airplane), but merely stating that I've spent so much time with the horror genre that I've grown desensitized to it. I still love and appreciate horror movies, but very rarely do they actually make me afraid. So when I see a horror movie that manages to get to me on a raw, primordial, emotional level, I'm impressed. And Robert Eggers' "Nosferatu," a new take on both "Dracula" and F. W. Murnau's silent movie classic, seemingly achieves the impossible: it's scary!

True horror fans will want to watch the original 1922 German horror film Nosferatubefore seeing Robert Eggers' new interpretation that releases on Christmas day. And luckily for those die-hard horror buffs, the original version of Count Orlock's story is streaming for free on YouTube, Tubi, Vudu, Hoopla, Freevee, and more. The unofficial adaptation of Irish author Bram Stoker's 1897 Gothic horror novel is definitely worth the watch and is well-renowned for being one of the first, most terrifying horror films to come out in the first couple of decades of cinema history. While Count Orlock is not exactly like Dracula, the two are synonymous in their iconic representation of the blood-sucking vampire.

1922, 1979, and now 2024. The movie that was a legally distinct, non-copyright infringing version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula has had an impact for over 100 years now. The 1922 version is the one that most people think of not only when the name Nosferatu is said, but when people discuss silent horror films in general. At the other end of the spectrum, we have one of the year’s most hotly anticipated horror films with Robert Eggers releasing only his 4th film on Christmas day that will be his own very unique take on the property. Lost in that shuffle is the 1979 version from famed German director Werner Herzog with his best friend/muse/psychopath actor Klaus Kinski. It isn’t talked about nearly as much and is unique and different enough from the first film that it deserves its own revisit.

We’re less than two weeks away from finally getting to see Robert Eggers' Nosferatu on the big screen, and to say we’re sitting on pins and needles would be an understatement. Thus far, the vampire flick has been earning high praise all around, and is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 93%. Called the "horror movie of the year" by director Fede Álvarez, many are highlighting the amazing performance of Lily-Rose Depp, who, as it turns out, took inspiration from a cult-classic 1981 thriller.

Lily-Rose Depp is emulating another Ellen Hutter (and another French starlet) for her breakout turn in Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu”: Isabelle Adjani. In a recent interview, Depp told IndieWire that, while Adjani’s portrayal of Ellen Hutter in Werner Herzog’s 1979 feature “Nosferatu the Vampyre” no doubt was a touchstone for her own take on the fictional character, it was Adjani’s “Possession” performance that directly inspired Depp’s standout role.
“I thought a lot about ‘Possession,’ of course,” Depp said. “Isabelle Adjani has an incredible and iconic performance in that. She also was an Ellen of the past [in Werner Herzog’s 1979 ‘Nosferatu the Vampyre’] and so I was very honored to carry the French girl Baton to play Ellen in this version. After bursting on the scene in 2015 with "The Witch," Eggers has helmed a series of strange, dark, memorable films known for their supernatural and otherworldly stories as well as their devotion to meticulously recreating the past. Every Eggers movie so far, including this year's vampire horror extravaganza "Nosferatu," is firmly set in a bygone era, and Eggers and his teams take great care into making these slices of history feel authentic, as if we're not so much watching a recreation but actually gazing back into the past itself. To date, all of Eggers' films are either full-blown tales of horror or at the very least brush up against horror, and he's become a favorite for fans of the genre. Speaking for myself, I can unashamedly say I either like or...

Niels Arestrup, the French-Danish actor and muse to Emilia Pérez director Jacques Audiard who appeared in international features including Steven Spielberg’s War Horse and Julian Schnabel’s The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, has died. He was 75.
Arestrup’s wife, Isabelle Le Nouvel, confirmed his death to Agence France-Presse on Sunday, saying he died “at the end of a courageous fight against illness.”
Arestrup will forever be linked to Audiard and his performances in the filmmaker’s The Beat That My Heart Skipped (2005) — playing the criminal father to Romain Duris’ would-be concert pianist — and A Prophet (2009), in which he embodies a terrifying Corsican mob boss who runs his operation from within prison.
Arestrup won best supporting acting César awards, France’s equivalent of the Oscar, for both roles, and the performances solidified his image as an onscreen villain with a piercing blue gaze who is barely holding back the violence within.

Robert Eggers has already made it clear that the Lily-Rose Depp you see onscreen in “Nosferatu” is all real: No CGI was used to enhance how physically and psychically mad she goes under the spell of demon-lover vampire Count Orlok (Bill Skårsgard).
But the writer/director revealed more details about her unhinged performance as Ellen Hutter in a Q&a for Academy members in New York over the weekend, moderated by “Tàr” and “Little Children” director Todd Field. Lily-Rose Depp, who already showed a willingness to stretch her bounds in terms of choreography on HBO’s glitteringly messy series maudit “The Idol,” helps turn this 19th century gothic “Nosferatu” into a story of female possession — which, as Eggers pointed out, was central to F.W. Murnau’s original film and Werner Herzog’s 1979 take, “Nosferatu the Vampyre,” which featured “Possession” star Isabelle Adjani (yet another movie this one will inevitably draw...

Renate Reinsve’s cinematic reign is here.
The “Worst Person in the World” Cannes Best Actress winner leads Norwegian thriller “Armand,” which will be released in theaters after Reinsve already made her American debut with “A Different Man.”
For “Armand,” Reinsve stars as defamed actress Elisabeth, who is abruptly called into a parent-teacher meeting after hours after her six-year-old son allegedly started a fight with his cousin on elementary school property. As the official synopsis teases, while Elisabeth is “presented with scathing allegations, a tangled web of accusations between parents and faculty is triggered … As Elisabeth struggles to uncover the truth amid the empty school rooms and dark corridors, a chaotic fight for redemption arises where desire, madness, and obsession prevail.”
Ellen Dorrit Petersen, Thea Lambrechts Vaulen, Endre Hellestveit, Øystein Røger, and Vera Veljovic co-star
Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel, the grandson of Liv Ullmann and Ingmar Bergman, makes his feature directorial debut with “Armand.

Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz, and Joe Baken’s Grotesquerie started in a rather unassuming fashion, but it was clear that a palpable darkness was brewing under the surface of its characters and setting, like a gaping chasm to Hell that could swallow the world at any moment. There’s been an emphasis on order ruling over chaos – particularly in the form of jigsaw puzzles – right from Grotesquerie’s first episode. Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts) and the rest of her family would innocently solve puzzles all season while she simultaneously tries to put together the pieces of a grander serial killer mystery where Lois can’t see the forest for the trees. To Grotesquerie’s credit, it’s a series that’s routinely kept its audience guessing regarding how all these pieces possibly fit together and what the finished picture is supposed to look like. Grotesquerie certainly hasn’t been...

While there aren’t any movies quite like Coralie Fergeat’s “The Substance,” there are plenty of over-the-top horror films about transformation, incredibly weird science, shared identities and losing your damn mind, like the 1981 cult movie “Possession,” pretty much every David Cronenberg movie, as well as offerings from Ken Russell, Peter Strickland, Julia Ducournau and Ari Aster.
Expect screaming, exploding heads, lots of blood and some of the most insane endings ever.
Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill in “Possession” (Credit: Gaumont) Possession (1981)
Isabelle Adjani has the mother of all freakouts in a subway in this role that earned her a César for Best Actress (the French equivalent of the Oscars) and Best Actress at the Cannes Film Fest that year, but that’s not even the most mind-blowing part of the movie form Polish director Andrzej Żuławski. She’s also cheating on her husband (Sam Neill) with something that isn’t really human.

French actor-director Nicolas Bedos has received a one-year prison sentence, with six months suspended and compulsory treatment, for the sexual assaults of two women last year, according to Le Parisien.
However, Bedos — who was not present at the sentencing in Paris on Tuesday — was acquitted on a count of sexual harassment in 2018. His attorney, Julia Monkowski, said that she would appeal the sentence, Le Parisien reported.
Bedos is best known for directing “La Belle Epoque,” which played at the Cannes Film Festival and won three Cesar Awards in 2020. Bedos’ latest film, “Mascarade,” a heist romance starring Pierre Niney, Marine Vacth, Isabelle Adjani and Francois Cluzet, played out-of-competition at Cannes in 2022.
The charges against Bedos stemmed from a complaint filed by a woman for an alleged sexual assault on June 1 in a Parisian nightclub. Bedos allegedly put his hand on the crotch of the woman, who was wearing jeans. Two more...

It’s time to update your Golden Globe predictions at Gold Derby, because a major contender has just announced its awards strategy for the upcoming 2025 kudos. “The Substance” and its lead actress Demi Moore will compete in the Comedy/Musical categories, per our sister site The Hollywood Reporter. Previously, awards pundits assumed Mubi’s body horror flick would enter in the Drama races, but the satirical nature of the project convinced the campaigners — after a “debate even within the film’s and Moore’s camps” — to try their luck elsewhere.
This news comes on the heels of the November 4 submission deadline for the 2025 Golden Globes. THR’s Scott Feinberg previously unveiled the campaign strategies for many of the other films that could be seen as straddling the line between Drama and Comedy/Musical.

Plot: A teenager who stops off to see his dealer to test a new drug before heading off for a night of partying. On the way home, he picks up an injured woman and the night takes a surreal turn.
Review: The gimmick of the one-take scene has gotten pretty out of control in recent years with varied success. Netflix’s Extraction action series utilizes various techniques to accomplish long, seemingly unbroken takes. And with the many setups that action movies require, the unbroken takes are all the more impressive. But it’s been diminished as less and less effort is made towards execution. Often digitally stitched together, the one-take-shot no longer has that same sense of wonder it did when Henry Hill walked through the back of the restaurant and finally reached his table. But if there’s anyone that can make something interesting again: it’s the French.

Smile 2 writer-director Parker Finn has outdone himself once more.
It’s rare for a horror sequel to surpass its hit predecessor, but Finn’s second installment has done exactly that with critics and audiences. It’s also on pace to exceed Smile‘s opening weekend box office of $22.6 million from two years ago. In any event, Smile 2‘s success shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise since Ohio native Finn already defied the odds with his feature directorial debut. The 2022 horror film about a curse that’s passed on through an unsettling smile was originally made for Paramount+, but as soon as its first test screening brought the house down, the Sosie Bacon-led film pivoted to theatrical, grossing $217 million on a $17 million budget.

This week’s episode of IndieWire’s “Screen Talk” podcast covers a range of disparate topics that rarely stack up in the same sentence: the documentary Oscar race and the pervasiveness of horror movies at the box office.
As “Joker: Folie à Deux” continues its downward slope after a disastrous second weekend — one of the worst drops ever for a sequel — Damien Leone’s low-budget Cineverse-distributed slasher is the jewel of Halloween season. The horror genre remains a reliable stalwart of the box office at any time of year, but especially during spooky season. Also opening this weekend is Parker Finn’s impressively directed “Smile 2,” a studio sequel (Paramount) that is way more sophisticated than it had to be. It stars Naomi Scott as a pop star suffering a mental breakdown after she’s possessed by a suicide-compelling demon — think “Black Swan” plus, well, the last “Smile” movie,...

Smile franchise director Parker Finn teases a "completely bonkers" remake of the classic horror film, Possession. The helmer insists the updated movie, which acclaimed actor Robert Pattinson is attached to, will stay true to the 1981 original.
Speaking with GamesRadar+, Finn delved into what audiences can expect from the remake of Possession, one of the director's "favorite movies" ever. According to Finn, his main goal was to replicate the original film's maniacal essence in the remake, ensuring the new version is just as gripping. "Its early days, but were incredibly excited about this completely bonkers movie. Possession is one of my favorite films of all time, and so what was really important to me was that we were honoring the original and staying true to its absolute frenzied, manic ferocity," he said.

Good news, Possession fans! The director for the upcoming remake of Andrzej uawski's classic horror film, Parker Finn, is on the track to make a unique, "completely bonkers" film. Those familiar with the 1981 film, starring Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill, know that Finn does have very original source material, and his promise confirms that he will follow the same idea for the remake.
The remake, starring Robert Pattinson (who's also producing), will be distributed by Paramount Pictures, Finn's filmmaking home after his horror gem Smile made over $200 million for them in 2022. The project is still in early development, so there are not many details about it. However, while promoting Smile 2, Finn spoke to Games Radar about the upcoming Possession remake and expanded on the tone he's planning for the film:

French actor-filmmaker Nicolas Bedos is facing a one-year suspended prison sentence on charges of alleged sexual assault and sexual harassment under the influence of alcohol, Variety has confirmed.
During a criminal court hearing on Sept. 26, the Paris prosecutor requested a one-year suspended sentence for Bedos, as well as “an obligation of care for a period of two years,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement sent to Variety. Bedos’ attorney Julia Minkowski had no comment.
Charges against Bedos stem from a complaint filed by a woman for an alleged sexual assault which is alleged to have occurred on June 1 in a Parisian nightclub. Bedos allegedly put his hand on the crotch of the woman who was wearing jeans. Two more women since came forward accusing Bedos of sexual misconduct but neither filed a police complaint. She’s worked with most of the great names of European cinema, from Godard to Haneke, and on one of Hollywood’s greatest disasters. Now she’s ready for your closeup quizzing
France has quite a few grandes dames of cinema, with Catherine Deneuve, Juliette Binoche and Isabelle Adjani all very much in the game. But none can hold much of a candle to Isabelle Huppert, who is firing on all cylinders as she enters her 70s, in her sixth decade of headline acting performances. Tightly wound and fiery, while simultaneously self-contained and tough as nails, Huppert’s acting persona has been instrumental to a string of masterpieces – and even if the film around her isn’t that great, she’s always magnificent to watch.
With so many amazing credits, stretching back to the 1970s, it’s hard to pick out a few, but we’ll have a go: early...

Alessandra Lacorazza Samudio’s coming-of-age saga “In the Summers” took top honors at this year’s 50th edition of the Deauville American Film Festival, claiming both the Grand Prize and the Fondation Louis Roeder Revelation Prize, awarded by a parallel jury.
At once intimate and expansive, the film traces a Latin-American family portrait, using four vignettes to span two decades while following the evolving and often challenged relationship two siblings share with their father, played by Puerto Rican rap great Residente. “In the Summers” had previously won the grand jury prize and the director award out of Sundance, and is set for release by Music Box Films next week.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of French cinema so it was already an honor to show my film at the Deauville American Film Festival,” the director tells Variety. “To win was unbelievable; [I’m] incredibly grateful. I hope this allows more...

For those who love the murder mystery genre, The Perfect Couple is a good next option to add to the list. The mystery drama doesnt take itself too seriously. Its not as lighthearted as shows like Only Murders in the Building, but not as dark as ones like A Murder at the End of the World. The series has a soapy feel to it as well, akin to the shows like Dynasty mixed with the gorgeous backdrop of a beach thats reminiscent of shows like The White Lotus.
Like any good murder mystery, the Netflix series takes viewers on a twisty, turny ride through a murder investigation as viewers at home and characters in the show try to figure out what happened and whodunit. The red herrings and misdirects fly freely. Combined with the story of a wealthy, entitled family in the public eye, The Perfect Couple raises the stakes even higher.
