Captain America: Brave New World received a mixed response from fans and critics when it opened in theaters back in February. Extensive reshoots changed everything from The Leader's appearance to which characters were involved in the final battle, and the end result...well, it was what it was.
Still, there was plenty to love about the new Captain America's first movie, including that epic Red Hulk battle in Washington D.C. You'll get to watch that from the comfort of home, without paying for a Digital or Blu-ray copy, when Captain America: Brave New World hits Disney+ on May 28.
In the movie, Sam Wilson takes up the shield for a thrilling new chapter that thrusts him into a global conspiracy - and a high-stakes showdown with the fearsome Red Hulk!

Okay, so the broomsticks, margarita glasses, and sisterly screaming from Practical Magic are happening again. Yep, Practical Magic 2 is officially on its way, and we’re all set to rewind the golden age of VHS. Seriously, it’s been over 25 years since Sally and Gillian Owens first cast their chaotic charm on us. Now they’re back, still witchy, fabulous, and hopefully still making midnight drinks while breaking generational curses.
With Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman returning, we’re about to dive into the magic mix of potions, drama, and probably dancing in the moonlight. But while we wait for this magic to happen on September 18, 2026, let’s rewind the ‘90s mood of cult classics. Yep, we’re talking about those slightly weird, wildly lovable movies that stuck us like glitter on a velvet dress.
So, before the iconic Owen sisters return, let’s revisit the vibes that actually...

Ben Affleck might be an Oscar-winning actor, director, and screenwriter—but according to him, his harshest critic lives right under his own roof. Recently, in an amusingly candid moment shared with Jimmy Kimmel, Affleck revealed the brutal roasting he was given by his own children while they watched his 1998 disaster blockbuster, Armageddon. Some would say it is a brave person who endures a screening of their work with their kids, others would say it is foolish.
Michael Bay’s Armageddon is a movie that has divided opinion and been debated since its release almost 30 years ago. Starring Affleck alongside Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler, and a large ensemble cast, the film was the highest-grossing movie of the year in 1998, but it didn’t exactly become the darling of reviewers thanks to its usual Bay mix of over-the-top plotline, outlandish-action sequences, and a somewhat convoluted ending. In short, its story about a...

Jack Nicholson is a legend, no doubt about it. The man could mumble a half-sentence and somehow sound like the smartest guy in the room. But even geniuses have their off days, and when it comes to The Lord of the Rings, I seriously can’t get behind his opinion, which (to me) feels like one of those takes that aged worse than Gollum’s skincare routine.
In a world where Frodo, Gandalf, and the entire Middle-earth saga are basically sacred, Jack’s old-school take just sounds painfully out of touch now. I get it, not everyone has to love hobbits and epic quests. But come on, this is Lord of the Rings we’re talking about.

In the many millennia since, literature became an avid means of escaping human toil, there have been many stories written and retold. And in the modern age, one can argue that none quite captures the imagination so wholly as J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. In the early 2000s, director Peter Jackson adapted Tolkien's tale of the Third Age of Middle-earth, with The Fellowship of the Ring, and the subsequent two films, earning Jackson's trilogy a spot in cinematic folklore. However, that journey is not ended, as May 2024 brought with it the revelation that a new wave of movies from Middle-earth would be descending upon us soon, and Liv Tyler would very much like to be a part of it.
Tolkien's stories offered us a vast array of brilliant Elven characters to adore, and in Jackson's trilogy, Tyler's Arwen stood out. The daughter of Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and Celebrían,...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe officially kicked off in 2008 with Iron Man, and is still going strong nearly two decades later with its 36th feature film, Thunderbolts, opening in U.S. theaters on May 2. But for every Oscar-winning juggernaut like Black Panther or beloved action-comedy like Guardians of the Galaxy, there are MCU films that even the truest of fans wish never happened. We've consulted the cumulative IMDb scores and have come up with the definitive ranking of all Marvel Cinematic Universe movies to date.
Produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, the MCU is a shared universe of American superhero films based on countless editions of Marvel Comics. It's easily the highest-grossing movie franchise in history, topping $31.5 billion globally, with Avengers: Endgame being the biggest earner at $2.8 billion worldwide.

The Og "Lord of the Rings" crew has been in the news cycle a lot lately. With Warner Bros. planning new live-action J.R.R. Tolkien film adaptations, everyone is wondering who could show up again after a 20-year hiatus from Middle-earth acting.
You can count Liv Tyler among those ready to jump right back into the action. Tyler is, of course, famous for playing the Elven queen Arwen in Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" film trilogy. While the character has a minor role in Tolkien's source material, Arwen is busy in the movies. She fills in for the Elf-lord Glorfindel by saving Frodo (Elijah Woods) from the Black Riders and encourages Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) to fulfill his destiny and confront Sauron. She was even filmed in various fight sequences, including the Battle of Helm's Deep (although that was later cut during post-production).

Is the commentary track a lost art? For those who get their movies at home via streaming services, it certainly is. Unfortunately, the major services don't offer any sort of bonus features, while VOD purchases only come with a small selection of content. For those of us who still worship at the altar of physical media, the academic commentary track is alive and well, with every release containing at least one track examining a film. However, both groups have to endure the loss of what used to be a Hollywood staple: the cast commentary track for a recent film. While these continue to crop up on occasion, they've become exceedingly rare, which is bizarre for anyone who was around for the heyday of DVD. Heck, commentaries used to be such a prerequisite that in 2008's "Tropic Thunder," Robert Downey Jr.'s Kirk Lazarus (playing Lincoln Osiris) made a quip about...

What makes fear seep into the very marrow of our bones? Few films manage to penetrate this question, but when they do, they become unforgettable. In 2008, The Strangers answered the call with eerie simplicity, capturing an atmosphere of dread that’s as inescapable as it is haunting. It cemented itself as a modern horror classic, forcing us to confront a truth so unnerving it feels invasive: we are never truly safe. Fast forward fifteen years to The Strangers: Chapter 1—a reimagining that aims to expand and evolve the story for today’s audience. But does it achieve the same level of terror? Or does it sacrifice what made its predecessor so menacingly effective? While Chapter 1 brings fresh ideas, it’s the raw, almost primal simplicity of The Strangers (2008) that continues to strike the deepest nerve. In today’s episode of Horror Revisited, we’re not here to discuss one...

One industry name who credits Mackie's work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel is his Captain America predecessor, Chris Evans.

And speaking of Avengers: Doomsday, Mackie recently took to social media to share with MCU fans that he was currently flying out to the set to begin filming.

Was Mackie slyly alluding to Evans appearing in the next Avengers film, which is currently filming in London? If Steve Rogers does appear in the film, what do you think he'll say about Sam's performance as his handpicked successor?
And speaking of Avengers: Doomsday, Mackie recently took to social media to share with MCU fans that he was currently flying out to the set to begin filming.

'A Fierce Role:' Captain America 4's Giancarlo Esposito Open's Up About Playing The McU's Sidewinder

Captain America: Brave New World sees legendary actor Giancarlo Esposito tap into his dark side as he portrays the villainous Seth Voelker/Sidewinder in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. Though excited to play the superhero blockbuster's big bad, he admits it was a "fierce role" for him, given the physicality involved.
In a Brave New World featurette (via ComicBookMovie), Esposito detailed his experience portraying Sidewinder and how he prepared for his role as the Serpent Society's gun-toting leader. "This role, for me, is a fierce role," he said. "This is a role where I'm not just silent, saying a couple of words, scaring you with my eyes. This guy is backing it up with his physicality."
Esposito stated he needed to "get in that kinda physical place where your body speaks louder than your words," going to Atlanta to do arms training and other work for four days to get...

Captain America: Brave New World arrives at a time in MCU where the Og Avengers are dearly missed, “a bit of a low point,” to quote Deadpool. But that’s no measure to Sam Wilson aka new Cap’s (Anthony Mackie) leading abilities after all he’s been there right from the start. The character will return in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, and he’ll be “running the show.”
After Sam Wilson got the shield handed over by Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) in Avengers: Endgame, it took him some time to completely take over the mantle as we saw in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He came in his full Captain America avatar in the latest entry Brave New World. Writer of the feature Rob Edwards recently speculated where Sam Wilson’s story will take him next. "He's Captain America now, so arguably, he's running the show. I think that's the next step,...

Did Tom Hanks reject Charlize Theron? (Photo Credit – Wikipedia/Instagram)
The movie was That Thing You Do!, a musical dramedy about a one-hit-wonder band in the 1960s. Theron wanted the lead. Hanks passed. His reason? “You’re too much of a supernova to play Faye.”
That wasn’t just a creative choice, it was instinct. Tom Hanks saw the firepower in Theron long before the Academy did. She auditioned for Faye, the soft-spoken, supportive girlfriend of the band’s frontman. Hanks liked her, but he saw something else. Something bigger.
“Charlize read on the very first day that I read actors,” Hanks told The Ringer. “She said, ‘Listen, I know I can play Tina, but I want to play Faye.’ I said, ‘I get that,’ but what I was thinking in my head was, ‘You’re too much of a supernova to play Faye.’ Casting her was such a coup.

Captain America: Brave New World puts Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson in the forefront for the first time as the Sentinel of Liberty as he takes on the latest twists in the long-running Multiverse Saga. With the film setting up Wilson to be the new leader of the Avengers, the Captain America sequel's co-screenwriter feels that he's "running the show" as he prepares for the events of Avengers: Doomsday.
Speaking with ComicBookMovie.com, Brave New World scribe Rob Edwards addressed Wilson's future as Captain America following his first big-screen outing as the titular supersoldier. The Captain America follow-up teased its eponymous hero as the leader of the rebuilt Avengers, who haven't been seen together since Endgame, with Wilson rallying the troops following the death of Tony Stark/Iron Man and others. Edwards believes Wilson has shown he's ready to take on such a big mantle.

More than 20 years have passed since we last saw the Fellowship of the Ring and Frodo make their epic journey to destroy the One Ring in Middle-earth. However, it appears that the original cast of The Lord of the Rings franchise is ready to go back to Middle-earth. At least, Arwen, Samwise, Legolas and Gimli could be the ones returning in the future, as their performers didn't say no when approached with the idea of reprising their roles in a future movie of Peter Jackson's epic fantasy universe.

A new gag reel from behind the scenes of the latest MCU sequel, Captain America: Brave New World, shows what happens when Harrison Ford gets angry...and it’s hilarious. The Star Wars actor joined the world of Marvel this year, taking over the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross following the passing of William Hurt. Now President of the United States, Ross finds himself becoming part of the superhero world more than ever after transforming into the Red Hulk. Something that Ford had to act out on set. As you’d expect, the memes practically make themselves.
You can check out the gag reel from Captain America: Brave New World below, which also finds the likes of Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, and more in some pretty uncomfortable positions as they work hard to bring the wonders of the MCU to life on the big screen. Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World will be available to buy and rent on digital platforms from April 15, before hitting 4K Blu-ray/DVD on May 13, and the gag reel from the bonus features has now been released online.
The video is really just the usual outtakes and behind-the-scenes shots of the cast having fun, but there is a pretty great Star Wars callback from Harrison Ford.
As the story goes, Ford jokingly yelled at George Lucas while shooting a scene involving some particularly cheesy dialogue on A New Hope: "George! You can type this shit, but you sure can't say it! Move your mouth when you're typing!"
Here, Ford turns to the camera while filming an early scene with Anthony Mackie and repeats the famous phrase.

After a bumpy ride through production, Captain America: Brave New World reached theatres on February 14th – and over the last two months, it has earned about $413 million at the global box office. Now, SuperHeroHype has learned that the film is set to receive a digital release next week, on April 15th, with the 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD release to follow on May 13th.
The film went into production in March of 2023, with filming lasting through June. In December of ’23, another screenwriter was brought onto the project to write new material for reshoots, which seemed to be quite substantial. It was said that the reshoots were primarily done to rework three major action sequences – and this included adding Giancarlo Esposito into the mix as Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society, while also dropping a Serpent Society character that was played by wrestler Seth Rollins.

If The Purge had you hooked, you’re definitely not alone. The film’s eerie premise, where all crime, including murder, is legal for 12 hours, became a chilling look at the breakdown of society and what happens when law and order vanish. Released in 2013, The Purge blended home-invasion horror with a dystopian twist, capturing audiences with its high-stakes tension and unsettling exploration of human nature.
It wasn’t just another slasher film; it was a commentary on class, violence, and the darkest corners of society. The movie’s success was immediate, grossing over $300 million worldwide, and it quickly developed a cult following.

Captain America: Brave New World Worldwide Box Office: 8th Weekend Update ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
The MCU movie Captain America: Brave New World hangs in there despite losing theatres in the United States and the new releases. Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford’s film benefited from Snow White’s lousy performance, but not anymore. Captain America 4 suffered by the release of A Minecraft Movie and A Working Man. It is nowhere near the domestic top-five charts. Keep scrolling for more.
For the unversed, the fourth Captain America movie was made on a reported budget of $180 million, which is undoubtedly a large amount but still less than many MCU movies. Some of the Marvel Studio films’ budgets often go past $250 million. However, this number excludes the marketing cost. The movie features an exciting cast comprising Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, Xosha Roquemore, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford.

Captain America: Brave New World Worldwide Box Office: In Comparison With Civil War ( Photo Credit – Instagram; Facebook )
Anthony Mackie has been an essential part of the MCU since his first appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He was the Falcon until Chris Evans’ Captain America, aka Steve Rogers, handed him the shield. After one miniseries, Mackie finally got his solo MCU flick, Captain America: Brave New World, which is braving past the box office challenges due to its underwhelming performance. Although it has surpassed the global collection of The First Avenger, it is miles away from the Civil War’s total collection, which is the last film in the Evans-led franchise. Keep scrolling for the deets.
Before the fourth film was released, each Captain America movie earned more than its predecessor. For example, The Winter Soldier earned more than The First Avenger, and Civil War earned more than the second film.

Captain America: Brave New World continues the Marvel Cinematic Universe's string of polarizing post-Avengers: Endgame releases, with the superhero sequel earning mixed reviews from critics as its theatrical run nears its end. As the Valentine's Day release keeps getting little love from film buffs, one of its writers believes they "got it wrong" with their reviews.
Speaking with The Direct during WonderCon, Brave New World co-screenwriter Rob Edwards addressed the negative feedback from critics following the MCU blockbuster's release this past February. The Captain America sequel has a 48% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes and one of the worst marks for an MCU movie on CinemaScore. When asked if the reception was what he expected, Edwards said, "I kinda did, kinda didn't. I think similar things have happened... with a lot of different projects. It was weird to me, because some of my friends who are critics, I said, 'I think you guys missed it.

Deadpool and Wolverine proved to be a much-needed box office jolt for Marvel Studios, and also went over pretty well with fans and critics. Unfortunately, Captain America: Brave New World wasn't quite able to keep the momentum going.
Though the movie did recently pass $400 million worldwide (which didn't always seem likely), the critical reception was mixed-negative, and the fourth Captain America movie is currently sitting at 48% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 331 reviews.
Brave New World does have its defenders, but it's probably fair to say that the movie hasn't resonated with the Marvel faithful in a way those involved with bringing the film to the screen will have been hoping for.
While speaking to The Direct at WonderCon over the weekend, one of the movie's six credited writes, Rob Edwards, was asked if he was surprised by the critical response.
