Two of the biggest movies from the Karate Kidfranchise will be coming back to theaters before Karate Kid: Legendspremieres on the big screen. The Karate Kid (1984) and The Karate Kid (2010) will return on Saturday, May 10. Fans will be able to catch these stories on the big screen for one night only. Sony Pictures is getting ready to celebrate the premiere of the latest installment of the series by returning to the movies that turned this property into a pop culture landmark. That's not even taking into account the streaming spinoff that dominated Netflix for a few years.
The original Karate Kid movie started it all by introducing Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) as a young man who wanted to defeat the Cobra Kai team that was led by Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). The character was the former boyfriend of Daniel's love interest, Ali Mills (Elisabeth Shue). The only way to defeat...

Run Werewolf Run - An Illustrated Werewolf Novel by Onur Tukel: "Run Werewolf Run is the first novel from filmmaker Onur Tukel, who adapted it from a feature film script he wrote in 2018. "I've always loved this script," Tukel said. "It's one of my favorite projects. Covid complicated production for so many films in 2020, and I really wanted to bring this project to fruition, so adapting it as a novel made sense. It was much harder than writing a script, of course. I thought it might take a year or two, but it ended up taking five years.

The ’80s were a heyday for the underdog. Whether the arena was the corporate workplace or the hormone hurricane of high school, bullies and their respective comeuppances were ubiquitous in the decade’s cinematic offerings. 1984’s The Karate Kid was one of the most popular David vs. Goliath offerings on the big screen, and its legacy goes way beyond fly-hunting with chopsticks, or beachfront training montages, or its litany of catchphrases. Through sequels, reboots and small screen re-invention, the legend of The Karate Kid spans decades, and continues to inspire and delight each new generation as they meet life’s great challenges.

The early aughts launched a wave of horror remakes, but they’re especially known as an era full of American remakes of Japanese horror classics. One such adaptation is Takashi Shimizu‘s 2004 film, The Grudge, based on the Japanese film Ju-On: The Grudge, which Shimizu directed in 2002. It’s not often the original director is brought on for the American adaptation, so this is a fascinating film even for just that reason.
In the film, “An American nurse living and working in Tokyo is exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse, one that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life and spreading to another victim.“
The Grudge stars horror icon Sarah Michelle Gellar, as well as Jason Behr (Roswell) and Clea DuVall (The Faculty). It was a massive hit upon release, raking in a reported $187.3 million on a $10 million budget. It was released when I was a kid,...

Tom Hanks and the roles of soldiers go hand in hand, be it Captain Miller taking his boys on a mission or Forrest Gump going to war in Vietnam and winning the Medal of Honor, every time he plays a soldier, he absolutely kills it. In 2020, he got in front of the camera to don the uniform again, and this time as U.S. Navy Cmdr. Ernest Krause.
The 2020 movie was about Krause’s first mission, which turns into everyone’s last hope. Based on true events, Krause is assigned to be the commanding officer of an allied convoy that he is leading across the Atlantic during World War II, and they come under extreme threat from German U-boats. The movie was filled with intense sea battles filled with terror and missiles; after the huge success of the movie, it looks like Tom Hanks and Apple TV+ are gearing up for interesting new updates.

What were you doing in the middle of the 2020 lockdown? Experimenting with a sourdough bread starter? Learning to code? Embracing brain rot on TikTok? Well, while the rest of you were being productive, some of us were desperately trying to watch new movies wherever we could get them. Luckily, Apple TV+ sure scratched that itch with the straight-to-streaming release of "Greyhound." The Tom Hanks-starring movie followed a Naval commander in charge of a convoy of ships tasked with traversing waters infested with Nazi U-boats and other threats in the early years of World War II. It came, it went, and didn't make much of a fuss in either direction (as you can read from /Film's review at the time by Josh Spiegel). It was a peak Dad Movie™ in every sense of the phrase, and it seemed like it did its job.

"The Karate Kid" was never the kind of movie you'd expect to launch a decades-spanning franchise. In the age of streaming, though, everything is IP waiting to be harvested by the right media conglomerate. Hence, in the wake of "Cobra Kai," the "Karate Kid" brand has once again become a big deal, and many younger fans have discovered the property for the first time thanks to the Netflix show.
If you're interested in going back and watching through the older entries in the franchise, or if you've just heard the recent hype and want to watch straight through from the beginning, the good news is that ordering the "Karate Kid" movies and shows is pretty simple. The release order for all movies and series up to this point is the same as the canonical chronological order, with one small asterisk that we'll explain later. So, if you want to watch...

Did Mikey Madison win an Oscar for portraying a prostitute in Anora? (Photo Credit – AnoraFilm Instagram)
The 2025 Academy Awards came and went in a whirlwind, forging legacies for a slew of talents, though it’s the newcomers who galvanize the most intrigue with their ties to the golden statuette. Amid the night’s fervor, one victory stood out — a triumph that spotlights both a fresh face and a storied trope.
Mikey Madison, the 25-year-old dynamo from Anora, seized her first Oscar for Best Actress, outpacing The Substance’s Demi Moore in a twist few had prognosticated. The win, flanked by Anora’s haul of Best Picture, Director, and more, incentivized a floodlight on her nascent Hollywood path.
Maddison’s raw and unapologetic portrayal of the titular sex worker elucidated a character far from cliché, cementing her ascent with a cataclysmic bang. That win didn’t transpire without etching new stats...

This article contains spoilers for "Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 3.
With each new season of "Cobra Kai," it was difficult to not be in awe of its audacity to bring back all manner of "Karate Kid" alumni. The consistency in which it did so would sink just about any other franchise into empty nostalgic reverence ... and yet, it kind of worked. The only time it ever really fumbled this was with the unsettling AI resurrection of Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita). Otherwise, when a returning character like Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan) or Ali Mills (Elisabeth Shue) made an appearance on the show, they became integral parts of the story. Pulling heroes and villains from past films for "Cobra Kai" (like Thomas Ian Griffith's Terry Silver) retroactively made them better and, even more shockingly, meaningful.

Image Source: Amazon The 80s. A time of big hair, bigger dreams and a cinematic landscape of teen adventures we’ll never forget. Among those classics, a shining star: 1987’s Adventures in Babysitting. It wasn’t just a movie, it was a rite of passage, a wild ride through a city that felt both dangerous and exhilarating. Remember the thrill? A night of babysitting, a desperate plea for help and suddenly Elisabeth Shue’s character Chris Parker is navigating the urban jungle with three kids in tow. It was the perfect blend of comedy, suspense and that unmistakable 80s energy. The movie’s magic wasn’t just in the story, but in the cast. Elisabeth Shue fresh from The Karate Kid anchored the film with a mix of vulnerability and strength. Keith Coogan, Anthony Rapp and Maia Brewton brought youthful authenticity to the roles. And check out the supporting cast!

We see recasts pretty regularly on the big screen. For some franchises like Friday the 13th and Halloween, it’s almost a tradition. It’s less common in a non-genre arena. However, other major films have seen some of their important characters get recast for various reasons… and keep in mind that we’re only talking about movies here, not TV shows, so you won’t hear about Michiel Huisman replacing Ed Skrein as Daario Naharis on Game of Thrones, Charles Melton replacing Ross Butler on Riverdale, Liam Hemsworth replacing Henry Cavill on The Witcher, Janet Hubert being switched with Daphne Maxwell Reid as Aunt Vivian Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Nathan Parsons replacing Luke Grimes as James Kent on True Blood, Alessandra Torresani being replaced by Mae Whitman on Arrested Development, or Jeff the cab driver being recast in the final season of Better Call Saul. Cobra Kai’s showrunner Jon Hurwitz has addressed the cameo, or lack thereof, of Hilary Swank's character in the series finale. Swank played Julie Pierce in The Next Karate Kid, the fourth movie in the Karate Kid franchise and Pat Morita's last appearance as Mr. Miyagi. The film's reception was not good, and it ended up burying the franchise until the 2010 reboot. Although the showrunners and writers found a way to bring back almost every single character, even those played by late actors, Swank was one of the biggest legacy characters who wasn't present in the show. And we finally know the reason why.

This article contains mild spoilers for "Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 3.
Over the course of its six seasons, "Cobra Kai" has had a lot of cameos, but those have typically involved actors from the larger "Karate Kid" franchise. Actors like Robyn Lively, Elisabeth Shue, Tamlyn Tomita, Sean Kanan, Rob Garrison, and Tony O'Dell have all reprised their former "Karate Kid" film roles on the series, adding to the sense that "Cobra Kai" truly exists in the same living world as those '80s movies. In Season 6 Part 3, however, the show features a couple of cameos of another sort.
After the Sekai Taikai tournament ends in bloody fashion in Barcelona, Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) has the final rounds moved to the San Fernando Valley, where a pair of real-life sports commentators cover the matches for live TV. If these names and faces look familiar, then you've probably watched at least a...

What makes the Back to the Futuretrilogy iconic — other than its entire concept — is the characters that inhabit the story. Over the course of three films, viewers grew to love Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown (Christopher Lloyd), and the iconic '80s cast including Lea Thompsonas Marty's mother, Lorraine, and Crispin Glover as his father, George. It's hard to imagine anyone else playing these characters, which probably explains screenwriter Bob Gale's blunt answer about continuing the Back to the Future story. But one of those characters underwent a startling change: Marty's girlfriend, Jennifer Parker. Jennifer was originally portrayed by Claudia Wells in the first Back to the Future, but then was replaced by Elisabeth Shue, who played Jennifer in Back to the Future Part II and Back to the Future Part III. Surprisingly, there's another actress who was considered to play Jennifer, but was replaced by Wells last minute.

Cobra Kaihas officially ended, and while many characters from the Karate Kid franchise returned at some point, there was one that was strangely absent: Julie Pierce from The Next Karate Kid, played by Oscar-winner Hilary Swank. Even minor figures from the franchise had their respective cameos, making fans think that Pierce would also show up in the sixth and final season. Ultimately, it didn't happen, and co-creator Jon Hurwitz has revealed why.
Cobra Kai, the Karate Kid spin-off that renewed the public's fascination with the martial arts franchise, ended its run with Season 6 Part 3 debuting on Netflix a few days ago. Cobra Kai is more than just a nostalgic revival because it redefined the legacy of Karate Kid for an entire generation. The franchise stands for narratives of redemption, rivalry, and a pursuit of self-improvement. The show honored its predecessors and introduced characters who only added to the heartfelt storytelling.

After seven years of crane kicks, comebacks and character growth, “Cobra Kai” bows out this week with its final five episodes on Netflix. It’s been a wild ride, sometimes straining credibility with the sheer volume of interpersonal drama piled atop its martial arts warriors. But at its heart, the series always understood what made “The Karate Kid” mythology endure since 1984. Instead of merely taking audiences on a nostalgia trip full of familiar faces and places, “Cobra Kai” carved out its own identity elevating it beyond yet another ’80s relic wheeled out for sympathy.

Cobra Kai had no business being as good as it was ever. The first season was shockingly good, especially for those of us who loved the first few films of the series and expected nothing of that quality. Instead, the series was quite good. Even without the original source material, the show was fantastic.
The show is coming to a close, however. The final season (season 6) has been broken into three parts, but at least Netflix subscribers have gotten their money's worth. Instead of a three-episode arc, we have gotten 15 in total. That means storylines should be completed in full.
Over the seasons, we have seen a number of cameos from the original Karate Kid films. Elisabeth Shue as Ali Mills has shown up, so has Traci Toguchi who played Luna, and Rob Garrison as Tommy. But one actor we have not yet seen is Hilary Swank, who was the...

This is it: the end of the "Karate Kid" saga as we know it. Sure, there's the upcoming "Karate Kid: Legends" movie that connects the original "Karate Kid" films with the 2010 reboot, but so far that feels only superficially linked and more like the start of something new. Instead, the first proper trailer for Part 3 of "Cobra Kai" Season 6 makes it clear this is the conclusion of the greater 40 year franchise so far -- and to celebrate, the show is going back to where it all started.
"Cobra Kai" is the little legacy sequel that could. The show defied all expectations about what a "Karate Kid" sequel series could be. It not only earned huge praise but also survived the death of a streaming platform to become one of Netflix's biggest shows. (Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
Horror movies may not often get a whole lot of respect, critically speaking. For whatever reason, they are often treated as a lesser form of entertainment. It's only the rarest of rare genre offerings that can go on to become embraced both critically and commercially, with Jordan Peele's "Get Out" serving as a shining example from relatively recent times. That's an outlier though. One undeniable truth though is that these movies are a reliable backbone for Hollywood studios, delivering consistent profits against relatively low investments. Good movies, bad movies, it often doesn't matter.
Hardcore horror fans will tell you that the number of bad movies far outweighs the good in any given year. It's about searching for that diamond in the rough.

Series creator Eric Kripke revealed their approach to developing The Boys episodes. He also teased how current events (and how these unfold) will be written into Season 5's storylines.
Eric Kripke said they're developing The Boys Season 5's script on the fly. "I mean, they're not all written, by the way," he told Forbes. "They're about half-written. I mean, look - things adjust all the time." That revealed so much about their creative approach, which also put the previous seasons' plots in perspective. The Boys does not pull any punches in tackling difficult issues; Kripke has confirmed the show is a cautionary tale on authoritarianism, and Homelander is the embodiment of absolute, unchecked power. Kripke asserted that has always been their goal.

The Back to the Future trilogy is one of the most beloved franchises in film history, known for its inventive storytelling, unforgettable characters, and time-traveling adventures. It's safe to say Back To The Future wasn't only a great movie, but the launching pad to an iconic trilogy praised for its interconnecting stories of set-ups and payoffs. However, when the first film was released in 1985, a sequel wasn’t part of the plan. The filmmakers crafted a satisfying ending with a thrilling cliffhanger, where Doc Brown returns from the future to whisk Marty and his girlfriend, Jennifer, off in the flying DeLorean.
This decision created a significant challenge when Back to the Future Part II went into production. Director Robert Zemeckis wasn’t thinking ahead to more Back to the Future movies, and had he known one was on the horizon, he would have written the ending differently. This seemingly small decision had a ripple effect,...

Laurence Fishburne left CSI: Crime Scene Investigation for a specific reason. The show, which premiered on CBS in 2000, was created by Anthony E. Zuiker and ran for 15 seasons, in the process spawning half a dozen spinoffs including CSI: Miami, which ran for 10 seasons, and CSI: NY, which ran for nine. The flagship show, which followed a Las Vegas Police Department crime scene investigation team, featured a rotating cast of stars over the years, which included William Petersen, Marg Helgenberger, Gary Dourdan, George Eads, Jorja Fox, Paul Guilfoyle, Eric Szmanda, Robert David Hall, Louise Lombard, and Elisabeth Shue.
Laurence Fishburne joined the CSI franchise in 2008, first appearing on the flagship show in season 9 as former medical doctor Raymond Langston and becoming a main cast member two episodes later, after the departure of Petersen's longtime character Gil Grissom, who had been a part of the series since the pilot. The gritty action movie that started a franchise featuring genre icon Charles Bronson has gotten a new streaming home. Though it featured Bronson in the lead, the movie also notably featured the on-screen debut of actor Jeff Goldblum.
Originally released in 1974, Death Wish is now streaming on Paramount+. Directed by Michael Winner and written by Wendell Mayes, the film starred Bronson as Paul Kersey, a mild-mannered middle-aged family man living in Manhattan. Though it's well-known as a family movie, Back to the Future Part II has some jokes that aren't safe for work, and one can only be seen by pausing at exactly the right moment. While there were some things Back to the Future Part II got right about 2015, not all of its predictions were right. From self-lacing sneakers to flying cars, there were a few wild predictions about the future in one of the best Back to the Future movies. One such prediction was only in a few seconds of the film, and finding it means finding a dirty joke that wasn't intended for young audiences.

The Back to the Future franchise may revolve around them, but neither Doc Brown nor Marty McFly were the world's first time travelers. This is a point that many viewers can overlook about the movie, since it certainly feels like Michael J. Fox's Marty is the first one to go back in Doc's time-traveling DeLorean - but he gets beaten by a technicality. The fact Marty got to use the time machine Doc Brown spent 30 years building first must be heartbreaking in itself, though Doc doesn't show any signs of bitterness about this within the Back to the Future trilogy.
Of course, Doc and Marty weren't the only people to use the DeLorean either. Marty's girlfriend Jennifer (Claudia Wells/Elisabeth Shue) and Old Biff (Thomas F. Wilson) also took spins in the machine - though series director Robert Zemeckis later regretted including Jennifer in the trip to 2015, since she...

Wax On, Wax Off. For those of us who lived through the 1980s, The Karate Kid has been in our lives in one way or another. Even if you have never seen any of the films, you know what Wax On, Wax Off means. In 2018, we got to take a trip back to the All Valley Karate Tournament to see what Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence were up to. The series Cobra Kai became a big hit on Netflix (after moving from YouTube Red), but with that series winding down, are we saying goodbye to our beloved characters? Not quite yet.

Before Cobra Kai became a hit, they tried once again to get some juice out of the Karate Kid IP. Only this time without any previous characters. In 2010, a “remake” of The Karate Kid was made. They transported the action to China with a young Jaden Smith...

Photos taken from the set of The Boys season 5 show the sinister lengths that Homelander (Antony Starr) will go to quell any resistance by anti-supe protesters. The dark Prime Video superhero series imagines a world where the profession of powered heroes is dominated by corrupt corporations and dangerous and power-hungry narcissistic individuals. The fifth and final season of The Boys will see Homelander finally gain control of the world, as the titular group is divided and imprisoned.
As filming for The Boys season 5 continues, new posts by True_Cabinet_9733 on The Boys subreddit show previously teased plans come to life. The photos depict internment camps being erected in a woodland. Dubbed "Freedom Camp 47," the installation is lathered in a red, white, and blue color scheme.

The opening of Back to the Future Part II pays homage to its predecessor in the most unexpected way — by recreating the final scene of the original movie, but with a subtle and funny twist. The sequel picks up right where the first movie ends: with Christopher Lloyd's Doc Brown reappearing in the DeLorean.
In both the original final scene and the reshot opening, Doc convinces Marty and his girlfriend, Jennifer, to return to the future in order to help their children. However, reshooting the Back to the Future ending for Part II wasn't just a practical choice for continuity and reminding audiences what happened before; it was one that carved out an indelible comedic touch to open the sequel.
