This past Sunday was May the Fourth, aka Star Wars Day. Fans everywhere celebrated the legendary sci-fi franchise, sometimes in really weird ways. Heritage Auctions kept things more traditional with an auction featuring items drawn from the vast history of the storied franchise.
Some items went for high prices, including:
A helmet worn by lead character Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) went for $137,500, the biggest ticket item of the event.A rare action figure of Boba Fett with improper coloring sold for $40,000Concept poster art of C-3Po and R2-D2 from 1978 sold for $33,750.
So some Star Wars fans rang in the holiday with very expensive new toys. May the Force by with them.

Imagine a world where Han Solo had a little thick voice, and he carried a gun similar to a gangster with a leaned-in posture. Doesn’t look right, right? However, that would have been the character of Han Solo had Al Pacino not refused the script for Star Wars!
The actor, who talked about his regrets (which he prefers to call ‘mistakes’), talked about turning down the role of Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise, having life lessons learnt the hard way, and more in an interview.

Tony Gilroy didn’t just tweak Rogue One, he delivered what’s easily one of the boldest moves Star Wars has made since George Lucas stepped back. While other projects played it safe with nostalgia and Jedi lore, Gilroy gave us a gritty, boots-on-the-ground war story where survival wasn’t guaranteed and happy endings weren’t on the menu.
His biggest change was fearless, yes, and it completely redefined what Star Wars could be without the Skywalkers front and center. In a galaxy full of rewrites and reshoots, Rogue One stands tall as a rare risk that actually paid off.

Ewan McGregor is a leading pop culture icon, thanks to his brilliant performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars franchise. The fans were elated when he returned to his iconic role, years after the Prequel Trilogy, in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series was set after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. It followed Ewan McGregor’s surviving Jedi Master, coming out from his hiding to rescue a young Princess Leia, kidnapped by the Galactic Empire. Interestingly, McGregor had a brilliant idea for a second season of the show that never came to fruition.

Following the mixed reception of the Sequel Trilogy, Star Wars has given out a series of TV shows. Notably, some of them, like The Mandalorian and Andor, have been widely loved by the fans.

Now that "Thunderbolts*" is out and we're almost done gushing about how great this movie is, it's time to focus on the season 6 premiere of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: "The Fantastic Four: First Steps."
We're still a couple months out from the film's release, but "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" has given us plenty to be excited about. For starters, the movie is being directed by Matt Shakman, who previously helmed the wonderful and visually-stunning "WandaVision." Then there's the fact that the film is finally fixing a big Marvel mistake and bringing Galactus into the screen in all its full-body glory. On top of that, every single piece of casting for this movie is phenomenal, from the Fantastic Four themselves being played by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach to Julia Garner portraying Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson voicing Galactus.

Thanks to "Star Wars Rebels," we've known that the Ghorman Massacre was something that would be coming to a head at some point during this season of "Andor." This third batch of episodes in season 2 has given us a look at exactly how the Imperial Security Bureau baited the Ghormans into protest, how they shaped the galactic sentiment against the Ghormans, and how they crushed them with superior firepower. Now that we've seen the eighth episode of this second season and the massacre itself played out, we're able to understand the utter depravity with which the Empire operated. It was so disgusting it was even revolting to Syril Karn (Kyle Soller), and that says quite a bit given he's been so dedicated to the order brought about by the Empire.
The Ghorman protest and ensuing massacre isn't without echoes of films from the past, though, and there are two in...

Be ready to give up all chance at inner peace and make your mind a sunless space if you haven't watched episode 8 of "Andor" season 2, because there are major spoilers ahead.
One of the biggest magic tricks "Andor" pulls is make you forget it's a prequel. The problem with prequels is that, by knowing what's coming, the tension disappears. How can you surprise the audience when they know where things are headed? Where the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy focused almost entirely on just showing the origin of characters we knew and how they ended up where the audience first met them, "Andor" (and "Rogue One" before it) have a similar approach to the balancing act of the masterpiece that is "Better Call Saul."
Though we know where Cassian (Diego Luna), Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) end up, the surprises and tension rest on those characters whose fates we don't already know.

Thanks to President Trump's AI-generated Star Wars post on May the Fourth, The Daily Show's Jon Stewart hilariously felt the need to explain the nature of red lightsabers and how they're created by Sith Lords. Over the galactic holiday weekend, the White House's official socials posted an image of the President to celebrate May the Fourth (and take some shots at the radical left). However, the image itself sparked some humorous confusion from those clearly more familiar with the galaxy far, far away.
On the same day President Trump announced his intentions to somehow tariff movies, the White House posted an image of Trump as what was believed to be a Jedi Knight in honor of Star Wars Day. However, the lightsaber in his hand was red, signifying an allegiance to the dark side of the Force and suggesting instead that Trump was in fact a Sith Lord.

The 1990s were a significantly transforming decade for television. From relatable goofy shows to mind-bending sci-fi sitcoms, the ’90s were the blueprint of success. Back then, streaming had not yet altered media consumption drastically. People also relied heavily on television as their primary source of entertainment.
Television was a different game with high stakes and possible profit margins. A lot went into crafting an episode that would captivate the audience and leave them craving for more.

From stellar star-cast to ambitious storytelling, each element of these shows came with a hefty price tag. And in the golden era of television, some shows easily became quite expensive to make. Here is a ranking of the most expensive TV shows from the 90s.

George Lucas launched the Star Wars franchise almost 50 years ago, with the 1977 film. Over the years, the franchise has set new benchmarks in modern blockbuster filmmaking and continues to be a pillar of pop culture. As a result, it isn’t a surprise that Lucas’ franchise has inspired generations.
One of the franchise’s biggest fans is actress Kaley Cuoco, best known for her role in the sitcom The Big Bang Theory. Similarly, MCU star Brie Larson has also spoken about her love for the epic space opera franchise. It is a shame the duo has never appeared in the Star Wars franchise, and here is what the actresses had to say about their love for it.

Star Wars Day offers fans of the epic space opera franchise a chance to reflect on their favorite movies. It marks the franchise’s anniversary while also serving as a celebration of the galaxy far, far away, which has experienced some low points in the past decade, thanks to the sequel trilogy produced under Kathleen Kennedy.
Ahead of this year’s celebration, the franchise’s fans discussed the sequel trilogy and its many plot holes on social media. However, one plot hole from the Daisy Ridley-led movies stands out, particularly because of how contrived it feels in the overall narrative. Here is the one plot hole that fans are still unhappy about from the Star Wars sequels.

Joel may be gone, but his presence is haunting every step Ellie (Bella Ramsey) takes in The Last of Us Season 2. And according to series co-creator Craig Mazin, that’s very much intentional. In the official HBO podcast for Episode 4, titled “Day One,” Mazin and Neil Druckmann unpacked the deeper emotional and thematic layers beneath Ellie’s obsession with justice — or vengeance — and how Joel’s memory has become something more than just grief, but taken a step into mythology. Mazin explained the lingering influence of Joel (played by Pedro Pascal) by comparing it to some of the most iconic storytelling tropes in history — andStar Wars fans will immediately catch the reference

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld."
There is good "Star Wars," and there is bad "Star Wars," and sometimes, you can get both in just a couple days. Right now, "Andor" season 2 is in the middle of its run, earning unprecedented critical praise for the franchise. At the same time, Lucasfilm has just released the third season of its "Tales" anthology -- a short-form animated show focusing on a different corner of the universe and pair of characters with each installment.
Following "Tales of the Jedi" in 2022 and "Tales of the Empire" in 2024, this year's Star Wars Day (May the 4th) brought "Tales of the Underworld," with three 15-ish-minute episodes each for Cad Bane (Corey Burton) and Asajj Ventress (Nika Futterman). Star Wars fans, don't expect any details about Star Wars: Starfighter to be spoiled any time soon. The latest director to enter the Star Warsfranchise and march to the tune of John Williams' signature score has revealed a very important lesson that he learned when making Stranger Things. Shawn Levy has been playing a key part behind the camera since the beginning of the Netflix fantasy horror hit, and now that he's been announced to tackle one of the upcoming Star Wars movies, Levy says that the very popular series taught him to stay quiet and not spill any details.
The director, also famous for his work on Deadpool & Wolverine and the Night at the Museum franchise, spoke to Variety during the premiere of Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the play that serves as a prequel to the Netflix show. Star Wars star Daisy Ridley gave fans an unexpected treat on this year's Star Wars Day. She shared a photo of herself in character from behind the scenes of The Rise of Skywalker.
In a post on her Instagram stories that was shared on the Star Wars Cantina subreddit, Ridley posted the photo from The Rise of Skywalker, captioning it "Happy Star Wars day to all who celebrate". The photo appears to be a selfie, with Ridley smiling in her dressing room while other outfits rest on hangers behind her. The Rise of Skywalker was Ridley's latest film in the Star Wars franchise, after 2015's The Force Awakens and 2017's The Last Jedi.
Ridley rose to fame for her portrayal of Rey, a scavenger who was abandoned as a child on the desert planet of Jakku, later becoming an ally of the Resistance and training to become a Jedi with Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa.

Another Star Wars Day is upon us and that means fans of the films are looking for one thing: where every single “Star Wars” movie can be streamed online, preferably as easily and swiftly as possible.
The short answer is Disney+. Every “Star Wars” film and TV series is available on the streamer for subscribers.
When “Episode IV: A New Hope” was released, filmmaker George Lucas told audiences the story was being told out of order. With the addition of prequels and sequels, this admission has fostered a discussion about when and how the movies should be enjoyed.

Yes, the White House has just inadvertently called Donald Trump a Sith in its own surreal celebration of Star Wars Day. Star Wars has always been political; what's more, there's always been a political dimension to Star Wars Day, the franchise's annual celebration. "May the Fourth be with you" was first invoked by British newspapers when Conservative leader Margaret Thatcher won a General Election on that day in 1979.
The White House has just taken this one step further, though, issuing a tweet in honor of Star Wars Day that seems to have been trying to present Donald Trump as a Jedi hero. There's just one problem; the AI-generated image features a red lightsaber blade, the color of Sith and dark Jedi. Far from calling Trump a Jedi, the White House has just called him a Sith.

In 2025, Star Wars fans worldwide are celebrating one of the greatest sequels of all time—The Empire Strikes Back. At the 45th-anniversary screening event during the 16th annual TCM Classic Film Festival, none other than George Lucas, the Jedi Master himself, finally solved a mystery as old as the film: Why in the Hutt does Yoda talk that way?!
Yoda is one of the most recognizable figures in all of cinema, not just Star Wars, and just like the character himself, his iconic way of speaking has transcended the film series.

And starting with the very first installment, filmmaker George Lucas made clear to audiences that he was telling a saga out of order. The pilot for "Community" creator Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab's TV series "Heat Vision and Jack" was ordered by Fox back in 1999, but the network was a little put off by the show and never picked it up for a series. The pilot did end up airing on Fox as a 30-minute TV special, although it gained more notoriety among VHS traders and cult TV lovers. "Heat Vision and Jack," as directed by Ben Stiller, was to be a "Renegade"-style series about Jack Austin (Jack Black), an itinerant loner-on-the-road who helps random people in trouble. His only possession is his reliable motorcycle, and he is on the run from the law.
The twist is that Jack's motorcycle could talk to him, as it contained the spirit of his best friend Doug (Owen Wilson). Doug had been recently shot by an experimental ray gun, shunting his consciousness into the motorcycle.

Once a heroic Jedi named Anakin Skywalker, the man took a sharp turn to the dark side and became the much-dreaded villain of the galaxy far, far away. Whether you view Darth Vader as a tragic fallen hero or the ultimate villain, you have to agree that he is the face of Star Wars. If there is a fictional universe where the villain is more popular than the hero, it is this one. While the dark side has many unforgettable characters, Darth Vader will always remain the most iconic out of all, and for all the right reasons.
For years, fans have thought about the exact moment that Anakin crossed the threshold of ethics and morals to become Darth Vader. While many link the villain’s first appearance to the infamous massacre in Revenge of the Sith, he actually appeared a little earlier in the story, if you remember. And if you don’t,...

Yeah… George Lucas was criticized quite heavily when the director first envisioned Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The director had his fair share of critics and judgments from friends and foes alike, but that never stopped Lucas from making the magic.
One of the worst criticisms that Lucas had heard was from fellow director and friend Brian De Palma. The director had allegedly called it the worst movie ever made, but it was De Palma himself whose criticism actually helped George Lucas create some iconic moments in the first film, which made it better.
Brian De Palma didn’t like the 1st Star Wars film at all
Well, that isn’t exactly true since De Palma was running in the same circle that included George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and other visionary directors. However, Lucas was still a bit new to the game, unlike Spielberg and De Palma.

Yes, I'm that guy -- the dude standing up courageously in the Norman Rockwell painting meme. I have the courage to say what we've all been too afraid to admit for 20 years now: When George Lucas made his final "Star Wars" film, 2005's "Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith," he made his magnum opus. Doomed from the start after two predecessors that got critics and moviegoers alike in an unprecedented tizzy, the final "Star Wars" prequel was likewise dismissed by many filmgoers as horribly directed, poorly plotted, and badly made.
But that's wrong. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
Yes, I admit that I'm a "prequel kid' -- one of those dang millennials born too late to see the original "Star Wars" trilogy in theaters but just in time to think that podracing is really wizard. I was nine when "Revenge of the Sith" -- the...

Yes, it’s the glorious time of the year again for Star Wars fans, May the Fourth be with you. As lightsabers hum and Jedi robes swirl across the galaxy, (and the internet), it’s impossible to ignore how George Lucas’ space saga still rules pop culture hyperspace. From Baby Yoda memes to lightsaber-wielding toddlers, the Star Wars Force is very much alive.
But as we raise our blue milk in celebration today, there’s one Jedi injustice we still can’t let go of. It’s Revenge of the Sith, yes, that fiery, heart-shattering, lava-scorching Episode III which somehow got the cold shoulder at the Oscars.
Surprisingly, the movie didn’t get nominated for Best Visual Effects, like really Academy? Even Mustafar’s lava would’ve frozen in shock. Sure, it did get a nod for hair and makeup, but scorning the most CGI-heavy prequel? That still doesn’t sit well with us.

It is May the 4th, and the world is celebrating the Star Wars franchise (because of the line “May the Force be with you”). It feels so strange that despite George Lucas creating and releasing Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope in 1977, people still talk about the movie to this day.
From a plethora of awards to becoming a global pop-culture phenomenon with millions of fans worldwide, the story of the Star Wars franchise is quite incredible, especially that of its visionary George Lucas. However, there was a time when Lucas didn’t believe in his own film and didn’t even attend the premiere!

Hollywood has always been a place where dreams come true, not just for aspiring actors but also for those who’ve already made it big. The entertainment industry’s financial ecosystem is fascinating, with top-tier talent commanding paydays that would make even Wall Street executives blush.
We’re talking about actors who don’t just earn millions but tens of millions for a single role! These astronomical figures come through various arrangements—straight salaries, backend profit participation, box office bonuses, and merchandise royalties.
What’s truly mind-blowing is that many of these mega-deals happened years ago, when $20 million was worth even more than it is today. Let’s dive into the world of Hollywood’s highest-paid performers and discover how they turned screen time into serious bank.
1. Sandra Bullock – $70+ million for “Gravity”
Can you believe that America’s sweetheart, Sandra Bullock, made more than $70 million for floating around in space for 90 minutes?...

Annual critics’ lists are important, sure. But when the world’s most successful filmmaker picks a favorite movie, people listen.
At the AFI’s annual 50th Life Achievement Award event held April 26 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Steven Spielberg was among friends and collaborators who couldn’t refuse offering kudos to honoree Francis Ford Coppola. When Spielberg and fellow helmer George Lucas presented the AFI honor to Coppola, the Schindler’s List and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial director said onstage that Coppola’s 1972 Oscar-winning classic The Godfather was, to him, “The greatest American film ever made.”
Certainly, a solid choice (who wants to get metaphorically whacked like Sonny Corleone at the toll booth for saying otherwise?). And Spielberg did clarify his statement as The Godfather being the best American film, setting it apart from world cinema. While great directors frequently change up their top films, many have stated the ones that hold prime spots.

The lightsaber duels constitute a significant part of the Star Wars franchise. Throughout the movies and series in the space-opera saga, we have seen many lightsaber duels that will be etched in our minds forever. The Duel of the Fates and The Battle of Mustafar are counted among the best pop culture moments.
Among all the lightsaber duels seen across the franchise, Star Wars: The Revenge of the Sith has some of the most notable action sequences. Though the final throne room sequence in The Last Jedi is praised by many for its technical brilliance, it fails to touch the greatness of Episode III.

Following the memorable Duel of the Fates at the end of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, fans did not get good duels in Attack of the Clones.

Harrison Ford‘s name has been synonymous with Hollywood greatness for decades. Starting his career in the mid-1960s with minor roles, he found his big break in American Graffiti (1973). But it was Star Wars (1977) that truly launched him into superstardom, making him one of the most recognized faces in cinema.
Harrison Ford still remains a tour de force in Hollywood. His most recent outing in a superhero film, no less, as the no-nonsense Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in Captain America: Brave New World shows that the octogenarian actor’s still got it. From action-packed adventures to thrilling dramas and even the occasional romantic comedy, Ford has done it all. While he’s often known as a rugged hero who doesn’t back down from a fight, his roles have showcased a variety of emotions and depth. Here is a look at ten of his most iconic performances that have left everyone speechless.

After the passing of Ray Stevenson and the premiere of Season 1 of Ahsoka, it was clear that Star Wars had a real tough choice to make. His character, Baylan Skoll, was instantly iconic, and it was clear from the season's cliffhanger that there was so much more to tell. However, there was a real question about how to do it. Star Wars had been embracing deep fake technology, and some actors, like James Earl Jones, approved using AI for their voice and likeness before they passed away.
While impressive from a special effects standpoint, there was something about these technological choices that didn't look or sound right. Fans have been mixed on these applications in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Book of Boba Fett.
So, with the announcement of Rory McCann stepping in for Baylan Skoll and the reveal that Benjamin Bratt now plays Bail Organa in Andor,...

Spike Lee is reflecting on the impact that Jim Jarmusch’s “Stranger Than Paradise” had on his own film career. Lee said during the Criterion Channel’s “Adventures in Moviegoing” that he admired fellow auteur Jarmusch while the duo were both at the Tisch grad school for film.
When asked by host Sheril Antonio, the New York University Tisch School of the Arts’ Senior Associate Dean of Strategic Initiatives, which directors most influenced his filmmaking while he was in school there, Lee said, “The first has got to be Jim Jarmusch. He was two years ahead of me [in grad school]. I worked in the equipment room, so I checked out the equipment. I mean, Jim’s hair was white even back then! So when ‘Stranger Than Paradise’ hit [in 1984], that was like a revelation to everybody. He still is our hero.”

Was Tom Selleck supposed to be Indiana Jones? ( Photo Credit – Flickr; Instagram )
For most movie lovers, Harrison Ford is the signature face of Indiana Jones – whip, rugged and charismatic. But believe it or not, Ford wasn’t the first pick to play the now-iconic adventurer. In fact, had things gone slightly differently in the early ’80s, Tom Selleck might’ve been outrunning boulders and chasing down ancient relics in the blockbuster film franchise.
Yes, the moustachioed TV heartthrob of Magnum, P.I. fame was actually the original choice to play Indiana Jones. The surprising reveal recently came from Karen Allen, who played Marion Ravenwood opposite Ford in the film. In a candid conversation reflecting on her career, Allen confirmed that Selleck was the maker’s first choice to play the titular character and was even approached for the same. However, Tom Selleck couldn’t take up the role because of...

In the distant future of the 24½th century, a black duck dressed in a bright green shirt with an oversized red cape is summoned to an outer-space headquarters and given his mission. The world’s supply of shaving cream atoms is running out and only he, Duck Dodgers (played by Daffy Duck), can save the day — along with some help from his Eager Young Space Cadet (Porky Pig).
Over the next seven minutes, Dodgers bungles his mission and instead ends up in a war with Marvin the Martian that results in the destruction of the very thing Dodgers was after in the first place. But while the disastrous ending of Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century was fairly typical for Daffy Duck, nothing else about the cartoon was. The 1953 short, directed by Chuck Jones, is one of the most singularly memorable cartoons in the entire library of the original 1,000 Looney Tunes shorts.

Gareth Edwards On Teaming With Spielberg For Jurassic World Rebirth: ‘This Really Shouldn’t Happen!’

When Steven Spielberg is in blockbuster mode, you’re always in for an adventure – whether on the high seas in Jaws, exploring ancient tombs with Indiana Jones, or hitting the deadly dino climes of Isla Nublar in Jurassic Park. And so when Gareth Edwards – who’s long displayed moments of Spielbergian flair in the likes of Rogue One, Godzilla, and The Creator – got the call to make a Jurassic movie, from the man himself, he too was set for a filmmaking adventure of his own. The resulting Jurassic World Rebirth is a film that not only kicks off a new era of cinema’s greatest dino franchise, while throwing it back to the ’93 original; it’s also shot through with DNA from Spielberg’s other classics.
As seen in Rebirth’s trailer, one major set piece sees our characters attacked on water from a Mosasaur, as well as several marauding Spinosauruses.

Different viewers have different expectations when it comes to sci-fi. While on one hand, many are ready to overlook some plot contrivances in favor of the narrative’s emotional bits, a sizeable demographic often prioritizes the realism depicted in them. Neil deGrasse Tyson unsurprisingly comes from the latter category, given his background as an astrophysicist.
And even though the conundrum of choosing between the two biggest sci-fi can prove to be a nightmare for fans of the genre, in Tyson’s case, it was fairly easy when it came to picking between Star Wars and Star Trek‘s space vessels.

The bizarre manner in which Yoda speaks has a monumental presence in global pop culture. You'd hear people who are not even Star Wars fans talk like that. But why was such an important character made to speak like that? George Lucas revealed the reason recently.
Appearing at a 45th anniversary screening of The Empire Strikes Back on the opening night of the 2025 TCM Classic Film Festival, Lucas said he did it to make people pay attention.
"Yoda had a very distinctive way of talking, and it was done purposely because if you were speaking regular English, people don't listen that much," Lucas told TCM’s primetime host Ben Mankiewicz. “But if you have an accent, or it’s really hard to understand what he’s saying, they focus on what he’s saying."
"He was basically the philosopher of the movie, so he was talking about all the things.

Revenge of the Sith has officially wrapped up its re-release, and the final film in the Star Wars prequel trilogy found immense success at the box office. After grossing $25.4 million at the box office this weekend, Hayden Christensen’s Star Wars movie then earned $2.4 million on Monday and $2.7 million on Tuesday at the domestic box office. At the time of writing, the film sits at a domestic total of $410 million and an international total of $485 million, helping its global total reach $896 million. This $410 million domestically is enough to push Revenge of the Sith past Iron Man 3 to become one of the 30 highest-grossing sequels ever. It will likely pass Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when the final numbers come in, but possibly fall short of Toy Story 3.
It’s unclear at this time if any additional screenings for Revenge of the Sith will be added, but after it’s performed so well,...

It's May, which means with the upcoming warmer months (north of the equator), we get more beachy films. Or, at least, a warmer and fluffier feel as far as the films we see on Netflix. The comedy will be fun, and the drama less emotionally upsetting. Well, maybe.
To be sure, we might get more Beach Bingo-type things than Ironweed. Both are fine films, though one is better suited for winter, while the other is more suitable for summer. We like both, but we need them at specific times of the year.
Which films and series should you stream on Netflix beginning May 1? Here are some suggestions. All will entertain you.

WeAreMovieGeeks.com attended the TCM Film Festival in Hollywood over the weekend and as usual, it did not disappoint! The theme of this year’s festival was Grand Illusions: Fantastic Worlds On Film and it was chock full of all the sci-fi, fantasy, and film-noir selections anyone could ask for!
The TCM Classic Film Festival opened April 24th with a 45th Anniversary screening of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back at the Tcl Chinese Theater followed by a conversation with filmmaker George Lucas.
Here’s a wrap-up of what we saw over the weekend.
Superman The Movie (1978)
Guest: Michael DeLuca (WB)
First up was Superman the Movie, from 1978. Starring Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman and Margot Kidder, this is long considered the penultimate Superman movie. And there have been a few since, but none compare with this masterpiece. In attendance to present the film was Michael DeLuca, Co-Chair and CEO of Warner Bros.

The second season of Star Wars: Andor is in full swing on Disney+, and it's been having a solid run so far. It's also returning focus to some locations we haven't seen much in the franchise in quite a while. Andor is set during the years before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, when the Rebel Alliance is still finding its footing and the Empire is testing the bounds of its oppressive power. It'll be quite a while before the thrilling clashes of the original Star Wars trilogy, but the show has laid some fascinating groundwork by introducing one of the key locations from the first film: Yavin 4, the jungle moon where the Rebels make their last stand against the Death Star.
During the premiere block of episodes, Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) was stranded on a jungle moon where he found himself in the middle of a Lord of...

This article contains mild spoilers for "Andor."
"Andor" was already the best "Star Wars" thing in decades when season 2 debuted, but Tony Gilroy's timely political thriller shines the brightest while focusing on the Ghorman storyline in its latest installment. The show not only offers a poignant exploration of politics in the face of fascism, but also of the mundanity of evil and how people become radicalized. In the Ghorman subplot, however, we see the full condensed story of the rise of a larger resistance against the Empire. While we've previously seen rebellions like the one on Ferrix in season 1, we haven't seen the formation of an organized revolution like the one on Ghorman -- until now.
What makes this so tragic is that we already know the Ghorman Resistance will fail, because it is, quite literally, orchestrated by the Empire, courtesy of your favorite evil "Star Wars" power couple.

Hayden Christensen returned to Star Wars in 2022, reprising his role of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, with a gut-wrenching performance as the tormented Sith Lord in the series Obi-Wan Kenobi. The rematch of their Mustafar duel with his former master, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), immediately made the list of the most iconic lightsaber battles. Vader's confession at the end, claiming to be the one who "killed" Anakin and thereby relieving Obi-Wan of the burden, was a work of art.
Following Obi-Wan Kenobi, Christensen also featured in Ahsoka. Anakin completes his padawan's, Ahsoka Tano, training while she is stuck in the World Between Worlds, and later appears as a Force Ghost.

Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith Re-Release North America Box Office: Surpasses Captain America: Civil War ( Photo Credit – Amazon Prime Video )
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is performing spectacularly at the box office in North America despite the new releases. Looking back, Saw Gerrera was always waiting for "Andor" to arrive. One of the last new Star Wars characters created by George Lucas himself, Saw debuted in season 5 of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and returned much older and more paranoid in "Rogue One," played by Forest Whitaker. Saw has always been a favorite among a certain subset of fans, bringing an intensity and radical revolutionary sensibility that's often missing in Star Wars. But the writing of "Andor," which embraces that same sensibility throughout, is where the character has really been able to shine.
Saw's appearances in "Andor" season 1 primarily showcased his ideology as a revolutionary leader, and that's mostly true so far in season 2 as well. But in addition to fantastic monologues about the cause, "Andor" season 2 also finally gives us an explanation for the complicated breathing apparatus Saw uses in "Rogue One."
By the time we meet him in that film,...

If you are just getting into the Star Wars universe now after all these years, “Much to learn, you still have.” For starters, you may be wondering why the green Jedi Master the entire fandom loves to bits and pieces speaks the way he does. Well, it was a well-calculated decision on George Lucas and the team’s part, and they have a pretty good reason why.
Yoda is one of the most powerful and wise Jedi Masters in the galaxy far, far away. He talks in that funky, backwards-sounding way, all while dropping some deep and mystical advice for those around him. So, the question is, ‘Speak like this, why does he?’

Star Wars’ Yoda talks in a linguistic technique known as anastrophe, where the usual word order gets flipped around for emphasis or style.

This articles contains spoilers for the second arc of the second season of "Andor."
Senator Bail Organa from Alderaan has been a storied figure in the "Star Wars" mythos from the very first installment in 1977, when Princess Leia Organa sent her holomessage recording to Obi-Wan Kenobi in his exile on Tatooine. It was the galaxy's most desperate hour: Bail asked Leia to retrieve Obi-Wan Kenobi and invite him back into the fold of the Rebellion and bring the Death Star plans to the Rebel base. But Darth Vader captured Leia, and made an example out of Alderaan by using the Death Star to turn it into space dust. Bail Organa met his tragic end among the Alderaanian citizens during that explosion, and was never seen on screen in the 1977 film.
The Bail Organa character wasn't actually seen in the flesh until 2002's "Attack of the Clones," when he was played by actor Jimmy Smits.
