People close to President Joe Biden hid the extent of his decline, new reporting shows. Free from fears that sharing the truth might help elect Donald Trump, they are finally coming clean to journalists. Had they spoken up earlier, maybe things would look different. A new book makes the argument that the 82-year-old’s refusal to address his waning capabilities or accept defeat was a critical factor in Trump’s path back to power.

“I have two almost 4-year-olds, and I’m quite powerful and influential in certain circles, but not with two 4-year-olds,” says Joel Edgerton. “Kids run their own country, in a way.”
Edgerton’s been thinking a lot lately about those nascent years before entering adulthood thanks to his latest project, The Plague, which looks at the complicated and occasionally terrifying social dynamics of kids — specifically adolescent boys.
The feature debut of director Charlie Polinger, the film is set in the world of a competitive water polo summer camp, focusing primarily on the dynamic within a group of 12- and 13-year-old boys who have ostracized one camper because he has “the plague,” a nasty-looking case of eczema. One camper, Ben (Everett Blunck), struggles between his desire to help the outcast camper and his worry about incurring the wrath of the larger group. In the film, Edgerton plays the well-meaning if ineffective water polo coach.

President Joe Biden failed to recognize George Clooney during a fundraiser he hosted for him last year.
On June 15, 2024, Clooney co-hosted a record-breaking $28 million fundraiser for Biden in Los Angeles.
According to an excerpt of the new book Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, written by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson, the then-president “appeared severely diminished” during the event.
Tapper and Thompson wrote in the excerpt that Biden looked “as if he’d aged a decade since Clooney last saw him, in December 2022.
“He was taking tiny steps, and an aide seemed to be guiding him by the arm,” they mentioned.
“It was like watching someone who was not alive,” one Hollywood V.I.P. recounted, according to the excerpt. “It was startling. And we all looked at each other. It was so awful.”

Winners of the 2025 Drama League Awards were announced today in a ceremony hosted by Emmy-winning NY1 reporter Frank Dilella at the Ziegfeld Ballroom. In a competitive year for theater awards, both Maybe Happy Ending and Sunset Boulevard added important feathers to their caps on their march to the Tony Awards.
Nicole Scherzinger took home the Drama League’s highly coveted Distinguished Performance prize for her radical reinterpretation of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. Actors can only win this catch-all performance award once in their careers.
The winner of this award repeats that victory at the Tonys more often than not. Last year, Sarah Paulson won the Drama League before clinching a Tony win for her role in the play Appropriate. Other recent Drama League winners who went on to win a Tony in the same year include Danny Burstein (Moulin Rouge!), Bryan Cranston (Network), Glenda Jackson (Three Tall Women), Ben Platt...

Ralph Fiennes to play President Snow in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
Ralph Fiennes, coming off his Oscar-nominated turn in Conclave, has taken a major role in Hunger Games prequel Sunrise on the Reaping. He will play President Coriolanus Snow, the authoritarian leader of Panem. The role was played as an older man by Donald Sutherland in the 2010s Hunger Games films and as a young man by Tom Blyth in prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. This will of course be Fiennes' second time playing the iconic villain from a massively popular young adult book franchise; he previously played Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies. "We wanted to honor Donald Sutherland by having one of this generation’s greatest actors play President Snow 24 years before Katniss Everdeen entered the arena," producer Nina Jacobson said in a statement announcing Fiennes' casting.

During the first “Hot Topics” segment on Friday’s (May 16) episode of The View, the panelists (sans Whoopi Goldberg) discussed the new book Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, which was written by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson. Alyssa Farah Griffin brought up a shocking claim made in the book: Joe Biden didn’t recognize George Clooney at a June 2024 fundraiser the actor was co-hosting while the former president was running for a second term. Griffin expressed how flabbergasted she was by the story, which prompted Joy Behar to quip, “Well, he looks different lately.” The audience roared in laughter, and Behar stood by her comment. “He does!” she confirmed. Behar introduced the topic of the book by playing a video of Tapper admitting that it was tough for him to get Democrats to speak on the record.

Julia Roberts, secret genre star that you are. While her A-list origins aren’t quite as rooted in schlock horror as the likes of George Clooney or Jennifer Aniston, she’s been more willing than most mega superstars to get down and dirty with the genre over the years. Flatliners is an absolute classic, and last year’s Leave the World Behind is one of the most successful Netflix originals ever.
However, one of her earliest genre roles was a massive box-office success that would trigger a decade of imitators. We all know what I’m talking about. Remember how in the 1990s, domestic thrillers were all the rage? The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Single White Female, The Good Son, and every film of their ilk targeted perennial social fears in a rapidly changing world. Can’t trust your roommate or new nanny, and definitely not your child star offspring.

The action sequel The Accountant 2, which sees Ben Affleck reprising his role as autistic action hero Christian Wolff opposite returning co-stars Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and J. K. Simmons, is climbing an important box office chart. The Accountant 2 opening weekend was underwhelming, with a $24.5 million domestic gross seeing it debut at No. 3 behind the second weekend of Sinners and the 20th anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. It also had a harsh 61.3% drop during its sophomore weekend, but it has since leveled out and continued to climb the domestic chart.
Per The Numbers, The Accountant 2 has hit a domestic box office total of $53.6 million, just ahead of its fourth weekend in theaters. This is enough for it to surpass the $52.6 earned by George Clooney's 2023 rowing movie The Boys in the Boat and the $50.1 million earned by Luca Guadagnino's 2024 tennis drama Challengers,...

Update, with additional figures Broadway reached a major post-pandemic milestone last week, with season-to-date box office receipts of $1,801,023,860 for the 2024-2025 season surpassing the same week of the record-setting pre-Covid season of 2018-2019.
The figure is in no small part due to the massive weekly box office tallies of star-driven productions such as Good Night, And Good Luck, with George Clooney; Othello, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal; and Glengarry Glen Ross, starring Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr. The former two production have routinely grossed in excess of $3 million per week, a remarkable number for Broadway plays (with remarkable ticket prices as well – premium tickets can cost upwards of $800 per seat).
Glengarry Glen Ross, while not hitting the $3M heights, typically grosses in excess of $2M, as does the much-revitalized Wicked, a long-running musical that received a big resurgence in popularity with the release of the hit movie version.

Former President Joe Biden did not recognize George Clooney at a June 2024 fundraiser, according to an upcoming book from CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson.
The 64-year-old actor reportedly greeted the 82-year-old former President of the United States backstage before the fundraiser, arriving after a 3-day trip to Italy for the G7 conference.
The president appeared “severely diminished, as if he’d aged a decade since Clooney last saw him in December 2022,” the authors wrote, as featured in an excerpt in the New Yorker.
“You know George,” the assisting aide reportedly told the president, gently reminding him who was in front of him.

When Joe Biden arrived at a heavily promoted, record-breaking fundraiser in Los Angeles last year, he didn’t appear to recognize one of the star co-hosts of the event: George Clooney.
The moment was detailed in Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s new book, Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, to be published next week.
In an excerpt in The New Yorker, Tapper and Thompson detail the scene at a pre-fundraiser clutch, as Clooney and Julia Roberts, another co-host, entertained high-dollar donors while waiting for Biden to arrive.
They write that the President said “thank you for being here” to guests as he shuffled past them. “Clooney felt a knot form in his stomach as the President approached him. Biden looked at him. ‘Thank you for being here,’ he said. ‘Thank you for being here.'”

If you’re from out of town (or even a New Yorker who normally avoids the theatre district like the plague), securing coveted seats to blockbuster musicals, plays, and other live shows on Broadway can be confusing. But with a bit of planning, it’s more accessible than ever to buy Broadway tickets to some of the most successful shows — like Hamilton, Wicked, and Chicago, to name a few.

Many stars come to mind when you hear the phrase, ‘aging like a fine wine’. The likes of George Clooney, Paul Rudd, Keanu Reeves, and Jeff Goldblum are the first to cross our minds. But some simply don’t age. Tom Cruise falls in that category.
Don’t let the fact that he’s over 62 years old fool you into thinking that Cruise is going to give himself a rest. As the final entry of the Mission: Impossible franchise comes ‘reckoning’, Cruise has yet again reminded fans of the old adage, ‘age is just a number’.

In 1992, when Trey Parker and Matt Stone were in their early 20s and attending the University of Colorado at Boulder, they famously assembled a very crudely animated (and gleefully profane) Christmas special called "The Spirit of Christmas." It featured a violent battle royale between Frosty the Snowman and Jesus Christ, as witnessed by a quartet of foul-mouthed youngsters. That led to Parker and Stone putting together a 3-minute live-action short, a fake trailer for a jokey flick called "Alferd Packer: The Musical." Alferd Packer, as many may know, is one of only four people in American history to be convicted for the crime of cannibalism. He confessed to having to eat his fellow comrades to survive while they were lost in the Colorado mountains in 1874. "Alferd Packer: The Musical" was a gloriously tasteless riff on Packer's crimes.
Reactions to the fake trailer were so positive that Parker and Stone...

Brad Pitt was once kidnapped in public, and the police did not do anything despite getting several calls from concerned citizens. It happened in 2002 when he was simply lining up to buy at Pink’s Hot Dogs in Los Angeles. Everything went by so fast that the actor didn’t have time to run.
He was violently carried off and thrown inside a van. Some bystanders went to call the police while one guy tried to approach the vehicle to save Pitt. It was truly an intense encounter straight out of a movie scene, and that’s clearly what it was—a scripted skit.

It was the early 2000s, and prank shows were one of the most popular types of entertainment. What happened to Brad Pitt would be extremely controversial by today’s standards, but during those times, it was simply for fun.

It’s unclear how it would work. No one knows what it would cost. And it’s anyone’s guess whether it will ever actually happen. But in the days since Donald Trump floated the seemingly crazy idea of slapping tariffs on foreign-made film and TV productions, something unexpected has started to happen in Hollywood: befuddlement has turned into murmurs of approval — at least in certain corners of the industry.
“This is the first time I’ve ever seen this kind of divide,” says Diego Mariscal, an IATSE member who runs Crew Stories, a popular online forum for below-the-line workers. “People I’m talking with are saying, ‘At least Trump’s doing something. When’s the last time a president even tried?’ He’s creating a conversation.”
That conversation, like so many sparked by Trump, is sorting itself along sharply drawn class lines. While the executive class is almost universally...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thunderbolts*is quickly on its way to surpassing what some may consider one of DC’s worst superhero movies ever. The latest MCU installment, led by Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, and Wyatt Russell, could pass 1997’s widely-panned Batman & Robin on a list of The Numbers’ top 100 superhero movies.
Thunderbolts*, from director Jake Schreier, easily took the top spot during its debut weekend and has quickly earned $86 million at the domestic box office. During its theatrical run 28 years ago, Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, starring George Clooney and Chris O’Donnell as the titular characters, earned $107 million.
At its current pace, there’s a high chance that this weekend’s haul could put Thunderbolts* ahead of the DC film that also starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze, Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy, Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl, and Michael Gough as Alfred Pennyworth.

Like love and marriage, comic book movies and cameos are an institute you cannot disparage. Marvel might be the trailblazer in this regard, finding unique and innovative ways to shoehorn everyone and their uncle into a movie or TV show, but DC isn't immune from turning its audience into a real-life Pointing Rick Dalton meme. Yet, for every great appearance, there's also a flubber -- a moment that flops harder than "Joker: Folie à Deux" did at the box office.
Take a look at 2023's "The Flash" as an example. With all its multiversal potential, minds raced to the infinite possibilities, imagining the chances of seeing Christian Bale's Batman return for a triumphant third act cameo or even seeing Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern fly in for a visit. Instead, it turned into a CGI horrorfest where the tributes to past heroes angered -- rather than captivated -- viewers. It...
