The news comes about two weeks ahead of the show's freshman season finale, which is scheduled to drop on May 21. New York City is set to battle a plague of rats in an upcoming survival horror.

Lionsgate and producer Paul Brooks have partnered on worldwide rights to the new project — entitled, simply, “Rats!” — with Lionsgate set to launch sales in Cannes.

The deal follows the studio’s previous collaboration with Brooks on the 2022 horror film “Prey for the Devil.”

“Rats!” comes from director Todd Strauss-Schulson, whose credits include the Rebel Wilson rom-com “Isn’t It Romantic,” comedy slasher “The Final Girls” and buddy stoney sequel “A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.” Strauss-Schulson was also behind the viral melancholic short film “Rat,” shot in the lockdown of 2020.

The casting report comes via Variety, who confirmed that Anthony Michael Hall will appear in Season 2 of Wednesday. His character remains a mystery. It hasn't been revealed if Hall will play a long-running part, or if he will guest star in the second season. Younger audiences likely know Anthony Michael Hall best for starring in Prime Video's hit action series, Reacher, starring Alan Ritchson. Hall played Zachary Beck in the recent third season.

Steve Buscemi and Daniel Brühl are set to attend Slano Film Days, which will focus on the work of actors this year. The festival, which was set up two years ago by former Sarajevo Film Festival chief Miro Purivatra, runs June 17-21 in Slano, Croatia. Losing a TV character you’ve spent years with hits hard, and can often change the course of the series moving forward. Deadpool & Wolverine actress Dafne Keen has signed up to star in 'raunchy' movie The Marshmallow Experiment. Keen will be co-starring with Johnny Knoxville in the coming-of-age comedy.

Deadline reports Sam McCarthy (Dead to Me and Goosebumps: The Vanishing) will lead The Marshmallow Experiment as a sexually-frustrated teenager who unplugs from the internet after a disastrous sexual encounter with his dream girl. The teen is then guided on a journey of self-discovery by a talking gorilla, all while avoiding his influencer parents and rogue AI avatars.

McCarthy and Keen will be joined in The Marshmallow Experiment by Knoxville, Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), Steve Buscemi (Wednesday) and Josh Lucas (Yellowstone and The Forever Purge). Pablo's Richard Goldgewicht will direct alongside Matt Hamilton and Abe Frank, with Virgin River star Jayce Barreiro and Graem Luis (Night Comes) on board as producers.

The film stars Dafne Keen (Deadpool & Wolverine), Sam McCarthy (Dead To Me), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Johnny Knoxville (Jackass), Josh Lucas (Ford Vs Ferrari) and Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) in the story of “a young internet addicted teen (McCarthy) who, after bombing in bed with his dream girl, embarks on a wild, cringe-filled journey of digital detox…with influencer parents, rogue AI avatars, and a talking gorilla as his guide, The Marshmallow Experiment tackles intimacy, identity, and growing up unplugged—in the most online way possible.”

The US-Canadian co-production is written and directed by Richard Goldgewicht (Pablo), Matt Hamilton and Abe Frank. Pic is produced by Big Picture Cinema Group’s Jayce Barreiro and Graem Luis (Night Comes). Also producing are Richard Goldgewicht and Ruth Bornhauser of Core Story.

The Only Living Pickpocket in New York is an upcoming drama film from T-Street Productions starring John Turturro as a career pickpocket forced into a high-stakes situation. The film has recently added Tatiana Maslany (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), Steve Buscemi (Wednesday), and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) to the cast.

Per Deadline, Esposito, Buscemi, and Maslany have joined the cast, though their roles remain undisclosed. Olivia Wilde is set to direct a new feature after her provocative 2022 film Don’t Worry Darling. This time, she’ll be helming a date night comedy that was inspired by the Spanish film Sentimental. This new film will be titled The Invite and has been adapted by Rashida Jones and her writing partner Will McCormack, whose credits include Celeste & Jesse Forever. The Invite will be about “a couple [who] invites the neighbors over, igniting an evening full of unexpected twists and turns, revealing deeply repressed emotions and unexplored sexuality.”

Variety reports that Wilde has her cast with Seth Rogen starring in the film alongside Edward Norton and Penélope Cruz. The production has already started in Los Angeles. The comedy will be produced by Ben Browning of FilmNation Entertainment, along with Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison, and David Permut. Additionally, Annapurna’s Head of Film and Television, Patrick Chu, is on board as an executive producer.

According to Variety, Bill Hader — of SNL, It: Chapter Two, Barry, and comedian-turned-actor-turned-auteur fame — is gearing up to make a Jonestown series at HBO with Bloodline and Damages creator Daniel Zelman.

Per Variety's reporting, Hader is in the frame to serve as co-showrunner and co-writer on the prospective series, with the multi-hyphenate also being eyed to star in the show and direct episodes, too. Variety has learned exclusively that Hader and Daniel Zelman are currently developing an HBO series centered on Jim Jones and the infamous events at the Peoples Temple Agricultural Project, a.k.a. Jonestown.

According to an individual with knowledge of the project, Hader is being eyed to potentially star in the show as well. Hader is co-writing with Zelman, with both serving as co-showrunners and executive producers. Hader would also direct should the project move forward.

News of the series comes not long after a Jonestown movie served as a central plot point in an episode of the critically-acclaimed Apple TV+ series “The Studio.” Neither Martin Scorsese nor Steve Buscemi are involved in the HBO project at this time.

Jones founded the Peoples Temple in the 1950s and established what became known as Jonestown in the 1970s in the nation of Guyana.

After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for a second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered. It eventually became the most-watched original series ever on the streamer, with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things Season 4, Dahmer, and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.

Season 1 received 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She became just the third Latina ever to be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

They gave fans everything, including new first-look images and the official release date in August and September for the highly anticipated follow-up season.
