Some horror comedies take a long time before they get their due, criticized upon their initial release only to grow into cult classics. This was not the case with "The Lost Boys," however. Audiences knew pretty much immediately that they had a quirky little gem on their hands. It stars Corey Haim and Corey Feldman as Sam and Edgar, a pair of teenage would-be vampire hunters who have to act fast to prevent Sam's older brother from turning into a vampire himself. With a broody nighttime aesthetic and lusty legacy that serves as a perfect counterpoint to the film's inherent sense of humor, "The Lost Boys" is now regarded as a light-hearted vampire classic, bringing the aristocratic children of the night into a bit of California sunshine.
In the nearly 40 years since its release, some of the actors from "The Lost Boys" have gone on to have impressive careers in Hollywood,...

Deserts are inherently horrific. One of the most inhospitable places on earth, these wastelands are characterized by the lack of rainfall needed to support human life. Barren hills stretch out as far as the eye can see while dangerous animals wait for nightfall to come. The brutal sun bakes a hard and crumbling ground which offers little protective shade. Without adequate supplies or training, death is a near certainty. And that’s just the landscape.
Deserts are also filled with a variety of predators — from poisonous reptiles to sinister humans masquerading as innocent travelers. Joshua Erkman’s brutal A Desert features two such fiends who torment a photographer on a cross-country road trip. Exploiting the desert’s extreme isolation, they drag Harold (David Yow) into the depths of depravity, indulging in lawless possibilities.

One of the key creatives on ABC’s The Rookie just spilled the beans on one of his favorite dynamics in the show. The Rookie will air its Season 7 finale this Tuesday, May 13, and after being on the air since the start of this year, fans have to say goodbye to Nathan Fillion’s John Nolan. Fortunately, it won’t be for too long – The Rookie has already been renewed for Season 8, and although lacking an official release date, it will likely return to ABC next year, if not sooner. The Rookie showrunner Alexi Hawley recently sat down for an interview with ScreenRant and revealed that the dynamic between Angela (Alyssa Diaz) and Nyla's (Mekia Cox) mothers has been his favorite:
"I would watch that show every week. I love that dynamic. Those two actresses are brilliant and really understood the assignment. Those scenes are a joy."

Plenty of A-listers have gotten their start in the world of horror, from Kevin Bacon in Friday the 13th to Jennifer Aniston in Leprechaun. But did you know that Bradley Cooper also starred in a horror film early in his acting career? He plays the lead role in Ryûhei Kitamura’s 2008 film Midnight Meat Train, an adaptation of Clive Barker’s 1984 short story of the same name.
In the film,
A struggling photographer meets the owner of an eminent art gallery in pursuit of a successful career. His obsession with uncovering humanity’s dark side as his debut project draws him to a serial killer who preys on late-night subway commuters.
Cooper plays that struggling photographer who quite literally goes into the belly of the beast searching for a new subject to impress his rich benefactor. I promise you have no idea where this film is going, and it is one wild ride.

Scarlett Johansson was behind the camera last year on her feature directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, fixated on the performance of title star June Squibb when she had a vision.
“I said to [one of my producing partners, Jonathan Lia], ‘If I do my job well and do what I’m supposed to do, I can imagine June walking the Croisette at age 95, starring in this incredible dramatic role that she’s so amazing in’ and I thought that would be my dream,” the veteran A-lister, 40, explains of being selected for the Cannes Film Festival. “To have it actually become a reality is amazing. I’m still processing it.”

Kevin Bacon is one of the few actors who sees what they want and goes after it. It's not uncommon for him to state what production he'd love to join or how he'd love to continue working on a project. Currently, the Golden Globe Award winner is the leading man in The Bondsman. The Amazon Prime Video series is an action horror that follows Bacon as Hub Halloran, a bounty hunter who comes back from the dead with a second chance at love, life, and an underrated music career. He's a guy who aims to right his wrongs, which many viewers could relate to.
Although Halloran gets to live again, he discovers that his second life is not all sunshine and rainbows, as it has a demonic twist. With only eight episodes in the first season, there's still a lot of room for more gore, music, and possessed ex-lovers. Now,...

After a long search for a distributor, The Toxic Avenger — a remake of the 1984 cult classic — is coming to theaters this summer. The movie stars Game of Thrones veteran Peter Dinklage as a janitor who gets superpowers and mounts a revolting one-man war on crime. How revolting? The movie is not rated, but a warning label shared on the film's Twitter/X page states that we're in for "ultra violent/toxic content, piss play, mutant nudity, and gnarly theater fun."
Not only is The Toxic Avenger 92% rated on @RottenTomatoes, it’s going to theaters Unrated.

Fans have been waiting a long time to see writer/director Macon Blair’s remake of the Troma cult classic The Toxic Avenger (watch it Here), which wrapped filming way back in 2021 and unveiled a teaser trailer near the end of 2023, around the time it had its world premiere screening – but we won’t have to wait much longer. At the start of the year, it was announced that Cineverse had acquired the distribution rights with the intention of giving the film a wide release, and we’ve since learned that they’re aiming for an August 29th theatrical release. Three years ago, the Motion Picture Association ratings boards gave the film an R rating for “strong violence and gore, language throughout, sexual references and brief graphic nudity”… but never mind all that. The Toxic Avenger remake is being released unrated, and new promo images reveal exactly why it’s going out unrated.

Bloody Disgusting and Cineverse have saved Macon Blair’s The Toxic Avenger from sitting on a shelf somewhere in Tromaville, releasing the film nationwide on the big screen two years after it originally premiered to rave reviews at Fantastic Fest back in 2023. They said it was unreleasable, but we’ve seen the demand and we’re bringing it to Everyone on August 29!
A fresh take on Troma’s cult classic, The Toxic Avenger will be released in theaters fully Uncut and Unrated, and we’ve got two pieces of promo art that double down on the promise of everything from ultra violence to toxic content, mutant nudity, splatter and piss play!
Not a single moment has been trimmed out of The Toxic Avenger for its big screen release, and we’re hoping you’ll show the fuck up and support unrated horror on August 29, 2025!
We hear there’s another superhero movie coming out this Summer.

I’ll admit, I had low expectations when I began watching the new modern American western, Broke. For one, I wondered if Wyatt Russell, a familiar face from Marvel, had the stamina to carry a film like this, especially since he’s in every physically and emotionally rugged scene.
I soon discovered that my preconceived notions were wrong—dead wrong. Broke is a thoughtful, even lyrical, suspenseful, and deeply moving film. Anchored by a performance from Russell that proves he can do more than play a depressed, overstimulated superhero or rely on simple, charming charisma, Russell’s turn sneaks up on you with profound effects.
The story of Broke follows True Brandywine, a bareback—yes, you read that right—bronc rider. True goes full Dominic Toretto mode, feeling most alive in those few seconds in the great mountain West taming a wild mustang rather than building a traditional life for himself.

May brings a wave of new content to Netflix, with stories ranging from laugh-out-loud comedies to edge-of-your-seat thrillers. There’s a little something for everyone, whether you’re into big-name casts or hidden gems.
I’m pumped about this month’s mix of originals, classic movies, and a live event to close things out. Let’s dive into some of the standout titles hitting the service.
‘The Four Seasons’ (May 1)
Tina Fey co-created and stars in ‘The Four Seasons,’ a comedy series remaking the 1981 film. Alongside Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, and Will Forte, Fey explores three couples whose group vacations get messy after a breakup. It’s funny and heartfelt.
Debuting on May 1, this show nails friendship and love with a great cast. The humor and drama make it a solid watch for comedy fans looking for something fresh.
‘The Royals’ (May 9)
‘The Royals’ is an Indian romantic drama starring Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter.

The month of May means different things for different people but it definitely promises the start of summer. While there is quite a lot of competition in the world of streaming due to the many options to choose from, Netflix remains the most known and popular. Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney, Peacock, Apple TV, Paramount and provide good competition but it still reigns supreme.
Apart from its worldwide reach and popularity, it is also the home of several films, shows, limited series, reality television content and more. Here’s what new releases Netflix is adding to its already vast library. From the Twilight film franchise to documentaries, live events, iconic movies and lots more.

A limited series of mystery comedy/drama set in the scenery of the holiday season and a star-studded cast might be the right treat to set the viewers up for the upcoming summer holidays.

Our time on this planet is agonizingly brief, which, among other bummers, means that we'll leave loads of great movies unwatched. Ultimately, you've got to prioritize which filmmakers and types of films matter the most to you, while, and this is crucial, making sure you block out time to screen movies that are well out of your wheelhouse. Dive into the wilds of experimental cinema. Explore the many modes of African filmmaking. Acquaint yourself with Italian neorealism. The broader your horizons, the better you understand the lives and struggles of people in places you may never personally visit. As Roger Ebert once noted, movies are "empathy machines." Also, you might just find a new favorite filmmaker along the way (like I did with Chadian director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun via The Criterion Channel).

Who could forget when Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward teamed up in the iconic '90s monster horror flick Tremors? Words of War has everything you want in a film about a David-like journalist fighting a Goliath. The movie begins as a story of someone trying to make a name for herself after spending her entire adult life in the shadows of her profession. What it ultimately reveals, however, is not a blurred line between good and evil but one that is sharply defined with dire consequences.
Words of War follows the history of a Russian reporter and how their notable reputation became cemented in history, believing that a job is more than a job but a profession with a higher purpose. That’s even if her peers, family, and friends knew their reporting came with a toxic warning label. The result is a conventional and standard telling of an incredible real-life figure.

Get in the golf cart, we’re going to Cliff House.
The trailer for new limited series Sirens invites us to a mysterious seaside estate, where a star-studded cast of characters resides. There’s Michaela Kell (Oscar-winner Julianne Moore) — the lady of the manor and wife of billionaire mogul Peter Kell (Kevin Bacon) — Mrs. Kell’s loyal assistant Simone DeWitt (Milly Alcock), fellow wealthy neighbor Ethan Corbin III (Glenn Howerton), and the many hardworking staff members who make Cliff House run.
However, Simone’s older sister Devon DeWitt (Emmy-nominee Meghann Fahy) isn’t impressed by the monied “Easter egg” people milling about the waterfront mansion in Sirens. Instead, as we learn in the video, anxiety is rising for Devon as she tries to figure out if the enigmatic Michaela is Simone’s savior — or a “monster” threatening to drag her sister into unknown depths.
“Michaela and Simone are friends. They’re trauma-bonded.

Kevin Bacon has cropped up just about everywhere over the past five decades, from raucous teen comedies to Hollywood blockbusters ("Apollo 13") and challenging indie projects. Indeed, his roles have been so varied across so many genres that a whole game emerged called Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon (you can try to beat it at The Oracle of Bacon). Yet there was a period in the 1980s when it wasn't going so well for the hard-working actor, to the extent that he thought one of his best-loved movies might totally tank his career.
That movie was Ron Underwood's "Tremors," a light-hearted yet suspenseful throwback to the classic creature features of the 1950s. Set in the tiny Nevada desert town of Perfection (Population: 14), Bacon starred as Val McKee, one half of a hapless handyman duo with his best friend, Earl Bassett (Fred Ward). Look, actors have to eat too, and all the arthouse and award season favorite projects they do aren't always going to pay the bills. To put it simply, just as we all do jobs that we don't necessarily feel personally invested in, actors can also take on work primarily for the associated salary. This distinction doesn't take away from the work itself, and certainly doesn't diminish our own feelings for it, but it serves as an amusing reminder of the value of the dollar. If anything, it helps humanize the actors involved with the knowledge that they too have to make their own ends meet.
Whether it's celebrated, award-winning actors or beloved character actors looking for the next project, regardless of the material, all actors play a role only for the money in their career. Many of these actors have been forthcoming about their primary motivation for joining a project,...

There's something about documentaries that tell the stories of real-life cults and cult leaders that continually fascinate me. I'm always drawn to watching those tales to see just how deep some people will be in something they believe in. And while Sirens on Netflix is not a documentary, it seems like the boss at the center of the tale is very cult-ish, and Meghann Fahy's character needs to get her sister away from her!

Kiefer Sutherland can play the protagonist in the story, like Jack Bauer from 24 or Tom Kirkman from Designated Survivor. And he can easily slip into a cruel antagonist, like David from The Lost Boys or Freddie Lee Cobb from A Time to Kill. The variety of roles in Sutherland’s filmography, spread over more than four decades, speaks volumes about the actor.
However, there is one role for which we never appreciated Sutherland enough. In 1992, Sutherland took on the supporting role alongside the likes of Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, and Kevin Bacon in A Few Good Men. From slaying dragons to slaying a whole new vibe, a former House of the Dragon star just hit the upgrade button, and it’s not on HBO this time. She’s swapping fire and blood for something way messier (and way more fun) over at Netflix.

Netflix’s official trailer for Sirens sets up the dysfunctional relationship between sisters and introduces an incredibly wealthy woman who might be the head of a cult. It’s hard to tell if that’s true, but the trailer definitely sets up the possibility. Hey, hey.
Oscar winner Julianne Moore stars as the charismatic Michaela Kell, and Milly Alcock plays Simone DeWitt, the sister who’s fallen under Michaela’s spell. Meghann Fahy stars as Devon DeWitt, the sibling who doesn’t understand the appeal and Kevin Bacon plays Peter Kell, Michaela’s billionaire husband. Filling out the cast are Glenn Howerton as Ethan Corbin III, Bill Camp as Bruce DeWitt, and Felix Solis as Jose.

“Devon thinks her sister Simone has a really creepy relationship with her new boss, the enigmatic socialite Michaela Kell.

The upcoming limited series Sirens, starring Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, and Kevin Bacon, washes ashore on Netflix on May 22, bringing with it mystery, mythology, and more. Check out the trailer here.
Set over Labor Day weekend, Sirens follows Devon (Fahy) on her journey to a lavish island where mansions and hydrangeas abound — and where she comes to realize that the surrounding waters are murkier than they first appear. “I like to talk about Devon as the metronome of the show,” series creator and executive producer Molly Smith Metzler (Maid) tells Tudum. “She sets the pace, and especially the comedy. Casting Meghann was a gift from the heavens.”
“This story has a lot of teeth,” Smith Metzler continues. “There are real moments of drama, and it’s going to make people uncomfortable. Operatic is a word I...
