- DirectorHenry SelickStarsDanny ElfmanChris SarandonCatherine O'HaraJack Skellington, king of Halloween Town, discovers Christmas Town, but his attempts to bring Christmas to his home causes confusion. My favorite animated film. It's the most entertaining piece of media I've seen to date and I've rewatched this thing dozens of times (Yeah, I have no life). It's so original and I just immediately fell in love with the expressive cast. Danny Elfman's phenomenal soundtrack and the refined stop motion animation techniques elevate the movie even further. The story is great and the movie never fails to bring a smile to my face...an impressive feat considering how many times I've watched it!
- DirectorChris BuckKevin LimaStarsTony GoldwynMinnie DriverBrian BlessedA man raised by gorillas must decide where he really belongs when he discovers he is a human.A rare film that keeps getting better each time I watch it. It's probably the most exciting movie to watch on this list imo, and seeing Tarzan learn what it means to be a true, righteous man over the course of the film is just amazing. Phil Collins' fantastic soundtrack and the stunning assimilation of both 3D and 2D visuals just heightens this movie further. The only real plot hole is Tarzan's loincloth, but...we probably don't want to know the answer to that one.
- DirectorBrenda ChapmanSteve HicknerSimon WellsStarsVal KilmerRalph FiennesMichelle PfeifferEgyptian Prince Moses learns of his identity as a Hebrew and his destiny to become the chosen deliverer of his people. An underrated and overlooked masterpiece in my eyes, and the best DreamWorks has to offer. Yes, I like it even more than the great Shrek! Absolutely barbaric of me, I know. But I just love this retelling of the famous book of Exodus. The portrayal of the relationship between Moses and Ramses is executed excellently. The innovative visuals and impactful soundtrack elevate it even more.
- DirectorGary TrousdaleKirk WiseStarsDemi MooreJason AlexanderMary Kay BergmanA deformed bell-ringer must assert his independence from a vicious government minister in order to help his friend, a gypsy dancer. After watching the opening sequence, you just know that this movie is going to be something special. This film has my favorite soundtrack from any Disney movie as well as my favorite story and execution from the House of Mouse. Quasimodo is a tragic hero who you just can't help but route for and Frollo is a compellingly twisted antagonist who really adds layers to the movie. Definitely one of Disney's underrated gems.
- DirectorTakashi KawabataYukihiro MiyamotoAkiyuki ShinbôStarsAoi YûkiChiwa SaitôEri KitamuraMadoka Kaname used to be a normal girl living happy days of her life. This all ended when she sacrificed herself in order to save other magical girls from the utterly cruel fate that awaited them. Unable to let her memories of Madoka die, Homura Akemi continues to fight alone in the world that Madoka left behind for humanity in order to see her smile once more.A fantastic movie sequel to my favorite anime of all time. Shaft does an excellent job with the animation, Yuki does phenomenal work with the sound, Gen composes a brilliantly engaging story, and Homura makes a lot of fans hate her. But don't worry Homu, you're still best girl imo!
- DirectorGary TrousdaleKirk WiseStarsPaige O'HaraRobby BensonJesse CortiA prince cursed to spend his days as a hideous monster sets out to regain his humanity by earning a young woman's love.Besides the whole beastiality undertones, the message of this movie is great! It's honestly a magical experience, and is one of the most enjoyable films I've seen. Belle and Beast have a fantastic dynamic, and Gaston is my favorite Disney antagonist. He also inspires me to eat five dozen eggs each morning...haven't actually attempted it yet though....but I'm inspired nonetheless!
- DirectorRoger AllersRob MinkoffStarsMatthew BroderickJeremy IronsJames Earl JonesLion prince Simba and his father are targeted by his bitter uncle, who wants to ascend the throne himself.Generally regarded as the greatest Disney film of all time. It's definitely one of my favorites, and the fist half when Simba was young is one of the best written works of fiction I've witnessed. And I like how the second half is handled and shows Simba's progression as a character and the relationships that he forms. It looks good, sounds good, and has a satisfying conclusion. The final 10/10 on this ranking.
- DirectorNathan GrenoByron HowardStarsMandy MooreZachary LeviDonna MurphyThe magically long-haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is.This movie stars my absolute favorite Disney hero and heroine. Flynn and Rapunzel have such a fantastic dynamic, and they're honestly my favorite Disney couple. Despite having an engaging story, this a more character driven narrative, and I believe that it works exceptionally well.
- DirectorAndrew AdamsonKelly AsburyConrad VernonStarsMike MyersEddie MurphyCameron DiazShrek and Fiona travel to the Kingdom of Far Far Away, where Fiona's parents are King and Queen, to celebrate their marriage. When they arrive, they find they are not as welcome as they thought they would be.Memes aside, Shrek is actually an incredibly well written and entertaining tale. And this sequel does the near impossible for animated movies: It takes the positives from its predecessor and improves upon them! The new characters were fantastic, and the old ones, especially Shrek, became even more fleshed out. There are so many great scenes in the film from the dinner scene to the "I Need a Hero" segment. It's just a great movie.
- DirectorJohn LasseterStarsTom HanksTim AllenDon RicklesA cowboy doll is profoundly threatened and jealous when a new spaceman action figure supplants him as top toy in a boy's bedroom. The first ever feature length 3D animated movie, and it still holds up wonderfully to this day! This was movie that started it all for Pixar. Woody and Buzz are my favorite characters conceived by the studio. The film's premise is phenomenal, and its execution even more so.
- DirectorRich MooreStarsJohn C. ReillyJack McBrayerJane LynchA video game villain wants to be a hero and sets out to fulfill his dream, but his quest brings havoc to the whole arcade where he lives.I just love video games, and an entire movie about them is right up my alley! This movie has such a creative premise, and it delivers a truly memorable story about friendship and accepting yourself. It has a colorful cast of characters as well as vibrant animation. And Vanellope is just so sweet!
- DirectorLee UnkrichStarsTom HanksTim AllenJoan CusackThe toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, and it's up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren't abandoned and to return home.I had high expectations for this movie, and it was able to surpass every single one of them. Toy Story 3 boasts masterful storytelling with a great cast of characters. This is also the only animated movie that has ever made me cry. It's ending is just that powerful. Or maybe I'm just one of those more emotional guys...hmm...
- DirectorRon ClementsJohn MuskerStarsTate DonovanSusan EganJames WoodsThe son of Zeus and Hera is stripped of his immortality as an infant and must become a true hero in order to reclaim it.Greek mythology has always fascinated me, and seeing the rendition of the classic tale of Hercules mixed with a great cast and score results in quite the enjoyable ride. Of course, it should really be Heracles instead of Hercules, but...who cares if it's not accurate to the source material? I mean, they're both fiction, so it shouldn't really matter, right?
- DirectorAtsuko IshizukaStarsAlexandra BedfordJessica BooneRicardo ContrerasAdaption of the sixth Light Novel of series, it follows the story of two new characters, Riku and Schwi, during the events of the Great War prior to the Ten Covenants.I love NGNL, and this movie prequel combined a lot of the fun components of the original like vivid animation and hilarious characters and threw in an actually pretty deep and dark plot. It was a perfect combination of intensity and hilarity that had me constantly engaged throughout. Plus it shows that Wall-E isn't the only movie that can convincingly show that robots can learn to love. Take that Pixar!
- DirectorAndrew AdamsonVicky JensonStarsMike MyersEddie MurphyCameron DiazA mean lord exiles fairytale creatures to the swamp of a grumpy ogre, who must go on a quest and rescue a princess for the lord in order to get his land back.Somebody once told me that they didn't like Shrek. Now I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed, but I knew they were wrong, so I had them rewatch it. They were lookin' kinda dumb when they realized that yes, Shrek is in fact an awesome movie. You just gotta accept the fact that Shrek is an all star!
- DirectorRon ClementsJohn MuskerStarsScott WeingerRobin WilliamsLinda LarkinA kind-hearted street urchin and a power-hungry Grand Vizier vie for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true.Aladdin is a magical ride. Genie is probably the best support character in Disney and really heightens the success of the movie. Jafar is also quite entertaining and adds his own flare to the show. Aladdin and Jasmine get the bronze metal from me for being my third favorite Disney couple. The Arabian setting was a nice touch.
- DirectorTomoyuki ItamuraYukihiro MiyamotoMasahiro MukaiStarsAoi YûkiChiwa SaitôEri KitamuraAs the truth behind the girls' contracts with Kyubey is revealed, Madoka has to make the ultimate decision to either see those she love the most die before her eyes or to sacrifice her life as a normal girl and help out her friends in need.A movie retelling of the second half of muh fav animu. The only reason why it isn't number 1 is because the actual anime does a superior and more complete job of telling this epic story...and yeah, if you haven't guessed yet, I'm a fan of Madoka Magica. Shocking, I know.
- DirectorTim BurtonMike JohnsonStarsJohnny DeppHelena Bonham CarterEmily WatsonWhen a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her.Another fun and vibrant stop motion film by Tim Burton. It's incredibly enjoyable to watch and has great character interactions. You know as I kid, I was always afraid that I would end up like Victor and completely mess up my vows at my wedding. Jokes on me though, because I still haven't even gotten a girlfriend yet! Ha, ha...ha...
- DirectorYukihiro MiyamotoTatsuya OishiAkiyuki ShinbôStarsHiroshi KamiyaTakahiro SakuraiMaaya SakamotoPart 3 of Kizumonogatari (Wound Tale) trilogy, based on a light novel by Nisio Isin. The Shinobu vs Araragi fight scene is one of the most creative battle sequences I've ever seen. Also, the Araragi x Hanekawa conversation that took place before the final battle was...well, it's one of the greatest character interactions I've seen. The Monogatari series just excels at writing good dialogue.
- DirectorRon ClementsJohn MuskerStarsJodi BensonSamuel E. WrightRene AuberjonoisA mermaid princess makes a Faustian bargain in an attempt to become human and win a prince's love.Yeah, Ariel can come across as a little spoiled. But the poor girl doesn't even know what a fork is, so let's cut her some slack! Plus she's just curious, which is a good thing! And you know what else is good? This movie. Definitely one of the finest Disney princess stories.
- DirectorTatsuya OishiAkiyuki ShinbôStarsHiroshi KamiyaTakahiro SakuraiMaaya SakamotoFollows Araragi's encounter with the vampire Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade and his journey back into humanity from being a vampire.I've watched a lot of the Monogatari series, but I wasn't truly impressed with it until I watched this movie. You can really feel the tension and the atmosphere is great. Shaft also masterfully used animation to enhance the presentation of the narrative. Shinobu is absolutely adorable and deserves all the head pats. Character interactions in the movie are amongst the best I've seen in anything ever.
- DirectorBob PersichettiPeter RamseyRodney RothmanStarsShameik MooreJake JohnsonHailee SteinfeldTeen Miles Morales becomes the Spider-Man of his universe and must join with five spider-powered individuals from other dimensions to stop a threat for all realities. The sheer amount of care and detail put into the unique visuals alone is enough to make this great. Throw in a bunch of quirky Spider-People from across the multiverse like a pig and a loli and you get quite the epic super hero movie. And that's not ever touching on the great development of Peter and Miles.
- DirectorJoel CrawfordJanuel MercadoStarsAntonio BanderasSalma HayekHarvey GuillénWhen Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for adventure has taken its toll and he has burned through eight of his nine lives, he launches an epic journey to restore them by finding the mythical Last Wish.Who is your greatest fearless hero? I didn't realize it was Puss in Boots until watching this film! Stylistically beautiful, this film actually gives some great development to the titular cat. The supporting cast was also surprisingly amazing all around. Super fun to watch!
- DirectorJohn LasseterAsh BrannonLee UnkrichStarsTom HanksTim AllenJoan CusackWhen Woody is stolen by a toy collector, Buzz and his friends set out on a rescue mission to save Woody before he becomes a museum toy property with his roundup gang Jessie, Prospector, and Bullseye.A great sequel. Viewers are introduced to interesting new characters and get to see the development of beloved originals. The existential plot revolving around Woody was surprisingly adult and quite intriguing. It's amazing how so many movies have characters far more wooden than Woody.
- DirectorTony BancroftBarry CookStarsMing-Na WenEddie MurphyBD WongTo save her father from death in the army, a young maiden secretly goes in his place and becomes one of China's greatest heroines in the process.I wish I could go through a Disney training song sequence and come out all beefed up and strong after 3 minutes, but reality is often disappointing...anyway, Mulan is a great heroine, and the action packed story really leaves an impact.
