How 'Tootsie,' Woody Allen, and More Influenced 'The Big Sick'3 of 9
Woody Allen
"I like the naturalistic look of Woody Allen’s comedies. They probably had the biggest influence on me in terms of the look of the film, most notably Annie Hall, Manhattan, and Hannah and Her Sisters. His world feels very real. It’s a very cluttered vision of New York and that’s how I think visually too.
"So in The Big Sick, whether we’re in the comedy club, their apartments or the hospital, I want it to feel like – if you crawled into the movie – you could walk around the corner and something is happening. I want it to feel like somewhere real."
