Although a feeling of mutual animosity grows between Curtis and Sally following the sale of Sireson, Sally's father John becomes friends with Curtis and hires him to train the horse for the Brookside steeplechase. John also offers Curtis a one-half financial interest in the horse. Sally, meanwhile, begins training her horse, Princess, to beat Curtis in the competition. The rivalry between Sally and Curtis continues until Sally's horse takes a fall and is disqualified from the race. A romance soon develops between Curtis and Sally as they work together to train Sireson. Just before the big race, Jack, home on a furlough, overhears gangster Harold Matthews offer Curtis money to throw the race. Curtis refuses the bribe, but Jack leaves before he hears Curtis' response. Jack's suspicions of Curtis are further raised when it is discovered that someone had been tampering with the trailer used to transport Sireson. Convinced that Curtis' motives are impure, Jack insists on riding the horse himself. Curtis, however, refuses to allow Jack to ride Sireson, and throws a punch at him to prevent him from taking the reins by force. Curtis then mounts Sireson and rides him to an easy win. After the race, Jack offers Curtis his apology, and, realizing that Curtis and Sally are in love, gives his blessing to their romance.
- Saloon owner Barnet wants the Indian reservation land on which he knows there is gold, and organizes a gang, aided by some renegade Indians, to raid and terrorize close-by settlers, hoping to arouse them to drive off the Indians. Rancher Jerry Randall, accompanied by school teacher Nancy Cooper, sets out to defeat the plot. In order to win the loyalty of the innocent tribe members, Randall masquerades as a legendary friend of the Indians, El Latigo.

In spite of this, he gambles with her boss, and when he loses, he writes bad checks. In order to avoid jail, Armstrong gets involved in diamond smuggling.

The sheriff's son, Tommy (Jack McClendon), arrives home from college and is given his dad's job, not knowing he was a crook, and swears to get the man who killed him. Weber tells Tommy that Red killed his dad and Tommy sets out to get Red.
- Molly Wood arrives in a small Western town to be the new schoolmarm. The Virginian, foreman on a local ranch, takes a shine to her, and vows that he will make her love him. The Virginian's best friend Steve falls in with bad guys led by Trampas. The Virginian catches them cattle-rustling. As foreman, he must give the order to hang his friend. Trampas gets away and shoots the Virginian in the back. Molly nurses him to health and falls in love with him. They plan to marry, but on their wedding day Trampas returns, looking for trouble.

- When Cash Darwin is released from prison after serving five years for racketeering, he vows revenge on Charles Putnam, the crusading owner of the Clarion , the newspaper that obtained the evidence to convict him. While Cash is traveling to the Clarion building, Putnam is visited by reporter Jim Parker, who is working undercover as a member of Mike Reardon's gang in order to expose Reardon's deals with corrupt city officials. Reardon, who is infuriated by Putnam's campaign against him, orders his men to rough up the Clarion 's street vendors. Cash arrives at the Clarion building as one such raid is occurring and he aides a young boy, Tommy Blake, who is being attacked. Tommy is impressed with Cash's quick fists and thanks him. Cash then goes to Putnam's office and threatens him with a gun, after which Putnam advises him to turn on the radio so that no one will hear the fatal shot. Cash acquiesces to Putnam's request for a last meal, and the pair go to a restaurant with Cash's pal, T-Bone. There, Reardon's henchman, Kinsella, misinterprets Cash's sitting with Putnam and warns him not to take sides in the war by helping out Putnam. Cash is further aggravated by police who question him about carrying a gun, but Putnam alibis him by saying that Cash works for him. Cash's gratitude does not dissuade him from his revenge, however, and he realizes that the best way to ruin Putnam is to destroy his beloved newspaper. Putnam offers Cash the job for real, and he accepts. As time passes, Cash and Tommy become pals, and Cash hires a bunch of toughs to protect the Clarion vendors. The paper pays the men one hundred dollars a week, eighty of which Cash pockets for himself and T-Bone. Cash takes Tommy in after the dog he gave the boy gets him kicked out of his lodgings, and he does his best to become a real father. At the same time, he makes a deal with Reardon to destroy the Clarion from the inside, even though he tells T-Bone that he is going straight. Cash reveals Jim's identity to Reardon, thereby sealing the reporter's fate. When Cash returns home, he discovers that Tommy has found out about his grafting money from the paper, and the boy bitterly denounces him. After Tommy storms out, Cash plants a bomb in the Clarion 's new printing presses, then goes to Putnam's house for dinner. There, Putnam gives him a photo showing him being threatened with a gun by Cash in his office, which was taken when Cash turned on the radio as Putnam suggested. Cash realizes that Putnam is a square shooter, because he could have used the photo to have Cash re-incarcerated, and he rushes to stop the bomb. Reardon's men have arrived first, however, and have wounded Tommy while starting a fire. Cash takes Tommy to the hospital, settles with Reardon and Kinsella in a fistfight, then returns to the Clarion . After learning of Jim's death, Putnam enters the blaze to retrieve the evidence Jim collected, and his life is saved by Cash. Cash then disables the bomb but is caught in the fire. Later, Reardon's gang is arrested, and Putnam assures Tommy that Cash died a true hero.
- Nikki, a humble fisherman, is the exact double of the egotistical prince who rules his village. The Prince's courtiers cajole him into believing that he has magical powers while they rob his subjects with unjust taxes. One night, after becoming infatuated with Nikki's girlfriend Olala, the Prince dispatches his troops to abduct her. Nikki follows them to the palace where he assaults the prince, assumes his identity and banishes him from the castle. Nikki then initiates a new, just administration while the real Prince finds contentment in Nikki's humble life. Upon his impending marriage to Olala, Nikki sends for the Prince and they revert to their true identities. Nikki then marries Olala and the Prince marries his promised bride, the daughter of the Grand Vizier.
