Angel has just moved to America from France after getting married to her sweetheart, John. Although she tries her best to be a loving and responsible housewife for her new husband, she frequently runs into problems, usually due to misunderstandings stemming from her poor command of the English language.

For an upcoming local election, Angel tries to register to vote, but the registrar tells her she's ineligible, but can still participate by allowing her house to be used as a polling place. She does, but makes it into a party.

Romantic kids Nancy and Harold have a falling out, supposedly because he's smitten with Angel. The Smiths discuss it with them separately, but mishandle it, talking themselves into dates with the teenagers, and altercations with parents.

Angel invites a fired woman to come home with her. At the Office, Johnny can't explain missing funds. The woman brings along her servant family, so when the company bookkeeper pops in, Johnny can't tell how he can afford a butler and maid.

When a contractor threatens changes to zoning regulations in order to build an apartment house, Angel sets up a table in the street to collect signatures on a petition.

Susie is offended that Angel is dressed up, cheerful and waits on Johnnie during breakfast, while she's in an old housecoat and curlers , and won't lift a finger for George. She convinces Angel that husbands aren't worth the extra effort.

When George and Susie Carpenter have their house remodeled, Angel invites them to be house guests for a few days, much to Johnny's displeasure. They prove to be incompatible, driving each couple to plan to go to a hotel.

To get out of accepting an invitation from his boss, Johnny says Angel's mother is visiting. When the boss then insists on meeting her, Mrs. Spiegelman is talked into being an unlikely stand in for Mama.

Angel and three friends form a club to enter contests, planning to split the spoils if they win; but their prize turns out to be a house given away by Angel's husband's boss.

Angel is hired to assist film star James Garner in perfecting some French dialogue for a role in an upcoming movie. She's given a bit part to play in it, but it goes to her head, and she "goes Hollywood."

The "goat dog" is an animal that enjoys eating lawns, clothes, and furniture. He arrives as a wedding gift for Angel just as her neighbors are feuding over property development.

Johnny is to take a Business trip to Paris, so Angel becomes a women's club's guide so she can get there too. But when his plans are canceled, she must convince the women that Paris would be a terrible place for their holiday.
