Set years ago in the era of the Joseon Dynasty, the story follows a young police officer named Namsoon (Ha Ji-won) who, along with her fellow officers, discovers a counterfeit ring operating out of the area they've been assigned to protect. However, as the criminals aren't just printing up their own money, they also plan to use it to topple the economy and take down the government. As her investigative work continues, Namsoon soon makes the acquaintance of a young man known only as Sad Eyes (Gang Dong-won), for the way that he looks out at you from underneath his hair - he doesn't say much, but he's got that look and that's all it takes to pique Namsoon's interest in him, even if she shouldn't be thinking those thoughts about someone she might have to toss in jail. Of course, Namsoon can't deny her feelings even if the object of her affection belongs behind bars, and it's not long before she's starting to act on her emotions.

"As One" is the cinematic retelling of the first ever post-war Unified Korea sports team, hastily formed to participate in the 41st World Table Tennis Championships in 1991. Following the North Korean mid-air bombing of Korean Air Flight 858 in 1987, a Summit was held between North and South Korea to defuse the extreme tension on the peninsula. The summit ended with the agreement to form a unified Korean sports team; and table tennis, being highly visible and world-class in both countries, was chosen as the symbolic unifier. Summarily, the first-ever unified North-South team under the simple aegis "KOREA" was formed to compete in the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships in Chiba, Japan. "As One" recounts these dramatic events where especially two world-class players who had only ever met across the table as die-hard opponents must suddenly become a true partners and teammates in time for the biggest stage of the World Championships. Putting aside their individual ambitions, these women have to summon every ounce of grit and grace to defeat a dominating Chinese team that is vying for its 9th consecutive World Championship title.

Young-mi (played by the fresh and wonderful Ha Ji-won) lost her parents when she was still young, but despite such hardship, she manages to live her life cheerfully. Helping her out is a mysterious benefactor. When the time comes for her to attend university, this secret patron pays her tuition and other fees. Young-mi wants to meet this man some day and thank him, but she never manages to glimpse more than his long shadow - and from this shadow she comes up with his nickname, DADDY LONG LEGS. A few years later, after Young-mi graduates from school, she gets a job writing for a morning program at a radio station. On her first day at her new job, she gets a present from DADDY LONG LEGS. Young-mi loves her job and the people she works with. She even starts to fall in love with Jun-ho (Yeon Jeong-hun), a researcher at the station. Meanwhile, Young-mi begins looking for an apartment near her work. With the help of a producer, Young-mi finds an apartment where a former co-worker from the station used to live. In the apartment is an old, abandoned computer that the co-worker used to use. On the computer, Young-mi finds an unsent email, with the Subject line: The Letter I Could Not Send - a sad tale of unrequited love. Touched by the tragic letter, Young-mi vows to help the woman who wrote it, just as the mysterious DADDY LONG LEGS once helped her. But, to Young-mi's great heartache, she soon discovers that the man her former co-worker loves is Jun-ho. Young-mi had solemnly promised herself to help this woman any way she could, but her love for Jun-ho is growing, too...
