Gopala Davies is a South African Indian actor and director specialising in Film and Theatre. He holds a BA Hons (Cum Laude) in Drama and Film Studies.
Gopala is the recipient of The National Arts Festival Award for Best Director (2014) and a Standard Bank Ovation Award (2015) for his intermedial production Barbe Bleue: A story about madness. He is best known for his role as Mohammed in Tom CoashÃ¢Â€Â™s Cry Havoc, directed by Alby Michaels (2013), in which he performed alongside David Dennis, and Brenda Radloff. Gopala can also be seen in the SABC 3 TV series High Rollers performing alongside Justin Strydom and Fezile Mpela. He features in various TV commercials such as King Price Insurance, Standard Bank Ã¢Â€Â“ Auctioneers, SABC Editorial Policy, SANRAL Ã¢Â€Â“ Be in the Know and the 2015 Loeries Promo Campaign. Gopala also plays the character Adam in the Short Film Lilith: Genesis One which won the Film category at the 2015 PPC Imaginarium Awards.
Gopala has been a regular participant at The National Arts Festival performing in Boys in the Backroom (2008), Three Wall Temple (2009), Like Show Business (2010), The History Boys (2011), Cry Havoc (2013) and directing Barbe Bleue (2014/ 2015). In 2011 he toured South Africa with Pieter ToerienÃ¢Â€Â™s Naledi Award winning The History Boys (directed by Alan Swerdlow).
Gopala has lectured in various tertiary institutes and is currently researching the construction of time and space in intermedial performance, as the basis of his MasterÃ¢Â€Â™s degree.
