A Life Beloved: Deaconess Alexander
Born to slaves and raised in rural Georgia, Anna Alexander embraced the passion for education instilled in her by her parents and dedicated her life to teaching. Through her strong Christian faith and a thirst for justice she educated hundreds of children in the impoverished community of Pennick, Georgia and slowly depopulated the area by giving them access to new lives. For her commitment to community she was ordained as the first and only black deaconess in the Episcopal Church.
