Sorry not for me
27 January 2020
Weird, ridiculous. I didn't recognise the Dickens' story apart from the inclusion of some of the characters. Three stars for the actors and their characterisations; none for the script or story. It's supposed to be a comedy but there was no laughter in the cinema in fact some people walked out half way through. I was tempted but thought it must get better; it didn't!

A lovely Christmas story
18 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I can't see why the "professional" critics don't like this film. It's a lovely story with an unexpected twist. It started a little slow but the characters are all likeable and there is some humour dotted about. Certainly worth a look

Red Joan (2018)

Inspired by a true story
29 April 2019
This film was inspired by the true story of Melita Norwood a Russian spy. However it bears no resemblance to her life apart from the fact that Joan passed secrets to the Russians regarding the atomic bomb. Having said that it was a good film with excellent acting. The film starts with Joan being arrested for espionage and kepps recounting her life during the 1930s and 1940s. There are love stories attached to this film the latter one I found endearing and which had a happy ending. I would recommend..

Worth a look for dog lovers
11 February 2019
A lovely film telling the story of a dog who loves her owner. I've only given it seven stars because of the doggy dialogue which I felt was unnecessary as the story and scenes spoke for themselves.

Awful
11 February 2019
I've joined this site specifically to review this film as it is truly awful! I've given it 1/10 because of the superb acting by the three lead actors. Firstly until half way through the film I thought Olivia Coleman was in a supporting role: she was rarely in it up until then. No plot, not much of a story. And as for being a comedy! I don't think so! The only mildly funny part was the scene shown on TV when Queen Anne shouts at the boy servant on the way out of the room! The "music" drones on through the film, the "c" word was used unnecessarily several times and I couldn't see the point of the ridiculous scene where tomatoes were thrown at the tubby nude man! Queen Anne's husband was alive at this time but wasn't given a mention and there is no evidence in history to suggest that any of the lead characters were lesbians. Like a few other reviewers I sat through the film becoming more and more annoyed: what a waste of money.
