Crop And Save
A brilliantly unique movie with endless unseen twists and turns
Its not often I go to see subtitled films but given the reviews I thought and I had to see this one and I am so glad I did.
It's fantastically different and a great story that really draws you in but never stops surprising you with a laugh or shock around every corner.
A great film and well worth anyone's time to go and see it.
Good story just some surprisingly questionable acting
This film tells a good and powerful story that you would like to think of as in the past but is probably sadly still quite relevant.
I thought the story was well done if a little confusing and maybe a little slow at times. However I was surprised given the cast that some of the acting wasn't great.
Still a film very much worth seeing though.
Like a Boss (2020)
A few laughs but otherwise a very low rent chic flick
I didn't have high expectations of this film from the trailers and thankfully so. Given the cast of the film it is a shame that they were let down by what can only be described as a dreadful and totally implausible story line.
There are a few slap stick laughs and to be honest they save this film getting the lowest possible marks.
I can only think this film is aimed at female millennial audience but to be honest if it is it's an insult to them to pitch it so low.
Just Mercy (2019)
Incredible story, incredible acting and incredible film
I was blown away by this film. I didn't know too much about it before I saw it so it was an amazing surprise that it was such an outstanding film.
The plot is based on a true story that is both sad and uplifting at the same time. I thought the directing and acting were top notch and it is really brought home when you see the photos of the real life people at the end.
I am shocked more hasn't been made of this film, it really is a contender for film of 2020 already.
A different and brilliant way of filming makes for a fantastically intense movie
Most war films are intense but this goes to a whole new level in its own way. The film being set in one long shot is very unique but works brilliantly.
The pace of the movie is incredible it goes past in the blink of an eye and at the end the first thing I thought was 'I have to see that again'.
Because of the pace of the film it doesn't allow for a lot of character development outside of the main characters but that doesn't detract at all.
A great film and a brilliant bit of directing.
Interesting true story just a bit slow
It's interesting the history you pick up watching unusual films like this, especially as a non American and it's gives then an aspect that makes them very worth seeing.
I felt it was a good plot and reasonably acted, with maybe a little too much over acting at times that was unnecessary.
The film is reasonably short but I still felt it dragged in places, maybe again trying to be over dramatic.
With a watch if you have the spare time but maybe don't go out of your way.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Great concept and a funny film
It's excellent to see a film that is really unique in concept and delivery, especially when it contains great dark humour, which seems rare today.
The film has a good story and some of the acting is excellent in it. There are plenty of twists and turns and there is constant humour with some great characters.
I felt at times it was a little slow and some of the humour a little obvious and at times childish but still a film very much worth seeing.
The Gentlemen (2019)
A return to form for Guy Ritchie with a darker gangster movie
This isn't lock stock or snatch but they are a high bar and this is still a great film. Ritchie almost made it another ten out of ten but this just lacked some of the brilliant humour and unforgettable characters of his big hits.
The film has a good plot with plenty of twists and turns, and the pace is very good. The cast of actors isn't let down and there are some brilliant performances, not least by Hugh Grant.
It is a film that warrants a second watch and it's great to see Ritchie back to near his best as he does the London Gangster movie like no one else.
Stick too close to the stage play to work as a film
I think of you have seen the stage play, which is really just a collection of poems and songs put together, then you are far more likely to like this. If you have not seen the stage show it must be baffling, as there is no attempt to make the story into a film.
Even given this, there are some pretty disappointing performances. Given the greatness of some of the songs and some of the singers there was a recipe for an amazing soundtrack but sadly it fell well short of that.
It is worth a watch if you understand it is just a collection of songs and some dancing but sadly don't expect the blockbuster it was meant to be.
Playing with Fire (2019)
Just take it for what it is, 90 minutes of silly fun
This is a John Cena film that isn't aimed at a high brow audience. It is 90 minutes of stupid slap stick laughter that is harmless fun.
The plot is simple and quite obvious and the pace is good. It doesn't try to be anything it isn't and the acting is aimed at being a parody of itself.
Well worth a watch if you don't expect it to be anything more than it is. Just relax and have a laugh!
Spies in Disguise (2019)
James Bond meets men in black for kids
Quite a good fun romp for kids with a very good soundtrack. Will Smith obviously plays will Smith but as usual that makes the film.
The animation is pretty good and makes for a fun kids film. The pace is quick in places but does stall at other times. As above the soundtrack is a good added bonus as well.
However having the morality rammed down down everyone throats does detract a bit for me but should not stop anyone watching the film.
Not a bad film but the same old formula
All good things have to come to an end but I can't help feeling this series has more that run its course.
This is a pretty good movie with some good humour and nice tie backs to the past, and possibly if they weren't being judged against the original trilogy they would be seen as a pretty good trilogy in their own right.
However in the end the story and plot of this movie is, in general, quite predictable and it feels like a handle had been cranked and another star wars script had popped out, using the same well trodden path, trying and failing to recreate the magic of the originals.
Go see it but don't expect anything more than just another new star wars movie. It's time to move on.
The difficult middle film is still ok
It's always hard to pitch the middle film in s trilogy especially one as high profile at this but this film does ok even a few years on.
The characters develop and the story is still good although it does jump the shark at times on the survival aspect.
It's sets up the last film but maybe lacks a bit of climax on reflection but maybe only after the last film will we really know.
Has stood the test of time well
I saw this again as part of s triple bill on opening night of episode 9 and I was pleasantly surprised how well this film has held up.
Although maybe not the best star wars film out has a very good recipe of characters and story line to set up the beginning of the end of the series.
Although there are still some characters I don't think are great and some questionable acting is still a great film.
Little Women (2019)
Never read the book, didn't know the story but my god I loved this film
If Saoirse Ronan doesn't win an Oscar for this then I will be shocked. It's a brilliant film on all counts but her performance is the icing on the cake.
The film is a real emotional rollercoaster with the story, plot and pace all on point. All the acting is very good and it completely absorbs you.
My only reservation is knowing nothing about the book before I may have been taken by the story rather than the film but if I am the film isn't half bad anyway.
Gorillaz: Reject False Icons (2019)
Brilliant fly on the wall documentary of a totally unique band
This documentary of basically behind the scenes footage and excerpts from concerts during their 18 month tour in 2017 and 2018.
I was at one of those concerts do it was great to see this footage of the your and see just the incredible amount of artists that have played a part in this amazing music collective.
There is no commentary during the documentary but for fans the whole film is a real treat.
StarDog and TurboCat (2019)
Almost certainly the worst film of 2019
Having seen over 125 films this year I honestly think this must be the worst of them and I love animation films.
The plot and story are flimsy at best and the characters lack virtually any empathy.
I am shocked this was even made and released,I can't see how anyone ever thought this was a good idea.
Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
Same comedy as the first reboot but a better film
I was really surprised when I saw this as I expected a predictable fall off in the sequel as if normally the case but this was a better all round film than the first.
Of course its a rock film so it isn't high brow humour but we all know that going in.
The plot is good and the pace is fast. It's generally more of the same but well worth a watch
Motherless Brooklyn (2019)
Am old style detective movie with some great acting
This is a real throw back movie that tries to recapture the old black and white New York detective moves of old.
The modern twist is the main character suffering from an illness that isn't understood then but if now.
It's a good plot that twisted and turns with some great acting from a very good cast. My only grumbles were it was maybe a bit too slow and a bit too long, and the ending was a bit of a damp squib but it's still a good movie.
Not as cute and cuddly as I remembered but still a classic
Just saw the remastered 35th anniversary showing and was a little surprised as the film has a lot more graphic violence than I remember.
The film is still great though and has stood the test of time really wel, although it's still a very 80s film. The funny bits are still hilarious and even the more gruesome boys are funny.
Still well worth a watch just remember if you have young kids is not all about cute and cuddly gremlins.
Queen & Slim (2019)
A modern but very slow and inplausible bonnie and Clyde
Not a bad idea for a movie but in the circumstance of the plot was just too slow. Had it been fast and snappy it could have been a good film.
Or was also annoying that the film was just so unbelievable. I don't want to spoiler the film but as the action roles along the plot just becomes less and less credible.
Shame really, it could have been a good film
Last Christmas (2019)
Stick with it, it's gets better as it goes along
This is a bit like Bridget Jones meets love actually. It's a feel good film for Christmas and although it's a bit of a slow start it does improve.
The story isn't bad although it's a bit obvious. It's not the deepest plot but I guess it's not meant to be.
My main gripe about the film is that they really under utilised the Wham and George Micheal back catalogue. Although they use the songs they are almost background music for the majority of the film and seem like they were almost just there as a selling point, which is a real waste of brilliant music.
Blue Story (2019)
As a 50 year old man even I thought it was a good film
This film is aimed at a demographic that really isnt well represented at the Cinema and even on main stream TV. The teen to 25 range who over most generations feel isolated from the people older and younger are well represented here.
This is a novel and clever film which mixes a very good plot, good acting with a unique idea of adding grime songs within the scenes to explain the story.
The film is raw and shocking but I think still probably shy's away from the real brutal truth of life on the streets in modern inner City London but for good reason as it doesn't set out to be totally shocking, it just wants to tell a story.
At the core is a good film with a good story and made a different way, for even just that it is worth a watch.
Charlie's Angels (2019)
So bad it's almost brilliantly ironic but even fails on that
There are some real star names in this film and I do wonder how much they got they paid to be a part of it because it certainly isn't career enhancing for anyone.
The acting and some of the scenes are so bad they are almost comedy gold, in fact the film out could almost be a parody but instead it's just a film that is very close to TV film standard.
Sadly it's hard to see this being anything but a flop.
Knives Out (2019)
A good murder mystery with a few good laughs thrown in
Makes me wonder why we don't get many murder mysteries anymore, hopefully after this we will.
An all star cast with some very good acting make this a film will work watching for a good plot with plenty of twists but also sprinkled with comedy right through out.
I don't want to give anything away but I felt it came up just s little short of a classic but I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone.
