Survivor: Absolute Banger Season (2023)
Decent season. Too much backstory and drama.
Overall, an enjoyable season! Some good moves, fun moments, nice players.
However, I'd love to see more skill and strategy and less backstory of people. Every single person was great and they all have inspiring stories. But that's not the main reason people watch this show and it gets too soapy, kind of flat, and with few exceptions, not exciting from a gameplay and challenges perspective.
New challenges (preferably more physical as well) would also make this show repetitive, and would prevent some players from training on specific clasic challenges, which would benefit players that are more well rounded and are better at multiple types of challenges.
When selecting the cast, backstory should't be relevant. Everyone should be worthy enough to participate in the show, even if their story doesn't seem so unique and inspiring. I'm sure unique stories would naturally show up anyways, and it would even be more inspiring as they wouldn't feel cherry picked. Excellence is also inspiring and this is what's Survivor used to be.
Squid Game: The Challenge: One Step Closer (2023)
No strategy in this game! Pure chance for most players.
278 gets all my admiration! She was one of the few who tried to play with a strategy!
At the bridge game, it makes sense for the players with small numbers to convince other players to play the 50/50 chance strategy. For the rest of the players, however, it doesn't make any sense to agree!
Same for the die game. They should have tried to have an alliance instead of counting on luck (2 people passing the die between themselves and targeting other people would have worked).
Boring and annoying! If you wanted random chances you should have asked for a random pick of a winner in episode 1 and done. If you're playing the game, play for real! You're playing for 4 mil dollars! Any strategy that complies with the rules it's fair play and it shows more respect to the game and to the audience than a random pick.
