Erotic Stories (2023)
The SBS of Old is back
Everyone kind of knows what SBS is famous for, and to me after the success of their previous drama titled Safe Home, we are served with this "Erotic Stories", not really what we were expecting this year, but hey? It's SBS haha.
Now I won't spoil much but I really enjoyed episode two "The Deluge", Kate Box, Danielle Cormack and Emily Havea were all brilliant in this episode, and it was so great to see Kate Box again after Deadloch and Wentworth, gosh Kate is such an incredible actor and deserves the entire world.
Also enjoyed the episode "Powerful Owl", what a good episode.
If anyone from the Wentworth fandom gets to see this series, please watch this, you will enjoy it more then you know.
Every episode is important to a different demo and it shows, but it's truly something that gives the audience what they need and want to see in the realm of sex, love and boundaries
Also, more SBS like this again please.
C*A*U*G*H*T (2023)
Ben O'Toole the most underrated actor here
Wow just wow. Ben O'Toole is the most underrated person in the show, just his performance alone and how he can be heartbreaking with his emotional scenes and when he needs to be funny he is. IMO one of the most underrated people here.
This is a brilliant dramedy that has a good premise and great actors on a mission to give this show life. I also think Lincoln Younes as Albhanis is a riot and the character giving a "rambo" vibe is what I live for lol.
Someone also please slap that gum out of Matt Fox's face cause it's like watching a cow chew its cud and bring it up numerous times. That's really my only gripe about this lol.
Late Night with the Devil (2023)
This is brilliant
I managed to see this during The Sydney Film Festival when it was on and it was one of the most underrated films of the night.
David Dastmalchian is brilliant in this role and the other actors in this gel and make this one of the films of the year.
As an Australian it is good to know when can at least make some good horror films, and you'd never know that this was made on a minimal budget it never shows and I hope it gets to make a big return..
I have nothing but good things to say about this because of just how good it was. I always see things at film festivals and seeing this was a highlight of the SFF and it has MIFF to go. Can't wait for everyone else to see it.
Warnie (2023)
Hot Garbage
If I could write the word "GARBAGE" over and over I would. Because that is what this is. This is tacky in the highest order and we all thought Underbelly Vanishing Act was awful this is just a cash grab of a legend of the game.
It's a pity as well because the "archive" footage if you can even call it that is edited in such a way the "bowling" action used by Alex Williams is awful, maybe should've used a stunt actor who actually played cricket professionally. Alex Williams didn't portay Warnie the way we knew him as a larrakin, his acting in certain scenes looks stiff and it's noticeable in some scenes alongside the actors who had been in the industry for years.
I love a lot of the actors in this, but whoever let them do this, I feel sorry for them, not only did they have the weight of the world on their shoulders, but the script writer Matt Ford? Should never write another biopic again.. and Geoff Bennett? Needs to stop directing "drama events" because they are becoming worse and worse.
Channel 9 should offer a personal apology to the screen legends in this, specifically the actor who played his mother and Marny Kennedy this project was above them and they were the only shining lights to a project where again: The cast had the weight of the world, media scrutiny and a family in mourning to deal with at the same time.
Again, Channel 9 apologise to everyone who appeared in this and be careful with your next "drama event of the year." make sure its not as tacky as this..
Deadloch (2023)
Absolute Chaos
Good to see that Kate Box after Wentworth got this job and I love Alicia Gardiner these types of roles suit her so well.
This is my favourite type of show as it is just glorious chaos as her character Dulcie is trying her best to get on with the investigation but has incompetent police officers and a gungho partner.
I thought I wouldn't like this as the trailer didn't do the show justice and that's most trailers to be honest.
But this is just pure chaos as everyone is doing the one thing they aren't supposed to and it is clearly annoying Collins as Eddie is making things worse and the storyline getting really dark and deep really quickly.
Can't wait to see more.
Safe Home (2023)
The eye of the storm
Wow. There's a lot to say about how this topic of discussion can effect so many lives and who it effects. We think of family violence as name calling or a playful punch on the arm but it is so much more then that.
I watched all 4 episodes and I congratulate the cast and crew who brought this to life it could not have been easy.
Aisha Dee as Phoebe in a world she doesn't understand and trying to make a journo understand what is going on, her depth and emotion to this cannot be understated, she played this to perfection.
The names that were attached to this and when I saw them on screen was like "Oh hey I know them from this light hearted role." that was my first thought with Diana played by Janet Andrewartha from Neighbours, what a return to the screen for her, such a hard role to play someone being controlled by this she played it perfectly.
The intertwining stories and subject matter make it a hard watch but it needs to be watched we can no longer be quiet about Family violence when it out there and not going away.
In Our Blood (2023)
Important Viewing
Wow.... this one... this one is hard to put into words because I knew friends that died from HIV/AIDs during those years and to see how it could be portrayed here was how everyone felt, scared, angry and nervous 'could it happen to me'.
ABC chose to do this and boy did they deliver something that is still a massive threat to everyone, the issue of HIV/aids hasn't gone away, the story to tell is still there and everyone who worked on this did a wonderful job bringing to life.
While I did have a few gripes with some of the acting choices by the actors and the weird placement of the 'music element' this was done so well. It could've done without the singing but it's worth watching how the response was handled, how emotions were at the time and how the world reacted.
Bad Behaviour (2023)
You can't run from the past
I remember seeing the ads for this and thinking "wow this could be bad." but I watched it all in one sitting and it ended up being really good? That was the surprising thing. It was just daring to be different and daring to change the normal of just a 'school drama', the director and cast did a fantastic job at bringing this to life, congrats.
What this shows is that you can never really hide from the past and make sure the future looks safe when its not and unfortunately while everyone else let go of the past Jo couldn't. Jo is the epitome of 'can't let go' and it really shows when she meets the people from her past who have let go their previous lives at the school.
You can run from the past but you cannot hide from it.
Transfusion (2023)
Slow in Places, overall enjoyable
While parts of the film can be slow at times and some scenes drag on for a little too long, it is enjoyable. Well from my end anyway, you may or may not like it and it may not be your favourite type of movie or with the actors you're used to seeing, but the producers gave it one hell of a go
The acting from the kid actors is a little off and someone needs to go back to drama school, mainly the son character who comes across as bland and at time very unlikeable.
Matt Nable? He continues his rise as another broken figure and he really is stepping into his acting more and more with every role he takes on now.
Beat (2022)
Emotional, Powerful and just amazing
First heard of them film when someone on instagram announced they knew someone they knew was going to be in this but had to ultimately withdraw due to the 'goat show' happening in NSW at the time, I held my breathe baited until I saw this.
What an amazing piece this is. Showing the lights and sounds of Newcastle at its very very best. Jye Currie is a tremendous director who brings to light just how confronting the movie can be at times.
The music was just one of the most hauntingly beautiful things to listen to, the emotions of everyone involved was amazing.
Jye if you read this, i look forward to your next project. This is worth watch after watch after watch.

Farewell Ramsay St
A fitting end to 37 years. My thing is "where do the cast go from here"
Especially Jackie Woodburne who has been the heart and soul of the show so many years. I wish everyone who worked on this all the best.
This might be "a show" to some but it really is so much more.

I'm a huge fan of insight, and these interviews are full of personal insights from set. And peoples time on the show.
Cast/Crew nothing is off limits. That's the way it should be.
True Colours (2022)
SBS/NITV Deliver
While it starts off slow and sometimes stays in the slow lane, I found it quiet interesting in the way the communities in the outback deal out their justices.
Rarriwuy Hick certainly held her own in her first lead role, and the cast are brilliant as well.
This being one of SBS & NITVs first commissions into the foray of Aussie drama, I believe whatever we see next from them will be just as good as their first offering.
Give it a go. You might just like it.

A Must Watch
If you see one movie this year or don't go out to see movies often, this one is a must see. Leah Purcell did the short story some incredible justice. The landscape and story are just perfect.
Underbelly: Vanishing Act (2022)
A subdued entry to Underbelly
Always enjoyed Kate Atkinson in Wentworth so to see her as a crim in an underbelly was something new. She delivers a fantastic performance, but pity some of the others just phoned it in.
Gold (2022)
Better Then Some of the Reviews make it out to be
It's a slow burn but it is what it is. Efron holding his own with the elements, sunburn and Susie Porter's accent.
Susie holds her own against someone like Efron and its amazing to see in one of her post Wentworth roles.
Hayes as sneaky as ever.
Give the movie a go, you might just like it?

More Hugo Weaving
The world really does need more Hugo Weaving in TV shows, we have truly missed out. Hugo puts in an award winning performance, so does the entire cast. Beautifully done.

Farewell Wentworth
The show we loved coming to one very fitting end. What do we do now that its over? Watch it again of course.

Wakefield (2021)
Amazing
Re-watched this show at least four times already. Heart-breaking, brilliant and how a TV series around mental health should be. A wonderful look in. Kudos to the cast and crew for this masterpiece.
Amazing Grace (2021)
Its okay.
With the cast which includes Wentworth cast members who gave their ABSOLUTE all on the show, this comes with heart, and while its a little slow at times its pretty good
The Dry (2020)
Sensational
It takes a lot for me to get into a movie these days but I absolutely loved this film. Set in a drought it shows just how willing people are too fight for justice.

Wentworth: The Enemy Within (2020)
Another Great Season Finale
A slow burn for a huge ending. While everyone may not have liked this season but I thoroughly enjoyed S8 and every episode. Episode 10 was of course never going to live up to last season but the acting in this episode was just amazing.
Wentworth: Resurrection (2020)
Wentworth Does It Again!
After last season you'd be hard pressed to find a better episode. But the season 8 premiere just shows how amazing this show is. The new characters with the veterans is just how it is done. You can always expect the unexpected when you watch Wentworth.

Real Life Portrayed Very Well
The Melbourne Gangland war was the bloodiest in any gangland war in Australia, so the cast of course are following what happened during those years. Gyton Grantley, Robert Mammone returning to the roles that made them famous with a stellar cast (new to the Underbelly universe or returning) providing excellent storyline telling, even with the events ripped from the headlines, the cast and crew put their lives at risk to make sure the story was told..
