Monday Report (2004)
Rick Mercer Was Funny...... What Happened?
I had big hopes for this show when it first came on and I was so disappointed. I've watched at least twenty episodes, probably thirty, and have tried watching every year hoping that it would get better but it's just getting worse.
What happened to Rick Mercer? Talking to Americans was brilliant and he was awesome on 22 Minutes but this show just stinks, I have to be honest. Where are the funny jokes and sketches? Why do I want to watch him go on the road and just talk to people who aren't even famous? I've seen him on different episodes go look at bears, get dipped in ice water for a hypothermia experiment, join the army, become a cheerleader, get put in a wind tunnel, talk to street hockey kids in Edmonton and do countless other pointless, boring things that I might enjoy doing myself but definitely don't want to watch him do it. Especially when so many of his witty lines are either not funny or way too rehearsed.
Even when he does do jokes they suck like the headlines bit or "Canada's Ugliest Shed". My friends and I could come up with better headlines than they do on this show. It's like Rick Mercer ran out of good comedy or just got tired or something, maybe he resting on what he already did because it was so awesome he's already done his part. If so who can blame him because he was great before.
This show is lame. I give it 2 out of 10 with the 2 points given to him for what he used to be.
Air Force One (1997)
This movie is decent time wasting entertainment.
The plot is ridiculous and not believable in real life but Harrison Ford is great as the president and Gary Oldman is even better as the terrorist who still comes across as being sympathetic even though he is an evil murderer.
The performances are strong and the script (for an unbelievable Hollywood action summer movie) is very good which makes for an exciting movie in places. The Director who also did Das Boot does a decent job but this isn't exactly Das Boot he's working with.
All in all you will enjoy the movie for the performances and exciting scenes but it's nothing special beyond that and it's one of those movies that doesn't keep you thinking about it.
Royal Canadian Air Farce (1993)
I understand most people hate this show and it is terrible but everyone seems to be blaming the cast. How about the writing? I assume they don't write their own jokes like on most TV shows. The writing is so horrible and stale, they are doing the same jokes they did in 1993 since the first season of Air Farce. This show used to be good but now it's just painfully awful, I feel bad for these people who have to go on TV and read such horrible jokes. But I think if they got new writers the show might still turn around and be funny. I'm not too optimistic about that though. Royal Canadian Air Farce is just sad and disappointing, I like new cast member Alan Park though, he is funny.
A Great Show, But Dated
As a little kid in the mid/late 1980s I loved ALF. Like the other poster here I also liked shows like the Smurfs, Transformers, Thundercats, He-Man, G.I. Joe, Alvin & the Chipmunks, the Muppets and - yes - even those old Marvel super hero shows. But he's right to point out that was all on Saturday mornings. My earliest night-time TV watching memories are of watching ALF. I still remember the first episode where he crashed into Willy Tanner's garage and was found and taken care of. I really loved this show and watched it every week, I was so sad when it went on the air. I watched it again recently though in reruns and it just was not as good, I'm sure I expected too much of it and it couldn't live up to my memories. Still it was a great show and it's still good, especially for family entertainment.
