Ridley Scott's, Alien, was really the first Science Fiction Hour film ever made. It changed cinema and movie making forever. It has spawned numerous sequels and prequels and spin offs. Some of these are good and others not as much. This sequel to Prometheus, an excellent, but too cerebral for most, installment is very, very good. It has excellent action and adventure and horror. It is visually stunning and it is good storytelling in the Alien universe. The acting is good. The Direction and special effects are excellent, but Scott doesn't rely on the Special effects to make his story, and that is why it works so well. Love this cast. Michael Fassbender has added so much to the universe and he is great in dual roles in this one. Keep the franchise going so long as the commitment to never going back to when it lost its way (around Alien 3).
Den of Thieves was a surprisingly good police action drama. The story, the action, the dialogue were all really top notch. Gerard Butler was a main aspect of the film's success. His portrayal of a gritty, troubled cop determined to catch the bad guys was really compelling, This film is good because it uses that concept as a jump off point; however, it loses some of the things that made the first one good. This could be a stand alone, and, in fact, may have been better as one because those expecting a true sequel may be disappointed. The action, acting, scenery, and Direction are all good. I liked it.
This is shocking film is a return to the filmmaking style that helped Yorgos Lanthimos cross over from being a Greek filmmaker to being and International phenomena.. While his last few Hollywood made films have been very good their style varied from films like Dogtooth and The Lobster. The film contains three (3) independent stories and three sets of characters all played by the same great cast. The stories are nothing short of bizarre and unique. The acting by Jessie Clemons, in particular, is outstanding. Margaret Quailley lights up the screen in every scene. The rest of the cast is great. The visual images are so unique and memorable. The dialogue and the Direction are uniquely Yorgos. I liked it a lot.
