Argylle (2024)
Epic weird fun
Seriously. Epic. Weird. Fun.
I knew three things as soon as I saw Sam Rockwell in the trailer: 1) it would be weird. 2) it would be not at ALL what I'm expecting, and 3) no matter what, I would enjoy it. And whoo Nelly did it live up to that!
Is this movie silly? Yes. Is it pretty dumb? Yes. Is it a delirious disco grab-bag of spy tropes mixed in with smoke-screened dance scenes? HELLS yes.
Watch this movie. I mean it. Watch it and just let yourself enjoy the giddy silliness.
Stop needing every damn story to be mostly tragedy. Stop forcing every hero to be tortured by their past and carry a signature sadness. Stop making every villain "relatable" and let the good guys be good guys and the bad guys be baaaaaad.
Laugh at it. It wants to be laughed at. It's okay.
Sit down and just have some crazy fun for two hours. It's a BLAST. And the music is stellar!
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: Is This Not Real Magic? (2022)
I love this show SO MUCH
So many people trying to convince themselves that they hate this show for the CGI or the "character not acting like they should" when they are really just pushing mad that the show about the female character is actually focusing on the female character.
It's just brilliant. The fourth wall breaks, the legal procedural-in-superhero-times idea. Tatiana Maslany is an absolute rock in all of this. The performances are so good! And it's a hilariously realistic look at what life would be like in a world where you COULD match with a super hero on Tinder. (Though let's be real, they'd all probably be on that celebrity one).
I LOVE watching these characters we know grow and change and reveal more about themselves. I LOVE that Wong is becoming besties with a drunk party girl over their shared love of dramatic television. I LOVE watching a super hero trying to date.
It's absolutely brilliant and I can't recommend it enough.
Sure, there's lots of CGI, but ITS A SUPER HERO SHOW. Don't be an idiot.
The Afterparty (2022)
Highlight of my week!!
This show is AMAZING. The concept is brilliant, and the whole thing is beautifully presented. I'm really enjoying watching the conversations from all the different angles, especially ones that are incidental in one story but vital in another (but not the same conversation!). The whole cast is excellent, but Ben Schwartz is simply brilliant as always.
Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020)
I absolutely love this show!
It's brilliant. It's everything I imagine happening behind the scenes. The story isn't always about the people on the bridge, everyone has amazing stories!
Thunder Force (2021)
Don't believe the hate
Hilarious. Brilliant. Maybe if you're uncomfortable with middle-aged women being badass and awkward and sexy, you won't like it, but seriously. It's awesome.
