Pretty Lame Film
Striking some controversy recently the new film Karen turns the semi new meme into a excuse to make a film about racism. Its a film that trys to say something smart and trys to have a social commentary on racism, it fails big time. Yeah, its pretty bad. Many pointed out that it looks like a Saturday Night Live sketch and for most of the film it plays like one as well. It seems like Karen could be at least somewhat decent dark comedy but it takes it self too seriously.
The film is about a black couple who move into a upper class neighborhood but then it turns out that their new neighbor (named Karen) is a racist and is her brother who is a cop. What happens next is highly predictable. You seen the trailer you basically seen the movie. The thing is I found no one in this film likeable. Not even the protagonists. This is just a film that exploits the Karen meme. Its not clever. Its just very generic mess. However it can be viewed as a semi entertaining bad film. I actually did laugh a few times. Now was the comedy in here intentional?
Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
Great Premise but a Real Mixed Bag
I revisited the 2003 film the united my two favorite horror titans. I saw it in theaters when I was 14. I remember liking some of it but ultimately feeling disappointed. Over the years Its a film I had mixed feelings on. So I recently got it on Blu Ray and now re living it all over again. Im so torn on it. It has a lot of thigs I love and a lot I really dont.
Positives + Robert Englund really gives it his all here. In my opinion its his best performance as Freddy.
+ The fights are really cool, entertaining and gruesome.
+ The way the adults in the town try to cover up Freddys existence is a very clever idea.
+ The opening scene with Freddy explaining his back story is awesome.
+ The killings and gore are top notch.
+ Excellent metal soundtrack
- Ken Kirzinger as Jason. Hes not awful but hes kinda stiff and more like a hardcore Frankenstein. Most of us Jason fans wanted Kane Hodder back.
- The kids. A good amount of the Nightmare/Friday films has some likable characters in them. Not here. They are just very expendable and not worth caring about. Marc (Brendan Fletcher) is the only kinda one to care about because he stands up to Freddy.
- Too much time spent the other characters. I realize they had to put other people than just Freddy and Jason in here but it feels a little overkill here. Plus add the fact that most were not likable.
- Kia...nuff said.
- Freddy killing Loris mom subplot does not make a lot of sense. When did Freddy start to kill grown women?
- Other than flashbacks Freddy only gets one kill.
So like I said its very mixed for me but the positives kinda outdo the negatives.
Final rating: 7/10.
Harvard Man (2001)
Its one of the dumbest and pretty much pointless films I seen in a while. Its about a hot shot Harvard jock who makes a deal with a mafia boss to fix a basketball game to help his parents in need. The film is really oddly toned. I really could not tell if it was meant to be a drama or comedy or what. I have no idea what freakin genre this film was. About a third or so of the film is a odd drug trip that Cheech and Chong would say is too much. Its loaded with odd distorted images and it goes on far too long. I was thinking 'What the hell Im I watching?'.
The only positive thing in the film is Joey Lauren Adams who is pretty likeable in this like she was in Chasing Amy.
One of the worst films of the year.
I took a chance on a newly released film called Night of the Sicario aka Blindsided. I would think it would be at least somewhat watchable because it s released by Paramount.
Its about a young Colombian girl (whos mother is going to testify against a cartel) takes refuge at a retirement home. Natasha Henstridge is the main caretaker there who tries to protect her. Bad guys with guns track her down and try to take her out but the old timers there try to go against them. Its a really dumb and dopey mix of dull action and boring drama. One scene I swear has one victim bleed bright purple blood! Its so bad Im surprised Bruce Willis did not play the cop.
Test of Faith (1987)
Pathetic Propaganda Film
The plot is much like Gods Not Dead. A young Christian goes to college and clashes with a teacher on whether God exists. Of course the professor is stuffy and rather mean. Its a horrible and forgettable piece of propaganda from the director of the crazy and bigoted Rock: Its your Decision.
Cop Car (2015)
Its about two young boys running away from home and come across a crooked Sheriffs car with the keys in it. They take it on a joy ride. Bacon plays the crooked Sherriff trying to get his car back.
Its a fairly simple film but a pretty entertaining thriller. Some good laughs as well. Not one to see again but a solid watch.
The Marksman (2021)
Flawed but still rather good.
Liam Neeson's newest film is about a widower in heavy debt who help protect a young boy who is being hunted down by a cartel. Its flawed but entertaining and has some genuine emotion to it. I actually felt rather sad in spots. I notice that Liam is still turning out quality performances. Bruce Willis on the other hand is not.
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
Cage in Beast Mode
Well. This was an experience. Cage plays a silent, soda chugging, sunglasses wearing motorist who needs to fix his car, so he gets a overnight job at a closed down Chucky Cheese like kids party establishment. Little does he know that the animatronic band is possessed Satanically with the souls of serial killers who dies in a ritualistic suicide. Meanwhile some teens go and try to burn down Willy's but end up inside the hellhole.
Cage despite having no lines still manages to be fun to watch and its nice and bloody. I cant say I loved it or anything but its a basic fun horror flick that is fully self aware.
Megan Is Missing (2011)
Creepy, Unsettling but Hollow
So the film is a mocumentary loosely based and inspired by the 2002 disappearances of Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis in Oregon City, Oregon. This film is about two best friends Amy and Meagan. Meagan meets a guy on line and eventually disappears as does Amy. Eventually the film gets so dark and very disturbing. Kind of a different pace because the first 50 minutes were more like a teen drama. Its a mixed bag but I got to give it credit because it did creep me out big time.
Flawed but Very Scary
I must say Host is probably the scariest film I have seen in a while. The film works well for the most part. The film is about in modern day Civid-19 quarantine, 6 friends get together in a zoom chat to have a séance. One of the friends ruins everything and basically they get haunted. There are some good scares here. One really got to me and I yelled out loud.
for the most part I recommend Host as a solid scary film but there is one thing that is a major flaw. The film only has a run time of 57 minutes. Thats fine with me really. Rather have a shorter film without the filler. But what happens is t boost the run time up someone thought it was a good idea to put a real life séance that the cast and crew did at the end of the film. It really brings you out of the film you just watched. Its just a DVD feature attached to the film. Im guessing its just to boost the run time up. But the extra bit is not scary and feels like a useless extra. It just kinds ruined the whole good scary experience for me.
Bruce in Space: The Final Frontier
Well the one positive thing I can say about this film is that Bruce is much more lively here. Many of these direct to DVD Willis films hes not exactly giving his best performances but the performance is not too shabby. He shows more emotion here. The film however is not good. It reminded me of Doom from 2005. Its basically mutant zombies in space. The effects are not too good. the weapons looked like toys. It resembles more of a Asylum film if anything. Its a lame space action thriller that is watchable at the very best.
Hard Kill (2020)
Just watch a Die Hard film instead.
This one is just crap. Along with North its the worst film in the Bruce Willis filmography. Its a film shot at a where house where the good guys shoot and the bad guys shoot back. Thats really most of what happens. I can enjoy simple shoot 'em up action films but this one is very dull. Just a very lame, cheap and very generic action film that happens to have Bruce Willis in some scenes.
God Awful Movies (2015)
Hilarious Reviews on Bad Faith Films
Eli Bosnick, Heath Enwright, and Noah Lugeons (plus guests) review in depth some very bad religious films like Gods Not Dead, Loving the Bad Man, Audacity, A Matter of Faith and many many others. Its a very entertaining and extremely funny podcast that exposes horrible films.
The Fool (2018)
Another Lame Comfort Film.
I guess Ray Comfort was feeling lie a pure victim so he made this film about himself. Its like he does not see why hes a human parody. He makes Christians look bad. God Awful Movies did a very good job reviewing this one.
The Sodomite Deception (2021)
A Display of Hate.
Steven Anderson and others put on this horrible piece of propaganda that just hates on gay people. Its vile, bigoted and twisted. Who in this day and age still thinks like this. these people have issues that need to be worked out.
The Green Inferno (2013)
Eli Roth's Best Work
Eli Roth makes a film much like the 1980 film Cannibal Holocaust but is more of a love letter to that film. The plot involves a group of activists doing what they can to save the rainforest but get captured by a tribe of cannibals and it becomes a fight to survive. Its a suspenseful enjoyable gorefest.
What a total waste.
This has to be one of the worst films I seen in a while. Its a total mess to say the least. Its one of those films that heavily advertises Alec Baldwin on the poster and trailer and hes in it for two scenes. A total of about 5 minutes or so.
So what is this about? Well it starts out with a montage of paintings and lousy music. Sienna Miller has a nightmare that she killed her ex boyfriend/drug dealer but also she really did I guess. The film is so horribly done I couldnt tell if she was dreaming or not. Eventually she chats about art to her friend, dumps the ex boyfriends body in a trunk, talks to a cop, has dinner with her family, talks to another guy and thats about it really. Its the biggest load of absolute nothing. I actually started laughing when the movie was over at how dumb it was. It was like watching nothing. But the real kicker is the run time. I checked the time when the film ended at it was at 64 minutes. Thats right. 1 hour and 4 minute movie not including credits.
Survive the Night (2020)
Well lets see what Bruce Willis has out this week. I think hes overtaking Nicolas Cage in the most straight to DVD work. Now he has out Survive the Night. Its a pretty generic thriller that has 2 brothers headed on their way to Mexico after ripping off 20 grand. After a incident at a convince store one of the brothers gets shot. The invade a doctors home (whos father is a retired cop played by Willis) and threaten their lives if they dont help them. Its a survival story but lacks any real tension and suspense. Its like if you seen the trailer you have pretty much seen the film. Not an awful film and not even Bruce Willis's worst work but pretty lame overall.
Crazy to say the least.
Im interested in the craziest most insane films I can find. I found Loving the Bad Man, the film that says rape victims should befriend their rapists. Also Cries of the Unborn that says kidnapping a woman is OK in certain circumstances.
Now I found Best Friends Genetically Modified. A film that is a crazy conspiracy theorists dream. Basically its a watch everything you eat, anti-vax, anti fluoride and actually anti chemotherapy film. This is the first film that says if you have cancer just walk it off. Its hard to explain really but every scene in the film its just people saying how everything is bad for you. The chemotherapy thing I found to be the most crazy. Granted it should not be forced on anyone but this films says not to seek it out.
I have seen two other films by the filmmakers Chip Rossetti and Donald James Parker. One called Gramps goes to Collage about an old guy going to collage to preach. Also Right to Believe which is a bigoted anti gay piece of crap. So Im really going to take the films these guys make seriously.
Truly a terrible comedy.
So I checked out the comedy Loqueesha. The film is about a bartender who is good at giving advise and needs money to send his son to a private school. He gets a job as a talk radio host but he does it in a voice of a black woman named Loqueesha and things go from there.
It struck some controversy last year as being racist and insensitive. Many could not believe the film was made and many took it as offensive and intolerant. And if a film strike that kind of controversy then I need to see it. The film has a whopping 1.2 on IMDB.
So is it as bad as everyone says? I say yes and not because of the film being racist or intolerant. Simply I did not find anything at all funny. Not a joke or gag works at all. Its just a total mess of incompetent film making. Also it caries some awful green screen effects and pretty bad adr voice over work. Also the film comes of a pretentious and smug like as if the director/star of the film was trying to say something deep with this film. Talk about a vanity project. Its a complete mess, its boring and most of all unfunny. It has my vote for worst movie of 2019 and one of the worst comedies I have ever seen.
A Matter of Faith (2014)
One of the Worst Movies Ever.
A Matter of Faith is a frustrating propaganda piece...and thats mostly what it is. Aside from being an awful film its just Creationist propaganda. The odd thing is is that the Creationists in the film seem more like the villains of the film. The film is about a young girl named Rachel who goes to collage and takes a Biology class in which the professor (Kaman) played by Harry Anderson. He teaches evolution like in a Biology class. Rachel's father gets upset because Evolution is taught and confronts Kaman. Kaman is far more likable in this discussion and film. However Rachael's father wants a creation alternative taught. He wants to interrupt the school system to support his beliefs. He wanted for his daughter to go to a Christian school but she did not. Fine. Shes an adult. She can go to what school she wants. So the message of the film is to not think for yourself or is it that certain parts of science is bad?
The film leads into a straw man debate in which the creations actually cheat and destroy the debate by switching debaters in the middle of the debate. How were these supposed to be the good guys? This is a film about a girl who goes out to the world and getting an education but the film thinks that is a bad thing. A Matter of Faith is an awful film in every way. Its a terrible propaganda film of the worst kind.
Let There Be Light (2017)
One of the Dumbest Films Ever Made.
Let There Be Light is a crazy, stupid, horribly written, horribly directed and mean spirited pile of trash that is just about has to be self parody. After the terrible Gods Not Dead, Kevin Sorbo for some reason is doing more of the same kinda mean spirited junk. Its so mean and crazy it opens with tragedies like 9/11 and the Boston bombing! The film is about a atheist author named Sol Harkens. He is divorced and has two boys. His ex wife and two boys are played by his real life wife and kids. His kids are awful actors. He contributes in atheist/Christian debates in which he seems more of a misotheist than an atheist. At his book part we meet his agent played by Daniel Roebuck who is straight in the film but plays his character is a gay stereotype. Sol gets into a near fatal car accident and sees his deceased son. His son tells him "Let there be Light". Sol leaves the hospital not to long after he gets into the accident. Nothing seems wrong with him physically for some reason. After meeting a pastor (which is a extreme Italian stereotype) he becomes a Christian again. His ex wife think Let There Be Light means that people should shine their cell phone lights to the sky and light up the night. Really? You can light up the nights sky with small cell phone lights?
This film is so crazy and just flat out stupid that its just insulting. Who thought this film was a good idea? People looked at this awful script and agreed to be apart of this? Let There Be Light is one of the worst films of 2017... and possibly ever. Its that awful.
Last Ounce of Courage (2012)
Persecution Complex: The Motion Picture
Last Ounce of Courage is a film that would be great for those who want to feel persecuted but are really not. Its a film that is about the "War on Christmas". Where is this war? Christmas is a big deal every year. Christmas decorations are everywhere to be seen. Christmas items fill the stores. Christmas parades happen ever year. There is no lack of Christmas in America. But this film tries to say there is. Its crazy. Its all a lie. But with a persecution complex film anything is possible.
The film is about Bob Revere (really?). Bob is a very unlikable protagonist who has no personality. Hes a pharmacist and Mayor (really?) and he is upset because Christmas traditions are becoming extinct. Bob wants to put Christmas back in his town in a big way. Plus his teenage grandson and his new friends hatch a plan to destroy their school play. Its all one big silly mess of a film that is way too stupid to take seriously. Its only a good film to poke fun at if anything.
Christmas with a Capital C (2011)
One of the worst Christmas films ever
Christmas with a Capital C is a mean spirited film that exists to bash people who have different views as the filmmakers. The film is about Mayor Dan Reed (Ted McGinley) and his family including his very annoying brother played by Brad Stine getting offended by people saying things other than Merry Christmas. His past rival played by Danial Baldwin returns to town to run for Mayor with his political correctness rubbing off on the town. Dan gets offended by all of this including a scene where he gets upset because he may have to put Hanukkah or Kwanzaa decorations up in town. This film is anti Hanukkah or Kwanzaa. Its a mean film that shows the holidays wrapped in a persecution complex package. What is to like here? Its a hard film to watch because of its stupidity and mean spirited agenda. It even shows horrible stand up from Brad Stine to a routine that everyone should just say Merry Christmas. Just say what you want, celebrate Christmas how you like and best not to watch horrible films like Christmas with a Capital C.
Dull and Lame action thriller.
This was a rough one. It stars Frank Grillo and Bruce Willis. The film is about a bank robbery and the aftermath. It has bank president (Frank Grillo) and his ex cop neighbor (Bruce Willis) trying to figure out who robed the bank and where he will strike next.
The issue is that the film is just rather dull and the characters have no chemistry with each other. However thats not the major issue. The major issue is Bruce Willis. Granted this is a very much lesser performance from him but still thats alright. The big issue is that he is not in some of his scenes. They get a stand in for a good amount of scenes. In the film when we first meet James (Bruce Willis) its not even him. Its just the back of some bald guys head with a poorly edited shot of a close up of Willis spliced in. When we hear him talk Im pretty sure its not even Bruce Willis's voice. This happens a few times. We see the back of a bald guys head and supposed to think is really Bruce. Im guessing they had Bruce for 2 or 3 days only and had to cut corners. How lazy of an actor can you get? Bruce Willis cant even film scenes for a movie thats he was paid to be in.
