The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018)
i hate to use the word cliche'
But its just another lisbeth salander story, again in the swedlish language format, even mrs foy has had to learn this. it has now been given a mission impossible comparison, hunt and salander are immortal heroes, and will continue to be that till nostradamus says ''stop''.
not much to pull forward or drag down, it is on the average in all its simplicity, the plot have a few holes, the choice of locations are not convincing, especially the topographic differences between eastern hilly and islish coastland of sweden, and the illusion of arlanda are taken from a flat lanscape somewhere in germany. it has been filmed in stockholm too ,but just 5 % i guess. one scene though are marvelous, its the spectacular car crash near the end of the film.watch it in slo-mo and enjoy.
clare foy has the looks for many potential biographical films, in this film i see her as dutch high speed skaiting queen irene wust, a staminous and never smiling face, its a spitting image for sure.
its a film to put on if the telly doesnt give enough excitement,i give it a seven, and thats about it.
The Last Laugh (2019)
Its a lot of trivial fun, slapstick humour, good jokes and some small screamers from a downhill train of dead moments, but all in all very recommendable.
as everybody know i'm a grumpy old man,and its the reflection of chevy chase looking at me ,if not the funny parts it is in his demeanors. at least i have 10 thick thumbs like chevy when glitching a message on the smart phone, that nearly made me sign of from life ,from laughter.
if i were challenged to pick out 5 of the 100 latest comedy movies, this would have been one of them
As i sit here after watching piercing, i realise that i have tasted the bitter taste of madness.,its black vs white,or blond vs dark, its s/m,lust,deathwish,icepicks,a hore and a tiny little man . its two seperate madnesses clinching together, each craving blood from one another, and are totally transfixed and blinded by their fetishism of........!
this may sound kauderwelsh to everybody, and the twists and lures that gives this film sting and a little bit of laughter, are so bedafling that you forget to switch it of.
what i liked best was the silent acting, lets call it pantomime,as dario fo performed so terrificly in my childhood years, it is so brilliantly done. especially his warm-up session in the bed and bathroom are wunderbar(-e).
its a film for the nutty viewer and i can guaratee that 95% of the potentiall viewers will stop it within seks have actually started. so have a good look at it, it has qualities for sure, but its not for self-harmers or for those under 12.
Unseen Enemy (2017)
explosive and scary and educating
This is a scarecrow of a documentary, its scary from begginning till nearly the end, its about the travelling diseases, that could wack out entire populations in weeks.its about detection and protection and solutions to prevent future outbreaks.
its well narrated, well put together, enough to make you think twice. its the same story you might say, as it is, but its infomation that needs to be told again and again, and this is a very good example how to do it.
be cautious ,take measures how you will handle things if you were stricken,be preventive, and do take available vaccines if obtainable.i vaccinate myself against the seasonal flu ,not only to save myself from stress and fatigue being ill ,but also to let people around me stay healthy ,especially the one with cronic diseases or cancer that makes them unable to take the vaccine at all. its the indirectness we must heed about. remember you are just a small piece of a 7 billion pieces jigsaw puzzle, and you maybe the one killing us all...........
a very good documentary,highly recommended.
Boy Erased (2018)
This is just a fantastic movie, the filmography are at times spellbinding, the music are well stitcehed in the play, the fight between the forces are deadly but brilliantly performed by the actors. lucas hedges are really making a deep impression with his acting, and mygod ,he has an overload of potential in the art of acting. russel crowe plays the father character with great experience, and pushes the right buttons at the right spots.
lgbtq, god you need a cheating note to remember what it means, versus religion + america=its a tie anyway, and will always be so as long as human stubborness are present. im glad i can stand on the sideline and look at it .
its a heartbreaking film and im sure many will cry, many will become even more angry and stubborn, but in the end it gives hope .
Blood Bound (2019)
its painfully slow
Its a devilish flick for sure, its blood bound so to speak, with witches, monsters, crooks, virgins, spells, enchantments and fear. its an esthetical piece of art in all its simlicity, the acting are at times very good and so are also the filmography. its not the most scary thing ive seen, but it has for sure an unexpected ending and are at times very emotional.
but the pace are far too slow, i'm not a profesional movie reviewer, so i can admit that i started the screening at normal, then rushed to 1,12, so 1,25 and in the end i took a dervish dance at 1,5 speed and almost forgot why the film ended so fast.unethical yes,but some flicks has a pace that can be adjusted without getting the bends anyway, so i cheated a little.....
they genre this film as a horror thriller, i will adjust that to psychological horror drama, because its all about existestial claustrophobia. i recommend a watch even though im just awarding it as a 6 star movie.the rest is up to you.
Ballada o bombere (2011)
a decent russian production
Its a 2 nd world war film,or the great war as some says. its just not what i expected though. title in english where bomber, well then i imagined more a arial warfare battle kinda movie , but its more a pow camp movie, mixed in with decieft, cowardness and crimes of war. its a well used reciept when making war movies, but some of the story were really revealing lots of war history to me as white vs reds ,and ukrains vs russians and medieval hate set on fire with the help of and due to the german invasion of soviet territory in 1941. its clear that its near the end of the war, the fatigue are visible among germans and soviets. the crucial goal of the plot is to damage german v2 rocket test sites in the baltic white russian state areas.
its also a love story here, though irrelevant i get chivers of casablancan feeling when viewing the desperation in the relationship.
i dont recognize any of the cast, not used to watch russian film, other than that its over the average, the efforts made in icy water, cold air and muddy pitches are quite impressing. the technical production are good, though the editor seems a bit abrupt on the theme switches and stops the romantic sessions and its music very brutal and without emotions. for god sake ,give the audience a glimpse of hope, it lasts for 3 hours. there are some resemblance to pearl harbour in the sense of hopelessness, but thats quite irrelevant and only my opinion.
i recommend a watch as it shows a piece of russian war history.
its a battle party
I want all of you to remember that im an old grumpy man, but i liked the mood and moves of this dancing hip-hop style movie.i did like to dance myself ,and that made me last through the whole movie.
its about rich vs poor, west versus east(of the city), modern vs freestyle , posh vs trash and so on. as a former swimming coach i recon the worthyness of not going too ''special'' to meet the goals , rather use all the opportunities of physical workout from other sports or styles or activities to become a better and fitter performer of your speciality. loosen up may make you become the best
the lovestory, being drawn between the rich and the poor have been played out in thousands of film, on a low budget production like this its pretty good performed and directed, the editing are good, the filming couldve been more advanced especially if using fly over camera rigs or even a dronecam would have ignited more energy out of the dancing. also letting the cast speak their own language with subtitles are very nice. dont mess with language ,its a great part of the culture. the cast are surprisingly good, at international standard really.
i grew up with hip hop myself, and i liked to freestyle myself on the dance floor, though 80'ish style it was,but mygod i liked it and it made me even better as a competition swimmer , so go out and dans, dans, dans, till the battle is done.
i recomend this film for the good message and a well told lovestory vs people and vs dancing......
American Nightmare (2019)
its better than average.
Having seen quite a lot of real murder docu series along the years one gets pretty squemish, believe me, the worst must be'' the nightmare next door'' and on the opposite side you have'' the devil speaks'', and american nightmare settles somewher inbetween there. it tells the stories quite well, but there are to much repetitivness within each episode,as seeing the same live footage 8 or 9 times becomes boring . some of the cases are really heartwrenching and terrifying, and i do feel the pain that relatives explain during the time of investigation, and about the time afterwards. the producers of this serie could have retrieved a wider spectre of live recordings, espesially the use of live video interrogations and trial sessions.
all episodes has not been released when writing this review,so take the weight of the eight with a pinch of salt, but it is over average.
King of Thieves (2018)
my god how old they are
What alarms me is how fast the years go by,them crooks where''stoneaged'' already when i was 12 and they are still rollin about. its the hatton gardens again, they are all alike,in this flick everything goes far too smooth the make belief, and its a dog days afternoon to them all in the end .
the cast of actors are fine, i'm a caine-fan even though i disliked him for many years, but listening to his well spoken english, its like opera in my ears, neither do i love opera but good it is anyway.
there are phases of the film that are top notch,so are some of the dialouges here and there, but all in all it is a slow kinda heist,my nursing care home patients could easily have done some of the stuff, and the age is more or less same,so its a very kindly sort of 7 i give. i recommend it.
SGT. Will Gardner (2019)
Wow, was this a roller coaster of high spirits and deep sorrows and despair. youre lured into the trap by some of the best wittyness, then you take a dive into darkest grieves ever viewing this film
its a film about war-veterans, a man they call Ghost, who talks to a ghost/spirit that died in action who were Ghosts best friend. the dead ghost works as a buffer against psychological despair and the dangers of snapping in a life as homeless and moneyless war veteran.
to draw a historical line to norwegian war history, we have the story of the bad treatment and lack of gratitude towards the merchant sailors who worked for the norwegian/allied NORTRASHIP company convoing petrol and war material for the allies during the second world war. they werent granted any pensions as war veterans, because the company were civil and therefore not navy mariners. my grandfather who worked as a coal shuffler on the steam engine, lived through 2 torpedo attacks in the icy waters of the north atlantic,he survived and became a great burden for the state of norway through all the years till his death in 1992. he was granted a medal in 1991 from the king of norway as thanks for your services ( and we hope you die soon), as he did the year after with a hunchback full of mental disorders and extreme memories in his backpack. a disgrace it is anywhere and anyhow or anywhen. give them what you owe them, they are really ill and badly damaged and in many cases cannot go backto a normal way of life , like we who have shadowed away from the war zone can, with normal jobs etc. i experienced war flashbacks in my grandfather especially in the first years of his last 10 years living with alzheimers-disease(-d).and that was cruel stuff, believe me. if i was a rich man i would have given what i could to help, maybe the microsoft founder could spare a bit of his Bill to help them out of the Gates of hell.
max martini as sgt will gardner, are trully and sincere an academy award winner for best male actor with and through this film. max, if you read this, you owe me a handkerchief for sure, for all the tears and snott you caused, when watching your film. no wonder they thought you were bryan cranston, you really do act like the one. not to underestimate the rest of the cast who made this a memorable moment of movie watching.
as a film product its a smooth biketrip of soothing music, beautiful filmography, thouroughly done editing, and mysterious use of light. a thought that hit me is that it could have been dug even deeper in the materie of the topic
it is highly recommended
Der Hauptmann (2017)
What i most of all liked in this historical war drama, was the brilliantly used black and white production, this really touched several strings of feelings when watching this film, like schindlers list, very well done by the director, and production team, particularly the light crew, that seems like having great experience on b/w productions.
its a raw film, and the two main themes are authority and desertations, soldiers returning alone or in small groups from the front, are picked up and merely shuffled into soldier prison camp, awaiting the military tribunal to decide wether or not they are kujons . its the bitter flavour of war, being british, american, german, russian or japanese, they all punished the war tired young men and woman, momentarily with quick executions,or with imprisonment.
the acting are very good, the characters are put on the edge, i especially liked ''herr freitag'' who expresses his fears and disbelief with high standard. in the beginning i started to wonder if this was some kind of comedy flick, but i soon found out what a harsh hell of a life described in the film. the story is said to be a true story, and that makes it even worse to imagine. what i miss in the plot is where and when things happens, that wouldve brought the message of the story even further ahead. i loved the use of original language with english subtitles.( i wish norwegian filmmakers had done the same, like in netflix's u-22 of july, where norwegian actors stumbles away with 6th grade school english.)
but its a good film, believe me, it is not for everyone though, and if youre fainthearted,or have a vivid ability to glue vision to your memory, then do make a ''halt'' when its discomforting you, because its not getting better.i watched with 3 long breaks ,just to devour.
Wet Behind the Ears (2013)
This is a sugar sweet film about toughness of living, unemployment, lack of money and living with your parents as a young woman. everybody else has work of a kind that makes them money, just not this girl still wet behind her ears.
there are lots of ''hey'' and ''okey'' in the script, thats usually a good sign of low quality script. also acting trying to be positive with a head shake sideways, usually signals ''no'', well that happens alot here, and its why they never reach a or b standard and has to act out in a c-movie like this.
the acting are generally passable, but the only truthful one is the main played by Margaret Keane Williams. the technical production are terrible at times soundwise, especially in the ice cream shop, the mike's mustve been hidden in the frozen youghurt.
anyway, its a cosy thing, im sure, cause im just an old grumpy man.......
What They Had (2018)
i wept when she said ''im sorry''.....
This disease affect directly or indirectly every person an planet earth. either you have it, or in your family,or in your neighbourhood or you work with them like i do, its like an everlasting earthquake to experience.this film tells a very well structured story about a woman with dementia, though not too seriously beaten yet, i guess on 15-25 on the mmst scale, about her loving husband and their children and grandchildren. reminisence are a keyword to the story, and it reminds me a lot of how it was when my dad and granddad went through a very fast development of the disease, and how responsibilities fell on the one living nearest and how that damaged a lot of our family dynamics. i shall admit that i was not the nearest to my dad neither in distance or true relations, and backed out rather quikly, but thats another story....
what i miss in these kinda movies is the lack of fun, because there are actually a huge amount of comic situations when caring for my own, but especially when working with old demented persons. what i can say is that they are as different as fingerprints, there are no fasit whats correct,so there are many walls to smash your head against believe me.
i like the acting ,its not overexhaggerated, just very truthfull. the music and filmography are very nice. the start sequence when mum walks away in the snow are just beautiful.
i give it an eight, you may give a star too cause its recommended
The Car: Road to Revenge (2019)
daughter of christine?????
'this is a true reprise of a good old car movie from the early 80's,that are still the best anyhow. also with inspiration from the first 3 madmax movies, and a few moreof the kind, then you have the car on the road to revenge.
its all about a sinister car spirit that takes revenge on everyone that has been cruel somehow to the car or its owner or close friends of the carowner. its not a good film, but its not bad either. the storyline are lousy and simple, much of the acting are on c-level, but the slashing and cruelty made on man and machine are topnotch if it is what youre looking for....a bit much dressing on the salad if you ask me, but i guess this is the salesargument behind making films like this. the special effects are good at times.
its worth a look if you can outstand extreme car violence because its some of the most graphical images and effects i have seen in a feature movie.
so take a chance on me,its recommended
the (as-)silent killer lurching in de bush....
And nobody will ever like this review i know, i know......
This is a terribly dark political satire over the most henchy of all henchmen in u.s. history, it tells alot but its not swored in on telling the truth and nothing but the untruth. you got to be on solid rock to say for sure that you know american dark politic history aka''i know all about'' the dark web, because thy are all pinnochios for sure, stringed up to obey the physical laws of its creator....... do read modern american political history, just be sure that the authors are not american.....
the film tells a lot in a mockingly mocking way, its not a documentary, even though i know that plenty of people( in the yuesofa) will eat this fish raw . the only thing i find truthfully covered in this film are the socalled timeline of mr dicks life.
when having watched this movie, there are big gaping holes that hasnt been filled, because of lack of time or lack of sponsors or lack of distributors or lack of guts.... the choice of mr slater as mr.cheney is not a bulls eye,he has the gapping mouth and deep silent voice , but hes not a comedian. As dubya there are lots of spitting images to choose from, the show SNL has brought ahead loads of talents, so when they chose the wild geek from ''the green mile''whos best qualities lies in the practical jokes ,it just not good enough, they couldve trained a chimpansee to act as that president . condy and colin are very well casted, and the small strip of kissinger are monumental. steve carell as rumsfeld are like using a nun to act as jimi hendrix, if i were the caster,i would have made him into nixon, cause they have the same nose-equipment and very funny eyes to stare at.why didnt they ask a beardless jeff bridges,or jeff daniels or....? rowan atkinson as mr wolfowitz would have sledged the hammer beyond this movie.
the potential in this film couldve been mushrom cloud like, if they had dared. though it stings the portrayed ones, the sissyness of the producers shines through. its also slow on tha pacing, and couldve been more ''gumped'' up.
i recommend a watch, because as a gangstercomedy it prevails.....
thou shalt not kill, i believe......
A very good perfomance by the 5 main actors, and a heavenly pleasantly filmed movie, with an kain and abel feverish moral, with all the signs of PTSD, and being caught up with other people on a desolate island, hiding the worst secrets a man can hide, a golden eye staring at them all the times, and the way they all deal with these on a personal level.you cannot make judgements after just one screening, firstly because of the cinderblocklike scottish dialect, and secondly the very well hidden message behind this film. it is grueling at times,a bit slow too, but very recommendable.
American Hangman (2019)
sutherland are still alive
Well , this is a film that tells the story of how random life can be and what the consequences may be of living, and who are the best to judge that , you, me , the jury, the people or simply the judge.....law isnt my strongest part ,and american law are far to complex to understand under these circumstances, coup d'etat or marshal laws and pure anarchi are some clues to this film
donald sutherland has grown old for sure, but he still delivers, and makes this film very suspensfilled and keeps you on the edge of the chair almost till the end. its a new angle of involving social media as a max factor in the movie world, and passes through very well, though the truth-factor are questionable.
to summarize, its yet another example of the power of going viral on social media. recomendable it is.
not as wild as i expected.
If your looking for comedy ,action or mystery in this drama, well then your walking the wrong doo, its pure drama and only that.
its about a tormented little family, bvased in montana in the late 1950's early 60's,jobs are hard to get,and the family life are like low on wd-44. there are boredom leading to adultery, that leads to a terrible heartbreaking conflict of confidence in their 14 year old son. its not screamed out, rather a silent victim of his parents choices.
its hard to choose side in this kinda movie, the unconscious says yes,but the better half says no.... it is a film where the filmography plays a great part of telling the story, and that are far above average.the acting are splendindly done by mr oxenbould, and gyllenhaal and ms mulligan have some powerfull dialouges when screaming at eachother. what i find difficult is the pace of the movie, far too slow, and the absence of both warm and cold feelings in this existential drama. its a 6 without doupt, and a bit reluctantly recommendable..
extreme,near biblicaly apocalyptic experience...
Though the story are very marvel like...
its all about a visual orgasmic cascade of vfx and cgi-effects, that bombards the optic nerve to a near apoplectic experience of motion, color and sound. its definately the very very best marvel/dc comic film i have seen, and really challenges avatar when it comes to visuall impression. i saw the film in 2d at the theater, and i donot regret that, what i really regret is that i did not do an extra effort to find a 3d screening,do that if you can....
the acting though are average, but the fights and acton shoots are spectacular, and may the force be with you.....star wars really looses terrain compared to what aquaman presents.
if youre a nerd you may not like all the breeches of physical laws that are broken when living a submarine life, and the moralistic standpoint taken on the polution of the ocean are daft and nevertheless-like.
i have given a 10 in a mood of hysteria of this film experience, and even give a plus to the tenner for the ironical comments and comedy that are stuck inbetween. i also sensed this from other spectators when leaving the theater. so if you must choose between bumble bee and aquaman for your christmas giftcard cinema experience ,then go for aquaman, you will never forget it,and you wont regret it anyhow. im going to see this film many times at 0.5 and 0,25 speed just to swallow all the background and background movements. it is pivotal an d majesticly done.
The Old Man & the Gun (2018)
slow,but a great farewell
Robert redford, is not at its best, but does a good job under the consideration of a very loose plot and script. there are so many flaws in the plot that you start wondering if youre dementious,or did they really skip that.
its a brilliantly made filmography, but the sound work fails alot, at time the music strangles the dialouges, especially with children.
the score are good, smooth jazz-like humming through the whole film. i did expect some more action in this biographical drama, which also have danny glover and sissy spasek on the cast. i had expected a more viril an vigiliantous casey affleck as the heat chasing the over the hill.gang.
its a recommendable film, believe me , but as a biographical journey in forrest tuckers life, it misses the target
Men, Women & Children (2014)
made in 2014,but even more important...
This is definately not an action film, neither a comedy, rather a spot on drama about the use, disuse, overuse, abuse of internet and social media, and loose connected peoples attitudes ,feelings, angst and misunderstanding of the digital age. its a mood film, and if my vibes had been on tunnelvision i might have switched it of, yes it is definately that kind of movie.
i myself fell of the techwave in the late 80's,and only introduced pc's in the late 90's for the cause of our children (and my davis weather station), a mobile phone i got 5 yrs after my wife, why??? im a bit old-habbited,very little digitally curious,a bit overwhelmed and a bit suspicious. i have strict guidelines of my own use of digital data, but i have not messed , interferred or been actively suspicious upon my kids....my spouce though are a far greater risk one might say.....?!
its a marvelous piece of film, and its dead on target from start to end.it mirrors the madness in parenthood, the wimsyness in an anorectic child, the promiscouitous innocence of teenagehood and adulthood, curiousity that blow back nearly fatally, how things get out of control, misunderstandings and so on....
had i been a teacher for teenagers , i woulve screened this film for them as a reminder, and as recognition to their experiences vs.parents, friends and school and used it as a track of discussion of ones digital life and survival.
the acting are flawless the teenagers are amazing and the whole production are so perfect so it is an inevitable 10 ,for men ,women and children.
i think this was an interesting film
And having read the reviews before seeing this tonight,i simply cant understand, why this is so terrible, if so then star wars, star trek, avatar, and soforth to be showed under the same comb.this isnt a documentary, aka giving a true and revealing description of truth, its a fantasy film en masse, even though some says its possible.i'm an IQ at 130-136,pretty lame that i do not know the truth here......that was nearly a joke,or maybe im cloned, who knows... these days. its after all just entertainment......
the film reminds me of the animation films of wall-e and nexgen, when it comes to imaginative skills and i think we all should draw the comparitions to this animated fantasyworlds, rather than concluding that this is just junk and a big lie.. i liked the film, it has an immersive score, colourfilled filmography,a good enough storyline and maybe best of all a very probable sequel to this family saga. there are some loopholes and amnesiac solutions to some practical problems in the plot, but its entertainment, if you had got this film in the early 1990's it would have been a revolution.the acting are above average, but not solid bullseye.
well back to basics, cloning and biomedicinal experimentation, are for the grave and very ethical to decide. what i have come to realize is that doing the deed of making a human the natural way are far easier, less expensive, and much more pleasant to do,if you cant there are the egg-way,if you cant there are the adopted way, so if you will wait for the possibility of cloning a perfect you, well hasta la vista , baby.
which fallen star has been kept out...
Or didnt get a role in this mess of a thriller???. the lucky one has probably saved his or hers careere for a few more years, and do not have to stand trial for parttaking in this robbery of 90 minutes of my lifetime. so im gonna backtrace them and the director cause this is over and out for him and the rest.
its shows from 00 59 in this flick that its dumb and colorless,a wild shootout, camera images so close up on the actors ,so you start counting the pimples on the forehead, and nostril-hairs on syst, terrible. lame story, unexciting filmography, bad light and sound production, terrible score, and a castaway cast that should have been left with a coconut each on a pacific sandbank, screaming to the landcrabs, who has allready eaten the leftovers from another castaway film.....
there are simply not anything fine to say about this motheaten story, than that it should never have been made, and if you have free tickets ,throw them away.
Next Gen (2018)
one for the 1 child policy
Next gen is a great animated movie ,with cool music, nice artistry,a raw pet dog, and far too many low noised robot pals and people that buzz around and destroys the real good sound impression of this movie.
what i see is a lonely child, brought to the world in a one child per family society, where robots have taken the role as brother or sister and in many ways occupies the position as the childs only friend.. aka a nations try to put breaks on the overpopulation crisis of a nation, and the film really flashes lots of the negative symptoms of not having a brother or sister, and in 20 years no aunts and uncles and so on....
though dialouges are drowned in buzzing sound effects and background music its a great film with a superimportant message. do watch, highly recommended
