At first I was skeptical, but the film pushed a lot of boundaries and genres in a poetic way
12 November 2017
PROS: One thing that was well realized was the build up of tension. It almost felt like the film was happening in real time, which gave that extra bit of paranoia to the project. When the movie unraveled it spiraled out of control giving a sort of hypnotic attractiveness. It lured you in and kept you hyper focused on each event, which allowed for the extreme scenes to have no limits, giving it that great tension. I genuinely don't believe that this could've been achieved if the acting wasn't as good as it was. Each character had depth, had more to them than just "a father" "a rapist" "a victim". These were real people, and that came across through the screen. The Final thing that I appreciated was the feel of the movie. It's hard to explain, but the tone of the scene, the weather, and the timing really vamped up the movies importance. To top it all off, the film had a very classic horror vibe which was terrific.

CONS: The biggest thing that bothered me was the resolution. It not only felt redundant, but it was unbelievable and not plausible by any means.

This movie goes down with being the worst film i've seen
9 November 2017
PROS: This movie is so bad and awful and terrible that it is hard to find a pro. What I can say however, is that the acting in the movie was good. I love EMILY BLUNT, so I'm kinda bias. In the film, she is amazing.

CONS: In the film, there is no real plot or problem to be solved, which makes it extremely hard to have a good build up of tension. I have only ever seen one a movie with a bad build up and yet pulled off a good conclusion and thats Exam. This movie couldn't pull that off. Movies overall have a hard time with that, granted. But with this film in particular, there was a really difficult time at establishing a plot with any consistency. It is just so all over the place which really made it hard for anything good to come out of the acting. To dive deeper into to the film is to get more confused, which sucks because you really want to have a topical and a deeper meaning to any sci-fi horror. This film just didn't have that. Ill summarize it for you. You have a girl and a guy stranded on a back road in winter, with a bunch of spectral happenings everywhere that make no sense and are irrelevant. You also have no intensity or paranoia, nor are you gifted with an ending that matters, no. You just get garbage.

Great torture horror
8 November 2017
PROS: For starters, the acting in this film is so good its beyond words. The true raw emotions that each actor takes on is revealed with such honesty that it is hard to look over. You had love, fear, compassion, and pain that embody the film and its rawness so well. The other thing that I noticed as a critic was tactfulness of the plot. For me it is the little things that can throw a film off, but in this movie those little things were addressed in a polished way. This overall made the already great storyline even better! The whole idea of a booby trapped house made for a compelling film. And to top it all off the film was so well crafted. The special effects were great, the scenery was terrific, and the setting was so well organized and thought out.

CONS: The biggest problem I had was with the resolution and build up of tension. To me there were way to many climaxes and just a really crummy resolution. The ending could've been better if it wasn't after 4 different climaxes. It would've been more impactful.

Don't Blink (2014)
This is a movie has everything you really need for a good horror film
6 November 2017
PROS: The thing that's stands out more than anything is the progression of intensity. This is an undeniable pro. When you get down to the nitty gritty each and every characters, presumed, death is more intense than the next. The mystery just spirals, and continues to do so, the entire duration of the film. I can give some of the credit to how well the characters relationships were displayed earlier in the film. They didn't take a long time showing the connections between characters, they didn't not do it at all, but most importantly they didn't over develop any one set of relationships. This really was a big thing for me, because the director was crafty enough to show character development and relationships gradually throughout the build up of tension in a way that when you got to the end the characters left are well enough connected to create a great climax and falling action. I can understand where people would be disappointed with the ending as well, but I honestly couldn't think of an ending that would better encompass the film as wholly as this ending did.

CONS: With a large cast it is rare that every actor is good, and this film fell victim to this as well. Although some of the actors were ridiculously good, others were too stagnant and didn't feel genuine

Bad. Not OK, not good, just bad
5 November 2017
PROS: One thing to acknowledge is good acting when you see it. The film as a whole didn't have good acting, or anywhere near it, but towards the end of the film the more genuine the actors got.

CONS: The end was horrific. Just bad, so bad. It is hard to describe a conclusion without spoiling it, but what I can say is that it was completely disconnected from the movie. It left you with more questions than answers, but most importantly it was just confusing. You have a bad ending paired with one of the most boring movies of all time. I am telling you this with all my heart, this movie was soooooo dull. The director didn't grasp the fact that a one location thriller needs more than just one means of escape, and more than just a loosely held together plot. He tried to make the characters have relationships that didn't make sense, he tried to add intensity by creating unnecessary and incomplete problems, but most of all he didn't get the fact that character depth with no good resolution is frivolous. To conclude, the movie was boring, had poorly written characters, a terrible ending, and no real concrete storyline.

Watch!!!
1 November 2017
PROS: This is the sort of movie that never leaves you. The director really made the characters bonds feel real. This was could be done by having the movie be a tactical found footage film as well as have actors who could seamlessly pull of the right balance of brotherhood, fear, and intensity to an already emotionally loaded film. There was this kind of give take to everything that is actually quite hard to explain. As the mental sanity of the main character deteriorated the other characters were acting dynamically in parallel to him. You really attached to the person on screen, like really attached. You began to fell happy when they were happy, scared when they were scared, and sad when they were sad. This led to an intense climax. You could tell that the director took into consideration all the character relationships, and experiences, when building the finale of the film. To add on, when the climax was over and you were left with the falling acting the film found yet another way to pull at your heart that extra bit more. Overall the film is intense, sad, relatable, funny, interesting, and just a pinch of perfect.

CONS: ...

Created the shark horror genre
31 October 2017
JAWS is a household name, for good reason. When this film came out not only did it create its own genre, but it also reinvented the horror genre as a whole. This film is known for its fair amount of jump scares, good acting, and great resolutions. With 4 movies in the franchise JAWS knows how to create thrills. SHARKNADO, OPEN WATER, and THE SHALLOWS are all great examples of what JAWS has contributed to horror movies.

Created the slasher in the woods horror genre
31 October 2017
Being one of the most acclaimed films of all time, and the pioneer of the most popular horror genre in the world, Friday THE 13TH is definitely on the list for famous horror movies of all times. With 13 spin offs and several copy cats, Friday THE 13TH is the most famous horror movie of all time. With movies like THE LODGE, HUSH, and THE COTTAGE to take after this acclaimed movie there is no shortage of cabin in the woods movies.

Created the psychological horror genre
31 October 2017
THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS is one of the most acclaimed films of all times, mostly because it is just plain good, but also because it created a genre of horror that is now the second most popular. The psychological horror genre is one of the hardest genres to pull off, because of the high standards set by this movie. Films like this are best known for their great acting, terrific plot line, and beautiful filmography. Movies like THE INVITATION, CIRCLE, and DON'T BLINK are great depictions of this genre.

Created the demented family horror genre
26 October 2017
This movie is a slasher indeed, but this movie sends a different message than a typical masked slasher murderer. The whole premise of a family that kills, a clan of some sorts, is its own genre of slasher horror. Movies like WRONG TURN, THE HILLS HAVE EYES, and WOLF CREEK were inspired by this movie and all of those have spun-off into some terrific sequels. This genre is known for good acting, good thrills, but most importantly good resolutions. This movie in particular had all of those and then some.

Created the different dimension horror
25 October 2017
On the surface the different dimension horror genre is so far fetched, but when you look deeper at INSIDIOUS you see a trend of similarities after the film aired. Movies like THE CONJURING and SINISTER were created because of this movie, and although this is the most modern of classic horrors it is probably the most influential. This film takes large motifs like children, photographs, and spirit hunters and uses them together in the plot to create a very intense film. Those motifs are now famous and this is why this movie created the different dimension horror genre.

Created the haunted house genre
25 October 2017
This movie shaped the horror genre in ways words can't explain. With this film in particular you are gifted with some excellent acting and a terrific storyline. THE AMITYVILLE HORROR went on to create a franchise for itself with several renditions of the gruesome houses plagued horror. Most films under this genre highlight a masterful balance of paranoia with good acting. Like with most haunted house films the build up of tension to the climax is a short journey that normally takes place at the last 15-20 minutes of the film. However, during this time you get a scare of a lifetime and creeps that you've never felt before.

If it's not broken then why fix it
21 October 2017
PROS: I liked the storyline a lot. For a movie like this you'd expect to see a lot of plot holes, but there weren't many. I enjoyed how seamless the story ran together. There wasn't any scene that didn't support the overall purpose of the film. To add on to that, the movie was filled with paranoia. I genuinely didn't expect to be as startled as I was when watching this. The director knew when to kick up the intensity and when to dial it down. That refined quality was nice to experience both as a watcher and as a critic.

CONS: The movie falls flat when the movie becomes basic. It's hard to recognize something as a con if it isn't bad, but I also have to realize that it isn't a pro. Some things like that are acting. There were many scenes where the actors really were their character and were very realistic, but there were times where I felt that they were just saying their lines. I was so ticked off at this because every time I started to get into the film the actors just said a line that pulled me right back out. This is the same with the ending. Cliché indeed, but overall just not impactful. This is the ending you'd expect, but it wasn't the ending the film needed.

Panic Room (2002)

I've seen this movie several times and I've never gotten bored
20 October 2017
PROS: JODIE FOSTER, little KRISTEN STEWART, and FOREST WHITAKER give one of the most passionate and heartfelt preferences of their lives. You could feel for every character, you really were able to see each character as a person and not just as a figure. This is both the actors and directors accomplishments. The director said what he wanted the characters to be like and the actors took that and transformed the people on paper to people in real life. I was captivated by this in general because it gave that extra bit of tension to the film. I was more scared for each person than I would've been if they just acted fake. The other thing that I noticed and appreciated was the story line. It's common to see films with different settings, different motives, and different characters being put together and having the film called creative, but this film was actually creative. They took one location and used every bit of that location to the fullest. They also didn't have any character that was basic. Everything that was done in the movie was mostly original which gave the film that extra umph the movie needed.

CONS: The ending felt a little too concise for my liking. I wished that they found so room to give the movie a slightly more resolved finish.

Words can't describe how much awful this movie is
19 October 2017
PROS: COLIN FARREL isn't a bad actor, nor is he bad to look at. But in all seriousness, the acting wasn't too bad. Most of the time the characters were stagnant, even the person on the phone, but they were more good than bad on average. That's why it's a pro.

CONS: The movie was wicked boring. When you have a one location thriller it becomes vital that you find something in that one location that could help influence the depth of the story. I felt that the director trapped himself in a corner when he chose this location. He ended up relying too heavily on character development to make the story scary, but that was a poor decision. It was a questionable choice because the actors were mediocre, and a movie that relies so heavily on acting (like the director anticipated) needs to have that something special to propel the movie forward. Since they didn't have this the movie fell flat. To summarize this bit, you had a man standing in a box with nothing really captivating or alluring to keep you watching and the only thing you did have to watch was OK actors waiting to say their lines. If that snippet wasn't enough, the ending was horrific. Not in like horror meaning scary, like horror meaning omg this is awful. The end sort of takes everything that was done in the movie and throws it away, in a garbage can, that then goes to the landfill, then gets squished and incinerated. That was how bad the end was, and that was all to top off a boring movie with a man standing talking with a stranger for 2 hours.

Roller Coaster Of Fun
18 October 2017
PROS: The acting was ridiculously good in this film. At some moments in the movie I wasn't sure if these people were or were not actually couples in real life. That's how powerful they were in the film. That for me was the building block for what made the film intense. Those bonds that the actors created gave more tension because you could feel the love they had for each other being threatened, which added a higher stake to fight for. The movie really grabs you and sucks you in to this world that is so screwed up and full of deceit that the fear you feel is just unparalleled to anything that you could've expected when picking a action movie to watch. The final thing that I really enjoyed was the story. The story of the movie is half of what makes a good film a good film. This movie has a story that was fresh and new and exciting. I was really excited to watch this and was even more glad when it lived up to my expectations.

CONS: This movie is so close to being 5/5. The only thing that is holding it back is the ending. I loved loved loved the ending, but I wish there was a sneak peak that we could see into the future, but overall please watch!

Disturbia (2007)

Disturbia will give you chills through your whole body.
17 October 2017
PROS: Horrors number one goal is to keep you at the edge of your seat, to keep you uneasy, to keep you white knuckled. This movie did all that and then some. I can't even capture in words how intense this film is. Cinema is meant to put people into another realm and make them feel the emotion that the realm should be giving you. With DISTURBIA I was put into this dark and brutal place and I was scared with every scene. I am a thrill seeker, which is why I like horror movies, but this movie is much more than a thrill. This is an experience that you can't unlive. The movie just built and built until you got to the end. The resolution was the perfect dilution to a very intense climax. I liked that the film built up and built up until it exploded and then you were given just the right amount of time to cool down and process the awesomeness that you just watched.

CONS: I wish there was more gore. I get that sometimes gore isn't necessary but sometimes it is. This was a movie where I wanted to see more to really enforce the ideas that the film wanted you to believe. But overall, the movie was still great

don't watch
16 October 2017
PROS: One thing I can say about this film that I liked 100% of the time was the intensity. The director really knew what a horror movie needed when it came to build up of tension. From opening scene to closing there was this aura that the film had about it that made me feel paranoid. With a slasher, like this movie, it is vital to keep that sort of vibe to the movie the whole time in order for the movie to not fall into the "basic" trap.

CONS: Something that bothered me to no ends\ was how stupid some of the characters were. Like I don't understand how hard it is to hide into the woods, or to whisper your line instead of shout it if the killers right next to you. To add on, there were some things the film didn't answer or even acknowledge. It's OK if a film ignores small pieces or insignificant ones, but if the entire movie hinges on one idea being plausible they better be damn well sure they discuss that idea. This film not only ignored it, but they also depicted the characters who made that idea happen as being people who couldn't pull off the stunt. That disconnect from plot to character development was too large to overlook, and it even took me out of the movie. The final thing is the ending. Wow! how terrible is this ending? Let me tell you, it is worthless and stupid. I'll give you a hint. A brutalized person goes into town, and no one even looks at them twice, even though they are covered in mud, bleeding, and disgruntled looking.

Criminal (2016)
7/10
I expected a government crime thriller but what I actually got was a psychopath with a tough pair of fists.
15 October 2017
PROS: This movie was intense, that's for sure. I was really shook by the whole experience. From the first 10 minutes with RYAN REYNOLDS I knew that I bitten off more than I could chew with this movie. I enjoyed the finesse in which the director was able to conduct the movie. Although I was startled by the movie at first, I really got to see what the director wanted to get across to the audience. He had a vision and it was well broadcasted. From the opening scene to the closing I was at the edge of my seat and completely entranced. I couldn't not see the finale of the film because I had previously got so invested in the process.

PROS: The con is simple... ACTING! I don't understand how it is so hard to convey an emotion that the script has pretty much written out for you. You can't try to pull an emotion out of thin air, that's when it becomes unrealistic and shows through the film as being wicked fake. The director had the main character as being someone that it was OK to dislike, but when you got to the end you were supposed to like him. I didn't like him at all. It's hard to like someone when they act fake. That unbalanced vibe that the acting gave to the film is just plain disrespectful.

This movie is a great watch, but a bad review
14 October 2017
PROS: The acting was pretty solid in this film. I enjoyed how unwavering the characters were when it came to expressing pain. Pain is such a hard emotion to show especially 100% of the time, so I give credit to the actors here. I also love how fitting the movie cover is.

CONS: For me the largest problem would be the extreme amount of plot holes. This movie goes from one basic idea and completely dumps that idea and goes with a whole new one. The transition itself was not done with tact nor was it helpful at all. As soon as you got comfortable the director took away any stability established in the film. There were just so many confusing attributes. As soon as they introduced a different plot line they abandoned the other one, and that was the biggest problem. Once a new plot line gets developed it's key to keep the first plot line because a good movie should build off the first one to get to the second one. Therefore, you ended up getting an ending that didn't go together with any of the character development or structure of the movie.

This Disappoints Me
14 October 2017
PROS: I liked the premise of the movie. I actually think, that although this was based on real events, it was actually altogether compelling. The director had a clear image for what this movie should've been and it seemed to me that he achieved everything that the set out to do. The acting was good when it wasn't thrilling. When the movie was slower and wasn't building up tension the characters did a nice job at showing their individual relationships.

CONS: For me the movie was just too corny. Overall the acting felt extra and bizarre. The movements the actors made felt very rehearsed and unnatural. Characters in the movie just didn't fell real when it came to the action scenes. With horror movies it is important to have the authenticity in both the tense and the not tense scenes. The sort of fakeness I saw in the movie effected my watching experience greatly. The intensity fell flat because there was no real fear that took place because there were no people experiencing the real fear. It all comes back around to how real everything feels. If I don't feel that this could actually happen to me then I wouldn't actually be scared. The other thing that frustrated me was the beginning and the end of the film. The beginning was so slow. It took forever to get to the actual point of the story. They just dragged everything out way to much and built the characters and their bonds a needless amount. Then when you got to the ending you had the complete opposite problem as the beginning. The resolution was just way to short and felt so unfinished. I wish the movie took an extra 5 minutes at least to actually resolve the film.

Pitiful
12 October 2017
PROS: The development of vigor in this movie was nice actually. There were actual times pared with good music, lighting, and camera work, where I was actually scared. Thats the thing with horror movies, there is never a pro that isn't supported by another pro. In this case the chain is short; its relation is good special effects to good tension. The other link to understand is that this movie actually had a good idea. You can make a movie that doesn't have originality, you just need to work a bit harder at establishing good actors, and script. This movie however was completely original, therefore, they could focus more on other things.

CONS: When I said they could focus more on other things they did, but instead of just not putting the EXTRA effort in they just put nothing at all. Actress LEELEE SOBIESKI is critically acclaimed but not a horror actress. She just doesn't posses those qualities in her pallet. That hurt the movie for me, badly. What we were given to watch was a girl trying to play a character she just couldn't in a movie that didn't know its a** from its elbow. And voila you get garbage. The other to add was the complete and udder despicable ending. I always put to much pressure on the ending and I should probably stop because they are starting to all look bad, but after a poor movie I look for the ending to give me what I need to make the film stand out in a good way. This movie gave me nothing. The ending was skewed so far in the opposite direction that I was confused how it even could relate to the film in general. The final thing is the questionable plot. I feel that all the ideas were connected, but just too loosely. I understand it's a movie, and I also understand that they at least tried to connect some ideas, but they weren't connected complete enough for me to not recognize them as a con. It put large breaks in transitions, climaxes, and falling action.

Too high of expectations, too low of results
11 October 2017
PROS: One thing is for sure, HALLE BERRE knows how to act. Movie after movie she delivers knock out performances. With all the you could point out being wrong she some how makes all the flaws fade away. You could see the true terror on her face, which game me true terror. Her ability to portray a natural fear gave me, the watcher, that same fear. That alone helped make the movie scary. With her feeling fear or anger made me and the film have fear or anger. That build up up intensity was rocket launched when the climax was taking place. The fight, that toughness, that the movie had towards the end really embodied what the whole film should've been. What the trailer showed us could best sum up the climax, which is what a horror trailer should sum up.

CONS: Some big red flags are the ending. The ending spoiled every bit of creditability that the movie had established. It offered no climax to the film nor did it make sense. It added unneeded characters, it used unhelpful settings, and it was just super confusing. If you watch this movie you'll know what I mean when I say wtf. The other thing to add on is how unfathomable everything in this movie actually was. I understand car chase movies have to have a little bit of imagination involved, but what happened in the movie is just completely improbable. Time and time again I got mentally removed from the film because I was like no, this couldn't ever happen. That is the same with the finale, which just is so far fetched it is almost not even worth watching, because so much anticipation for a movie to get completely left for dead doesn't even make it worth worth it.

Panic Button (2011)

Classic horror vibe
10 October 2017
PROS: I really liked the ending. It was short, sweet, and to the point. And boy doesn't it make a point. It really restated what the director wanted to tell the audience. It was an actual resolution, which is what an ending should be. The goal is to resolve the "problem" that the movie presents, and it actually does that. The other thing I liked was how detailed the whole story was. Every corner you could've looked at it from was thought out and was fool proof. The killer in this film had those attributes. Every action the characters took fit into who they were. There was nothing that left big question marks which was masterful because therefore nothing took away from the fear of the movie.

CONS: There was nothing really frustrating with the movie. From time to time the acting was dull, but they were still amazing and delivered the same raw genuine emotion. The start was a little slow, maybe if the intensity took place, maybe even, 10 minutes earlier I think it would've cut out some unimportant material.

The Invitation (I) (2015)

This movie is really good if you make it to the end, if not you are in for a boring 60 minutes
9 October 2017
PROS: I love the ending of this film. Everything else is questionable, but the climax and falling action is what makes this film reputable. That sort of aha moment the characters have changes the course of the movie forever. You get a weight laid on you and you go from calm and inactive to white knuckle and at the edge of your seat. This change happens so fast it shocks you and throws you out of this world. I think the devices the director uses to convey this transformation is astounding. Light, sound, setting, acting. It all changed so quickly and you got into an awe that is so horror. This is a psychological horror and granted it deserves it, because it really screwed with my mind. Psychological horror movies are hard to watch because most of the time they are either too scary or not scary enough, and there isn't that balance, but this movie was able to keep this in that psychological category of horror.

CONS: This movie is so slow. You sit there watching the screen roll by and you just yawn and move to the next seen. Granted the director tries to add slight hints of fear, but it just doesn't work. And when I say boring, I mean boring. They take literally an hour until they even start to use the character development they built over the time period. I felt that the acting got bruised because of this because of how slow the movie was, because at the end the movie really picks up and so does the acting, but when the movie wasn't intense the acting wasn't good.
