The Program (2015)
No personal touch..increases GK...fails to impact hearts..Ben Foster is Marvellous
The film deals with the dope controversy around Lance Armstrong(Ben Foster)which was triggered initially by an Irish reporter David Walsh(Chris O'Dowd). Armstrong is brought brilliantly to life by Ben Foster. The performance is genuine and Foster is physically and mentally the controversial cyclist in every aspect. The lust to win at any cost be it hook or by crook is the objective of Lance Armstrong, and Foster has nailed every bit of it, be it with his body language or his emotional breakdown whenever seeing a cancer patient. The film doesn't portray Armstrong a hero or nor the character was justified for taking drugs, he is shown from the pov of a third person. His personal life is not brought into light neither his struggles during his cancer period which if portrayed, certainly the film will have been better.
David Walsh is played well by Chris Odow'd. Actually the film is based on a book by David Walsh. The performance which also struck the right chords is of Jesse Plemons who plays here the character Of Floyd Landis, another fellow cyclist who is quite a complex character.Plemons is on to his best in the role. The film lacks the depth that usually these ports drama do and sometimes looks like a documentary but it actually put more shame to the character of Lance Armstrong..A man who became the symbol of hope from dope.
Cronerberg is often considered the King of Venereal Horror in film world. His films are complex and brutal psychic study of the filth and bestial nature of human beings. It is difficult to watch his films.
"The Fly"is one of his most talked about films which stars Jeff Goldblum in the lead role.
"Spider" is not as disturbing as his other films usually do,but is intriguing. The movie stars Ralph Fiennes as a mentally disturbed person residing in a halfhouse where he hallucinates his childhood memories assuming himself to be a silent observer.
Ralph Fiennes completely blows me away with his stupendous performance...... murmuring gibberish, scribbling nonsense in his diary..all seems so haunting and realistic. The way he handles the role,it shows his calibre as an artist of his business.Miranda Richardson also gives a quite unsettling performance, as the film goes by,you will understand and mark my words you will be totally in awe of her role. The film is justifiably genred as a horror, and horror is not always jumpscare. The gloomy atmosphere of halfway house with the perfect absorbing score by Howard Shore will hold you tight to the seat, the movie is slow, but it will gradually engulf you to it's centre.Cronerberg has wonderfully adapted his film from a novel by Patrick McGrath which is said equally absorbing.
The film has tempted me to watch more of Cronerberg's works.
Al final del túnel (2016)
Old wine in new glass
AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL(2016)
Director- Rodrigo Grande
Cast-Leonardo Sbaraglia,Clara Lago
Language-Spanish Thriller Third Spanish thriller on the row and still in awe of their expertise in making thrillers absorbing and captivating. After watching namely "The invisible guest","sleep tight" I sort of developed an interest in exploring their filmography more.
A physically handicapped person overhears a bank heist plan of some thugs residing in his basement.OH!u guessed it right,it sounds familiar to "rear window",yes it is grande's homage to the Hitchcock classic.
The film is though obviously very flawed but on the other hand is very watchable. The exceptional camera work and the performance of the lead cast are the reasons to watch the film. The entire film is shot in a single house, intentionally happens at a dark atmosphere.i.e at night. The story is not tight and very predictable. If you are going to watch the film for a wholesome experience you will not either be disappointed or be overjoyed. The plot has nothing new but the style of approach is unique and commendable. The film is mediocre if compared to the other spanish flicks mentioned earlier but as I already said is watchable. The films lacks the pace and is slightly long to watch for.
The film is inspired by the story of Evan Lesrage.
Uma,a small NRI girl,is detected with a terminal illness. Her father decided to recreate entire Durga Puja festival of kolkata in march to fulfill her long unfulfilled desire to see durga puja in Kolkata, as doctors said her daughter will not make it to October. The film announces the comeback of srijit after suffering a phase of his previous critically and commercially unsuccessful films. He has regained his fans after this flick. The film emotionally drains everyone with a soul. The film plunges deep in to the heart and will make you pray for uma. Every single performance however small it may appear will appeal to you,the whole ensemble cast has broken all the barriers of perfection. Jishu (playing Uma's father) has enacted his role of a hapless and desperate father with brilliance.Rudranil,neel,srabanti.... their performances are strong and provoking. The performance that stands out tall are that of Anjan Dutta and Anirban. Not for a moment, you will think anjan dutta is enacting his dialogues from a script,it seems, he has surpassed the bounds of spontaneity to depict his role as the eccentric film director, and anirban, this man is a epitome of talent, what a beautiful performance. The movie will carry u with the performance so much that you will not be able to single out the errors which will be obvious on second viewing. For the sake of excessive melodrama they can be neglected. The songs are the pillars of the film..specially the title song of the film.
The film is made from heart and will not disappoint you.
Phas Gaye Re Obama (2010)
Not DE DANA DAN...
PHAS GAYE RE OBAMA(2010)
Cast-Rajat Kapoor,sanjay mishra,Manu Rishi chadha,Neha Dhupia.
A NRI man gets bankrupt on the period of recession and comes to India to sell his house to pay his loans back. The film starts when he is kidnapped assuming him to be a millionaire.
Jolly LLB series director Subhash kapoor has written a classic script involving the recession period. It is very difficult to make a comedy film in India which manages to keep both script and humour simultaneously convincing and only a few films are able to do and this film is among those few flicks.
Rajat Kapoor is excellent as the intelligent NRI businessman.Sanjay Mishra is brilliant in his role.Manu Rishi Chadha steals the show with his effortless role of a man living with the dream of living in USA.The rest of cast has also done a good job.The English coaching class scene is iconic and one of the best comic scenes in Bollywood, the film not just make us laugh but it also depicts the reality of our society.
The power of the film is the story, an equally competent screenplay.
There is difference between pure comedy films like Dhamaal,De Dana dan,Golmaal franchise and Witty ones like PK,Peepli Live. The movie proudly sits on the latter category.
The film is unpredictable and will keep u guessing till the end.

A story of subtle feelings
OCTOBER..A FILM REVIEW.
The film "October" directed by Shoojit Sircar is a story of subtle emotions,a story of love.
Varun aka Dan was one of the many interns in a 5 star hotel.Shiuli(Banita Sadhu) was also one of his fellow interns.Dan was a vulnerable character. But in a sudden upturn of events, dan and shiuli becomes emotionally connected. Review Well, the film is a beautiful picture painted beautifully on a canvas by shoojit and juhi chaturvedi(The writer). The eye catching and melancholic cinematography makes me awestruck.Banita, though given a small role makes her mark. Her expressive and dark, beautiful eyes tells everything. Varun Dhawan shedding his poster boy image becomes Dan physically,mentally...a vulnerable, immature intern. His body language is totally unrecognizable to those who have been a. keen follower of him.Geetanjali Rao was brilliant as shiuli's mother..effortless and perfect.Actually the film can be called "Piku" for the adults..those who have seen can understand.Santanu Moitra's awesome music is one of the main highlights of this film.
October is not only a film,it's a emotional journey..a story of love.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Be quiet..a classic horror film
Well, after a series of unworthy sequels of some famous horror films,John Krasinski tries some different in horror genre and the result is "A Quiet place" which, according to me, will develop a cult following in the future.
The film opens in a futuristic world where New york is terrorized by a creature who can't see but hears and attacks in the direction of the sound in the wink of an eye.Every single sound even talking is fatal. The film is on a family who among the fewer people alive are struggling for existence.John with his real life wife Emily Brunt plays also reel life couple here.Plagourized by their youngest son's death the family has to maintain pin drop silence everytime. The tense, spine chilling situations are skillfully developed by john Krasinski. Emily blunt is a talented actress and she never disappoints, she is too good.John Krasinski also plays perfect role. The young casts are icing on cake. The background music is well crafted. A visual treat.Academy can look on to it..may be..8/10
Nice,could be much better
The thriller directed by debutant Mahua chakraborty is a decent thriller supported by a nice plot and strong performances from the cast.It is a pleasure to watch Sabyasachi-Parambrata together since they parted ways after Kailashe Kelenkari.Sabyasachi as a criminal lawyer was effortless and natural in his performance, parno mitra shines in her double role.Parambrata was also perfect in his role as well as Santilal Mukherjee (one of the main antagonists). Well th dialogue department is average and mediocre as well as character development. Details is the main issue of the film. The songs were bit odd in some places. The comedy in the court scenes was unnecessary and hampers the flow. The climax was good and convincing. Direction was quite nice...overall a good film and it could b much much better.
3 Storeys (2018)
An innovative venture
The film from debutant director Arjun Mukherjee fell into the genre which is being hardly sought of in Bollywood. The film starts of with the narration in a female voice and focuses on a young lad(pulkit) looking to buy a house near his office. He comes by Flory Mendonca played by Renuka Sahane and unarguably the strongest performance in the film.Well here begins the first story,Flory a widow has been living in mayanagar(three storey chawl) and ready to sell the flat.Though expensive, the lad agrees to buy it and a sinister plot creeps in the climax. The second story begins with the unhappily married life of varsha due to his abusive husband. The weakest of the three stories comprises of the back story of varsha with her lover and an obvious relation to the present as the story moves on The third story deals with two love birds from different religion and their family not approving their marriage. The whole cast was superb specially Renuka Sahane. The first story was unique, well executed and the most intriguing of the three. The second story was equipped with nice performance from Masumeh Makhija(varsha) and sharman joshi(shankar) but laid down by predictable plot and mediocre script The third story was better and also supported well by the lead actors. The film will bound u to the seats till the end. A nice work from director Arjun Mukherjee too.The background score was perfect.
A good film to watch 7.1/10
A rare genre of sports drama
2hrs 35 mins
PLOT A lower caste boxer struggles to keep up his career against different odds. Review So.... Anurag Kashyap after a decent film on a serial killer washed his hands for a film(told to be inspired by true events) related with street boxing in the alleys of UP. The film delivers as we all expect from Kashyap's film....brilliant performance, excellent direction and able screenplay.Remember, vineet kumar singh from ugly..he is the main character playing the street boxer shravan singh here.In his role he is more than perfect in his role...well adjectives will be short to describe his performance...he gets under the skin role so well that no one will be able to pick out a signle fault. His body transformation for this film is really inspiring.Jimmy Shergill was excellent in his role as Bhagwan Das mishra..the local goon leader and the villian..his body language and local accent was perfect.Zoya Hussein playing the role of a mute niece to shergill shines in her debut performance.Ravi kishan was also good....but the storyline was bit extended and fails to match the heights of gangs of wasseypur,Gullal...his previous masterpieces but this cinema is just short of achieving a classic tag because it slightly lacks kashyap's signature direction style which is unique. The gripping pace of the film will hold you to the seat but last 15-20mins seems to be forcefully extended. The songs of the film "paintra","Bohot hua samman" nicely fits into the film....this is rare type of sports drama made in bollywood with so much reality involved and must deserve a standing ovation for all the efforts the entire unit has made to create this film...9.2/10......
Red Eye (2005)
A nice thriller..
Rachel McAdam does a jodie foster type role here. The film is barely 90 minutes duration. Rachel Mcadams boards a plane where seeming friendly Murphy took seat beside her. The film plunges into a tense edgy thriller the moment the plane leaves ground. Cillian Murphy was brilliant in the negative role. As I mentioned above, acting of Mcadams will remind you of Jodie Foster from silence of the lambs, panic room. The fear in her face was so real that Murphy although brilliant in his role was slightly overshadowed. The film is one of the best air borne thriller in this decade.
A Death in the Gunj (2016)
The name of the film is the twist....Konkona shines in her directorial debut.
The film directed by Konkona sen Sharma is a worth watch. The film gives us a fresh talent in bollywood.. Vipul Masi. The film is well crafted and directed. Late Om Puri has also acted in this film. The film is not for the mass. The story is simple and the background is older santiniketan.
American Made (2017)
Stylish,funny ..thumbs up
From the director of one of the most scientifically accurate movies of decade..here comes a joyride based on biopic of Barry seal .The film is A to z entertainment..Tom cruise as usual flying high with the role of legendary pilot turned drug smuggler cum CIA agent. The movie with it's brisk pace manages to focus most of the details of Seal's life. The cinematography scenarios are a real eye candy for the viewers. The film is not obviously flawless but they can surely ignored for one time watch
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
A young Blade Runner in the code name of K seeks out to find an ex blade runner known as Rick Decard in order to achieve his mission of eliminating all replicates
It's my pleasure that I have been able to see Blade runner 2049 in theaters .So after "Arrival", Denice Villenueve ventures with the most ambitious project of his career, the sequel of Blade runner by Ridley Scott back in the 80s.That film was a super-hit one with two Oscar nominations. My expectation was high but it surpasses my expectations to become the best film of the year after "Dunkirk".The visuals are brilliant and worth watching. The score composed by Benzamin wall-sch and Hans Zimmer are appropriate.Ryan Gosling suits to the role with his reaction less eyes and his chemistry with Jo the artificial female companion is one of the best things in the film.Harrison Ford reprises his role perfectly .The film is nearly three hours but you will never feel like it's extended .Jared Leto played his role as villain quite good but his role can be more extended.Robin wright also played her part efficiently. At the fag end of the year the film is able to give cinema lovers all they can expect from a film..it is perfect and to my opinion better than the original
Wind River (2017)
The film revolves around murder of a 18 yr old girl where a local hunter teams up with a FBI rookie to find out the guilty
I came to know Jeremy Runner singularly after his supporting role in "arrival" ,then I saw him in "Hurtlocker" where he nailed his role as a bomb squad personnel.Wind river directed by debutante Taylor Sheridan is a familiar name in film world for his work as a writer in "prisoners" and "Hell and high water".This film from all point of view is brilliant.Jeremy runner has again proved his caliber. The snowy surrounding and the background score act as an necessary element. The film revolves around the murder of a eighteen yr old red Indian girl midst the snow.Another surprise here is Elizabeth Olsen who has impressed beyond expectations as a FBI rookie. The film is a must watch .
