American Beauty (1999)
yeah. I didn't like this movie at all. It did a decent job of telling a story, but the story itself kind of stank. It was a miserable, dirty and depressing movie. It kind of reminded me of 'Payback.' There wasn't a good guy/gal to get behind and root for. It was lacking. Also, the movie was billed as a comedy. It was most definitely NOT funny. I didn't laugh (or even chuckle) once! I felt dirty after watching it. All the characters creeped me out. THIS is typical America?! If I'm naïve, then please leave me be. My world is much happier and morally sound
not perfect, but at least trying and knowing what is wrong and right. I understand there are artistic elements (cinematography and such) that are quite good in this movie (it won awards, after all!), but when a story/movie leaves me feeling out-of-sorts and yucky, then the art is lost on me and a total waste of effort.
Great Story Telling!
I'm really starting to appreciate movies that are great examples of story telling. This movie's story-line carries you along and keeps you guessing. It reminds me of 'Sixth Sense' in that way. You trust some characters and dislike others, and then reverse your opinion again and again. You think she's crazy, then maybe not, then definitely so, then
You just don't know until the end when everything is tied together. A fabulous movie! 'Flightplan' is a great suspenseful adventure movie that is very well told. I wouldn't say thriller, because it isn't scary really. It is just and edge-of-your-seat, grippingly GOOD flick. From the trailers, I didn't expect to enjoy this movie as much as I did. I guess you can't judge a movie by its trailer! :o)
Just Like Heaven (2005)
One of My New Favorites
First, I must reiterate that I loved this movie! My husband and I left this movie with good, warm fuzzy feelings. As far as favorites go, this one is right up there two of my other, long-standing favorites: "Apollo 13" and "The Lion King." "Just Like Heaven" is a clean, excellently told love story with a somewhat unique twist. The characters are totally charming and instantly lovable. I laughed throughout the movie, and was nearly crying by the end. My husband commented that this movie is predictable, and I agree that it is. However, it is not (by any stretch of the imagination) predictable in a bad way. You should see this movie again and again, because this movie is funny, charming, classic, entertaining and down-right beautiful. Enjoy!
