Doctor Who: Short Trips: Regeneration Impossible (2020)
Twelve and Eleven Interacting Makes it Worth the Listen
The fun of this episode is having Eleven and Twelve interacting. Twelve's snarkiness contrasted with Eleven's curiosity and disbelief was a delight. The plot itself was alright, The Twelfth is expelling large amounts of artron energy, which attracts Eleven to investigate, and meet up with his future self. The plot wasn't hugely memorable overall, come to the story for the interactions between these two characters. There was also a sweet little moment between Twelve and Eleven's Tardis near the end of the story. I've said this before, but I'm still blown away that the same actor does the voices for both Doctors. His Twelve is spot on, and his Eleven is pretty close too.
Doctor Who: Short Trips: The Best-Laid Plans (2019)
A Tweleth Doctor story where he sceams in the background.
An interesting story, and not really focused on the Doctor. The Doctor is still very important, and he keeps popping up in the background of the narrative until near the end, but the main focus is on a different original character and how his story insects with the Doctor's. It was well done, and compelling enough for a short story.
The actor, Jacob Dudman, who did the narration did a great job, it was hard at times to remember that he was doing all the different voices. There were at least 5-6 different character voices and they were all distinct. His impression of the Twelfth Doctor was very good, not quite spot on, but very, very close.
Doctor Who: Once and Future: The Martian Invasion of Planetoid 50 (2023)
Missy and Ten interacting, what more do you need?
This episode was a lot of fun. It was so nice to hear the Tenth Doctor and Missy interacting, and they played off each really well. Missy being chaotic and troublesome, but still undeniably likeable. I lived for the little bits where she flirted with the Doctor, and Ten could not handle it. The Paternoster Gang being in the episode was an added bonus. Their very accepting friendship with the Doctor is always nice, even when he doesn't exactly know who they are. The plot itself was kind of a fun concept, and provided enough action to keep things going. However, the draw of this episode isn't really the plot, but hearing these familiar characters from different eras interact with each other.
Dead Boy Detectives: The Case of the Very Long Stairway (2024)
Fantastic Penultimate Episode
This is fantastic episode. It is the culmination of Edwin's season arc, with him having to confront his past, not only his life in Hell, but also getting a new perspective on the events around his death. His love confession was beautifully done, and although it didn't turn out how one would have hoped, it was still filled with warmth and hope.
Charles was wonderful in this episode. He was so determined to rescue Edwin, and gave him strength when he needed it. Charles was also very kind and tender with Edwin after the love confession.
This is also the culmination of Crystal's arc where she faces off against David the Demon and finds strength within herself.
I also loved Niko and the Night Nurse together, and Jenny being a badass trying to support Crystal
Overall a great penultimate episode for the season.
The Walking Dead: The Grove (2014)
The Best Episode of The Walking Dead
Arguably the best episode of The Walking Dead ever, most definitely the best episode not to feature Rick or Daryl. The story is contained to just one small group, Carol, Tyreese, Lizzie and Mika, and I think could be absolutely be watched alone, independently from the rest of the show, most of it has the feeling of a separate film. Using children in horror is hardly a new trope, but the way this episode does it is scary, but ultimately sad, focusing on a child that under ideal modern circumstances would have had a chance to get the help she desperately needed, but in the zombie apocalypse there are no good options. Melissa McBride gives the performance of her career, as Carol having to make some heartbreaking choices. Chad L. Coleman also gives an underrated, but brilliant performance, as a man with a heart who is unsure and conflicted.
Supernatural: Funeralia (2018)
If you are a Rowena fan then this is your episode
If you are a Rowena fan then this is your episode, she is the main focus, and undoubtedly the star of this episode. This is the first time we get to see Rowena's powers completely unfettered, and she is more than a match for the Winchesters. But, the true heart of this episode is her feelings of pain and regret at loss of her son. Both Ruth Connell and Lisa Berry deliver great performances in the pivotal scene.
