Where is Ninja 3 ?
24 April 2019
I highly praise Ninja (2009) for how slick it is with the action scene and Scott Adkins natural talent in martial arts but at the core, the movie still feels like a cash-in of the more popular movie about ninja that release the same year Ninja Assassin (2009 ) until Ninja: Shadow of a Tear come out because this movie not only knock the original out of the park but it also gave the franchise an identity of its own. This movie marked the first time before the long collaboration of Adkins and professional stuntman Tim Man when he single-handedly up the quality of the action scene in the sequel so every fight scene in this movie very memorable especially the final fight with Kane Kosugi son of the legendary ninja actor Sho Kosugi.

Scott Adkins is not only the next American Ninja but the only British Ninja in my opinion
23 April 2019
It hard to not to compared Ninja Assassin (2009) and Ninja (2009) because they are two rarest movies about ninja in the 20th century but if you ask me about which one I prefer then no doubt I'm gonna pick the one with Scott Adkins as the main lead because Ninja Assassin maybe the biggest budget for a ninja movie since forever and the amount of bloodshed that can rival Rambo (2008) but it shaky action scene will never come close to the clear and well-choreographed action of Ninja. Scott got his first big break and iconic role with Yuri Boyka from Undisputed 2: Last Man Standing and he still continues to do that in Ninja his first time as the lead role and he kicks major ass in it as Casey Bowman while Tsuyoshi Ihara whom you may know through 13 Assassins is really intimidating and bad-ass as the main villain Masazuka. If you like Ninja Assassin then you bout to enjoy Ninja or even more

Groovy *in Japanese*
20 April 2019
I'm checking out Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell (2012) purely because of the catchy title and how the movie marketing itself out to be The Japanese version of Evil Dead so naturally, as a big fan of low budget horror movies like I am this movie seems like it right up my alley and after 60 minutes I can tell you guys that this movie freaking deliver what it promises. The movie makes me smile every time I see a homage scene to Evil Dead 2 and how deadpan the characters look when they see how crazy stuff happen but not one time that I think it just a cash-in on the Evil Dead name because the movie doesn't force the slapstick comedy down your throat so when it needs to be tongue in cheek it works and when it needs to be creepy the movie can legit make your heart jump with the distorted Image of the ghost and the old VHS look of the movie. The practical gore effects are there and it may look low budget some time it still very impressive in my opinion

Welcome to the Ninja hotel. Ninja check in but they don't check out
20 April 2019
Despite the fact that since 2006 there not a single movie under his name I still love Corey Yuen to death and I think he is one of the best action movie directors in the world not just in Hong-Kong so going into his directional debut Ninja in the Dragon's Den (1982) I already know what I'm about to get and that is a solid fun time with ninja and kung-fu galore but it still amazes me nonetheless. The movie got some of the best action sequence involving a ninja and a kung-fu fighter that I can think of and it safe to say that this movie and Five Element Ninjas are my favorite ninja theme movie Hong-Kong ever produce. Conan Lee the main character of the movie look nearly identical to Jackie Chan make me feel very off-putting and weird not because he unfunny but because watching him crack a joke while fighting makes me wish he is the real Jackie Chan tbh

Before The Raid series shock us with how gory martial art movie can get there was Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky
19 April 2019
Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky is the most disgusting and over the top Hong-Kong martial art movie I've seen in my life and it also one the best live-action movie adaptation from a manga at the time alongside with Crying Freeman. As we already know when it comes to over the top and wacky director Ngai Choi Lam is the right man for the job and under his direction Riki-Oh goes beyond my expectation of how faithful to the T it is to the source material even though it only adapt the first arc of the manga the movie still prove itself to be a good stand-alone movie with a reasonable script. The fight scene of Riki-Oh is not exactly that well choreographed and usually end really quick but if one punch is all Riki need to eliminate his opponents then why need to drag the fight anymore longer? In conclusion, Riki-Oh is an absolute must watch movie not only for the fan of the crazy and bizarre side of Hong-Kong cinema but for anyone who wants to have a good time with friends who just as weird as your in movie taste

Generic but good kung-fu movie
14 April 2019
After the atrocious of a movie called The Thousand Faces of Dunjia that make my soul left my body because my brain cannot understand how come a joint project of both legendary Hong-Kong filmmaker can be that bad director Woo-Ping Yuen finally got his groove back with Master Z: Ip Man Legacy and the movie is definitely his best work since True Legend (2014). Jin Zhang once again surprises me for how good he is as an actor and a martial artist when he replays his iconic role Cheung Tin-chi a misguided master of Wing Chung from Ip Man 3 in a story as old as time but still works. The action is good and the whole movie got this charming and goofy feeling 90s kung-fu movie that I like but sadly I can't say that about the ending. The new "Evil white guy" this time is David Bautista and although compared to the obnoxious Twister Miller of Ip Man 2 he definitely feels more like a genuine human and not a cartoonish evil character but that it. Michelle Yeoh and Tony Jaa also got their own stand-out fight scene but just like Bautista they just guest starring actor so I'm disappointed but not really surprised either

Hellboy (2019)
5/10
I can sense the cult status out of this movie
14 April 2019
I love bad movies and so bad it's good kind of movies and if the mainstream critics hate a movie to death then I know that movie definitely right up my alley so it no surprise to me that Hellboy (2019) a movie with a lot of buzz in the industry for the wrong reason recently is a dumpster fire that I can't help but enjoy for how unapologetically edgy, over the top and dumb it is. The story is bad, the characters are unbearable, most of the time I can't see what the hell going on because the movie is badly lit plus the CGI looks like it straight out of the early 2000s with stuff like The Mummy, Van Helsing. I really want to see the third movie from the original trilogy that directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Ron Perlman so if more people go and see this movie someday it may happen so I highly recommend Hellboy (2019)

I love this movie to death
12 April 2019
On the surface Showdown in Little Tokyo look like a typical 90s action schlock that you will rent from the video store just because it got both Dolph Lundgren and Brandon Lee on the cover but for me, since the first day I saw it I legit think Showdown in Little Tokyo is the coolest action movie ever and after rewatched it a couple of times for the past few years I come to a conclusion that this movie is, in fact, a timeless action movie and deserve so much more attention than it already is. Yes, the plot is the most by the books of how to write any cheesy action movie ever and the runtime is super short but who cares about that when we got Dolph on full "I must avenge the death of my family" mode while Brandon took the fish out of water role in their prime kicking yakuza ass non stop with an over the top death of the main villain played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa for a climax ? I don't know why I got this unconditional love for Showdown in Little Tokyo but I do know that I will continue to love this movie for a long time

Jigsaw (I) (2017)

Mehhhhh it could have been way worse
11 April 2019
After 7 years the Saw franchise finally come back with the latest installment title Jigsaw and although I'm thoroughly enjoyed the franchise from start to finish I don't think there is no such thing as new ideas that this franchise needs to gain new fans but I'm still glad that we got this one even though it painfully pale compared to other installments. The bloody trap and the out of nowhere plot twist, in the end, is still there but none of it make me sick to my stomach or make my eyes roll for how ridiculous it is. Not to mention the fact that Jigsaw is the cleanest looking Saw movie ever make itself hard to believe that it a part of a horror movie franchise that notoriously known for the dirty and grimy nature

Drive (1997)

Sit back and enjoy the Drive
6 April 2019
I know Mark Dacascos is one hell of a fighter both in and outside movie and as much as I enjoy Crying Freeman and Brotherhood of the Wolf for introducing me to him the story is what intrigues me the most because that all those over-stylized action scenes never ever come close to the hard-hitting old school action scene of Drive (1997). Big thumbs up for the stunt team and fight choreographer behind Drive because they not only fully understand what they are doing but they also help turn Drive into the closest to a Hong-Kong action movie that the West ever made and if you don't see the obvious resemblance to Jet Li on how Dacascos look and the way he uses random object to fight like Jackie Chan then you must be lying. I got nothing against the character trope in this movie but the thirsty ass motel girl annoy the hell out of me everytime she on screen

Mr. Vampire (1985)

A movie that defined a genre
5 April 2019
Hong-Kong horror comedy movies can be dated back to the old Shaw Bros days and to be exact Encounters of the Spooky Kind (1980) is the one that kickstarts the new wave of Hong-Kong horror comedy with a brief cameo of the Chinese zombie but not until Mr. Vampire (1985) that Jiangshi finally become a genre all thanks to the magnificent Ching-Ying Lam as the iconic ghost-busting Taoist priest who left his mark so deep into the genre to the point that when he passes away the genre die along with him. Aside from the wacky ghost-busting action, the slapstick comedy can be a real hit or miss for the audience and as much as I wanted this movie to be flawless just like the first time I saw it I couldn't help but notice that the sub-plot about the demon lady is total meaningless not to mention a cheap trick to increase the movie watch time

Dolph Lungred and ninja ? You can't get more 80s than this
3 April 2019
I think nowadays most movie fan have forgotten or don't even know that back when Marvel comic still a newbie in the superhero genre there was a The Punisher movie starring action movie icon Dolph Lungrend as the most famous antihero ever in comic book history Frank Castle. I kinda guess that after the critically acclaimed hit tv-series created by Netflix it understandable that fan of the character forget about all the bad adaptation but after I rewatch The Punisher (1989) yesterday to see how it hold up I have come to a conclusion that with the iconic skull on the chest or not this movie still stand out as the most enjoyable of the 3 adaptations purely on the fast-paced action and the 80s cheese. Becaue I'm only know the character through the movie so the trustworthy level of my words is incredibly low but the fact that this is one of Dolph better movie and a good vigilante movie still stand

The best rom-com anime of 2019 right now
31 March 2019
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War in my opinion is one of the best rom-com anime ever and a breath of fresh air into the genre that every anime fan need to check out even when the reason you know about the show is through the infamous dance scene of ep 3 that make the whole community lose their mind. The characters are awesome and well developed while the comedy is absurdly funny in a Monogatari kind of way. The two main character Shirogane and Shinomiya is no doubt my best anime couple of the season and fan favorite character Fujiwara is also a strong contender for the best supporing female character role but all my heart and support goes out to Yu Ishigami a.k.a OUR GUY because he a character that speak what on everybody mind and represent a majority of the viewer in a bad but funny light

An assassin that shed tears
30 March 2019
Long before Alita Battle Angel is even a thing Crying Freeman is one of the early attemp at adapting a manga into live action movie from the West that prove live action movie can be really good if it under a director that care about the source material and actor with enough talent to pull off the character like Christophe Gans and Mark Dacascos. On the first view I don't care too much about the story and the character because at the time I know nothing about the manga it based on but I'm still think it a fun and forgettable action movie until the second view that the movie start to growing on me and after binge the first 4 volumes of the manga Crying Freeman become a near-perfect manga adaptation in my opinion. I said near-perfect because although the movie got the basic rundown of the character motivation and background right they also change some of the stuff for it to fit the Western setting with new character that thankfully don't ruin the movie at all. Crying Freeman end with the ending of volumes 2 and that a good thing if the movie was meant to be a stand-alone movie because in the manga the story is much more bizarre and over the top later on that I don't think not even the other two adaptation from Hong Kong A Killer's Romance (1990) and The Dragon from Russia (1990) willing to take the risk and make a sequel

I need more
29 March 2019
The Quintessential Quintuplets is one of the most enjoyable harem anime that I can think of right now and before We Never Learn come out it safe to say that the anime maybe my favorite harem anime in a long time. I encourage people that don't like the genre for the heavy fan-service and a dumb storyline that goes nowhere to give this anime a chance because this anime have little to none of that when this time it got a wholesome story and a straightforward main character that we all can roots for to enjoy. It still got some of the old cliche scene that bout to happen because it still a harem anime at the core but all of them handle well and never leave a bad taste in your mouth. I don't know if this anime ever get a second season or not so I highly recommend read the manga at well because trust me after the end of ss1 things can only get better from there

House (1985)

Just get out of the house
28 March 2019
On the surface House (1985) definitely is a cash in movie on the success of Poltergeist release three years before with the whole parent looking for their children in ghost dimension thing and it fine that many people skip on this movie but even so it still a perfectly fun and trashy 80s horror movie that I can't never bring myself to hate. Although I very appriciate the cheesy dialogue and the monster design I think it's kind of a bummer that the movie don't go for a more over the top route with the practical effects when there not enough blood and gore to boost the entertainment value despite the R-rated

Very fascinating
27 March 2019
While I do think that Bride of Re-Animator is a solid body horror movie it never come close to the original due to the annoying presence of Dr.Dan played by Bruce Abbott so thank god that director Brian Yuzna finally get rid of him in Beyond Re-Animator because this movie is hand down one of the best third installment in a franchise ever. It's still the same old story about 1 guy who desperately want to ressurected his love one with the help of the always caml and collected Master of Re-Animated corpse Herber West played by Jeffrey Combs and I think you guys can all guess how it goes. Just like his predecessor Dan Cain the new apprenntice Howard Phillips is a real pain in the ass but he never hold back the movie because aside from him everything from the cast to the practical effects are top notch. The fact that it 2019 now and there still no sign of another Re-Animated movie make me speechless because if Laurie Strode got her revenge on Michael Myers with Halloween (2018) then Herbert West quest for immortality need a proper ending

What a waste of potential
26 March 2019
I will admit that at first I only watch Manaria Friends because it got Rage of Bahamut in the title and the scene where one of the main character get dressed for school so if I'm not enjoying this anime then it definitely my fault to begin with but to find out later that this whole fantasy anime solely focus on the fluffy mix with some yuri friendship berween the two main character Grea and Ann I'm still feeling let down to be honest. Normally with short runtime anime like this one I tend to be more forgiving than others but because it set in a fantasy world so it a shame when there little to no world building in this anime aside from one episode when the girls come into town

Perfect Blue (1997)
10/10
Scary and thought provoking
25 March 2019
I tried to get into the world of director Satoshi Kon once with Paprika and failed miserably because at the time my mind still very young and stupid but after few years later I'm finally tried it again with his debut Perfect Blue and my god for an anime movie from 1997 the message I got from it definitely aged pretty damn well. Perfect Blue is one haunting and deeply disturbing piece of anime about the dark side of Japanese Idol worship culture that for the rest of the world may sound bizarre but thank to the power of social media nowadays the story is as relevant as ever when you can literally learn all about one individual with a duble mouth click. My mind still feel a bit numb toward the third arc because there some scene don't make any sense but at least the anime end with a proper ending unlike Cam (2018) a horror movie with a somewhat similar concept but horribly executed.

Triple Threat (2019)
9/10
Talk, talk, talk just die
24 March 2019
I been waiting for Triple Threat to drop since the day I heard about a bomb-ass action movie with a cast full of The Expendables of the new generation and after a solid 96 minutes of bloody shooutout and full contact martial art action I can be sure that this movie is 100 % worth watching to all action fan out there. With a premise like Iko Uwais, Tony Jaa and Tiger Chen VS Scott Adkins, Michael l Jai White and Michael Bisping so how the plot progess is the least of my concerns as long as they keep squashing their beef with fist and bullet and I think everyone should see this movie with that attitude too. Of course there will be some fan favorite character got limited screen time but with the cast this talented and a short runtime Triple Threat already went beyond my expectations. Let hope that there will be a sequel so we can finally see Jaka get shot

Rumble in Koreatown

There many great action movie that starring familiar face of the action genre like Arnie, Stallone, JCVD...... but there also some lesser-known but super good action star that thank to the power of Internet I finally found them first with Billy Blanks then Jeff Wincott and now Jeff Speakman. Aside from the beautiful showcase of Jeff Speakman impressive martial art talent and a young Dante Basco before his iconic role in Hook The Perfect Weapon also show me a picture of how Asian-American live back in the 90s that really reminded me of Showdown in Little Tokyo one of my all time favorite action movie ever

Abduction (2019)
8/10
The first actually good action sci-fi movie from Scott Adkins
22 March 2019
From the star of Scott Adkins's action packed career the Sci-fi genre were never his thing and I think many of his fan, including me can all agree than unless the movie got big budget then he should just stick to low budget action movies especially after the dreadful Incoming ( 2018) that so embarrassing to watch that even Scott himself had to apologize on Facebook until now. I'm not saying that Abduction is a good sci-fi action movie or even one of his best but because my expectations already at its lowest I'm actually very surprised about how entertaing this movie is. Yes, the movie is super low budget when it come to the sci-fi aspect but the action scene cheographed by Tim Man the Man plus Scott Adkins and Andy On charming presence on scene all make me forget that I'm watching a move that supposed to take place in Vietnam a place where not many people can speak English but when everytime the movie need to push the plot forward all of a sudden the people speak like it like it a natural thing and more dumb stuff like that. I'm kind of curious about the open ending so a potential sequel sound not all that bad for me

Devil Fetus (1983)
7/10
The title is a bait
22 March 2019
Devil Fetus on it own two feet is a entertaining early 80s Hong Kong horror flick but when you compared it to Seeding of a Ghost a movie with a similar concept and come out in the same year it definitely look pale in every aspect as possible. Devil Fetus not only got the most laugable Taoist exorcism sequence I've seen in my life and for a movie called Devil Fetus the lacking of the monster in the tile is truly way more disturbing than the gore in this movie. This review may sound more lile I'm slamming this movie just because it not met my expectations but if you watch both movie back to back like me you will feel the same. In conclusion, if you want to see some real Devil Fetus in action then watch Seeding of a Ghost because you will not find it here despite the obvious title

Justice for black magic user
20 March 2019
In the Black magic genre from Hong Kong usually the villian always be the black magic user and the good ones are the bystander who caugh up in the middle but on a rare occasion the roles got reversed and Seeding of a Ghost is a fine example of that. Tha man character Chou Tang played by Phillip Ko probably is the best husband ever in my opinion with all the messed up stuff he went though just to revenge for his unfaithful wife and thank to him this movie end with an absolute bloody and gory bang. Totally enjoyable from start to finish with great practical effects and a lot of WTF scenes Seeding of a Ghost is a movie that worth checking out for fan of extreme asian cinema

Want to know how good Vietnamese film industry is ? Watch Song Lang then make up your mind
18 March 2019
I give a lot of harsh critism toward Vietnamese movies since the day I decided to watch more movie produce from my country in order to find the same on the edge of the seat feeling that I got from other film industry in the West and the East until Furie ( 2019) and just now Song Lang (2018) make my heart burst into tears for how much well shot, well directed, well acting and most importanly how much emotionally invested I am with the characters. I don't normally seek out movies that touch on the LGBT subject because it's not my cup of tea when I'm more of a a action, horror person myself but in the case with Song Lang it not only a beautifully make movie with great cinematography and nailed the retro scenery of Vietnam down to a T but it also a heartfell drama story about two guy each from opposite site settle down their differences and learn how to love themselves more. It such a damn shame that right now only Vietnamese people can see this movie because there no overseas release for Song Lang at all and I would love to see it got the attention it deserves in the future
