Reviews
Madres (2021)
unique blend of genres
True life horror blended with supernatural horror. This is an important story that shouldn't be forgotten and it was definitely an interesting way to tell it. The attention to detail was amazing. The time period and a look at the culture of migrant workers and second-generation Mexican Americans felt very genuine and not something that you see often, especially in horror. Thought provoking. Ignore the bad reviews, people suck and so what if the horror was a tad cheesy - the real horror is this actually happens. This was superbly done.
Black Circle Boys (1997)
Funny and Horrible and yet I still love it
My love for this movie makes absolutely no sense. My sis and I rented this back when it was released. It's supposedly based on a true story, exploring teen angst, black magic, drug use and devil worship. Lisa Loeb is a gal in a club who yells at Shane, so that's kinda cool. It's a film we made everyone watch because it was hilarious and we'd find a new mistake each time (boomsticks showing on screen). Over the years I've read many reviews that say the film is told with a disturbing level of honesty and believability. I don't see it. It's so funny and is a pretty horrible movie truly and yet I still love it.
Malignant (2021)
Wicked Crazy Awesome Fun
This was a fun campy horror surprise! The action really picked up towards the last half - I'd like to know the body count, was wicked crazy and it feels like the start of a new franchise. The locations were beautifully done and I would have greatly enjoyed watching this with my lil sis who jumps at scary parts 😂. I stayed home to watch this but I bet this looked awesome on a big screen.
Cinderella (2021)
Beautifully Done
I'm biased - Cinderella is one of my favorite tales and I enjoy watching and reading new versions. However, when Disney did their live update - I was super disappointed in them (how could they do such a great job with the rest of the princess stories and such a lackluster Cinderella?). THIS is everything that should have been. Beautifully done, funny, and an added depth to the classic characters. LOVED IT!
Aftermath (2021)
Realistically Creepy
Overall this was an enjoyable and realistically creepy horror film. It could have gone in a couple different directions and somewhat obvious yet there was enough mystery to keep me wondering. There were two pieces in the story that kept me from rating this a 10 (I'd share but don't want to spoil the experience).
It's hard for me to call this a B Horror movie because the quality and acting are excellent but for the obvious "DUH" moments-it fits. Despite all the folks who rated this poorly - grab some popcorn and enjoy it for the thrills!
Reminiscence (2021)
Unique, surreal setting
At it's core, this film is a romance story. I had zero expectations when I hit play - didn't watch a trailer or read anything about it beforehand - just figured most of my picks for the past week had been oldies and wanted to catch something new. I found it slow paced but the mystery plot was well done and the characters were good.
The graphics for this movie are amazingly done (despite what the CGI haters claim).
They definitely could have explored different aspects of this story and world in which it takes place, but that wasn't what the film was about and the little pieces we got seemed to be just filler for that main storyline.
Personally I wish they would have sped up the speed of the main story and included more history, action and drama but the story they wanted to tell (tragic romance) was spot on and the mystery and sci-fi are solid.
After giving it some consideration, they deserve the 10 stars. Glad I was able to catch this on HBO Max due to the slow pacing but I imagine the rich and surreal environments would be awesome to view on the big screen.
I must not watch much in the romance/mystery category - I thought this was a pretty unique storyline - global warming with memory scanning and hologram capabilities, how the mystery plot was played out... Idk, seemed pretty as original as you can get nowadays. I don't think all the 1 and 2 star reviews are fair - people just annoy me greatly, especially when they get behind a computer screen and write reviews.
Free Guy (2021)
Absolutely Awesome
I absolutely loved this movie! You can tell that a lot of thought went into creating a movie about online games, gamers and streamers. From my point of view - I feel like it captured the atmosphere perfectly and in a way that was genuinely funny and endearing. The theater was full of laughter which always makes the experience great. This movie does make me wonder how my favorite NPC's would behave if they got a dose of AI... what kind of trouble would Claptrap (Borderlands) get into?!
The Game (1997)
suspenseful, imaginative, life altering
Every time I watch this it blows my mind how elaborate it is. If you haven't seen this yet I don't want to spoil anything for you. It's just awesome.
For those who can't handle the ending, I think you miss the whole point of why the game exists in the first place - it's life altering.
Jolt (2021)
unique, colorful, action-packed
Hits all the marks for an action packed thriller - explosions, fast cars, kick azz main character, lots of combat and pretty sweet locations (love the use of neon!).
Army of the Dead (2021)
Exactly what I've been missing
Full of action, zombies and crazy humor - this is what I have been missing! I f'n loved everything about it from the cover to the end scene!
Those trying to compare this to other zombie flicks (like Dawn) should just stick to classics if they can't jump out of their "comfort zone". I saw nothing that was extremely surprising from the lens of a gamer. Can I get this in a game? I want to play it!
Mom and Dad (2017)
Hilarious, parenting gone waay bad
How did I miss this when it was a new release?! Such a hilarious turn of events for such horrible parents, so cringy and wonderfully fresh - LOVED it! Of course, after watching this I felt a need to text my kiddo and apologize for this movie and warn her to stay away from me if this were to ever happen irl 😂 ... I thankfully refrained (it was super late) but it speaks to my craziness or how much the movie affected me.
The Mexican (2001)
Equal Parts Fun and Annoying
Plenty of fun, quirky characters and for me the main storyline was solid, despite what others have said... there were some things that got old and annoying very quickly but overall still an enjoyable movie.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)
Beautifully Extraordinary Adventure
Cinematics were beautifully done and I really loved how the treasure hunt for photo #25 was set up. The adventure that Walter went on was epic and it was just a lovely movie all around.
I Care a Lot (2020)
Deviously awful characters.
Such truly horrible people all around in this film but I had to keep watching to see what would happen next. The end was truly epic and made the whole thing worthwhile.
